I just don't understand cleaning before the cleaning ladies get there---LOL Where are you going on your vacation? I know what you mean about the list going round and round in your brain as I often do that, too. Always nice to look forward to a vacation.
No overnight trips planned for me but I am going on a bus trip up to the Philadelphia Flower Show in March---always a mood booster for me.

Did a bunch of clean up yesterday, as it was sunny and energized me. All is ready for the cleaning ladies. The kitchen is void of anything on the counters so they and the cupboards can be cleaned. They had to cancel two weeks ago, so the house is definitely in need. Kept up with cleaning the bathroom fixtures, and DH vacuumed before company, but the wood floors need attention.

Washing and ironing are all done. After they leave, I will start packing for vacation. My list is lolling about in my head.

Pat my Samsung does the same thing---LOL---I definitely like it much better than the Maytag I had. Hope your mom was feeling better yesterday. You must have needed the sleep.
We are going back into the school building today---sure hope they got rid of the odor---they did a bunch and still wasn't sure what caused it. I have a funeral to attend so will leave and go back---wish people did not have funerals at 11.

Mom is 94. I will call later today to see if she is more alert and rested.

Unbelievably, I slept from 11 till 8. And I had not taken anything that would make me sleepy. I think the stress of getting ready for a party for Mom, plus two church services did me in.

Got up and started laundry right away. Just heard the little song my Samsung front loader plays when it's done, so it's off for another laundry load.

Pat, that is sad that she felt so bad. How old is she? That doesn't sound good with the confusion---hope they got a doctor to check her out. Glad you all still got to enjoy the meal.
Guessing you must live near Garfield's home? Sounds interesting. I have visited 5 president's homes---all in Virginia---Washington's, Jefferson's, Madison's, Tyler's, and Harrison's---the last 2 are close to Williamsburg.

For all the planning and purchasing, the family ended up having lobster Newburg in puff pastry shells, fresh asparagus with lemon and steamed corn without the birthday "girl". Son #2 and wife went to pick up Grandma and she was asleep in the bed. Waking her, he found her confused and wanting to go right back to sleep. Aides couldn't get her up either and said she refused food. She has a bad cough, but was fine yesterday. How disappointing.

If I can get my neighbor to join me, I think I'll go to Mentor to the James A. Garfield Presidents' Day festivities tomorrow.

I sure hope they figure out the odor so we can go back to normal.
It is hard to give up certain things----but remember if the kids don't know or want it, it will end up being given or tossed. Tough thoughts on that but maybe it will help you decide. There are certain things I have told my youngest about----he's the one to keep those things----the others would just toss them.

Won't it be interesting to find the source of the odor. A three-day weekend is always welcomed.

I have a load of stuff that is my mom's and I'd like to get it out of here, just haven't quite determined that I can let it go for a song.

Our payment only went up a few dollars. We lived in our former house for 25 years; this one 6.

It's a lovely day, and I'm invited to a double birthday party, but I'd have to get gifts, and I really need to clean my house and get the ironing done so it's ready for Mom's birthday party tomorrow.

Pat, congrats on the shorter mortgage term---did you recently purchase your house to be able to redure the years? We have now been in our house 10 years but got an offer like that ----but it was for 20 years---which is what we have left now--so it wouldn't have made sense---plus i know I have been knocking a few months off at the end by sending in extra money each month--plus I don't want to go over what we pay now. Mine just dropped due to not having to have the 2nd insurance on it for borrowing the full amount---so now I am sending a bit more extra towards the principal each month.
Susan, you have a good system set up for you. Glad your sister is willing and interested enough to help you with those projects. I couldn't even get my sister to help clean out the house when my mom died---and now she is in Oregon so no way for her to come by and help with that stuff. I am glad I kept the things I did because I am sure she would have just thrown them out.
Our school is being inspected and trying to figure out a horrible odor that was making many sick---staff and students---kids had off yesterday but staff had to report to a church for the day. They still have no idea what is causing it but we won't go back in until it is gone---they are not sure what is going to happen at this moment---Federal inspectors and the health department are now involved.
I have a 3 day weekend so maybe I will work some more on the stuff in the spare room and clean kitchen counters. I did get rid of the Valentine llama stuff I had for my gd---took it over to her last night---and she showed me how to use some things on my phone---LOL

