Happy
Anniversary to AJCharters. I don't think she has visited SP in quite a while..and she may have left our team as well. BUT, I have the date in my book, so thought I would extend the greetings! emoticon Best wishes, Amanda!

Sadly, I wasnt. It turns out that the schools here are chock-o-block and the cut off entrance dates are end of May. She didnt come to me soon enough. We have the grade r to grade 2 in one school and then another school for the next 4 yrs before high school. She now has to wait till the child reaches the next level....unless someone moves town and a place becomes available. At least her name is on the list and at least, difficult as it is, she is getting an education. Thats the sad reality of people who are misplaced...not understanding the language and the laws.

This morning I have an appointment with a local school. My studies mom is Congolese and she doesnt understand English too well, and the school doesnt understand her accent too well....I struggle too, believe me. But this poor woman has 3 children all in different schools around town because she cannot get them into the one closest. There must be something that can be done. Her daughters are waaaay above average intelligence and speak 4 languages fluently. I cant see the school not wanting such "talent". Even if they are pretty full, there must be some kind of law governing zoning. This woman has a newborn, no car, and walks all around town trying to get her daughters and son to school safely. Heavy schedule especially has her husband works out the country. I'll see what I can find out.

Just about every Wed is that because we do all day field service and it includes 2 studies out in the farming area and ends with a meeting in the evening. Tiring, but a wonderful kind of tired.
Tomorrow, my study is bringing her best friend to sit in on her study....cant wait to see how that goes. Ironically enough, the young womans fiance took 2 mags this morning from a bro doing fs in their area and she says he was half way through the one mag. This from a guy who said he is NOT into religion. So, maybe Jehovah is calling him too.

Today, on a farm in the middle of almost nowhere, we got a flat tire. Worst was, the hatch jammed and would not open, so we could not check if we had a spare tire. Some farmer came by and heard our plight and returned 20 min later with a rusted old pump. But that rusted old thing, became our joy and worked. In a 1 minute we were pumped and headed back into town. What a sweet man......LOVE THE RUSTY old thing.
Had to move this afternoons study to tomorrow because my studies father got driven over by accident at work. This meant a trip to hospital to discover that he had a broken leg. Fortunately that was all, considering it was a backhoe that went over him. They did a head scan, but alls well....thankfully.

It comes with the territory.....there will be many more before she's a toddler..Im sure. Fortunately I'm only required now and again and while my son is on the rig. She's actually doing amazingly for a first time mommy.
Asta...people that are prepared to open up to help others understand, are admirable. I have not had our convention yet, due next month, but Im told the experiences have you in tears daily.....and this I heard from someone who is generally stoic. So...I will go armed with tissues daily because I can get very moved by peoples experiences...especially if i happened to have shared them or experienced similar.
Its a bright sunny day here today, without being hot. Perfect for field service.

Ginna, DH was even interviewed a few months ago and the bulk of the discussion had to do with his effort to deal with the depression. Has many in tears in the KH.

Celeste', so sorry about the rough night.

Last night we had our first "bad" night with the new baby. Dil had a traditional SA meal called samp&beans not knowing that you cannot eat beans and breast feed. Hence the poor little babe had such stomach ache. With hubby back on the oil rig, it was left to granny to help console mom and baby. After that, I was more than ready for bed and stupidly ate a handful of cashew nuts....who knew cashew nuts generate THAT much energy. I could not fall asleep for trying. I tossed and turned all jolly night long. As a result I feel brain dead today. I prepared for the meeting and my studies tomorrow but the bible reading is just beyond me today. I read a few lines and have to reread and still its not making any sense. Maybe i'll have better "luck" in the morning after a good nights sleep.

That is great that your husband shares with others about his depression. There are so many struggling and that is indeed a big help to them if they open up to someone with a caring ear.

Ginna, Thanks for the compliment. I did try on a bunch of pants at Chico's...and have at other places occasionally, also. Biggest problem I have is that my pants seem to be always baggy on the back of the thigh. I still have tummy that has to fit into the pants, so that limits what sizes I can wear, unless they have LOTS of elastic.

