New month, new chances, and my OCD is loving that the 1st is on a Monday! I have gotten my mile in today...no joke, I thought I was gonna die. I didn't but I had to use my inhaler as soon as I got in the house. I've almost got my gallon of water drunk...only 23oz to go!

Hi Ladies!! It's been a LONGGGG time!! A lot has changed...I moved to NC, started a new job, was at that job for 2 years, it stressed me out and I got super sick, gained back 45lbs from the stress, so I left and found a better job. I am ENGAGED! Josh and I have been together 2.5 years now. We own a small chicken farm. The kids are doing amazing...Chloe is ALMOST 15 years old now. She keeps me busy with color guard. She is in the Academy of Agriculture and the Academy of Natural Science. She is running for FFA President for the next school year, and also does Beta Club, Key Club, Poultry Judging, Horse Judging, Truck and Tractor, Creed, and has a 4.0 GPA. Noah just turned 13. He is in the Gifted classes, is part of the Battle of the Books team and plays trumpet in the middle school band. Eli is 11 and a half. He also takes Gifted classes, competes with Battle of the Books and plays the violin for the middle school orchestra. He has a little girlfriend too, lol. Gabriel & Amery are both finishing up 1st grade. Gabriel stays on the principal's list and Amery makes A-B Honor Roll. We are going to sign them up for soccer once this mess is over.
I'm starting over with my weight loss as it got out of control working with my previous company. I got depressed again and started having passing out spells. I got really sick and then they tried to write me up for missing work even with dr's notes and them telling me to stay home. So I quit. I refused to sign their write up, and I walked out. The new company I work for is their competition but the people here are amazing!! Then I found a new love...my CHICKENS, ducks, geese, and goats, and I also have 3 dogs and 2 cats.
I went out and bought myself a gallon water jug with the times and today is the start of a new day and I have already drank half of the jug. I have to start somewhere right???

Yesterday (Sat) I went & had socially distanced fun with my girlfriends. I soooooooooooo needed that time!!! It was amazing!!!
Today was ALL the work & ALL the sweat. Phew! Did a drive-thru car wash. I'm trying to clean all of the crap out of my car. Every time I drive somewhere & I get out at home, I bring something in the house with me & try to actually find a home for it! Easier said than done, but my car is NOT an extra room!!! Washed the dog. He stays mad about that, but this too shall pass. LOL! Then I got the son who helps wash the dog to start the lawn mower & I got about 1/2 of the lawn mowed. I probably needed more "real food" in my tummy before I attempted this but lesson learned. I showered, saw youngest son & got groceries. I am READY for bed!!! Of course I have to walk the dog one more time first!!!

I got on the scale yesterday & OMG I've gained 10 pounds. In NO time!!!
Obviously, I have to do "something". My plan is to double-down on the activity level starting with walking. I did a short walk yesterday with youngest son, but thanks to these extra 10#...I was huffing & puffing & wheezing by the end. This is NOT going to work for me. NOPE!!!

I'm pondering going to the gym on non-Zumba days & doing a mile now that the cold has kicked in. What do I need to do to be able to do that?

1. Gym bag packed & ready.
2. Dinner planned & ready for when I get home

So what would that look like?
Mon-Zumba
Tues-Gym
Wed-Zumba
Thurs-Gym
Fri-Gym every other week

Also want to start doing more YOGA. As in ANY! LOL!

I just want the top post on our page to have a more recent date, so I'm posting!!! LOL!
What are your weekend plans? Is staying "on track" easier for you during the week or on weekends when you might have more time to devote to it?

I have a MUCH easier time during the week. Just having the routine seems to help me.

What are your plans this weekend? I'm going to see Elvis Costello tonight & then working the part time job both days this weekend. I need to figure out what Sunday I want off this month because I can't work EVERY weekend all month. Next weekend I'm going to see friends in Roanoke & finally seeing Michael Franti. Life has been VERY good lately!!!

How are YOU???

Ok, so I don't feel so bad now. A lot of my nutrition is all over the board too, but I'm still trying. @MONIQUEDVA , I "just do it anyway", and the next day, I try to reduce the macro nutrients (excess fat & carbs mostly). And like @SYLVIEGIRL , I tend to park this Chunky Butt once I get home. But I'm trying to change that, a little at a time.