Lecates, yep, the lack of clutter is calming me. But since it's not ALL gone yet, I'm mostly happy because I have found places for the things that I can use, OR, have found myself being able to RELEASE other items to a donate pile, now that the emotional hold is lessening since Mom and Dad died.
Having binders is my favorite thing. When my sister is here to help me work on The Collection, it is WONDERFUL to know that as soon as she asks for something, I know EXACTLY where it's at. The different sides of the family are in different 2 1/2 inch binders and since they are labeled accordingly, we can just slide them out and get to work!
Right now my desk top has the last half of photos from one 1960's book that I still need to scan.
I'm kind of on PAUSE while my son is home on Leave, then Sis and I will have more time to get back into it.
Sometimes, to just keep the flow going, I come back and scan a few pics at a time, because.....progress is PROGRESS!

Pat, my technique has been to put one item at a time in it's proper place. If it doesn't have a proper place, I create one. I try to do all the same-size binders so they look nice in their place.
I have a zippered binder for ALL my sparkpeople stuff...even a measuring tape and index cards and pens to write motivational quotes on. Now I know where my little jots and tittles go...either on the bulletin board above a desk, or in my binder.

I keep finding photos from Mom's collection...like neighborhood block party photos or reunions or just friends. Instead of throwing them on an EXASPERATION pile to be dealt with later, I just prepare a binder with those plastic sheet protectors and slip the photos right inside. One for Work friends, one for neighbors, etc.
When I find a slip of paper that has an address or phone number written on it, I take it straight to the ADDRESS binder. Even if I slip it into the front pocket for now, at least I know where to look.

One thing I obtained a lot of from Mom's house is un-used desk items. Folders, manila envelopes, blank name tags, empty notebooks, photo paper of different sizes. I put anything like that into the top drawer of my file cabinet.
(My genealogy desk is a door, painted black, lying across two two-drawer file cabinets.)
In the bottom drawer is where I store ALLLLLLLL of Mom's blank genealogy charts and how-to-research information that she obtained from library classes or genealogy club.

So little strategic moves like those, turns the clutter piles into I-know-exactly-where-it-is-when-I-want-it moments of joy.

Annnnnd… I'm also discovering time to do things like you want to do...study.

Congrats on your money savings on that mortgage!

Susan, as I read your post, then look around my own computer emoticon space, I heave a sigh. Wishful thinking that I will ever get to reading all these books or go back through my notebooks of sermon notes.
Glad you put your shoulder to the wheel and got your space into its happy place. emoticon

Happy Valentine's Day emoticon to all. It's a snow-covered day here, but the sun is out and caused such sparkling on the branches a while ago. I was surprised to see three chipmunks yesterday, running for cover in the backyard.

I just gotta say, my craft room, since making an office corner for Hubby, brings me JOY AND DELIGHT!
My writing desk corner is so cozy. I've used the desk a couple of times, but not regularly yet as there is still some tweeking to do among all the drawers, but the all the furniture is where it should be. Every time I walk through the room now, a feeling of delight comes over me. I have a brown ceramic rabbit that my mom had painted back in the 70's sitting next to my colored pencils...makes me think of Beatrix Potter. Gives me a thrill!

I'm so glad I am decluttering and organizing.

I read something the other day; I'm not sure where I saw it:
"Which Decision Moves Me Closer to My Goal?"

I immediately wrote it on an index card and placed it on the pretty bulletin board above my OTHER desk in the Genealogy Room.
Now, when I get overwhelmed by my mother's collection, I get a glimpse of that question...and I gain a sense of calm.
A lot of the projects now are INSIDE projects. Inside drawers, inside binders. It's a peaceful feeling knowing that, when I pull open a drawer, I will see that there is a place for everything and everything can smoothly movie into it's proper place!
Yes, I'm really quite there!
It's like...I've grown up ….or something.
(Yes, I know...I'll be 52 next month....still...….)

Also, when I walk in and see my hubby sitting at his own desk working on a project...my heart skips a beat! It's one of those 'All is right with my world' moments.
It's very unifying to share a 'dream space' together.

