The job they had for me in an office position was filled by another temp agency. I applied on Wednesday and they needed someone on Monday. The temp agency put me at Mattel. I am on my feel ALL day long and we don't have A/C.

The people that work there all have terrible language. I feel like I am in high school again only now they don't care if they swear in front of the supervisor. Most of the supervisors only speak Spanish. I can understand it as long as they speak slowly, but when I ask for translation, they get irritated. There are 3 of 4 other people that don't speak or understand it but they didn't speak up. What happens if the job required a certain technique and they didn't understand. They could get hurt or fired for not doing it right.

When I get really fast at what is asked of me, I get moved and then when I master that job, I get moved again. Yesterday, I was doing the work of 3 people (only because it was needed to be done) and the super yelled at me to only do what I was told. The line was almost brought to a stop since no one was making the boxes or putting labels on them. I asked the line leader if I could help since no one was doing it and the rest of the people were either making the displays or putting the product in the display. Once I got the "Okay" I was able to get the line moving again in less than 10 minutes.

I asked why the other supervisor was being so unreasonable and found out that he may be getting fired. I didn't want to ruffle his feathers by reporting him for being rude and demeaning to me. It's a stressful job, and I understand when people don't do what they are asked to do it's irritating. They didn't have enough people at the end of the line and the job that I was doing had opportunities to help keep the line moving by multi-tasking.

They won't assign me as a line leader because I am not bi-lingual. I am trying to listen to their conversations and pick up as much as I can. I ask what certain words mean since I took Spanish in high school (a very long time ago) and I don't remember as much as I should. I am thinking in Spanish by the end of the day, so that's a start!

Have a safe weekend. Be careful if you go anywhere on Monday if you live in the US. There will be many drunk drivers. (most of which work at Mattel!) emoticon

Hello all,

I finally got my mom and dad's house up for sale. Well not their house anymore, but you know what I mean. We worked so hard and we shall see if all that hard work pays off. Hope it sells quick, I am so done. Two of the realtor's that came in saw it a mess and saw it after, they couldn't believe the transformation.

It is an old house and has some issues, but I am compensating for that in the list price.

Hope you all are doing well, has been pretty quiet around here. Thought I would say "Hi".

Ministry is going well, we worked a territory Saturday and my daughter got 3 refusals right in a row and I got two, not in a row. Most of the residents in this subdivision went to the Presbyterian Church so that explains it. I don't recall a time when we have gotten that many refusals in one day. Oh well, we pressed on and got the tract to as many as possible.

Have a great week!

I do agree with first impressions count. You dont get a second chance to make a first impression. When employment is an issue.....impressions do count. If you want a specific job you have to dress to impress.
Thats one thing the world can say about our brothers and sisters. We come to their doors and they know who we are by our dress and behavior. We are never mixed up with other religious orders or bill collectors etc.

Attitude and attire are a huge aspect in getting keeping and advancing in the work place. When my worldly sister lived hear she landed a job with Lowes Home Improvement Store. She was hired as a cashier but had the qualifications to be a head cashier and was told they would need her to fill the position in 3-6 months. When that time came she was not promoted unless being put in a room to count money without a raise was a promotion. She was very upset and said they gave no reason why she didn't get that job. I told her (and I was blunt but not cruel) that she didn't look the part. She asked what I meant and I told her she looked like she just rolled out of bed with her pajamas still on! Sweatshirt, jeans, hair drawn back, and no make up. Her reply to me was "I work in a warehouse," I said "no,you deal with the public and you will be asked to do that more so as head cashier, so you would represent Lowes in a higher capacity," Your demeanor means everything to a corporation that deals with the public. She understood what I was saying but didn't care, she doesn't work for Lowes anymore and has had at least a half a dozen employers since! She's 42 I would think by now she would get it.

Congratulations on the new job Cinamin. My daughter was one of two out of about 30 people they hired at Kohl's because of her attire. She dressed like she would go to the meeting also. She got her physical therapy job over the phone. That is how they hire for those positions. Phone interviews...don't get that one, but what do I know about the job market these days. They called her back in two hours and said she got the job. Our young ones know how to communicate so well.

