Yesterday shopping Publix....they had huge packs of chicken legs/thighs - you could buy a pack and get one free - Legs was at least 14 and thighs about 10

So I decided to get a pack around $9.50 (actually 2 packs but one was free).....got home and seperated with legs/thighs and had enough for 3 meals.....so only cost me about $3.16 a meal!!! Going to have hubby BBQ them tonight! YUM!!!

I think I count 8 faces??

Our Halloween will probably be back to Hard Rock and I'm dressing as a cowgirl.....and of course going with my "Elvis".

Didn't find any goodies at Thrift Shop lately. An Amish lady was in there buying dishware items by boxfuls. Someone must be getting married!
They put the Christmas items out last week. It's nice to look at, but I don't put anything out anymore.

Sharp Shopper goodies I saw were jar gravy 2/$1; dz large blueberry muffins-frozen 2.99.

I saw posted on a Harbor Freight Coupon page on FB that their Black Friday ad was posted already if you shop there.

Hope you all are finding lots of goodies!

Ok maybe not my death bed... there may have been some exaggeration...

But the fever/chills had me laid out for a couple days ha ha. Feeling much better now. Still not breathing well, but getting better'ish. We are in the middle of a dengue fever epidemic so I did check the symptoms. Not dengue, so that is good. My wife was out of town during the worst of my illness, so that was fun.

But I found a fun new store on my walk. "Japan Surplus", it is called. Some good imported, used stuff. The local products are pretty junky, so we need imports. US imports tend to be pretty expensive. This place has some nice cookware, toys, and a whole room of purses & suitcases. I think my wife will like it!

Went to Thrift Store & Farmers/Flea Market yesterday. Got some little hardy mums for $1 each, grape tomatoes pints 2/1, at Sharp Shopper they have Johnsonville smoked sausage 4-14 oz pks in 1 for $4.49; 1 pack cost about that much in other stores, got frozen pie crusts 2 in pack 2 packs $1.(DIL will make); got more brat burgers like last week and more Prego sauce. Like to stock up freezers when I can. I got GS a million candlepower spotlight for on his 4 wheeler for 50 cents. I figured it wouldn't work--but it did.

@TUKARAMA Great story! We might not have been Frugal then, but being broke or no money helped make us more Frugal now. I think that's a Good thing!!

Going to go to a Fall Festival for just something different this morning. And have seen a couple yard sales posted also!! Yeah! Have added them to my mental road map--First before FF!! Lol Hopefully I can share some great deals with you later!!

Have a Fun weekend everyone!!

I may be Frugal, BUT do you or would you make your own Sugars?? Not me, just as easy to buy in packages and not buy extra molasses. Not something in my cupboards. Grandmother had it for pancakes probably.

As a kid we would walk (about a mile) through the alleys, to the grocery store. We would check people's trash cans for glass bottles. This was back when there was a bottle deposit. By the time we got to the store we had armfuls of bottles, and got cokes and candy.

I never did understand why people threw away empties - that they paid a deposit on. The 1 quart bottle was like 20 or 25 cents deposit. That was the price of a candy bar!

I never thought of it as being frugal, just being broke ha ha

PBVHCCVH....I just read your question about the whey protein powder and how I get it to taste A-OK. It is already flavored by the company that sells it. (strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, chocolate peanut butter) It comes in a round container of 2 lb. worth of super advanced whey protein powder especially made for building muscle.

I think I started off being Frugal because mom and dad couldn't afford to buy us too many clothes......I would wear hand me downs from my older sister or my mom would sew our dresses.

I was really great at saving my money - Did lots of babysitting jobs in my earlier days and saved up...........Bought my first car in 1974.....Gremlin .....Was thrilling!!!

I gathered pop bottles along the road. 2 cents each. Then went up to 5 cents. So I'll say I was 5.
In 2nd grade I was 7, we went on a field trip to Swigarts Museum. It is a museum of antique cars. (Herbie The Love Bug is there). The teacher gave us each a nickel to spend. This would have been 1967.
I sold garden seeds after that. So I always have been ch--I mean Frugal.
There wasn't yard sales back then. There were Rummage Sales. It was always great fun to go to Grandmows to see what she found for us!!!!
But there is a bad side to all of this--I was made fun of in junior high about my clothes. It was a plaid pair of shorts. Never was a fan of plaid except on flannel shirts. Nothing was wrong with the clothes. They just didn't go with the "in" group.. I've never been in that group anyway!!

Our apples (mostly Fuji) are 20-30 cents each, depending on the size.

Our whey powder is prohibitively expensive. The 5 Lb container (about $50 in the US) is between $75 and $100 here. Many of the local shops take a large container and portion it out for sale in small batches. I use tofu or gelatin for my extra protein.

@HELPFULSPIRIT1. How do you get whey Powder so that its taste in drinks is palatable? It supposedly has no taste, but I don't care for it! My physicians have put me on 90 grams of protein daily (an unusually high amount) and I'm to use whey powder. This is a definite challenge for me!