Glad your son could help. I am the same way, too.
We had to evacuate our school yesterday---ac unit went wonkers---kids and staff feeling sick---what a mess! I rushed around and aggrevated my knee again.
I did find a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show yesterday----I will go by myself so I can move at my own pace and can rest when I feel the need without worrying I am keeping someone else from enjoying it.

I've been very lazy these last two days. Finished my novel today and did nothing else other than clean up the kitchen and make dinner. Now it's time to clean it again.
DH needed help from #2 Son with a spreadsheet. He's working on the projected budget for this year and is woefully inept (as am I, which is why I can't help) at working with these documents. I went along, because I haven't seen my grandpuppies for almost 3 months (and the kids live 10 minutes away).
DIL has brought up the idea of making banners for the background of the areas where the organ and piano, and the orchestra are. We are live streaming the Easter Sing that evening. We are doing a mock up first, but week after next we go on vacation, and two weeks later they are going.

That is why it is called a cat and mouse game. I watched my cat bat a mouse around near a pile of leaves and the stupid mouse didn't have enough wherewithal to escape under the leaves.

Dinner went well. Within a couple hours of them leaving, the dishwasher was loaded, run and emptied and the table linens washed. There was enough pork left on the roast for each couple to go home with a carryout container to feed them for the next night and then some. We're having pork fried rice tonight.

Got nothing done today except to read and talk to a friend who called and just needed to chat.

Pat, annoying creatures for sure. My dumb cat catches one, then lets it go---we get so mad at him when he does that! Hope everything turns out well for your meal---it all sounds delish! And glad your dh pitched in with the cleaning.
I did my taxes yesterday and worked on the spare room floor---it does look better in there now. While taking a break and sitting on the bed, I noticed some things I can get rid of on the shelves in there when I get to where I am done with the lower stuff.

DH indeed vacuumed the family room and the stairs. He was cleaning in his office and came up with a swiffer sheet with mouse droppings on it. He said they were on his file cabinet. Eww! His office is an addition and I'll bet that little bugger came in through the gas heater, which is not working. Time to get out the traps.

I watched a number of videos of people preparing a fresh pork shoulder for the crock pot. I got a workout just removing the skin. Truly, I was breathing hard, wrestling with that thing. Mixed most of the fruit for the ambrosia, but will wait till tomorrow to add the pears and mayo. Potatoes au gratin are precooking now. I'll warm them up for a good half hour before dinner. DH picked up some dinner rolls he thought looked good when he was at the store. I planned on making a loaf of that bread that only needs to bake another 10-12 minutes. Oh well, I threw it back into the freezer for another night.

Oh, he can push the dust mop around up there as well as vacuum---LOL
My Dh couldn't go out and putter about yesterday so he actually cleaned something I was going to have him do this weekend with my help. That was a nice surprise. He did go down in the basement and puttered around down there and found some moldy clothes from his dad---his dad has been dead over 40 years---he put on a mask and gloves to take them out and put them in a double trash bag and got them out of the house. Why in the world he even kept them is beyond me? His dad was so skinny and not way my dh could have ever fit in those coveralls. I am glad I didn't know anything about them.

I was telling DH that I wondered how I would make it to Florida, having to sit that long with my current hip pain. He countered that he felt like a cold had settled in his lower back, blaming it on the weather. Ah yes, the old bones can predict those changes. He took some cold medicine and awoke this morning, saying it had done the trick and all his pain was good. Great! You can vacuum! That is the one thing he always offers to do when we are having company, although we have had wood installed in almost all the upstairs rooms. Hmmm.

Do your cleaning in small sessions so as not to aggrevate your back---I do that not to overstress my knee--Just make a list of things to do and cross them off---they will get done this way and you will know what you have done already---and maybe your dh can pitch in on a couple of them.

I just finished spending a lot of time, contacting SP about an ad they have on their site, as well as writing a blog about it. I'll let you read the blog at your leisure.

Because I took a pain pill Monday that made me oversleep Tuesday, then made me drowsy all day (leading to a long nap), I was unable to sleep last night. Finally, I got up at 4, had a bowl of cereal, read for a while, then went back to bed for a couple hours. I need my circadian rhythm back!