I'm horrible for playing on my tablet all evening, so I'm trying something new in my schedule: I do at least one but not more than 3 household chores before I open the tablet. I've also started a part-time gig as a Travel Consultant, and I can do that from home, but I'm having issues staying motivated. Both situations seem to be the same issue -- electronic games have taken over from TV shows, chores and the part-time gig. Tonight, I meet with the Franchise Partner at the Travel agency, and there's some stuff to do tonight, and that counts as 1 activity. I REALLY have to clean out the litter box, so that's #2. And finally, I have to water the indoor garden -- I'm horrible at remembering to do that. So that's 3, on top of pet feedings, Jojo feeding, making breakfast & lunch for work the next day and talking to Wifey at college. It's easy for me to feel overwhelmed, even at home.

oh look! Lunchtime, and it's not raining! Sneakers it is.

Jo

Hi everyone..

So today I am newly back to Sparkpeople.
I've been doing good the last year in terms of weight loss, but the last three months I've been stalled and still have a lot to lose yet. I definitely need to get better at moving more each day.. I go to work and the come home and relax, that's it. Also my food has been all over the place too, which doesn't help. I also need to keep drinking water - so.. there are my goals.
Fresh food eating, drinking more water and moving the 'ol tired body, lol.

Hope everyone is well, and happy to be back at it (though also urgh about it too, lol)

I'm making my grocery list Girlies bc in having a very productive day off. And I'm thinking about this board. This morning when I cleaned out my frig I threw away 2 bags of salad & 1/2 container of strawberries. Bad right??? Especially since 2 of the main posts on here are about fruits & veggies. So I definitely have to re-read my brain!

Are any of you going thru this now? What are your strategies? Do you do baby steps or jump right in? Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you "do it anyway"?

@JLDACQ I saw that on Facebook as well. I didn't know how many would still remember her. I'm really & truly very, very sad. Darlene was a special person & I will really miss her!!! Just one more reminder that life is short & needs to be LIVED very fully.

So if you're not living the life you want to live...figure out a way to get from here to there.
You VERY much deserve it!!!

All the love!

Good morning ladies,

It is with great regret that I inform you that @NANCYSINATRA (Darlene) has passed away yesterday. Her brother posted a message on her Facebook timelime.

Your fight is finally over, Darlene... rest in peace, knowing you have touched many in a very positive way.

I will miss you. I hope there is Hallowe'en every day, wherever you are.

Hey Girlies!!! First I want to say how happy I am that the board is getting more active. That always makes me happy! And I love that people come back here for love & support when they need that in their lives! So anyone have an update this week? @Amaolivia @Geauxsamgeaux @cocosmama???

I am travelling to KS again next week & I'm a little nervous bc they have snow & I don't really have to drive in the snow EVER. So wish me luck in that!!! So today is laundry & packing. I got myself a new suitcase that spins ALL the way around. AND most impressive...I got myself 2 new bras that actually FIT & put the girls where they belong! Wow--what a difference!!!

The hotel has a pool & a gym so I'm going to TRY to incorporate fitness into my days!!!

@MONIQUEDVA I wish I could say there was a specific plan but mostly just watching the intake and working out. I'm focused more this time on strength training in the early bits. I feel like I have to do something different this 'restart' and cardio never got me far. Thanks for asking.

As for weather, I won't complain. I'm in Texas so the weather is pretty awesome compared to the great white north you guys are experiencing.

@moniquedva I am in wisconsin, and ehh the midwest is the midwest LOL

I am doing the elder care. I actually have accepted another position with another company and I start next week. I will still be in HR doing the recruiting just on a larger scale. I am excited for the adventure. Also since the last time I was on here, I have become a licensed Foster Parent. I recently had a placement of 2 brothers, when the left they were 20 months and 3 1/2. It was amazing and I am currently waiting for the next placement!

@GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 ...you're in WISCO? Why did I think you were in Minnesota? And as long as I'm being nosey...are you still doing the Elder care stuff or did you go back to Clothing?
Our weather here is a little bi-polar as well. This week up into the 50s & 60s. I'm scared of what happens when it gets cold again!!!

Step by step (or baby steps as I like to call them!!!) is a GREAT idea!!!

@AMAOLIVIA sooooooooooooooooooooo good to see you post! You hit the Leaderboards for January...so I know you're ramping up!!! I can't wait to see you succeed again!!!

I am telling you the weather here has been crazy! we had a snow storm last monday, dumped 8 inches of snow, then we had the polar vortex that brought temps with wind child to -60, and this last weekend we had rain and temps in the 40's. Today it is almost 50 and tomorrow we have freezing rain and snow....oh winter in Wisconsin LOL. I am taking this new journey step by step and not making lots of changes at once. I have made lots of changes to my life in the last year which were all good ones, just need to take it step by step!!

How was everyone else's weekend?

