There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.
When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And
maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

Wow, haven't checked in here in ages. My knee is much better. I've taken off some weight, am doing ST regularly and have regained a lot of mobility. I still have to be careful to not reinjure the knee. I have to be careful also not to walk too much --- or too little. I had a couple of 15,000 plus days during vacation with no problem. I even climbed to the top of a big hill in a little village in the south of France. It was a gradual uphill hike but there were some rocky chateau ruins at the end that had me pause for a minute to assess. Did them slow and cautiously. So glad I could enjoy that view at the end! Oh, and walk back down even more carefully!

Thanks for the encouragement, Lita and Holly. I had my last of 6 appointments yesterday.

While I don't feel a big difference, I think if I'm faithful to do the exercises she gave me, there will be progress over time. If nothing else, my stability and range of motion will be maintained, I'll avoid further injury, and postpone any need for surgery.

I'd like to get one of these

...but not until I get back from Florida. And then I also plan to start going back to the gym. It's been over a year due to this knee thing and also cataract surgeries in late 2017.

Also, we'll see if the doctor will prescribe another 6 appointments.

Blessings today,
Michelle

good job Michelle!!
i remember when i had my first knee surgery. i had zero range of motion. i was in the regular hospital for 2.5 weeks, then got moved to a huge, well know rehab center. i was there 2 months then outpatient for another 3 months. i remember the day i finally got a revolution around with the pedal on the bike. they gave me a HUGE party..cake, blowers, balloons, everything.
it was kinda fun!

Change of plans - I had my third appointment on Thursday. I had done a ton of walking the day before. Due to train cancellations and delays, I HAD to. So I was a little sore when I went to the appointment.

She spent a lot of time massaging and manipulating the kneecap area and stretching the whole leg. The massage felt really good as the muscles were quite tight. Did the balance and strengthening exercises in her training area and will do them again here today at home. Today, I'm going to get the bike out of the cellar! It's finally spring!

Blessings today,
Michelle

It went well...I don't expect big, immediate results. She just did the manipulation and stretching again and gave me some other exercises. I asked specifically for ones I can do at home or at the gym. Last time , the balance work she gave me was on machines she has in her practic, hard to recreate at home. So yesterday she showed me two with the stretchie band thing.

Thanks for asking! I don't see her again for another week.

Blessings today,
Michelle

I have a great PT. I seriously wouldn’t be walking without him!
The first appointment (they call it intake here) was much like yours with no manipulation.
Wait till they get you on the balance ball thing!
My first pt when it was just for meniscus repair not TKR the guy I had (loved him too) would standvon that ball on one leg and squat all the way down and back up, no holding anything. I never got there but I finally could do it holding the barre!
Good luck..work hard therapy really help!!

I was diagnosed with a baker's cyst a year ago and, after a recent MRI, with some slight miniscus damage. My doctor and I want to avoid surgery, so he suggested PT. I went back to my old therapist last week, but so far she has cancelled 2 appointments due to illness. I'm really hoping she gets and stays healthy!

She's an excellent therapist. In addition to her PT background, she has training as an osteopath but I'm not sure she ever finished her certificate. She was working on it when I last saw her for other issues about 10 years ago. But she helped me a lot back then, so it was natural that I would go back.

In our first appointment, she looked a bit shocked when I said I'd like to be able to run again! Might be wishful thinking indeed as I'm 67 and haven't run in a couple of years due to various health issues. So what are your other goals?, she asked. I want to be more mobile, have better balance and be able to go on looong (sometimes Nordic) walks without pain. I'd also like to know which machines I should and shouldn't use at the gym (when I finally do go back!)

She didn't do much - first tested my range of motion. (I'm able to bend fully without pain.) She then manipulated my knee, saying that she was re-positioning the knee cap to give it better alignment. She then gave me two exercises on devices she has in her mini-gym. Both involved balance. A lot of engaging the core going on!

Next appointment is next Tuesday. I may post this as a blog later, but I thought more "kneesters" would see it here. Comments welcome!

Blessings today,
Michelle
