I like the idea of using a timer, especially for jobs I donít enjoy. If I know I only have to do it for 15 or 20 minutes, it seems to be easier.

This is a dandy little device than can make tasks fun:

I make my day fun--Often use a timer. That helps me pick up the pace.

I do keep small goals---FOCUSING on One to Two only.
However, my day consists of a few or several simple tasks---normal everyday things.

I enjoy crossing each one off as I go.
It builds momentum to start and finish!
My daily tasks are not the same for me as my small goals.

I only put three things a day on my list. I know I can get those three things done and I feel a sense of accomplishment. to me the fun part is crossing them off.

I work on my list 25/5 - 25 minutes of work, then a 5 minute break. Never skip the break. After 4 cycles (2 hours), take a 15 minute break. As long as my energy is high, I can blitz through a to-do list using this technique.

Being creative is always on my daily list - knitting, zentagle-ing, or sketching in my daily journal entry. Sometimes stitching up holiday decorations or table linens or window treatments. Daydreaming is on the list, too - new design elements for my huge yard! I work newspaper crossword puzzles every morning with coffee:) I stay on the lookout, too, for something that makes me laugh out loud every day and record it in my journal.

NEW TOPIC for week of November 11-18

Last week on the wall, we discussed making lists. I asked how many of you make lists?

I see a big difference when I make a simple list. But I added something else.
To stay motivated and add momentum to the day, I play FUN MIND GAMES.

For instance, I put high priority on top---but have found fun ways to soar through the day instead of dragging my feet.

Question: What are some ways you can make a list fun emoticon

I will post my answers later after others have a chance.

My goal for November is to finish the book I started writing. Not far to go and it will be completed. This has been both a long term goal-since I started late January of this year. But I broke it down into chapters---which made it a series of small goals.

Hey y'all, so glad to be back on with all of you. My expectations for November are pretty high but aI feel if I can go through the past few months and make it out unscathed I should be able to post every day and log in all my fitness and nutrition. By December 1st I want to be back where I was before all this started going sideways. I may only post a blog a few days a week but if I can at least log in and spend some quality time with y'all I think it will sooo helpful to all of us. Y'all are doing so great and you are inspiring me to get back to it and soon be totally back. So with that in mind here is to Day one of my BIG comeback!!! WooHoo!!!!

My plan is to get back to the basics, the things that have always worked for me. Track my food, stay within my range, walk every day, do a HIIT workout 3-4 days/week, do a ST workout 3 days a week, meditate daily, and keep a journal.

WEEKLY MESSAGE/OR TOPIC

Now repeating the QUESTION from Sunday- emoticon -to make it easier. Wonderful to see so many posting!

Here it is:
We are now on day FOUR of a new month. . What are your expectations and where do you expect to be by or before December 1st? Think about it--Visualize Success and share how you plan to get results.

Mine will be to record activity daily. I focus a lot on ST and weight bearing exercise--with the use of weights and stretch bands. I may or may not see weight loss--But I keep going and focus on quality time on a consistent basis.
And I pay attention to the portions I am eating and avoid splurges!

Definitely weighing, measuring and tracking. Goad is maintenance through the holidays. Have been thru the holidays 9 times w/Sparks already, so pretty aware of the pitfalls and dangers.

I am currently participating in the 5% Fall Challenge and it is keeping me focused and motivated to stay the course - eating what is on my menu plan, staying within allotted calorie range, and consistency with my fitness schedule.

My hope is that this will bring me down into the 150s which I haven't seen in 30 years!

I've been suffering some burnout and lack of motivation. My plan for November is to get my mojo back. I'm trying some new things with my nutrition and taking a bit of a break from my rigorous exercise schedule. I may also take a day or two off from work, just to have some time to myself. I feel like I need a day, with no chores or errands, and with no other people. A day to regroup. Don't know if I'll get the chance to do that, but it's on my mind.

My November 2019 goal is simple, and one that I expect to continue in subsequent months, even though it is a difficult one: only consume water in the car. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Most of my commuting, errands and volunteer work requires a car - it is a major portion of my personal, non-work time - so I can tell you that, having started this part way through October 2019, I believe that is how I lost two pounds in two weeks when I was at the same weight for the previous six weeks.