I hope you ladies had a wonderful Christmas!! I certainly did...I got engaged to Josh! We have our date set, October 12th, 2019. I am resetting myself because I want to be a healthy, beautiful bride!! My kids had an amazing Christmas. My job surprised me and got my kids Christmas due to me being out of work with Gabriel. He had to have 2 more emergency surgeries last week due to an incident that happened at school. My dad helped me get a new, dependable vehicle that would see all of my babies and I GOT ENGAGED!!! I can't stop saying it! Here's to a Happy 2019!

Sorry to be gone so long. Taking on a new role has been killer but rewarding. I got on the scales at the doctors about 2 weeks ago and I did not like what I saw. I just reset my goals and I'm getting right back at it.

I hope you all are well and things are going great.

Hey girlies! So it has been a hot minute but I am back :) I am now a residen of North Carolina. I kicked Shawn to the curb August 2017...I have had 1 heck of a year. I am now with a great guy and we have been together a year on November 10th. I have battled depression, homelessness, being a single mom in the past year. I lost down to 232 last November but I have managed to put a lot of it back on. A couple of weeks ago, we ALMOST lost my sweet 6 year old, Gabriel. Gabriel has a stomach disease (Hirschsprungs Disease) and his large intestine completely stopped working and he was in the beginning stages of sepsis. I got a weird feeling to call an ambulance because his belly had swollen up and he spiked a fever. He ended up being rushed to Duke University by ambulance and we were told that if we hadn't taken him, the drs were giving him 12-24 hours to live. He ended up having to have 2 emergency surgeries and he is now the proud owner of an ileostomy. We got to stay at Duke or a week. We have a long road ahead of us and we are facing 3 more surgeries in the future. As of right now, he is back in school and hes doing great. His dad hasn't had too much to do with him or Amery since we split and he has no idea that this even happened.
The rest of my kiddos are doing great...only 1 is struggling just a little bit with school and my youngest is having an issue with being hyper is school.
I have been at my new job since May and I love it...the only downsize is that its 45 minutes away from the house. Other than that, its good.

How are you ladies doing??

@K-RAE82 & @AMAOLIVIA thank you both so much for your sweetness about my Grams. I need to get rear tires on my car before I truck down there to see her but I need to get that done soon & then start going down AT LEAST once a month. I miss her a LOT!!! I need to call her more but our schedules just don't mesh!!! OK enough whining!!!

So this weekend the weather was GORGEOUS!!! It went down to 75 for most of the weekend & the humidity was MINIMAL!!! I was soooooooooo happy to not be sweating & gross!!! Friday night I went to a concert. It was the 70s all over again! Foghat, .38 Special, Cheap Trick & Lynyrd Skynyrd.

OK Girlies...chime in! Tell us how your summer is going & how YOU are!!! Where are you on your journey? What's working? What isn't?

ALL. THE. LOVE!!!

@MONIQUEDVA Im so sorry to hear about your Grandma! I will be praying for you both. I totally understand your funk, Ive been over here for almost a year goofing off. Ive gained back a lot of weight. 2 weeks ago I went to a training for my students and They talked about commitments. We can commit to something like loosing weight and we occasionally get in the weeds off the path. As long as we realize that can happen and we get back to the path we can be okay. We can succeed. Ive been in the weeds a while and maybe I got lost in the forest for a bit. But I know how to lose weight and Ive been successful so I will get back on the path and I will be successful!

I ordered a salad last night instead of fries and I didnt eat the bun on my hamburger. Im heading out of the weeds and back to the path.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma @MONIQUEDVA that would be a big change and will take some time to get used too. Anyway that you could at least call her to get in some visits when you can't travel down?

I'm building the first flower box tomorrow with my parents. I'll post some pictures as soon as it's done. We've had a horrible and cold spring so it's only been nice for a couple weeks. We are behind in planting but I'll be done hopefully all at the end of the month.

Hey @K-RAE82 do you have pictures of your raised beds? One of my local girlfriends put in some really good looking beds. I'm totally jealous!!! I've already volunteered to take ANY extra tomatoes that she has. I also recently found out an old high school friend has eggs for sale. I LOVE fresh eggs & I am hoping that will give me more incentive to eat them as well. So I'm going to go get some eggs from her.

I've been in a funk for a bit. It came to a head last weekend when I drove down to see my Grams. I don't think I even REALIZED how bad the funk was. My Uncle & his wife moved my Grandmother down to the Outer Banks to be closer to them. On April 19th she had a fall & things have gone down quickly from there. She is in a nursing home type facility at this point & it is unknown as to whether if or when she will be released. For 30 years I have gone to my Grandma BOTH weekend days. So this is a really big change for me...but obviously a MUCH bigger change for her.

I have LOTS of fun old-school concerts lined up for the summer. I am also going to be doing car & hopefully house repairs. Let's all do quick updates so we know what's going on in each other's lives!!!