Depression is a serious issue..and often hidden. My husband has struggled with it for 36 yrs...and at one point, was looking for a way to end it all...leaving me with a farm and four little kids!! That would have been terrible. Fortunately he got help..and it has taken time to find the right combination of meds. reduce his stress load since stress is a trigger for trouble. He also has been willing to tell his story and to be available to others who need/want to talk about their depression.

Good for you checking on yourself, Ginna. The actual number is not really the issue, it is knowing if you are gaining or losing lbs. Congrats and stopping the upward trend and reversing it! Congrats on 5 lbs off!

I have had down days before but I don't suffer from depression. My sister does and I feel so bad for those that suffer from depression. We had a sister in the south congregation of our hall that tried to commit suicide relating to depression. It breaks my heart. Looking forward to a time when we won't have to deal with such issues.

Asta, you don't look like a size 12 at all. I think you need to go out and try on some pants. You may get a big surprise on what size you really are. The size really doesn't matter though. It's about feeling good and being healthy.

I knew I had gained some weight. I am an emotional eater and it started when my parents died then dealing with my son and his baby boy he doesn't want anything to do with. I went to the doctor for shingles, got on the scale and was shocked. Oh well, I have lost 6 pounds so far. It did me good seeing it on the scale. I never weigh myself but I am going to do it once a week now, just so I can keep track. I needed the wake up call.

We are having some beautiful fall weather and I love, love it. So good to exercise in. My husband went on another hike with me. Talk about gorgeous. Looking forward to another hike soon. This is also my favorite time to go out in the ministry so I am going out on Tuesday and Wednesday this week because we are going camping this weekend.

Take care everyone,

Ginna

Sorry for our sister and all concerned. It is a terrible thing to have to deal with such depression. Wonderful that the congregation has stepped up to help.
Had a study once who slit her wrists and then called police (her husband and 3 yr old were asleep in the next room)..but I believe in her case, it was a cry for help. Husband was furious with her...and eventually they ended up divorced and she lost custody of the child. Bad situation, but all caused by mental illness.

I love walking early on Sunday mornings. NO traffic! I got in about an hour of walking...and thus more than half of my 12000 step goal...by 7:20 am after opening the chicken coop and putting out the feed for the day. I am watching my weight creep downward on the new scale. 4.8 lbs to go to get to my already stated weight loss goal...which is still steady on my old scale. lol Then a few more pounds to go till my new scale recognizes me again!! THAT is really funny to me, but oh well.

Hope everyone has a good day today and makes good choices!!! emoticon

I have never suffered any form of depression, the closest ive come is that blue feeling. But I can see how debilitating it is in others. The sister who was rushed to the hospital, tried to commit suicide due to depression. So sad. She is out of the neuro clinic now and the congregation is taking turns at sitting vigil with her while her hubby works to make sure she doesnt try again. Really a sad old system full of sickness of all kinds. Its going to be unbelievable when no one ever talks about how sick they feel anymore. I wander what the topic of conversation will be then......what new animal we just touched?

I can't IMAGINE that I am anywhere near a traditional size 6...a 12 on my lower half if the clothing has elastic (lots of elastic) maybe! Nice to dream about though, thanks!!

Nice morning in service today. Hubby's depression issues are popping up some though and I sure do have a hard time dealing with his impatience and sometimes rudeness...today because I couldn't understand what he wanted me to do at a very busy gas station! emoticon Went on to 2nd station and when I asked where he wanted me to go..he points...as if I can read THAT signal from the road. Then when I went where he wanted, the way was blocked by a truck w/boat trailer. SO happy to be home. Glad this is not the norm for him.

Weather is very warm, 87 degrees F., here and very dry. Am not quite half way through my steps for today but will do some mowing this evening when things cool down some.

Hope everyone is having a good day...and making GOOD choices! emoticon

Yes I am familiar with Chico's. We have a couple of them here in Grand Rapids. Yes the sizes are different. A .5 is about a size 6 in conventional sizes. So you are in a size 6 girlfriend!!!
That is great! Way to go.