Have a great weekend everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Well done Cinimin on going out and getting a job and knowing how to dress for success.
In SA once you hit 35 its REALLY tough getting any job if you have been out of the work force for some years. You generally have to create your own niche. We have an extremely high rate of unemployment. Sad but true.

At least I am feeling muuuuch better. Still pretty wheezy and chesty, but at least Im up and about against and seeing the light at the end of my health tunnel.

Congrats on the job prospect Cina-Mini. My son works at a Shopko store and he heard that an opening in the optical department was open, so he applied at 9 pm at their kiosk. The next morning at 7 am they called and asked if he could interview at 9 am, so put on his suite and when he arrived they just told him he got the position. Granted he did work in the store already and they knew him and his work ethic, there is something that lends to getting a job being dressed appropriately, professionals can also tell whether your dress reflects your personality. They can tell the difference between someone who dresses for show and someone who is in their comfort zone being dressed up.

I have to get a "real job" so I went to a staffing agency. I tried going in last week but they informed me that everything is done online. I called Costco, Sam's Lowe's, Home Depot and Staples. They ALL said that everything is done online too.

I signed up for all of them and the staffing agency is the only one that called. I went in today and I wore what I would wear to the meeting. Out of 35 people, I was the only one that has a job prospect for tomorrow with the option of becoming permanent and full time. The hours are not ideal, but money is money and it won't interfere with any meetings or the Ministry.

I was amazed that no one else wore appropriate clothing. Most were in jeans and tennis shoes with t-shirts with logos on it!

We have thunderstorms right now. My favorite weather! Lightening and the whole works! As long as no one gets hurt, I love watching the storms. Along with the rain, it brought nice cool temps too!

Ginna, How great that you were able to share our wonderful hope with him. I hope the house sells quickly with a fresh coat of paint!

Hello to everyone else. Have a great day!

Hello everyone, sorry to hear you are not feeling well Celest. My daughter has been sick for a week. She can't seem to shake it.

When I first started attending meetings I wore pant suits that were very dressy and after about 3 or 4 meetings I asked why the women didn't wear pants? After receiving the answer I never wore pants again. We have studies that attend the meetings in blue jeans at first, then eventually their heart starts to be more complete toward Jehovah they make the changes. As far as the daughter, that is a tough one being that she is not a study. I like Kims-Snooky answer. Hope it works out.

That is so touching about the 90 year old sister pioneering, warms the heart for sure.

I hired a friend of the family to paint some rooms at my mom and dad's home and his mother died about 3 years ago (she was my sister in law). I got to give him a witness and was able to share how Jehovah is going to do away with death in the near future. I explained about the Paradise and how we were created to be on the earth. You should have seen his eyes light up. He said it made so much sense. He called while I was out of town this weekend. He had finished all the painting on Wednesday, so I am hoping he is calling with some more questions. Wouldn't that be nice!

Cinamin, sorry about the heat. Glad relief is coming.

Take care everyone,

Ginna

A simple explanation I like is: If you were invited to a meal with your countries leader, how would you be expected to dress? Doesn't the Creator of the Universe command as much if not more respect?
We must remember we all have a choice to make the truth our own. Jehovah doesn't force us to serve him. The important thing is that the daughter view the examples of true worship that will help her to choose which path she wants. Her own or Jehovah's

I must admit that I have not found anything specific in my research either. My study has chosen to buy some dresses, but would like to explain it to her daughter who is in a church. I'll keep looking till I find something that will help her explain it to her daughter.

There is a couple older ladies that are studies who usually where slacks to the meeting. No one has ever made it a big deal, it is something eventually that their conscience will ask about as they develop more of a Bible trained conscience. While I was studying I had a full beard, until I went to my first assembly and asked why none of the brothers had beards, what was explained to me was enough for me to make a conscience decision to cut it off the very next day. Don't miss it either!

Celeste - I wonder if there is anything in the brochure we received a few years ago on what to wear when visiting Bethel?