Hi everyone, spring has finally arrived in Alberta, Canada. It literally took until this week which was really long this year, but the sun is finally shining and most of the snow is gone. Time to finally get outside in the next week or so once it all dries up to finally get started on the yard. This year my Dad and husband are making me 4 raised garden boxes so we can finally have a full garden to have fresh veggies close at hand. I'm really looking forward to getting them set up and I think that is why this longer winter and awful spring was hard to handle I just want to get planting!
Have a happy Monday

Kelly

You're VERY welcome Jo!!! @JLDACQ We're in that LULL time of year & I wonder about this board. I try to keep posting & being active bc I think that will encourage others. But then my brain gets to thinking & over-analyzing & I wonder if people see all MY posts & think I'm just hogging everything for myself. Balance man...it's SO hard!!!

So I'm still in an exercise RUT. I think it has to do with the weather but then the over-analyzing kicks in yet again & tells me that is just an excuse. Tonight I can do Zumba or Yoga if the weather allows. We are supposed to turn from rain to snow sometime in the late afternoon. If snow really starts, me & my LITTLE car are heading HOME where it's safe & warm. If there's no snow, I'm thinking I might do yoga which I need for my tired wobbly body.

I still have the goal of de-cluttering the living room by May 5th. Holy crap I better get a move on!!!

Aw, thanks Mo!

Snow shovelling is not a skill -- it's a natural phenomenon that starts in the teens, and no one ever gets used to doing it. I'm to the point now that I can't use the snowblower either, aside from hurting my palm on the weekend trying to clear out the dooryard.

Speaking of shovelling, we have another storm blowing through here Wednesday night until sometime Friday.

I don't even know what my lawn looks like. :-P

So nice to see/hear from you Jo!!! @JLDACQ I'm missing @SYLVIEGIRL & hope she is doing well. Shoveling or snow blowing is not a skill I've ever had a reason to acquire. Now I just need to continue moving south & maybe west so I can give up buying coats also! emoticon

I'm doing some SERIOUS journaling & trying to figure some things out so I can get out of the RUT I've been stuck in & move forward. Wish me ALL the luck Girlies!!!

Hey Girlies,

I haven't fallen off the planet yet. ;-)

@MONIQUEDVA - this is Snowmaggedon #3 within 7 days for us. @SYLVIEGIRL said New Brunswick isn't being hit as hard. It depends on where in NB you live. Moncton & Saint John had almost nothing until last week. Meanwhile, the snow has reached the bottom sill of the bathroom window, and the city has effectively shut down for the 3rd day in a week. Winds are wicked, and there are many open spaces around the Saint John river, making driving a bad idea. So I am home today, sore muscles & all, waiting for the winds to back down so I can start snowblowing.

I need a nap after the first round of shovelling....

Jo

Ohhh PS,
my daughter got me a Fitbit Flex, it's 2nd hand so she'll be bringing it when she comes on Wednesday. It's like brand new, so I'm excited.. It was only 30$.
So I will start using it as soon as I get it - she found it and decided I had to have one.
I really had no clue about them much until this week, what a fascinating little piece of equipment..
hehehe

So sorry I didn't get in until now, it was my birthday on Wednesday so it's been a busy few days hehe...
Yes, i am originally from Canada. My honey is from Oregon, actually but moved east 4 years ago and I moved there at the same time so we could be together (in Virginia). But now we have a new granddaughter and we don't want to be away from her so we're moving back, but there is of course a process to go through before we do.. So we move in June across the border.. We are 3 hours away from them right now though which is far better than it was when we were in Virginia. They're coming to visit again on Wednesday, I can't wait! I grew up in New Brunswick which is the province at the border of Maine. The winter in Maine has been far worse than in New Brunswick. They have no snow and have gotten little snowfall compared to us here only 3 hours away. It's crazy LOL.

As for reading, I just finished a James Patterson book, Jack & Jill. Great book.
I need to get it back to the library and get the next in the series, unless Wonder is available. I'd love to read Wonder next. Anyone seen the movie ? I haven't yet, want to read the book first.

We have been watching the Olympics lots. I'd love to see The Greatest Showman, it looks like a fantastic movie, but we aren't big on going to the theater so we'll probably watch it on demand also. That is usually where we watch our movies, hahaha. The last movie I saw in the theater I think was Frozen, no lie hehe..

Happy Saturday all!! I am 4 lbs down when I weighed in yesterday, so excited!

