I have a morbid weird sense of humor that at best is 'inappropriate' for most people, working in health care will do that to you along with dealing with a lot of death at a young age.
Unlike some people on here my family never viewed me as an odd ball because we share the same interests and views. We're all morbid, agnostic, ghost believers (dad has premonitions and dead relatives that come to him in his sleep- hello! haha) but to others seem pretty normal.

I guess you could say I'm pretty Betty Crocker compared to some of you! My 'dark side' is definitely in my humor and interests, not in my fashion sense; I like my colored skinny jeans! In fact, if I had to have a label stamped on my head it would be a hippie. I'm definitely a granola eating juice head, haha!

I walk the fine line between a realist and an eternal optimist, and am practical and frank when it comes to the matters of death.

I enjoy reading true crime books, especially on serial killers and am interested in old buildings (namely psychiatric hospitals and penitentiaries) and their architecture. And while I can enjoy reading about cannibalism I could never watch scary movies. They scare the living shat out of me and I relive all the scary moments in them for MONTHS, my imagination is way too crazy.

I'm lucky to be married to a great guy that shares my sense of crude, relentless dark humor. While he may not be interested in serial killers and the invention of electric shock therapy, we enjoy the immature banter of penis' and vagina's and such.

way to hop on an old thread but why not...

I was born a macabre child really, at about 4 years old I insisted that my mother throw that Mickey Mouse thing away and I be a witch for Halloween that year. With increasing intensity as I aged Halloween has been taking over so to speak. I love a good tragedy, but only if written well. I am fascinated with bones and the insides of the human body.... I could stare at X-rays all day and surround myself in skulls ( I even have several tattooed on me ) I suppose you could call me into gore but i also find death fascinating and the way that the body changes throughout the stages of death... the whole "man chopped in half in motorcycle accident" thing.. I love it. Not necessarily because of the pain or sorrow but more the way that the body seems to explode outside of itself and the patterns the blood makes - how much blood, how little blood. Quite contrary though I cry when I see a hurt animal in the road and scold my children for stepping on ants or spiders... not a violent person at all lol I suppose you could call me odd but most just stick with macabre lol.

I guess I've always been dark. My mother told me that when I was a child she could put me in front of a horror movie and I would be quiet for a very long time. I grew up watching horror movies and I love them. I developed an interest in the paranormal and anything to do with the other side or strange and unusual. I wear dark clothes because I like it. My favorite holiday is Halloween. I'm into zombies and serial killers. I read Horror based books. I have a dark and sarcastic sense of humor. Fargo is one of my favorite movies. So why do I think I'm dark, I think I was born this way. emoticon

I was an SP member a while ago, but I didn't quite fit in with the rah-rah spirit of the teams that existed. I just rejoined and found this group - but "Dark" covers a broad range... Now, after reading all the posts in this thread, I can see that there are a lot of wonderful goth folks and only a few actual 'dark' kinksters who braved the possibility of having their posts flagged as 'inappropriate' to allude to the 'flogger' and D/s etc. Not that any of us is here on SP to cruise for fellow pervs, but it is nice to know that there are a few ; )

As you can tell from my screen name, I'm a long time punk rock guy, but also prone to long bouts of listening to goth music and what's not to like about the fashion?

I was born this way!!!!! LOL No really, I remember when I was really young, around 10 or so, my mother would let me decorate my room for Halloween and I would never take it down. I went through countless Christmas' receiving "colorful attire" and never wearing it, my mother secretly hoping I would drop my black attire. It wasn't until I turned around 17 my mom gave that up since she was wasting money every year. In High school I gravitated toward The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees and once in college I completely embrace the Goth culture. Now in my 40's and way way way overweight, I have lost some of my style (which I hope to reclaim) but my mind still is, and always will lean, toward the dark side.

Because I'm me. Mwhahaha. More importantly I'm "The Halloween House" For my town. Took a while to get to this point but it's so much fun to scare the kids. emoticon ummm I guess your suppose to say see the kids but scarring the kids is how you become "The Halloween House"

Some of my Halloween decorations stay up all year long. We like doing that so those props, usually DIY, can be aged and weathered before next year.