I think maybe the reason you don't see dresses specifically is because appropriate dress changes depending on where you live in the world. For example, when I was in the Phillipines, brothers didn't wear suits when giving talks on the platform, they wore a dress shirt specific to the area.

Sorry, I'm not much help. emoticon

Its a virus here too. Axels been sneezing for a few days and had a hoarse throat for the past two days...we spent every day together so I guess it was just a matter of time before someone else got it.

I have a question :
My study has decided to finally buy some dressed to wear to the meeting. Her daughter asked why she cant wear her slacks since they are boutique style and very decent? Having grown up in the truth, its not something I ever questioned. I did some research to answer her, but only come up with "modest and well arranged dress" (which a slacks suit can be) and "Styles that blatantly and deliberately feminize men or masculinize women are definitely out of order" (which again, her slacks suits are not masculine)
What I thought of saying is that Jesus always said "it is written" therefore recommending that we look into what was written for our benefit. If we look at any of the literature provided by the FDS then we will see sisters in skirts or dresses. BUT does that really answer her daughters question...I dont think so.
So...back to is there anything that anyone knows as to why slacks suits, even feminine ones, are not worn to meetings?

Celeste, So sorry to hear that! Is it from the change in weather? Many people in our cong have been passing around a sore throat, runny nose thing. Our family was hit 3 times. It was a virus, so no antibiotics. Just lots of hot soup and hot tea with honey. I hope you are able to get your voice back soon.

We have the heat again. It was over 100 degrees yesterday. We are trying to conserve money so we are doing our best not to run the air conditioning. I was doing well while I was sitting at my desk with a fan on me. Once I moved around just a little bit, I had to give in and turn the air on. I get SO miserable in the heat.

We went swimming last night to try and cool off. I turned the air off at 8 pm after the sun went down and opened the windows. When I came back inside, it was worse so I had to shut the windows and turn the air on again. At 1 am, it was still over 80 degrees!

We are supposed to be cooler next week! Yay for that!

Yes, re: pins.

Good job on the 8 lbs. so far! Great to hear of your son's success!

Went to a local quilt show this morning...and also got to see the farmer's market here for the first time! What a lot of beautiful produce!!!! Seemed like I walked a lot, but still don't have even 3000 steps.

Hope everyone is having a good day! emoticon

After a couple weeks of 12 hr days I am finally on vacation and am looking forward to getting out in the territory for the campaign with my family! My youngest son has already reached his 30 hour requirement! Last month he wasn't pioneering but was out 47 hours, I have been counting those calories and doing a pretty good job sticking with it and have lost 8 lbs since starting a week ago! emoticon So, were any wearing JW,org pins at your RC's?

I almost cried at the meeting during announcements. An elderly sister who hasn't fully recovered from a stroke she had several months ago was announced as pioneering this month. I was very touched. She is bent over and walks slowly with the aid of a walker. She even said she felt she'd lived too long in a comment at the Watchtower last Sunday. What a testimate to her faith and reliance on Jehovah.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!! emoticon

What a scare Asta....anything going wrong with cars on an interstate is scary. I remember when my ball joint broke. My nose just dropped at the front. Luckily I was turning a corner and not going fast or it could have been a lot worse. (long time ago)

Hi Everyone!

Enjoying August. So good to read that many are pioneering this month, or spending extra time in the ministry. I was able to pioneer and am having a great time. My first time with the cart on Saturday afternoon. Jehovah blessed us with nice weather, not too hot and a nice breeze. Our congregation has had a good turnout with many auxilary pioneers for the special campaign. Several signed up late, no matter, the more the merrier. It's nice to see how excited everyone is to distribute the new tract. One sister met a man during early morning witnessing and he told her, "I already have one and have been to the web site!"

Ginna - Sorry you are dealing with the emotions of selling your parents home. That must be difficult. So glad we have the resurrection hope.

Cinamin - How exciting about your KH project. I was involved in ours about 10 years ago. It's a lot of work but so wonderful when it's done. It really pulls a congregation closer. Great news about your son going to pioneer school. some of our pioneers are getting ready to go. They received assignments ahead of time to prepare. It will be interesting to hear some of their experiences with the new format.