Happy Friday Girlies. How IS everyone. I realize we are all in VERY different geographic areas, so while some of us might be waiting anxiously for Spring...others may be in the midst of Summer like @BARCLE . And others down south in the US may just have more mild weather in general like @GINGERKID86 & possibly even @AMAOLIVIA . I would guess most of you Canadian girls & the Maine-r & the MN gal are all still very much in the midst of what the rest of us call Winter!!! @GRANDMABEAST63 @JLDACQ @SYLVIEGIRL @GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 .

3 more weeks until my geographic region welcomes back Daylight Savings Time & I am SUPER excited!!! I leave work at 6 & can't wait to leave & it still be LIGHT outside. That way I can go walk the track at one of the local schools on non-Zumba nights.

What does everyone do for FUN? Are you reading any good books? I'm about to re-read the Wrinkle in Time series which was my absolute FAVORITE childhood book so I can see the movie. Has anyone seen The Greatest Showman? I totally want to see this movie in the theater but all the showtimes are after 9. Come on people...I work all day. a 9 pm movie will put me to SLEEP!!! What about 50 Shades Freed? I saw the first one but haven't seen the 2nd one yet. So that will probably wait until it's On Demand. I've re-watched the first season of Sherlock & have to say I did not remember a LOT of it. On to Season 2. Are you re-modeling your house? Or sprucing it up for Spring? Planting a garden? Or flowers? I have to get my lawn mower tuned up so ***I*** can mow my lawn & quit waiting for these rotten children of mine! LOL!

Talk to me Girlies!!!

I found it!!! Phew! I feel so much better now.

So lately at the local Marshall's...I keep seeing the types of Fitbits you can wear on your wrist for like $25. I've had my little Fitbit zip for 2 years now I think & I LOVE it. But for $25 I think I might go try one of the wrist trackers. And let it be said that now that I realize I want one...I won't be able to find one ANY where. LOL!!!

Hey Girlies...didn't SPARK used to have a weight loss calculator where you could play around with dates & weights & stuff? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

@SYLVIEGIRL we're so glad you decided to come back! Welcome!!! So first you moved to Maine & then the plan is to move north to Canada? Is one of you from Canada? I don't know if I could do a Canada winter. I could totally do Canada politics tho!!!

I'm doing ok. Busy, but ok. I have changed job locations, so I no longer have that really cool gym where I was the chairperson. Bummer, but I found other ways to work out, since I have an office -- with a DOOR!! OMG! I haven't had an office door in over 15 yrs of working for the government. DW has gone to Veterinary Assistant school, and in the fall, she returns for the Veterinary Technician course.

I'm still working on reducing some of the bloating I had from the hysterectomy. It's better, but it's not gone yet. I'm also being more mindful of what I'm eating, and trying to do better on the weekends. It's not uncommon to only have 2 meals on Saturday & Sunday, just because of how our weekends work out now.

@BARCLE I was sick, but at least I was home with my family so all good in my book!

My new gym opened and I finally got to go today! Lovely brand new equipment. Loved it!

Hopefully it is close enough that I can go some mornings before work. I just need to get myself in gear and stop goofing off in the am.

How are you ladies doing this year @JLDACQ @COCOSMOMMA @GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 @GINGERKID86 ?

@AMAOLIVIA - Happy 2018. Apologies for such a late reply. New Years BBQ was lovely - a nice time with friends, lots of chatting, laughing, some good food and a couple of drinks. It was a really lovely way to see the new year in.

How was your New Years?

I hope 2018 is a fantastic year for us all and has been a good one so far emoticon

@BARCLE That is my perfect temperature! I can understand it being hot if you aren't used to it though. I would love to BBQ for New Year's but this year is cold and wet. I have pictures of us in shorts last year playing at the park. Weather is so fickle!

I'm flirting with the idea of doing a 21 day hydration challenge because I haven't been drinking enough water of late. Would anyone like to join in on that?

The basic formula of how much water you need it as follows: (at least from what I can find online)
The formula for how much water you should be drinking:

Step 1: Take your weight (in lbs) and divide it by 2.2.

Step 2: Multiply that number by your age.

Step 3: Divide that sum by 28.3.

Step 4: Your total is how many ounces of water you should drink each day.

Divide that number by eight to see your result in cups.

According to this I need to drink 172 ounces of water a day. Probably not going to happen as I have to leave the bathroom to do things like live and work, but I wouldn't mind trying to at least get in 64 ounces a day.

An easier formula is to take your weight and multiply it by 67% and that is the number of ounces to drink a day.

Anyone up for that?

@AMAOLIVIA and everyone else a big hello!! Looking forward to 2018 and the changes it will bring.

For me it is summer and it is hot, hot, hot - not the hot some of you get but we are averaging around 25 degrees C.