We're having some people for Sunday dinner, so I have a lot of cleaning to do the rest of the week. Back issues keep me from tackling it all in one day. If I did, I'd be taking another pain pill and going through this crazy mess all over again. emoticon

When I have some time, I want to look up the Philly Flower Show pix. Wish the smell came with the viewing! emoticon

Pat, the Flower Show is just that---companies have designed flower beds, etc to go with the theme or they do the arrangements to match the theme. There are venders but they are off to the side---and they have lots of interesting items that you can buy. I agree, local ones are not even remotely having anything to do with gardening anymore, but if you need a service done, it is a good place to go talk with people about it and set up appointments. Google the Philadelphia Flower show to see some of the pictures from past years---it is amazing and brings on a desire to get out and plant. And the smell of a lot of hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips as well as a multitude of other flowering items is really wonderful. And there are local gardeners and across the state that put in entries of their plants or create miniature arrangements or designs. I love when they have hats made out of flowers or gowns. The only one I didn't like very much was the Hawaiian theme one---there is only so much one can do with them and as much as I like Bird of Paradise, it just seemed to be the same thing in every exhibit.

If we took the I-77 expressway due north, it would not even take an hour to reach Lake Erie, north of Cleveland. There is an area called Wade Circle where many of the museums are located, including the botanical gardens.
I don't know the trend in Philly, but our flower shows have morphed into Home & Garden shows, where the gardens have sunk into the background and what's left is a plethora of businesses vying to entice the attendees into using their products to improve our homes and empty our pocketbooks. Every kind of business from cable companies to window replacements has a hawker trying to get our attention. After the last one, I think I'll visit the local home and garden tours where we get to see actual family gardenscapes. Those ladies groups always know the best places to visit. So interesting to see how people have decorated their homes and laid out their flower beds.

I took a nap and got up only in time to boil some eggs so DH could have an egg salad sandwich and I could make a couple deviled eggs for myself before we were back on the road to church.

My DIL's uncle's visitation (calling hours) are this afternoon, and this evening I'm back to my friend's office to finish organizing. DH may be on his own for dinner. Sewing this afternoon until I have to leave.

Trip to Botanical Gardens for the orchid show has been postponed till next week. Friend is sick.

Pat, hope you enjoyed the sunshine. We started out with it, then a little bit of rain, then back to sunshine. Our temps are to be in the 60's this week which means I will be cold---LOL I had to turn up the heat as I just could not stay warm--and Dh was too warm.

I haven't seen a new folding phone...back to the old flip phone idea, eh?

Thank you for giving us your _Little Women_ review. Another person on SP was not impressed with having all the girls as grown ups in this script. Sooner or later it will be on TV. I'll wait.

The clouds have moved on...finally. We must have had 5 straight days of clouds. Such is life in the area under the Great Lakes. Terribly windy, though, so I'm not planning on an outside walk.

Pat, the one thing I don't like is the size---I think I would be one that would like the new Razr coming out that folds but sure that will be expensive and I would definitely wait until we see how it holds up. I miss being able to fit it into pockets. I just went thru some old purses and got rid of all that it would not fit in. I have no idea if it would connect to my car---I don't believe in answering my phone in the car anyhow and I have a Tomtom for traveling. But I might ask my son about it---but my car is a 2008 with only 65000 miles on it.
Susan, thank you for the review of Little Women. I haven't gone but did think that the cast was not well chosen from the previews I saw. Now I definitely won't waste my money on it. I like the old version the best with Kathryn Hepburn playing Jo---she was perfect for that role. I don't know if I have ever seen another version of it.
Making good progress in the spare room----need to do the floor and I think get rid of the toy box in here---my gd hasn't played with anything in that for several years. But somethings are hard to part with---LOL

I like to shop in person, too. I kinda like both, considering I'm a busy stay-at-home-home-schooling and baby-sitting-mom.
My husband and boys have packages coming to the door all the time. It's the new era, I guess.
I hate to see stores shutting down all the way, too.

Hubby's goal is to begin online, but get a store-front as he's established.

Today we went out to eat for steak, then went to view the new Little Women movie.
Little Women is an absolute favorite of mine and I've liked all the versions...except this one.
It was soooo poorly done. The choice of actors was pretty horrendous, the script was very badly done. I began dozing off two or three times! lol The editing was bad. None of the characters seemed real, although toward the end, a couple of them pulled some scenes off okay. And the director used flashbacks in an uncomfortable, confusing manner.
This is the one with Laura Dern as the mother, and Meryl Streep as the aunt. (Streep, though I'm not a fan of hers, did a pretty good job in that small role.) The actress who played Jo had the most potential.
lol, I'm just seeing that a couple of the actresses are up for awards. Sorry, there's NO way. (not to be rude.)