I am back on point. I just need to get this extra weight off so I don't have to go out and buy new clothes. Hopefully it won't take too long with all the exercise I have been doing lately.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Thanks Gina. MIL wanted to take me clothes shopping...though I didn't want to go. I was surprised at the sizes that fit. Must have tried on 8-10 prs of the pants...diff. styles and sizes. Saleslady kept bringing next size smaller. Are you familiar with Chico's stores? The best fit on top was a 2 and the pants that fit best were...get this...point.5! I have NO idea how those sizes relate to what I am used to. It was a nice feeling, though.

Self portrait taken with new outfit, gift from MIL. I still can't believe I managed to lose 3 lbs while we visited my in-laws. So far, home almost a week and the scale is steady. We are continuing the walking, too. 12000 steps a day.

I finally broke down and purchased the Fitbit Aria...a scale linked to the Fitbit tracker. I followed the directions to get it started, including bringing the scale within 10 feet of the wifi modem. THAT was a mistake...in stepping on the scale as it directed, I got three different weights...each lower than the first! Trouble is that the floor is not flat/level..so these readings were not accurate. Worse yet, I can't seem to reset it! I was highly amused when the scale congratulated me for losing over 5 lbs! (iin a matter of minutes). So, for now I am a guest on the scale since the more correct weight doesn't match "me" (from the first weigh in). I can't win...but now have a new goal..to meet that lower weight! Hope it won't take years to get there.

Hello all. Im back from 4 days (working holiday) in Jeffreys Bay...surfing mecca. I have EXCITING news, but it isnt about surfing....sowing more to the point. We arrived home at 5.30pm and my dil had this crazy need to pop in and visit her pregnant friend whom she hasnt seen for 2 weeks. She got there, heard what a terrible week she had and after listening intently said "I know I normally an the queen of what to do...but I have since learned that we do not guide our own steps" and promptly offered her friend a study AND SHE ACCEPTED. She is going to initially sit in on my dil study with us and then if she feels comfortable with me, will study. If for any reason, she is not comfortable (I dont usually have that affect on people) I will train my dil to study with her. But oh my word, I cannot believe the changes my dil has made in her life. My wild child has rounded her rough edges and relying on a source far greater than her own 22 yrs. I am over the moon. Its so obvious that the angels are doing their own ministry and that Jehovah is guiding us to sheep like ones.

I will NOT run emotionally from compliments and hide in fat layers for protection.

Happy to hear of progress with all these studies and calls!

Br. Mark here has a study with a guy that just walked into KH. Mark offered a study...guy (can't think of his name) accepted. Just a few weeks later, he went to all three days of the RC! Still coming to mtgs and studying. Pretty fantastic that there are still folks out there like that!

Good things to hear from everyone. Very encouraging. Bro. Bill's study, Benny, answered today. He gave 2 comments. Bro. Bill is proud as a peacock. He says "that's my boy". They invited to hospitality after the meeting yesterday so I'm very excited to see him at tonight's meeting and her his thoughts on how it went.

Ginna, get Ron going...even if only on short walks!!! My DH has not been walking until we went to see his parents..but walking 12000 steps a day with me got him going, hills and grades and all! We both went through some soreness since the walking there was different from here where my walking is mostly on flat road/driveway. DH endured and now I am hoping he will keep it up..once you get the muscles working, it gets easier. He wanted to watch football rather than walk yesterday..though we did squeeze in a walk between getting home from KH and the start of the Titans game...so he dragged the stationery bike in and rode 10 miles during the games. Also a first! He said he was surprised to find the difference 11 days of walking had made...before this, he could barely manage to 'ride' a mile and had to quit!!

Yesterday SP had an article posted about men losing weight...getting that belly off is imperative for men even more than women. (I think this is it:

Anna, that is so encouraging to hear about Brother Bill's study. That is the kind of study everyone dreams of. It must be so exciting to hear the updates of his progress. Very motivating to get out there and find those right hearted individuals.