New Years Eve plans are to go and bbq with some neighbouring friends and see in 2018

What are your plans folks?

Wishing us all a happy, healthy, and fantastic 2018

Okay not an easy holiday dinner...and we have left overs still! emoticon Save me from myself!

In good news I did get in some walking today and I am working toward getting in daily exercise not just the three days a week I have been doing.

How's it going for everyone? I know New Year's Eve/Day is coming up. We are predicted to get some terrible weather those days.

What plans do you have? @BARCLE @MONIQUEDVA @JLDACQ @GINGERKID86 @GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 @COCOSMOMMA And anyone else I skipped!

@MONIQUEDVA I'm hoping they have child care, but if not we will make arrangements. I would love to join the YMCA, but I can't afford it.

So ladies it's the countdown to Christmas and tons of Holiday FOOD! Do you have a plan?

For me we don't eat the traditional Christmas dinner and I really don't care for the meal we are fixing so hopefully I won't overeat. There are a lot of cookies I like but I was a bit sick after eating some this week so I am not so keen to eat them again.

Maybe this will be an easy holiday?

@AMAOLIVIA the new gym sounds like a dream...super convenient & brand new! Have FUN with that!!! Are kids allowed to go to or is it just you & Hubby at this point? A sort of mixed family is super awesome!!!

My Christmas shopping is at an all time record low. 4 days...and counting!!!

My MIL is currently in the hospital. I went to visit her last night & her blood sugar was 310.
310 Girlies!!! She's VERY bad with her eating habits. She doesn't exercise & she's an insulin dependent diabetic. Please Girlies...don't let this happen to you! Do everything you can via exercise & diet to keep your blood sugar at a nice normal level.

@MONIQUEDVA We are sort of a mixed family. We do Christmas and Hanukkah and when my son is old enough he can decide were he wants to worship. I think it is good to celebrate a lot of different customs so you can learn about the world.

How is everyone doing on Christmas shopping? I need to get some things done but this is the last week of school before break for me and I know its going to be crazy. We also have some fun things planned to do with my son so that adds more into our schedule.

On the plus side we are switching to a new gym that should open soon. We can basically walk to it from our house so I am super excited. It's brand new and I can't wait to try it out.

@AMAOLIVIA ...are you Jewish? LOL! Or are you just celebrating Hanukkah? I'm curious now!!!

Not only do I want EVERYONE to read the 100 reasons to lose weight list. LIke I said...I didn't agree with EVERY reason on it. Some things just don't apply in my life. Now that being said...it's still a GREAT list & might even inspire you to create one of your own. Maybe you don't have 100 reasons. But 3 or 5 or 10 is an AWESOME number too!!!

I also ran across this OTHER article today & it's a quick read, but it emphasizes several things to do despite the weather outside being "frightful" & it gives you the WHYs as well. Why to drink your water. Why to exercise. Why NOT to take too hot of a shower. You get the idea!!! www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,209

Thanksgiving was okay as we were at the in-laws and the food there is just okay. I did snack way too much, but I am mostly back on track now and trying to get off the 5 lbs I gained over the holidays. We are having a low-key Christmas and I will try to keep the fried food in check for Hanukkah.

Anyone have a goal to reach before the end of the year? Mine is to get these 5 lbs off and to drink my water each day!

Thanksgiving actually went REALLY well. I made a ham versus a turkey bc none of my kids particularly like turkey. I actually like turkey & will probably make another ham & a turkey breast for Christmas. Hehehehehe. Mom can be sneaky too!!!

I left work early on Thanksgiving Eve (yes, that's a thing!!!). I did my few errands. Then I went to Grams to start some precooking. I made the corn casserole, I boiled & cut up the sweet potatoes & I made the mac & cheese. Sounds simple but of course it all took time. My Grams has an evening caregiver & I also got to see Gram act like a darn FOOL with the caregiver. She was really & truly in rare form & it made me a little worried about Thanksgiving but luckily the behavior did NOT carry over to the next day!

I went over to Grams about 1 on Thanksgiving day & started cooking everything else. I got help where I needed it & my middle had made the pies! We ate about 530 & middle arrived about 6. Ya snooze...ya lose! LOL! He was told what time dinner would be & he had already eaten elsewhere so please don't feel bad for him. LOL!

Thank you ALL for asking!!! I really appreciate that! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hey Jo-- @JLDACQ I'm so glad the ZOLOFT is working for you & I sure hope the probiotic helps move things also! I am on Metformin for the Prediabetes & I'm supposed to take 2 per day. One keeps me fairly "regular" but when I start taking 2 per day (December 1st!!!) I will have the "Big D" for about a week. I'm just sooooooooooooooo looking forward to that! NOT! But I need to get myself regulated again...so I will do twice a day. Maybe that will actually help me LOSE some pounds in December! LOL!