Our prices for apples has increased from 50 cents apiece to 69 cents apiece. The bag of Pink Lady apples I bought, a 3 lb. bag, was $4.98.

My daily protein goal is 60 grams. I divide it between my 6 small meals. Whey protein powder is a help to me.

Back in the US I would keep at least a month's worth of non-perishables in my pantry. This allowed me to buy them on sale, as I used them. Also, it kept me from running out of food. In my youth we would go hungry in between paydays... I swore I would never do that if I could help it.

My wife used to shop every 2 or 3 days and had no extra food (also no refrigerator). I had to teach her to shop once a week, but I no longer stockpile food. The only stock pile I have is masa harina - I have to get it shipped from the US, so I get like 3 bags at a time.

I bought some salad fixin's and some tofu at a local market. I am in the Philippines and our local market, similar to a farmers market, is called a wet market. (wet market has perishables)

The tofu blocks are 40 cents each. The bundle of lettuce (hydroponic iceburg) was 50 cents, and the cucumber, carrot, and onion together were about 40 cents. The grocery store would be double the price for the veggies, four times the price for the lettuce, and I have never seen tofu at a grocer, so do not know what they would charge.

I have a hard time getting all my protein so I spike my eggs with tofu

No they do not and I sure miss that. Back in Texas the Kroger card was pretty good. Gave good discounts and lots of coupons. Here in the Philippines they never heard of coupons... or customer service...

One store has a point card that is ok. No discounts on food, but you get points to spend as cash. My wife basically gets a free pair of $15 sunglasses every 6 or 8 months ha ha. (the grocery store also has a department store, so she spends it there)

We have one gas station that gives lower rates if you join their club (free) and pay in cash. The general public pays a higher rate for gas.

Does your area have Grocery Store Discount Cards?

Do you buy Gift Cards with your grocery card to get (2x-4x points towards gas) larger savings?

Example I had to buy a new washer several years ago. I bought gift cards for the store selling washer with my grocery cards & (dil). The grocery store was giving 4x gas points. Gas was cheaper then so we were able to get 40 gallons of gas almost free. Had to pay under a dollar because can't give it to you free they said.

None of the local stores give any senior citizen discounts. However, both Burger King and Home Depot give discounts to both active military and veterans.

Good tips!
We like to go on "freebie outings". Yesterday on a family trip our son saw a whale rise and spout on the river so DH & I are going back to that area to park at a turnout to watch for more. Also lots of sea birds on the river.

I have saved quite a bit in cleaning costs by using vinegar (spray) & water( with tea tree oil added) with a steam mop to clean my tile floors. I also wait for laundry sales at CVS when X-rta liquid is on sale for $1.49 a gallon. I buy 12 for one years worth of detergent. I boost the detergent occasionally with baking soda 1/2 C per load and I use vinegar instead of liquid fabric softener in my machine. I also use vinegar instead of other rinse aides in my dishwasher. I go to Dollar Tree to get Breeze dryer sheets which are 55 sheets for $1.00. I have found that using them more than once works fine. Then the sheets can be reused for dusting, scrubbing, and added to drawers for scent. I have also found that Dawn can be used to remove stains from clothes. Add a drop or so scrub it in a bit then add to the wash. Really good for oil stains. I will also get the $1 spray containers of stain remover for lighter stains.

Oh yes, I buy the vinegar at the Dollar Tree for the $1 per gallon.

I saved $10.00 at Rulers grocery today. I had to spend 70 but that wasn't hard. We have some nice thrift stores in my area. Yesterday a Salvation Army had wacky Wednesday...20percent off. I bought 2 books.

@PEACEFULHOME I've been in several Goodwills. They were all very different & prices varied a lot. We were told in one store they were like franchises or something like that and that's why sales, prices etc were different.

Also quality of items varied. But they can only sell what's donated. So not the stores fault.

Sadly our two best thrift shops closed last year. We have a Good Will but according to what friends in other states are getting, ours is more expensive. One thrift store left in town that was really disorganized last time I was there. We had a Franz bread outlet. Really one of the best ways to get good buys are estate sales or garage sales.

Locally the only place we can find frugal groceries is Aldi's about 9 miles from us. On most things they are the cheapest...but not always so need to be careful shopping. Another place is Sam's Club about 30 miles from us. Unfortunately, we have no thrift shops locally.

Craig is very supportive. The rest of my family thinks we're being silly. Probably because they all are wealthy and WE'RE NOT!!

When I go to garage sales or thrift shops I'm just looking for something useful or something really inexpensive that I love. Some years back I got a small cast bronze statue of a wild cat and recently gave it to my son. He looked it up and it's worth $150.

The only really good buy was an oil painting that I got for $5, and later sold it from Sotheby's for much more.

Hi everyone,
I hope everyone's day is going great. Mine is off to a mixed start but that seems to be the norm anymore. I am looking for fitness ideas that are "fun" and cheap. I cringe when I hear the word exercise. Needless to say exercise videos, gyms, even long walks are not things I will stick with in the long run. What sort of inexpensive things do you do to disguise your exercise?