Asta, glad you had such a wonderful time on your trip. Congratulations on goals met. You are a huge motivation to me.

Celeste, sorry to hear about the sister that collapsed. Hope she is okay. You are funny...I am sure you will survive the heat and the trip.

You all have such interesting lives. Not much happening here. Loving the fall like weather. Went on a very long hike with my hubby. We have trails in a wooded area called Coast Guard Park and it is so beautiful. It is along the lake shore so there is a nice breeze. I wouldn't want to go alone though. It is very secluded back there. I went a few years ago with my husband and daughter and ended up getting separated from them because the trails go off in a lot of different directions. I started at Coast Guard Park and ended up in Hoffmaster State Park about 7 miles away and had to come all the way back. It had started to get dark and it was very scary. Every once in a while I would see some guy on the trail. I was so happy to see Miranda and Ron in the car when I finally got out of those woods. I want to go again, but Ron can't hang with me as far as exercise, I wore him out the other day. Going to have to find a new exercise partner....lol.

Well you all have a great week!

I was startled this morning not only to have lost 3 lbs while in Seattle, but also to realize I HAVE MET MY ORIGINAL GOALS as of today. It took 8 yrs to lose 40 lbs. I have made little changes one thing at a time. I stopped yo-yoing which was major. I have not tried on the wedding gown (one of my goals, but I weigh 2 lbs less than when I married, so I am sure it will fit.)

So this evening I reset my goals...for ten more pounds to go. I definitely don't have the same figure I did 44 years ago!

And who knows how accurate my scale is. New one ordered!

Ditto Anna's post!

We returned home yesterday from 12 days of travel. DH's family lives in Camano Island WA. His Dad is 89, so I make a point of getting DH up there for a visit at least once a year. It is ALWAYS something of an adventure...lots of stuff going on and to deal with while we are there.

We did LOTS of daily walking...12000 steps a day or more. There were grades and hills we aren't used to so both of us got sore at first..esp. him since this walking is a new regime for him. He did well. I lost 3 lbs! Very happy about that, but now will have to work to keep them off and keep going. What I just realized, though, is that I have met my Sparkpeople goals! Never thought I would get there!

We had a fantastic speaker today...talk on Proverbs 3:1-20. Br. Jonathan Davis is here from NC ( I think) and is the son of our WT conductor, Tobias Davis. When it was arranged for him to give our talk, no one expected his aunt (one of Tobias' sisters) to die (she had a long battle with cancer. She was a very faithful sister.). A huge gang of his family came for the memorial...and many were at our mtg today. Br. Davis has a huge family.

Very glad to be home...and not to have connected with the 100 degree heat that killed many of my plants while we were gone. Our 8 yr old grandson got the mail, fed the chickens etc, but since we didn't expect the heat, I had made no arrangements for watering other than water for the chickens. Many of my flowers would be dying soon anyway, but it always makes me sad to lose them at first frost..but with the weird weather we have these days, who knows when that will be. Anyway, all is well, weather is gorgeous and there is no place like home.

That is a delightful experience Anna. Today we had a substitute speaker. Turned out the brother who was meant to give the talks wife suddenly collapsed and they rushed her to the hospital. We still have not had news of her....they are from an out of town congregation. I do know someone in that cong and will be able to check on whether she is in our hospital or one on the other side of their little town.
The sub speaker brought out a point I didnt know. He was speaking about being respectful at all times....to each other....to those in the world who expect better from us.....but mostly to Jehovah. He then brought out the point that I didnt know...the brother who reads for the bible reading on jw.org is in a cubicle all on his own, other than one brother who does the sound...yet he dresses up in a suit and tie. why? Because he is showing Jehovah utter respect. I thought that so profound and beautiful! Everywhere we are, everything we do is all done before Jehovah and therefore deserves our doing it as right as possible to show Jehovah respect.

I will NOT run emotionally from compliments and hide in fat layers for protection.

Love hearing of the "finds" in service and how they are progressing!