I think the script should have been written WAYYY better. Then the actresses might have been able to do a better job. But the male actors were all badly chosen.
I believe I own every Little Women movie, but I certainly won't be buying this one.

There are several versions though. Have any of you seen them?
My absolute favorite is the one that came out the year I was married- the one with Wynona Ryder. Susan Sarandan (sp?) did an EXCELLENT job of playing the mother in that one. I wasn't disappointed in the choices for any of the actors in that version. Very high quality.

Also, there is a MODERN version of Little Women that came out last year or the year before. I was surprised that they did very well in remaking it into a modern day story.

I bought my last phone merely because the narrower width allowed me to hold it easily. Those iPhone 6, 7, or 8's are too large. Have you learned how to sync the phone with your car (provided it is a new enough model to have phone settings) using the bluetooth feature?

I probably wouldn't understand the tutorial---LOL---but I do have a link for a tutorial just for my phone to go to . I did figure out how to get the keypad to show while on a phone call---you know how some calls you have to punch in a number or 2 to get where you want to get to. Then I showed Dh how to do that, too. The one thing I really don't like is the size---I miss my smaller pnone that fit in my pocket comfortably.

Sometimes stores like Home Depot or perhaps Best Buy have classes for devices. Check with your local store. Of course, there would surely be a You Tube video (or seven) that would serve as a tutorial for your new phone.

Susan, enjoy having the boys home even for a little while all together. Hope your Dh likes his new job and all goes well. Hope his business does okay. I am not a big proponent of shopping online---we are losing jobs too fast to online shopping---plus I like to see what I am buying.
Speaking of buying, I finally gave in and have gotten a smart phone---it is still smarter than I am---LOL---but I did figure out how to add a contact today!

Susan, It's amazing that all these discount stores are all continuing and making a profit, yet people still pay top dollar at other retailers. I rarely pay full price. I worked for O'Neil's department store (now Macy's) decades ago and was rather put out by their advertising. They made it seem as if they were having a percentage off sale for a limited time, when all they were doing was posting the items which had already been marked down and would stay at that reduced rate until sold.

Semper fi!

Lecates, by 'men's retail' I mean that he is setting up an online store that sells items that guys are more likely interested in. You can order things wholesale and sell them through your own site. He's really interested in fishing supplies and other outdoor things, mainly, but clothing, jackets could/would also be included.
He can also set up other businesses under the main one that can focus on other interests, like...for women, or say, home-schoolers. Oh boy, we could save people so much money on school supplies. After researching, we are AGHAST at how much profit stores are making off of us. Disgusting. There is no good reason to charge that much!

Meanwhile, he started a new job today. Just orientation, but it went well. Should be easier on his back and the insurance will be good to have, while fiddling with his other project!

OH! My newest Marine came home this weekend for a 10 day visit. It is SOOOO good to see him! Tomorrow the OTHER one comes home for a month-long visit. And the first Marine son is still in the area, so they will all be home together for a bit! They will have SOOOO much to talk about! haha!

Pat, he probably is deaf---LOL I used to yell at my mom to turn down the TV when I was a teen---I never have liked things loud---my mom never complained about my music being too loud. My mom had this thing to connect to her TV that she could wear headphones and either have the sound totally off or on for others to hear at a normal level---it made a difference for my sister who was living with her. We have it now but Dh rarely uses it---my sister used it sometimes and she said it was much clearer than on the TV---so it is a worthwhile buy.

Lecates, I insisted on the door that separates the living room from the front entry and hallway to the downstairs. DH had taken it and the folding door to the basement off during the first remodel. There was no way his TV could be on and I could get any peace even being upstairs. Even in the back bedroom with both doors shut, I have to say, "Turn it down please!" Or sometimes I just yell, "Are you deaf?"

I managed to get the major part of the dishes into the dishwasher last night, then hand washed the rest, having let them soak for a good bit. We talked until 10! DH was off to bed and I took some time alone before emptying the DW (dishwasher) and getting to bed around 1.

