Go for it girl! What ever pace you set for yourself is going to be best. All I can say is to make sure you have a rest day in between. I flew through weeks 1-3, and had to repeat week 4 over. You'll know by listening to your body.

emoticon Don't worry about finishing first, last, or anywhere in between. I'm assuming that you aren't running now. I would imagine that finishing the C25K program and finishing the race would = SUCCESS!!! I think if you take the time and work the program, you'll be ready for your race and do quite well. I've noticed that there are runners/walkers of every level at the races I've been to. Some have been turtles and some have been hares. One boy ran sub 5 min miles for the entire race to win overall male. I think the slowest female had +15 minute miles. I walk at that pace... Everyone is an individual. I'd encourage you to give it a shot and only compare you to you!!! Just be the best you that you are capable of... That's all anyone can ask of you. emoticon emoticon

Yes - you CAN do it!! You have given yourself plenty of time to prepare so you can either complete the program and just build base mileage working on improving as a runner or you can take your time with the training program and not have the stress of needing to finish it NOW.

I say get out there and get started now! Woohoo!!

You are probably giving yourself more time that you actually NEED to prepare for the 5K. But that's okay. There is nothing wrong with giving yourself extra time to build success. I repeated each level of the C25K program three times before moving on to the next. Even at that pace you would be ready by October. Now that I am at Level 5 I am feeling more confident and plan to move to Level 6 after one week. So even if you take extra time at first to move slowly through the program you may find that you want to move along at a more standard pace as you progress.

Good luck.

I'm just beginning my weightloss/fitness journey. I want to complete a 5k by the end of this calendar year. Actually, I am shooting for a 5k that is in October because I live in Michigan and I don't know if I should start running out of the blue in the middle of winter. If I start training in April would I be ready for an October race? On the other hand, am I giving myself too much time? I want to be fully prepared and I don't want to be last place! I am interested in any/all comments and suggestions. Many thanks!
-Brenda