Mo, sorry to hear you're not out of the woods yet. If it's any consolation, I still have 4 1/2 yrs to go before being "released". I'm rooting for you!

Probiotic -- well, after I started taking Zoloft, which, by the way is the cat's meow for me, I discovered my food wasn't being digested properly. A quick peek at poo and I could see way too much food bits. So the Doc put me on probiotics. I asked if Activia (Danone yogurt) would be enough, and she chuckled as she handed me the script. No, she said, because it takes so much of it for the body to be able to use it. I'm supposed to take them twice a day, but if I do that, I'll end up constipated! So it's one a day for now, and it's working pretty good.

How did Thanksgiving Dinner go??

Jo

Well, the Doc didn't release me & I go back in 6 months. Nothing "bad" or ominous...just my particular, unique path. I have a bone density scan the day after Christmas just to ensure everything looks ok with these old bones.

What is the probiotic going to DO or help with Jo? I'm just curious...

I'm cooking Thanksgiving tomorrow for the first time. It will be me, Grams, my 3 boys & several strays. LOL! I'm excited!!! I'll try to remember to take pictures so I have a photo documentation of my work! LOL! 279 by 12-1!!!

@MONIQUEDVA - you've got this. You have a lot of resilience, and regardless of the news, you will be ok.

Wifey *loves* pet school. She tells me often how happy she is for this opportunity, and she & Mom are getting along well. She just left school and is on her way home now.

I've started taking a probiotic on my doc's advice. It's starting to help, but I figure it'll take another couple weeks to kick in.

@GINGERKID86 I sure hope you got your antibiotics & are feeling better SOON!!! I don't like to hear that any of my friends are feeling bad!

@JLDACQ that is very nice of your Mom! I'm glad that's working out for your family. Is the wife enjoying school so far?

I have a really busy weekend coming up & I am off from the part time job ALL weekend so that's exciting!!! But of course I have a TON to do & I have my fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. Seeing the cancer doc tomorrow. Several friends of mine who were diagnosed around the same time I was (my dx date is 12-17-09) have been "released" from their Oncologists, but so far, I have not. So I am wondering what tomorrow holds. I stopped taking one of my meds & I feel 1000% better. I'm not sure how that conversation is going to go, but it is definitely going to be had. One of my oldest son's friends gets married on Saturday. I'm not ready for this!!!

Hey @MONIQUEDVA -- Wifey isn't living in a dorm, my Mom offered to put her up during her studies on weekdays. We're still giving her some money for helping us out, which is making things a little more affordable.

I'm doing ok. Got some yard work done on the long weekend, which felt really good.

@MONIQUEDVA Hey! I have been sick with severe sinus infection. Sorry I have not been on lately. I still feel terrible. I just went to the doctor yesterday. They were supposed to call me in some antibiotics but I think they forgot. I will have to call them today! Boo! On a good note I am drinking crazy amounts of water!

Hey Jo-- @JLDACQ ...how is school going for the wife? And she's in a program where she has to live ON CAMPUS??? How long is this program for? So you have to pay for a dorm as well? I've never heard of actual ADULTS having to live in a dorm. That's wild!!!

This Saturday night I am going to see Black Jacket Symphony do Led Zeppelin so that should be interesting. I"m missing check ins form the Girlies...let's see how many can check in over the weekend! @COCOSMOMMA @GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 @AMAOLIVIA @GINGERKID86 @VICKYMARIEC @SANDY1969 @BARCLE

Hey Girlies,

I wrote a bit about our Mt. Rushmore et al trip in the "One Thing New About You" thread. It was a blast, and definitely not enough time! The one thing that seems to happen often during vacations is getting dehydrated. There was plenty of water in the car while on the road, but I just wasn't that thirsty. It's only this week now that I find I'm finally feeling like I have almost enough water in me every day. Oh... and Wall Drug. That's a definite stop before the Dead Presidents. :)

I'm still with gummint, but now working for another department. With department names being revamped and shredded and rebranded, I'm now working for the department of Social Development. Its equivalent would be Family & Community Services, or Provincial Income Assistance, or Provincial Housing Assistance. I'm with the Housing group, doing user support on a system that's being rolled out in phases. So far, I haven't done much user support in the 2 weeks I've been here, but I have been creating documentation for the end users. It's a LOT slower, more relaxed than the last job. The only 2 things I don't like about it are parking (I leave much earlier than I should need to, only to get a parking spot) and that there's no gym in this building. I need to confirm that last one, though... I really don't want to go to Good Life. So far, I've been getting outside for walks when it's feasible, and other days, it's WATP in my office. Hey, I have a real door, I can close it and do my thing. :)

Next Monday, My Wife starts college in the Veterinary Assistant program. She is SO excited, and even though the school is 2 hrs away, she'll be home on the weekends. It's a good thing we have a good home phone plan and good internet, so we can talk when we need to... or just want to.

