Ok so since signing up at Spark People I have lost 25 pounds and hope I never ever find it. I do more cross training, such as bike riding and swimming. I visit the sporting goods department at my local store more often, checking for any new items and to try out the different pound free weights. Life seems to always be gettting better. HAVE A GREAT HEALTHY ACTIVE DAY emoticon

M.jaye gave you some good advise.
Make sure you are keeping your trackers to see where you can improve your menu. Try staying around the lowest number on the food scale that SP gave you.
You can do it. Just take one day at a time.
Mary :)

OK my friend, lets look at it a different way then. You said that you don't eat "the greatest." What does that mean? Where are you not following your plan? Let's start with that. Tell me what choices you think are not good ones and we'll go from there. I am HERE for you. Let's figure this out as a team.

PS - Your kids are GORGEOUS!!! I *LOVE* the pictures of you with them. You obviously love them dearly - how lucky they are. One of my main motivations to get healthy is also to be here for my kids. Come on Duane, let's figure this out together.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement. Yes I do drink atleast 8 glasses of water. I actually drink closer to 2 gallons a day. Lol. I try to eat as much fruits and veggies as much as possible. Very pick though. But then you very much. I'll try everything you suggested.

Hi Duane!

First - GREAT JOB - youn are still here and have not given up!!!

TOmorrow is a new day, and the only way to make changes is by making small changes gradually. Pick ONE thing and DO it. For instance, do you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day? If not, start there...and do it EVERY day to see how long you can go. Start the small streak. Once that becomes habit, pick something else small and make that your goal. How many fresh fruits and veggies do you eat each day? Make your goal 1 more than usual...then DO it every day. See how long your streak can go.

You CAN do this. Just take baby steps. before you know it, you'll realize that you have make some real changes and created healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Best of luck!!!

M.Jaye

Hi, I've been a part of this team for a while but I don't really reply on here at all anymore. Well I've been very discouraged because of my weight. I've actually been gaining weight. I hate it because I can't really get out and do much do to my severe back pain. I'm seriously starting to consider bypass surgery. I didn't want to have to come to that but as of now nothing else has worked for me. I don't eat horribly, I also don't eat the greatest. I want to be around for my kids to have kids. (that's a long ways away. lol) Thanks everyone for letting me get this out. Bye for now, Duane

I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds all month, BUT the good news is that my shorts (the ones I just bought at the beginning of the month in a smaller size) are getting big.

WOW - hard to believe we've been here a year, isn't it?

Hi Gang! It's nice to be here with all of you. ...We have accomplished so much in one year...!
The year has ended leaving me far from where I wanted to be, but not too far from my first goal weight. But I will continue to look forward, and only look back to see how much we have accomplished. I am excited about the new SparkYear! Since we are heading in a healthy direction, just think what we have to look forward to in the new year!

My suggestion on the yogurt is not to buy those little 6 or 8 oz. cups with a little fruit in (mostly syrup). Instead for real food and staying value, buy a large carton of lowfat plain yogurt, sweeten to taste with splenda. Each morning take out a whole cup of the yogurt and add a whole cup of thawed frozen berries. This makes a substantial morning meal, not a little snack with little food value and certainly not enough to keep you full thru till lunch.

I have to eat it with a Tbls. of brown sugar and 1 Tbls. of milk. The brown sugar does it for me. Before SP, I would eat the Brown Sugar flavored oatmeal, but there are a lot of calories there. I have found that I can eat the plain oatmeal and put the brown sugar on it myself (with the touch of milk, of course!) for less calories.

Good luck!

I eat 1 cup Stoneyfield Lowfat plain yogurt (with splenda to sweeten) mixed with 1 cup of thawed frozen mixed berries, every morning. I don't have room in my program for all the calories in just a small portion of oatmeal (which will not keep me full until lunch).
The yogurt and berries are creamy and delicious, alot of food for relatively few calories, and with Stoneyfield - the yogurt adds fiber to the berries.

I have no suggestions for you unfortunately. I was just saying today that I needed to try oatmeal again. It's been years, but I always had a problem with the consistency.... I will follow this thread and see what others suggest though!

Does anyone else other than me have a hard time eating oatmeal? I get the flavored kinds and keep to my regulated caloric range but sometimes it is just so difficult swallowing that sticky stuff no matter what it tastes like. Does anyone have any tricks to making it more palatable? I like the benefits from oatmeal so I'm not giving up on it yet.

I agree, I always start my day with a bowl of oatmeal. Nothing else does the trick. I only wish I could have my bigget meal in the middle of the day.
Gwen, you are doing great and thanks for the tips!

Hi Everyone. Oatmeal works best for me too. As long as I eat oatmeal or eggs, I don't need a snack before lunch. Mary

Hey Everyone,

I've discovered a new revelation. More matter what breakfast I have, it's Oatmeal that gives me the best "jump start" to losing weight. Once in a while I can have the eggs, bacon & bread, but not too often. Then it's two steps back, till I get on track again. By this time it's "plateau" stage here I come.

But at the same time, the big breakfast, helps me stay within calorie range. My heaviest meal is lunch. When I drink the water & protein drinks or a snack it keeps me full. Since at times I'm eating dinner after 7:30 - 8:00 pm, I try to keep it lite.....

So, since I'm taking in fewer clories, I'm losing weight. Don't want my body to go into starvation mode and I stop losing weight. Bummer and not a good setback.

Well, I'll get over this too. Just wanted to vent.

Thanks. Keep up the good work everyone.

Yes, I think a new challenge is a great idea! I know for me the hardest thing for me to do is exercise, that followed by over eating!! Hmmm... a pattern...

I think we all have fallen short of our goals at some point or another. I think that Pippy4 is right we need to regroup and set new goals with a new determination. After all you cannot fail if you don't quit!