This year I'm getting married on Halloween. I'm going to be a dark Gothic fairy with a bit of steam punk mixed in. My dress colors are purple and black.

I also wear mainly Halloween jewelry. When stocking up last Halloween I hit the killer deal. Buy one get one free at Claire's. They have some of the best permanent jewelery.

My art is a bit on the dark side. I don't get it, but apparently dolls that have been burned, tortured, stitched, stabled, and had items attached to the doll in all weird ways is extremely creepy. To me it's an awesome peace of art that can be used as an accessory for any costume. But, to others around town and school you don't need a costume with one of my Dead Dolls in hand.

Oh ya, the fact that I painted a big canvas of a pop art, 1960 style, zombie. It looks awesome. Talking about zombies I have what we like to call the zombie deck. It's a dvd collection of about 200 zombie movies. And I'm in my 3rd year of volunteering for Coos Bay Zombiefest. Trust me I got making myself into a zombie down to an art.

Just an F.Y.I. if you ever want to get out of a store like walmart in under 15 minutes dress like a zombie. People will just dived in the isle for you. Had a chance to do that after an event we were hosting. it was so funny. Especially when I looked at the livers and the guy standing next to me got away as fast as he could. That made me giggle so much.

Total lack of a lighter side!

I am a Gnostic Luciferian, bisexual, submissive kinkster, into punk and psychobilly music. I tend to reject the label personally but I could be considered vampire-adjacent. I have a dark, sardonic sense of humor and my favorite hobbies include playing with dead things.

All that in a respectable 9-5 office/PTO package.

Thanks for making me scratch my head and scrunch my face up in thought :) I have always had a sense of my own mortalilty, due to losing my little brother suddenly to menningitis when I was 5 years of age. This horrible experience led to a lifetime of visiting the cemetary, seeing tears, and knowing the pain of loss. Discovering metal as a pre-teen definitely opened my mind to different avenues, and I am eternally grateful to music for that gift.

I was always the quiet, shy, sort of girl. My likes are not very different from many on this team, horror, history, and the generally more macabre view of life. Weird and different viewpoints make the world a more sane place emoticon

I embrace being pale (thank you Irish mom and dad) and often like to play it up via makeup and darker clothing. Black, red, green...those are musts.

Taking myself too seriously is something that I have never done. A morbid sense of humor (really any sense of humor at that) is the main pipeline that has kept me going through good times and bad.

I like tattoos, piercings, different lifestyles, but I am also conventional in some ways too.

My aesthetic preferences tend toward the Gothic, morbid, and weird, outside the mainstream, and often quiet.

There's just something appealing about looking at the world slant.

My name is celtic for darkone and since I love black all my life and am definately not a morning person or even daylight kind of girl I am much more at peace in the shadows of the moons glow. All my life is evolving around the night I work from 7 at night till 3 in the morning every week for over 12 years now and even when I was a teen I'd sleep all day and stay up till dawn everynight. There are definately sides to my personality that has a hard time controlling anything that I am not getting any benefit from, indulgences I fall back into so easily and have trouble reining in, once Im going over to the darkside theres no telling how long it will take before I can comeback.

I started Bodytrim on Tuesday 20th july weing 112kgs and my first goal is to loose 13kgs. Its 5 weeks following Bodytrim now and Ive lost 6.4kgs which is astonishing to me, because I am actually on track to reaching my first short tern challenge. Its almost 10 weeks since I began Bodytrim now and I went of track for 3 days in my 8th week and gained 2.5kgs but I got right back on the eating plan and lost 1.5kgs the week after so Ive lost exactly 7kgs so far. Ive broken my weightloss challenge int

I remember holding a funeral for a dead bird as a child and thinking "this is fun."
As a teen I was emo before it was cool
As a young adult I was drawn to Shakespeare's tradgedies and drama
As a parent I raised my kid on fairytales ( nothing darker then Grimm's tales ) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Today I put on reenactments in the cemetary and murder/mystery dinner events.
I look fabulous in black with my pale skin and red hair and love to wear delicously goth stuff.
Does this make me dark? Hell yes, and I love it

I follow an alternative path and have alternative friends most of which are tattooed or pierced. I enjoy Gothic art and architecture as well as Goth and Industrial music. Nothing better than a group of people dressed in their finest Steam/Diesel Punk attire having a picnic in a cemetery on a cloudy day. and Who doesn't love Dexter?!