This menopause thing takes different turns every month, it seems. So while I no longer feel my food being digested from stomach to large intestine, now I'm battling runny poo. Not the runs, but it's like I'm not eating enough fiber. I've done a little research, and there are simple foods I can add and others to remove to help make it better. One suggestion was to eat plain white rice. Nope, can't do it. But I will eat the banana, and maybe enjoy some Shreddies without milk. This week is the banana test, to see if one banana in the morning will be enough, and I'm backing down on some of the fattier foods, like chips (ok, that's The Wife's fault... I got off chips years ago!), chocolate bars and fatty meats (I don't need rib eye steak 3 times a week, really, I don't.) And as for losing weight right now? Nope. Hormones don't have a clue what's going on now that there's no estrogen. I haven't given up hope, though.... there is a solution.

@GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 where are you at woman? Yes, I know that's horrible grammar. I was being clever. Are you meal planning or prepping? Did you go back on VLCD? Are you keto? Have you been on any walks? Have you hit the gym? How's the new job? I know it's not really NEW anymore. The service that takes care of my Gram had a woman come out on Monday who never had my Grams get DRESSED on Monday. She also didn't make her take her meds. So yeah...we were pretty much LIVID. I know you manage your people better than that!!!

@AMAOLIVIA ...you made me cry when you said it felt like I was talking to you. I'm talking to ALL of us Girl!!! I'm so glad that what I said resonated with you tho. We all could use more positivity in our lives. If you're a reader, Brene Brown has some amazing books. She also has done a few TED talks. TED talks are amazing in & of themselves almost ANY of them. They are great on the treadmill...or if you listen to podcasts while you are run-walking.

@MONIQUEDVA It's like you were speaking to me! I have been trying to work on positive thoughts and it does help, but I need to really step up my game. Maybe we need to all post something positive about ourselves each day? I know when I work out and I am working on jogging I say all kinds of positive things to myself to keep myself going just a little but further before I walk again. It really helps!

@GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 So good to see you here again! I missed you!

@GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 aren't we ALL our own worst enemy? At least to some extent? We also have to learn to be our own best friends. It is in that spirit of self love that we find the strength & tenacity to do what needs to be done. We do not eat well & exercise as punishments. They are their own type of REWARDS if you will. But in order to think in this way, we have to recognize that we are worthy of love & especially love from ourselves.

Put notes on your mirror. You can write them with dry erase markers or you can write them on sticky-notes which are easily changed. Write "I AM WORTHY OF LOVE & RESPECT" on one. On another one write "I AM BEAUTIFUL". On another one write "I AM GETTING STRONGER EVERY DAY!". And for one more write "I AM ENOUGH". Stick these to your mirror, your front door, your FRIG door, and maybe even the visor in your car or your steering wheel. And every single day when you see them, SAY IT OUT LOUD. Say it will me. I AM ENOUGH!

Chart your successes! How many of us can recite every single freaking failure we have ever had in life???? Like since age 3?! But to ask us what we do well or what we are good at or where our successes are & we stand there mouth agape like we have NO IDEA how to answer. Write them down. Take selfies. Journal about your SUCCESSES. You have them. I have them. We ALL have them. You cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 27 people. That's a success. You got a promotion at work. That's a success. You negotiated a new contract with a supplier. That's a success. You did 2 workouts in one week. That's a success. You walked your first 5K. That's a success. You meal planned for a day & did NOT go off course. That's a success. Success does not have to mean a new Mercedes in the driveway of your 17 million dollar house or the Person of your Dreams swooping in on a white horse. Success is the million small steps that add up to your BIG goals.

@MONIQUEDVA I am my own worst enemy. I get in my own way. But I know I can do it. I just need to keep repeating to myself that I can do it. Mo you are here sharing and caring and being there for us, that is the best support!!!

@GEAUXSAMGEAUX16 Sam...thank you so much for saying so. I don't feel like I've done anything exciting or special but I am DEFINITELY in your corner!!! So...how can I help more? What are you currently doing? What's working? What isn't?

Same for the rest of you...what's working & what isn't?

A girlfriend of mine from work just went on THE most amazing place to a place here in VA called McAfee Knob. I totally want to go there. VERY motivational. But it's an 8 mile hike. 8 MILES. Holy crap. Time to rent an ATV. LOL! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