Bookwerme - Wow! Sounds like Jehovah really protected you with the tires, that could have been a really serious situation. Glad you are okay!

Kims-snooky - Wasn't the RC amazing! The best one yet! Hope you are able to shake off the illness and make a full recovery.

Big hello to everyone else! emoticon

Have a great day and lovely week!

Wow, cleaned our at my mom and dad's today to get ready to put the house up for sale. It took me 7 hours and I am still not quite finished. My back is killing me!

We are at the tail end and I should have it listed by Tuesday or Wednesday. Kind of bittersweet though. I know they have been gone for a year for my mom and dad 8 months, but it just seems weird to be selling the house they lived in for so long. But at the same time me and my sister can finally have that stress be gone and move on.

Asta that was a scary ordeal for you, glad you are both safe and sound. Way to go on pioneering. My husband was able to, so I decided to support him. It is not possible for both of us to, so I will wait for Sept. when our CO visits.

Hi Cinamin, that is so exciting for Jacob to be attending pioneer school. It warms my heart!

Hello to everyone else, have a great rest of your weekend. emoticon

Asta, I am glad you are safe. That could have been very bad.

Years ago, my Mom was going to have a heart valve replaced. I went back home (Michigan) for it since it was a serious operation. On our way to get my sister, it sounded like I had run over a soda can and then the van started pulling to the left really hard. Thankfully, I was able to get over. As I was trying to locate the spare (not my vehicle) someone pulled up behind me. He had air tools in his truck and replaced the tire for me. I offered him money and he wouldn't take it. It turns out that he sells and changes tires on big rigs. I offered to buy a tire from him and he said that he only does wholesale. I was so thankful that I didn't have to change the tire and he had all the tools needed.

Jacob has Pioneer school in 2 weeks. He has had his book for a month. A lot of studying is needed. Even though the book isn't that big, it has a lot of information and he has a lot of the Proclaimers book to read through.

Welcome back Don! So good to hear that your whole family is pioneering. The RC was fantastic! Congrats to your son for completing Pioneer school and spreading the desire to Pioneer in your family.

Welcome Back to those returning from time away from here. I have been on SP for years and for a long time, kept bouncing up and down on the weight...now it is staying steady...but for a very long time between short drops of pounds. I am ok with that...so long as it keeps heading down. SLOW going, but it IS going.

Turned in our applications to aux. pio....for both of us. I already have some obstacles to the schedule we planned, but we will try to work around that. I thought we weren't going to get out in the ministry today...we were in DH's work van yesterday and had tire troubles on the interstate...he pulled over and got out to look...front left tire had a HUGE blister...which promptly popped! Amazingly, the tire still held air so we decided to try to get off the interstate...next exit (where we were going anyway) was close. We made it all the way to our daughter's house. Went to change the tire and discovered that the spare (one of those donut tires) had NO air. AAA to the rescue..but since we needed something special (an air compressor) it took an hr and a half for them to come! Hubby said we were going first thing this morning to get the tired replaced...but changed his mind and we will do it tomorrow (probably in the rain!) and run our errands...not done yesterday...in the morning. Thus, we are on schedule for our field service hrs. I am SO grateful to Jehovah that the tire didn't explode while we were traveling to/from the convention...and didn't explode while we were moving on the interstate yesterday...it could have been disaster. Plus, we had a comfortable (air conditioned) place to wait. I am hoping we won't have any more car/van drama for a while now. First the one van..stalling...then the other...tires.

Hi everyone! It's been a while. It is coming up on 3 years since I joined SP! I weigh the same as I did then. I am getting over a respiratory illness, Severe Bronchitis/Walking Pneumonia which has been hard to shake even after two weeks of being treated for pneumonia. I've had to work several 12 hour days throughout this as well which doesn't help. That being said, it is a reality check for me! I realized I need to use these resources and encouragement here to get back on track.
Spiritually it has been a wonderful year and summer! Our RC was the first week, so it has been hard to keep quiet about it! My oldest boy had his pioneer school and has really inspired my youngest son (16) who has auxiliary pioneered 4 times this year so far. The whole family is aux. pio. this month. I took a week off the 18th-23rd from work due to the 12 hr days wasn't sure I could make 30 without doing that.