We are HOME after 12 days of travel and I am SO happy to be back on my laptop instead of the iPad. This is so much faster and easier for me to navigate. We had a nice time in Camano Island. Ended up staying an extra three days with parents-in-law because DH's sister, who was to pick us up last Wednesday became ill. We flew home today and are so glad to be back.

Have upped my walking to 12000 steps a day...it was easy up there and so beautiful an area to walk. We will see how I manage with it here. DH walked all the walking with me up in Camano..and it may have helped him not gain as he ate way to much (gained last year). We got almost 9000 steps done before we got home...but when I asked if he was going to change and walk, he said: "You can go," Reneging already!!

Now to get back into normal life and routine. Hope everyone is doing well as we approach the middle of the first month of the new service year! Keep making good choices!! emoticon

That is amazing. Stories like that are so wonderful to hear. One of the pioneers, Bill, in our group got a slip from the branch to call on this young man, Benny, who is living in program for paroles. He started a study with him right away. On his first study Benny said he wanted to attend the meeting. That particular weekend our congregation was to attend the regional convention. So Benny was told that he could still attend a meeting at same location but at a different time. At his next study, Benny told Bro. Bill that he did attend the Sunday meeting. He then asked about our weekday meeting and let Bro. Bill know that he wanted to attend that one too. Happy to say that he has attended every meeting since his first study. He is always asking questions about different subjects. Like is it okay to watch sports, is it okay to walk away from people who are using bad language or sharing dirty jokes. He says he keeps asking questions because he doesn't want to offend or hurt Jehovah. And when he attends the meetings he is always dressed in a suit.

Everyone in our pioneer group is so happy and excited that he was blessed with such a good student. Every week after he has the study Bro. Bill shares with us Benny's progress and the questions he asks.

LOVE IT emoticon

Its so incredible to see who Jehovah draws. This woman has had such a tough road because (a) her husband is an abusive husband, a racist and a nudist so everything the bible teaches goes against what he wants to do. .....she no longer accompanies him to his nudist colony and (b) her son is an atheist so never wants to hear anything she has to say regarding the bible. But she has never given up. Its taken her much longer than possibly someone else because of the added problem with being cut off every time we have a heavy rain.......but Jehovah called and she heard = wonderful.

I couldnt agree more. I spent 4 hrs with a study today. She lives on a farm and due to the weeks of rain, has not managed to have a study or get off their farm for the meetings....cut off. But the water has finally subsided and we made it and she begged us to catch her up completely. After our morning with her, she wrapped her arms around us and said "you have become so precious to me, I cant live without Jehovah and his people anymore." Oooh I felt the tears welling up but didnt particularly want them to spill over....so I took a deep breath. So nice to see her love and appreciation for what she is learning.

I can't seem to stress this enough. There is so much joy in serving our creator. My wish is that all his servants can feel that same fulfilling joy.

So far, our congregation does not have territory suitable for weekly cart witnessing, though we do set up a booth at special town events.

Easy to skip the soda when they don't offer anything you are interested in. emoticon

Am nearly at 10000 steps for today...2000 more will be so easy. Fitbit thinks I have climbed 27 flights of stairs, but that is mostly from climbing the hills as we walk. I am not complaining!

Cart witnessing is different but fun. I don't know what our schedule for the cart work will be for the winter though. We just barely got assigned cart work 2 days a week in June. We will just have to wait and see. But we don't have rough and cold winters here in the san joaquin valley. It does make it nice for the elderly to do. Although our congregation doesn't have many volunteers to do it.

Good job by limiting your pizza intake and no soda. I don't think I could have gone sodaless though. I would have to have it, the real thing too, not the diet one either.

I havent done cart work for a while now. In the beginning I did it weekly, but as the elderly in the congregation realized how fabulous it was....and we have a LARGE contingency of elderly, I gave up my slot. I take the two sisters to the field after collecting the cart and then do magazine work while they do cart work. Afterward we all go for tea/coffee before I return them. Its such a wonderful new method of reaching people. In our area, people are used to our carts now and frequently come to chat to whoever is manning it at the time.
I am having a "party" tomorrow after our study. My study wants to celebrate my granddaughters birth...so its going to be a party for....three. Hey, threes a crowd you know. Chuckle.