Susan, I am so jealous. I love being organized, but my problem is, if I put things where I can't see them, out of sight becomes out of mind. I don't think about things until I go searching for them. I did finally find all my weights and exercise paraphernalia in the hall closet when I needed to get out a bedspread (See "Bottle Weights" blog).

We had a couple over for dinner and, yes, pumpkin pie for dessert. We've known them for about 45 years. Sat around and reminisced for at least three more hours after we got up from the table. Good meal -- marinated pork tenderloin with cherry sauce, rosemary potatoes, fresh green beans almondine, corn muffins. She brought her ever popular no bake cookies. Mmmm.

Well, hold on to your seat...My craft room is close to being organized...that desk is almost CLEAR!
What was the firecracker under my bottom, you ask?
Well, hubby needed a corner to create an office space. He is creating his own men's retail business and just took his first step in applying for his state's license. Soooo, if he had a corner in the apartment connected to our house, that would be perfect.
That required us to move the hospital bed out, which created more room...for me, as well. He also took a washstand I had been using-just because it was there- which has plenty of storage in it. It had been crowding me. So we put that over in HIS corner and freed up a bunch of space in MY THREE CORNERS. haha That sounds like a tv show.
My Three Corners...The Decluttering of Susanski.

Then, also, in the next room over, in my genealogy room, my sister and I have been decluttering photo albums, creating more space in THERE, which means the stuff which had been in piles on my writing desk in My Three Corners has an organized place to go to.
It looks SUPER NICE in there now! I. am. so. excited! WE have a couple of floor lamps and a couple of desk lamps. It looks so cozy.
So the Craft room now has a craft supply corner, my writing desk corner, and my Card 'business' wall, and a wee corner for wrapping paper. With my rebounder and tv/dvd player next to those..., then Hubby's corner with printer, laptop and folding table that can quickly be taken down to go to flea markets.

Yea!!!! 2020 might just be the year I get it all together!

Yes, I take them down and put up a valance that has a village scene on it as the background for the top. It is quite the village --it takes 12 bins to hold it all.
I can't find the darn curtains---I am sure I put them in the spare room but sure can't find them now----grrrrrr---and the colors in the dining room are hard to find something to go with it.
I would love to have a piece of the pumpkin pie----LOL

You take your curtains down to put up your Christmas village? It must be quite the scene.

I don't think of what I serve as necessarily being fancy, but it's all in the presentation. Put something on a fancy platter with a garnish and guests feel special. I served chicken salad in lettuce cups on the good china. emoticon

I have some fresh rosemary left from a Hello Fresh meal, so I'll have rosemary potatoes with a pork loin, a green vegetable and maybe ambrosia. DH wants a pumpkin pie and has been asking for a couple weeks. I dare not make it yet, because he can finish one off in 24 hours. I've seen it done! And he doesn't gain an ounce. emoticon

Changed the sheets and finished ironing yesterday. Today I want to get the ornaments off the tree, but I enjoy my large wreath above the mantel so much, I think I'll leave it until after supper company on Tuesday. I was planning to make Lobster Newburg, but the wife is sensitive to dairy. So...

Well! Heard from my OTHER son on Sunday. He passed the Crucible, too! Yea!!!! So happy that he is meeting his goals. He began training with recruiters last year near this time. He had to lose 50 lbs before he could sign up. He met that and lost even MORE at Boot Camp. I'm so proud of him.
And soon both boys who are away, will be home at the same time for a visit before leaving for their first assignments.
Our 20 yr old her graduated boot camp in August, will be home for about 28 days starting in a couple weeks. And the new marine will be home for a shorter time, I believe just a few days before the other.
The 20 yr old will be stationed in Hawaii. Don't know about the 22 yr old yet. He should be doing weapons training next.
Then there's our oldest Marine, who is a reservist here in our state. All three will be home at same time! Can't wait to get a pic in their dress uniforms together!

I have a variety of rugs---but the colors are similar so they look fine together---go for something that has at least one color in the other rugs and you will have a winner. Hope your sons help him move that piece so he doesn't hurt himself.
Just one more day to work---then I need to get wrapping done and fudge made.