Kim and I plan on being active here again and re-kindle some of the friendships we had!

1:00 pm CST Bedtime!

It sounds like even if some aren't Pioneering, we all still have the Pioneer spirit! It's contagious for sure! I can't Pioneer, but I am going to increase my hours.

We have our Kingdom Hall project still going on. We haven't even laid the foundation yet. Jacob has been doing security on Wednesday night from 6 pm straight through to 6 am Thursday morning. He stayed up until 4 am on Tuesday night getting work done for the business and then his friend from another cong woke him up at 8 am. Jacob came home from security this morning and when he went to bed, he said not to bother him until tomorrow (Friday). Poor guy!

Thomas started school on Monday. He has two teachers and so far, so good. I think it will be good for him to have male teachers. The ring leader of the bullies from third grade is in a different class. What a relief!

Our weather has finally cooled off. We were so hot that I couldn't turn the A/C off for almost a month. We have been down in the lower 60's at night and even though we are in the middle 90's during the day, we don't have the humidity so it cools off as soon as the sun goes down. I am really looking forward to the cold!

On Sunday while at the meeting, there was a flash flood watch/warning in effect. Everyone's phone was going off during the meeting. We had a severe downpour including hail, thunder and lightening. I love watching storms so it was really hard for me to concentrate on the meeting. All I could think about was watching the rain. lol

We are supposed to get the same unstable weather on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Since we are in a drought, all the rain we can get helps, but having it steady instead of all at once is better. The pilot went out on the hot water heater. I didn't notice it until Monday afternoon. Thankfully, I know how to light it!

Have a great day everyone!

Hello to everyone!

Hope it is going well for all that are pioneering this month. I was not able to do so. I feel bad because most of our congregation is, but my circumstances won't allow me to do it this month. Hopefully in Sept. when our CO is at our congregation.

Celest, when I was little I went to church, didn't learn a thing. Our young ones sure are blessed to be able to have that knowledge at such a young age. It warms my heart to hear the little ones comment at the meetings. Last night at our meeting a little boy answered and spoke very loudly into the mike, he had us all laughing.

Have a great rest of the week!

I'm in the same position Asta....hating not pioneering this month, but I have a nephew in hospital, my fs partner away on tragic family business and still care for Axel. I feel a bit overwhelmed for pioneering, but will try to increase my activity as best I can.

I must say that looking at all the happy, smiling faces on the fb page been opened for them is such a delight. From old to young....all working side by side serving Jehovah.

There is a church on the same block as our kingdom hall, and I was saying to my mom that on my way to the meeting that our children sit with us in meetings, theirs are sent out to play. Our children join us in the "search and rescue" of Jehovahs sheep, even tots in pushchairs. It truly is beautiful sight and must make Jehovahs heart soooo happy, it sure does mine.

I will NOT run emotionally from compliments and hide in fat layers for protection.

Our cong. was at the convention this last weekend (we went several weeks ago so we could manage the farm and animals while family was at RC). We went out with another couple Saturday...but ended up doing three Karen language (Kayin on the website) studies. I had dressed for walking! Today we did an entire territory....a very nice feeling of accomplishment. Got my walking in today!!

Happy to hear of those who can pioneer this month. GOOD GOING! I have some conflicts so still not sure whether I will manage it or not.

Day 1 of pioneering went very well. I feel very proud being able to pioneer this month. It is truly a privilege I relish and will treasure. I'm so proud to bear and tell others about Jehovah. Awesome August is on!!!!

We have all been waiting for this wonderful tract distribution this month....to tell the world about JW.Org! For some of us, that will mean lots of walking so it will have health benefits for us, too.

Whatever the case, we can all try a little harder to become at least a little healthier! August is HERE! Let's GO!!!
