Sorry to hear about your knee! It would be best to have it checked out by your doctor and get their recommendation and possibly a referral to a Physical Therapist, depending on what the injury actually is and how bad it is. You definitely don't want to make things worse, so you may need some rest and recovery time while it heals, but it would be a good idea to start with your doctor.

I hope you heal quickly!

I injured my knee on Friday and have skipped 3 days of walking. How to I recover from this? I'm worried that walking is too hard on my knees at my present weight. What do you recommend?

1. You are entirely up to you. Make your body, make your life.
2. If you are tired of starting over, stop giving up!
3. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change.
4. The Dalai Lama: "One brings failure on oneself by working extremely hard at the beginning, attempting to do too much, and then giving it all up after a short time. A constant stream of moderate effort is needed."

When tracking like that, the system will just give you the minutes because it doesn't know what exactly you did or how fast/far so it won't be able to give you a calories burned amount. If you go to your fitness tracker page, you can look up the exercise at the speed that you did it and then get the calories burned amount that way. If you use that entry, you can just delete the other entry by clicking the red x next to it OR you can click on the entry and edit it to enter the calories burned amount and save it.

As for the superman, I would recommend just doing a back extension like this: www.sparkpeople.com/resource
/exercises
.asp?exercise=147

Hope that helps!

Daily fitness challenge and this one -walk this way challenge. I get the points for completing the challenge but on the fitness tracker it shows my 60 minutes but zero calories

Also Superman. I still cannot do it with my arms off the floor so which way is a better alternative. One arm at a time or at my,sides facing my feet?

If you are doing them in good form and they are still challenging, then continue to do them the modified way. If you are doing the modified version in good form and they are not challenging, then it may be time to move on to the full version and do less of those so you are still doing the exercise, but keeping proper form. You want to really make sure you are keeping proper form in all exercises you are doing so that you are not only working the right muscles, but so you also don't injure yourself.

Hope that helps!

I do the workout with the computer lady and can only do the girl pushups I donít have strength YET for the guys. Superman I can lift my stomach but not arms.
Is it better to do 10 of the way I do it or do 1 of the computer lady way of doing it? If I use my,exercise ball I can do it but probably cheating?

It really depends on what you would like to do and feel would be best to help you reach your goals. There are a lot of people that like to repeat the challenges, including this one because they want more time to continue creating a habit and even extend their training, especially if they wanted to work more on their time and/or speed of walking.

I am on day 3 and I love this challenge. I officially am a month into SparkPeople. Is it recommended that once you complete a,challenge to try a different one. I did the 5k then chose this one. Is there any benefit to switching or once I complete this to do it again

You can start over and go back to day 1 if you want. That's really up to you on where you want to start over in the challenge (you can just go back to that day).

If lateral lunges are better for your knees, then yes, go ahead and do those instead. :)

Tomorrrow will be strength session #2 for me. The forward lunges from session #1 were causing one of my knees to make a popping sound accompanied with slight pain. Would you suggest lateral lunges as a substitute or something else?

His post has been removed and we have sent him a SparkMail reminding him of our guidelines. The wall posts are limited with characters and he found a way to get around it, but the tech team will be correcting that as soon as they can.

There is a person posting off topic comments, but not only that, he is somehow able to go beyond the 130 letter limit imposed on the rest of us, the name is NGAWHETU and the profile pic is a colorful thumbs up. I am wondering how you can do this, put on longer posts as sometimes its not possible to get it one post

I am coming off of a medication that had side affects that kept me from living. Doc, gave the OK to stop the meds...this was in June...I am still having residual affects, I am really trying to push through things, but find when I do more than normal, it takes a day or 3 to recover...can I just pick up my 30 day challenge from the stop point and go from there? or should I just bag it?

thanks

How old are your shoes? A lot of times I have seen people get shin splints due to having older shoes that are worn out and not able to give the proper support and cushion that is needed. That is the first thing I would recommend checking, but we also have this article with some other tips for preventing and dealing with shin splints: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/

I restarted my challenge after being in the hospital && I'm on Day 3 now but, I always read ahead the day before to see what I need to do the next day so, I'll already know in the am. Tomorrow will be Day 4 && one of the things is a 10 min meditation walk. I usually listen to an audio book while I walk so, my question is would I need to not listen to it?

Are you experiencing any pain or trouble with those? As long as you are able to properly perform them without any pain other than muscle soreness, you should be ok. If you are having trouble with those in general or experiencing pain though, you can swap those out for another lower body exercise that works your quads, hamstrings, and glutes. Lunges and squats aren't for everyone, especially if you have any joint issues, so do be aware of your body and how you're feeling. You can use this page to find alternatives (you can select various muscles to be worked or the general lower body muscles): www.sparkpeople.com/resource/

Hope that helps!

SISSYFEB48 - I checked on this for you and you have done those challenges before and received points from them already. You have to wait a full 30 days before you can get points for the again.

Hope that helps!

Can you tell me why when I complete a day's challenge, and the box is ticked saying I have earned points, none of them show up on my daily spark point opportunities as earned? Am missing the 30points I supposedly earned today. I had this same problem with another challenge...the zen one, and just gave up and left the team. Hope you can help me figure this out.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to clear the check marks like that. Sorry about that!

I had great success with this challenge a few months ago and would like to do it again. The check marks for each day's completion are still on my calendar. How do I get the check marks off of my calendar so I can see what I have completed this time?

Thanks!

Thank you! As is typical, as soon as I posted the question, I figured it out. It's like that lost item that I can't find until I ask my family to help me find it and then suddenly it is right in front of my face, lol. Thank you for helping :)

Love this team! I just started Spark again after 2 years of being off of it. I look forward to walking for this challenge.

If you go to our main team page (click on the Team name above this box), from there you can click the "Visit Challenge Page" link, and it will take you to the calendar that shows all of the daily tasks for the challenge.

Hope that helps,

Hi! What is involved in the challenge? Will we be given an amount of walking time each week or month, will it be treadmill or walking out doors? Is this group for all levels? Me I am a beginner and my doctor would like me to walk more. I also have an inflammation in my hip that makes it difficult to walk for long periods of time but I can work around that. I need to lose weight and I know walking is the best way to do it. I don't have access to a pool or a gym at this time. Thanks!

I used knee braces mainly because of my fear & mostly because of the pain . I recommend seeing your doctor about that shot Synvics I think it was called. I was sore for a day but it subsided after the ice treatments. I'm 62 so we're not to different there. Braces are hot and can wear down your skin with prolonged use but to begin with are not bad.

I would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any exercise program. They will be able to reassure you that walking is fine, or give you alternatives based on your past medical history. If they say it's okay, just start slow and listen to your body.

How do you get over the fear of starting a walking program if you have had a knee injury? I'm close to 60 years old - I fear of the impact on my knee starting a walking program