Shall we get a new challenge going to help us get back into the swing for 2008? Do you have any suggestions??

I think everyone has been busy with the holiday and all. We all need to regroup and reconnect. December was a hard month dieting wise. Well, actually for me September thru December have been hard for me to be honest. But I am putting my focus back here to continue working on my goals that I seemed to lose sight of for a while.

My problem was that I did fit in a satisfying evening snack of half an apple, and 1 oz of cheese. but then my husband opened a 16 oz beer and since he had already had to many decided he couldn't finish it so I finished it for him there were about 12 oz left and then my kids made chocolate chip cookies and I couldn't resist them when they pulled them out of the oven and they were fresh and hot..so I popped two into my mouth at about 110 calories a piece so in a matter of 30 min I had added 320 calories to my already used up budget of calories for the day putting me at the high end of the 1600's. Urggg... but I'm sure the 50 sit ups I had done earlier helped some...right???? and I walked/ jogged for 45 minutes too.

Yeah Bridget!

Cotillion - I have the same problem with evening eating, so I've planned in a very satisfing snack that helps me stay on program. For me it is one of those No sugar Kozy Shack pudding cups (90 cals and 5 gm. of fiber for the chocolate) plus 5 prunes (100 cals and 3 gm. of fiber). I love prunes! I generally eat around 1300 - 1390 cals on the weekdays and can fit this in quite well.

Well, I weighed in today and have officially lost 40lbs. That should be sufficient motivation to keep it under control with the Thanksgiving eating tomorrow!

I hope all of you have a safe & happy Thanksgiving!

The holidays are tough on everyone. I know they are tough on me...I am trying to keep my calorie intake under control. It is hard with all of the wonderful food. And it is easier to lose control with all of the company and they are overindulging......
Excuses I know but that is how it seems to go for me. I am off for a few days for the holidays. I hope you all h ave a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!

Hugs!

Not doing the best with keeping my calorie intake below 1550 the last few days and it ends up being something I eat or drink late in the evening before I go to bed. I do really good during the day then mess up at night. But I start each day as a new day and exercise and just keep on keeping on. I will overcome and start loosing weight again.

Two weeks or so ago, I actually took my rings off for the first time in probably 2 years, but I couldn't do it for the next few days. Now I have been able to take them off for a few days in a row. So today I took them off and cleaned them. WOW! I don't have a huge engagement ring, but it really suited my finger when I got it when I was thin. I had honestly forgotten how pretty my engagement and wedding rings are! My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I keep looking at them like I have never seen them before! I can't believe how emotional and motivating it is!

Hi....it has been slow for me.....as far as weight loss. But...have lost quite a few inches with walking and I drink my water every day. Now...need to really work VERY hard on better eating habits.

It is hard to change habits....especially addictive ones....there is alot of support here at sparky...alcohol is not easy to curtail alone....and in person support is so helpful to many, many people. Maybe, consider AA just once.....see if it helps.

Blessings on the journey.
J

Glad to hear that you arn't suffering from depression. I bet your approach is going to work just fine. It is wise to pay attention to habits, like you are doing. Wise indeed. You are doing great!! Wonder

Opps..didn't mean that I'm literally depressed. I'm a very upbeat and happy person. I just meant that I felt depressed when I stepped on the scale. I guess disappointed would have been a better word. I know since I was talking about the alcohol it was easy to infer that I'm depressed. I don't think I need AA either. I work 11-12 hours a day. The alcohol does not control me and I don't hide it or do it alone. Just have a little problem stopping when I should on the weekend. But I don't drink and drive. I'm usually home when I drink. But I didn't drink at all yesterday and as I said I'm just going to take it one day at a time. I'm going to try to keep my calorie count consistantly close to 1200 calories the next few weeks to see if I can get the weight loss to start again.

Hello,

I was on Zoloft for almost a year, it really helped me, and didn't destroy my stomach like some of the others. But you shouldn't take it if you will be drinking much( it does not mix well with the alcohol). I think you are going in the right direction Cotillion- to track the alcohol and also how you feel the next day will really help you to see what is does to you. Alcohol actually increases depression and overall yucky feeling. I believe you can do this, sounds like you are aware, and that right there is the first key step in getting better.
Hang in there. We are here for you.

I myself also had a 1 lb setback. My scale had broken and it was reading 195(which I loved!!) but knew wasn't true, so I got a new digital one, and it indicated I am 231. But I am not changing my ticker back, I am just going to work harder and lose it and more.

Stay strong and live long!! Wonder

I didn't really start off strong. I didn't get started seriously til Sept.

Have you considered AA? No, really, it may help. Also, there are great meds now for depression, can you ask your Doctor about Prozac or something?

Just need to know if others are having a struggle after all this time or not. Did great the first 4 months but now seem to be struggling. Not in everything and I know I won't always do everything just right but I've really been having problems lately. One thing is I've been drinking alcohol to much and I know that sabotages my weight loss. I was so depressed when I stepped on the scale last week that I didn't even enter my weight on the tracker. But the good things is I started my period the next day so maybe is its just PMSing. But I know I haven't been doing as good with my eating either but I keep justifying because I know its a long haul thing that I have to learn to live with and there are going to be times we eat things we know we shouldn't. I am still keeping up with my exercising though. I am going to do the journal thing with the alcohol, I usually only drink the most on the weekend and late at night right before I go to bed. But I know I will feel better in the long run if I stop drinking. I am going to write in my journal each night about how good I felt about myself during the day because I did not drink the night before. Hopefully this will encourage me to keep it up each and everyday as we all know we can only deal with one day at a time. I hope you all are still being successful in your weight loss. I only put back onl 3.5 lbs and I guess thats not bad for 4 months.