I bet it is just beautiful in Washington. Way to go on keeping active too! I love pizza so it would have been hard for me not to over indulge. Glad you didn't overdo it. Enjoy the rest of your visit.

Glad you had a great day cart witnessing. Our cart witnessing is almost done due to the cooler weather that will be heading our way in a couple of months. I think we stop at the end of September.

Hi to everyone else, hope all is well.

So glad you had a good day with the cart.

DH and I met up with several of the sisters with whom I have been friends online for years...only one of whom I had met in person prior to today. We met in Port Townsend and shared a delicious pizza lunch. It was fun for everyone to get acquainted. None knew everyone...except me! But it wasn't long until connection began to surface. Only in Jehovah's family do we become instant friends and family and then find mutual experiences or friends.

I tried to be careful not to overdo it with the pizza and had no soda. I started my walking at 6.m. Got in my last steps right after we returned...12000 plus.

Sounds like you are having an enjoyable time Asta. Holidays are wonderful and its sooo hard not to eat as a hobby. Especially when you are with family who havent seen you for a while and love food. Ours is a barbecue family and its always tough getting our younger members to just have enough for us. They always want to spoil us and have excess meat or more salad than is necessary.
Enjoy your time away. Your stair climbing will fix anything once you get home, but it sounds like your current walking and inclines will take care of the holiday spread.
My sister is finally back from her visit with her kids combined with attending the assembly. We are going out to catch up but thankfully it wont include eating because she has to work off the weight she put on up there. She has a newish daughter in law who was showing off her cooking and baking skills and my sister just couldnt say no...didnt want to spoil the happy newish relationship between them.

We are having a nice visit with DH's crazy family. I am getting in over 12000 steps each day...with some whopper hills. My Fitbit thinks I am climbing many flights of stairs more than I actually am. 10 a day is my daily goal at home...but I have 20 on my tracker already, mostly from hiking a steep hill and an incline this morning before KH. As far as eating goes, in some ways I am eating much better...more salads and veggies. I will be delighted if I can just manage not to gain!

Well said, Celeste'! I agree.

DH and I are in Camano Island WA visiting his family. Walking A Lot in this beautiful area and DH is walking with me. We've both (but especially him) struggled with some sore muscles from walking some pretty steep hills. Eating too much is a constant hazard.

I am looking forward to visiting the Stanwood Congregation this morning.

That is so great to hear. Its always such a relief to see someone return to Jehovah......and then to regular pioneer is just the cherry on the top. Love hearing experiences like this.
Keep up the pioneering, we who cannot, due to circumstances pray for your strength and courage to keep happy in the ministry and we work along with you in all parts of the world, looking for a caring for little sheep.

Haven't been in the chat room in a while. For good reason though. I started regular auxiliary pioneering in March. I enjoyed it so much that I started putting regular pioneef hours in June. I became an official regular pioneer in August.

I can honestly say you truly don't know the joys of the ministry until you have pioneered. You read about it in our publications all the time. You know, the personal experiences. And trust me they are truly refreshing. And you can only imagine that personal joy they talk about. But when you live it, it's awesomeness at its best and now I can say I truly understand that feeling that they try to convey to us, readers, in their experiences.

synergy

Spell Syllables
Examples Word Origin
noun, plural synergies.
1.
the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.; synergism.

So, new month..new service year. NEW, NEW NEW. How about a new you, too?
Anyway, all the good things from Jehovah are coming together...and soon that new system will be here. Until then, we must work at keeping and improving our health and fitness. Diet and exercise and good attitude work together to help us progress. Come on! We can DO this!

As this September rolls us closer to this system ending, we also see how the world wide organization is working together on so many levels. Let's try to put our best forward spiritually, too.

Welcome to a new month, new service year!