@RUTHIEBEAR -- You have been sending out SparkGoodies from your personal account for a long time... They were instrumental with having me be more active in the SP community
!!
I had very poor experiences in some forums in SP - some said that my communication was too formal - so I was very reluctant to post - but I always knew that SP has great, vetted articles - so I stayed in the Community, just not looking to be there for others.
The speed of high speed Internet, and the no-ads interface of the current SP has made the experience much more palatable for me. And I reached out to a long-time SP member who graciously took the time to explain to me, someone that individual did not know, that I COULD find a SparkTeam / SparkTeams that would meet my needs, without fear of harsh criticism.
!!
I share my experience, because, there are reasons that some SP members keep their pages private. I chose to keep my MySparkPage public because of my role as a Team Leader. And I deliberately choose to not identify my employment details or upcoming events in detail -- I don't want that kind of attention drawn to me.

My goal for November 1. Not gain any weight this month 2. Return to strength training after being sick for a month. Today I went on a short bike ride. Probably the last of the season here in MN: 36 and no snow on the pavement.

become more consistent with extra movement five days of the week. I can usually hit one or two but that is not enough to build up muscle or stamina.

My goal for the month of November is to become consistent again with my visits to the gym, taking classes that are easier on my knees. I would like to see a 3 - 4 pound weight loss on December 1st.

My plan is to lose another 3-5 lbs. by December (down 1 today). That will put me in the 150's for the first time in more than 15 years. I remarried in 2002 and unfortunately adopted some bad habits from DH and gained 30+ lbs. before getting myself turned around.

I exercise a minimum of 5 days each week, mostly walking and virtual walks on the treadmill. I follow the Beck programme of cognitive behavioral therapy and also intermittent fasting, eating all of my food in an 8-hour period and fasting for 16.

My November goal weight wise is maintenance. Have been in maintenance since 2010, but still need to be mindful! Most important to track and menu plan. That helps a lot!

Getting my exercise in. Miss Lilly the pooch is making sure the walks are taken!

ONe way I try to work against lack of motivation is by making appointments at the gym to work with my trainer. It keeps me going there, even when I would rather stay in bed.
ANother thing I get weary of is cooking day after day. to stay motivated I look for and try new recipes.

Blessings,
Ruthie

I grow weary at times thinking of the time I spend insuring I eat healthy and exercise (I could be readling or knitting or going on an adventure for heaven's sake)...and remind myself of the alternative:) I acknowledge the feelings that come up, give them space to be, and continue moving forward.

October for me was productive I've got myself out of a deep funk. I limited my social media time, watching news. Started back with being more mindful of what was going in my life.

Listen to relaxing music and using Gaia app to watch and listen to positive podcasts helps me to get grounded again

I was definitely burned out at the end of the summer. We had been babysitting our 4 1/2 year-old granddaughter for almost 2 years while her mother was at work, and we were both exhausted, although my DH wouldn't admit it. We are 76 and 79, and she is a lively, intelligent, curious little girl who kept us on the run.

When she started school in September, we had a holiday, and returned feeling much better, and more able to keep up with the rest of our lives... volunteering (me), figure skating (DH), a big house and garden (me), 4 motorcycles and 2 classic cars (DH)...

Not having to get up at 6:30 to be ready for her 7 a.m. arrival helped a lot. Not cleaning up her left-overs helped get me back on track and I've lost 7 lbs. since mid-September.

Understanding that I need to look after myself first, before I can look after anyone else, was hard... trying to make others understand was even harder, but I stuck to it.

We still see our granddaughter at least 3 times every week, taking her to skating lessons, a dance programme and swimming after school, and having her stay for dinner at least one day is great. We all love it, and look forward to our time together.

With weariness or burnout, I need to remember to take better care of myself.

Getting enough sleep is a must for me. Sometimes I wake up after only 4 hours sleep and it is hard to fall back to sleep.

If I am burned out, It may be due to being too active many days. I then need to slow down and get more rest and it does help me to feel lots better. Prayer is also on my list for both reasons, weariness and burnout.
Staying positive and having goals does help me to keep moving forward.

1----What things do you do to revive and recover when you face weariness or burnout. How do you get or stay motivated?

A. If I am lagging, I make sure I am pacing myself, take necessary breaks--and usually a good night sleep is what I need.

Also---I keep the carrot dangling---that is something I am looking forward to wearing, but a tiny bit snug. This motivates me to keep going

I plan ahead each day for meals and keep tracking them. I also plan exercise routines and do some at the gym and some at home. Making a decision to stay strong and follow good choices and drink water and move more (even with health problems). When I have burnout with exercises I take 2 rest days and then check SP videos for something new. Walking is relaxing and I make most of my choices then.

October has been good for me finding different fiber choices. Food burn out happens often, so the fall farmer market have been helpful. People are happy to share information about their produce.