Yeah, I thought about it later and carefully pulled off all the tape and folded up the huge plastic bags in case I want to cover something big at a later time. Rolled up all the corrugated cardboard and removed the staples so it could be recycled or reused. Washed the floor where the delivery guys had walked, and arranged the room as best as I could, considering the old loveseat will go downstairs. I hope the boys will help their dad with that when they come next Wednesday. For now, it's a bit crowded. Now we have to find an 8 x 10 area rug that will coordinate with the hall and kitchen runners.

Then there is ham...just warming. Easy! I tend to like a prime rib since older son's girlfriend doesn't eat pork. Younger son's wife doesn't like shellfish. Such a group!

Just had a new chair and sofa delivered. Am waiting till DH comes home from his business trip tonight to unveil them. We can be delighted together.

At least they got used up. I did see that my red is almost gone and the green should probably be replaced, too. If I have my gd on Monday before Christmas, we will probably do sugar cookies together.

I used to have a lot of decorations for cookies until my DIL and her mom "borrowed" them last year for their baking marathon. Must have used them all.

I baked 3 kinds yesterday---and maybe will do one or 2 more today---but most will go to school with me next week. I baked sugar cookies for the little boy that came over---he was fascinated with all the different sugars I have. Then Monster cookies for my youngest son and then banana bread bites for my dh. I sent home a lot of cookies to my son.
I love baking and this time of year, it is easy to share them so I don' have all those extra calories for me to eat---LOL

Since we had other dessert, I opted not to bake the cake. None of us needs the calories, however good it may be.

Have fun baking. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I have begun waiting until company comes to bake only one kind of cookie -- the family favorite -- walnut sandwich cookies.

Pat, the nap sounds like a good idea. Lots of yummy food for his birthday dinner. Did you make that cake? I love lemon cake---my grandmother always made one for me for my birthday---she and I were the only ones who would eat it.
Cookie baking today so need to clean counter tops this morning in prep for making a mess on them---LOL

Can't say it's perfect, but everything in the crawl space was put in place and the floor swept emoticon this morning. The kitchen is in order and the dishwasher has been run. I started to make one of my luscious lemon cakes emoticon and realized we have plenty of key lime cheesecake from last night's dinner at friends. My son bought the spiral-sliced ham emoticon (in lieu of paying for a restaurant meal for DH's birthday), his wife made scalloped potatoes (white and sweet), the hosts provided bread and salad and DH went to Cheesecake Factory for the dessert. As late as we were eating, I opted not to make an appetizer. I'd been to the oral surgeon, then to a few stores, and was wiped out. I took a nap instead. emoticon

I have a lot of family pictures in the living room ---they all get packed away for the holidays and the Santa villages put there---then the pictures come back out afterwards---he can live with that.
Your dinner sounds very nice. That was a nice compliment by your dh.

His TV is downstairs and so big I see no problem with glare. No, the houses would be upstairs in the living room, but I'm not sure with where the tree is this year, I want to put them on the mantel. What I'd like to do is clear the bookshelves in the back bedroom and put them in there. It'd be a lot of work so I may nix that, too. My last idea is to put them on the glass shelves where the family (mostly his) pictures are. Maybe I'll do it when he's gone three days next week.

Had a good financial meeting today, then a cheeseburger (only ate half) at Flip Side, and a trip to Mom's where I decorated her room--even her walker--for Christmas. Back home rather late and made salmon with remoulade sauce, zucchini-cauliflower fritters (DH said they should be served in a restaurant) and fresh orange wedges.

Why doesn't he like it or is where it is at? Does it put a glare on his precious TV? Do you have a dining room hutch you could clear off for it? I have my main larger size village, 2 Santa vilages---one smaller than the other, and my middle son gave me a whole collection of another village smaller than the ones I have so that is on display, too. I am lucky that my Dh likes them all, too.

DIL asked if I was setting up my village on the mantel this year. DH doesn't much like it, so I may go a different direction.

I've been decorating the tree upstairs. I'm missing some accessories, probably because I didn't get to have a tree last year. We were in the midst of an almost-yearlong total gut kitchen remodel. I had a few things here and there just to get myself in the spirit, but right now the crawl space is in a major jumble. I'll have to sort through a lot to get to the Christmas stuff.