I dunno. Quite literally, I've always preferred the dark, hence a lifetime third shift worker. My second wind comes around 9 PM every night and that's when I am revitalized, no matter how much or how little sleep I may have gotten the day (or night) before. Lifelong insomniac. Wicked sense of humor that could be termed off color. Prefer to think 'outside the box'. LOVE a good laugh more than anything. Total realist (daily living-wise), but still total fascination with all things metaphysical and paranormal. Some out of the norm beliefs, on the spiritual aspect of things. Don't really have any 'dark' pursuits of any kind....not a big vampire/werewolf/horror movie kinda person, or anything like that, but then again I am a grandma so I think I'm kinda past all that stuff. LOL Really used to like the macabre when I was younger, was a big Stephen King fan back in grade and middle school. All of those horrible 'what ifs' just fascinated me, even tho I never gave any real credence to anything like that. But was still fun to think about it! Really despise real-life violence of any kind. Soooo....maybe not so 'dark', in the literal sense of the word, but different enough to have been labeled that along the way. LOL I figure I'm not unique so I'm thinking I'll fit right in. :)

Hey, Boo, I didn't know you were a team leader here, good to see ya! Glad to see Taz is still around, too! I actually used to be a member here, but I'm thinking I dropped out back when I dropped off of sparks and came back under a new name and didn't bother redoing a lot of my old teams. ??? So I guess I'm not a real 'newbie'....LOL

I personally identify a little with darker stuff and identify with darker people. They are more open and more tolerant. The creativity level is so high!

Apparently to some people, just me being Pagan is dark.

My sense of humor and justice is also too twisted for some.

I tend to love darker movies and listen to darker music.

I am also realistic. Maybe it's due to the many things I have been through in my life,
but the world isn't all cheery and happen. Many people live in denial.

I think that this is complex but I was never girly. Not into cutie stuff (aside from manga/anime). Abhor Barbie pink (or really pale pinks or colors). Tend to like purples and grey tones and blacks during the winter at least. I like quirky movies like Memento and The Usual Suspects. Love forensic shows!

I've never considered myself goth, but I get along with goth people. I don't really follows witches or Tarot card reading or anything like that, but I'm fascinated with gypsies. I dress mostly in bright colors, love to dance, but hated being a cheerleader.

I dunno why I consider myself dark. Cheery people can get on my nerves, but in the groups I hang with, I'm the cheery one.

I embrace my differences, and seek those that have their own originality. Maybe that's why. I've always equated myself with punk and I hate mainstream mentalities.

You have to be a little dark when you cringe from the princess-lovers, cheerleaders of the world right?

Hmm...I've always been the quiet one (the one you are supposed to watch out for), the sit at the back of the class type with my hair in my face and my head down, drawing dark fairies and monsters bordered with song lyrics on a notebook. Now I'm 40 and I suppose I've matured out of the slouching head down march of mystery I entertained in high school, but that is probably the biggest difference. I'm still kinda the quiet one and am not so good at reaching out to people.
The first novel I ever read was Stephen King's Carrie when I was way too young to be reading something like that. I was hooked. I am a horror novel/movie/video game fan to be sure, and I write horror and dark fiction stories (a hobby I have all but given up on making into something), sketch images of similar when I still get the urge to sketch. My house is decorated for Halloween year round - the basement walls are done in old stone with a blocked arch door with sconces on the walls for light and various dungeon-style devices of doom (still in planning stages for our iron maiden...have been for 5 years so I don't actually see it happening but I can still dream), I painted a stylized dragon head over the mantel of the fireplace in our living room in black on blood-red walls. My kid just kind of shakes her head at me when she has friends over. There is another full size dragon on the large bare wall in my kitchen (to which one of my daughter's friends affixed a little cartoon bubble to the mouth reading, "Fix me a Sammich!", lol). I have almost finished a charcoal working on my bedroom wall of a dream image culminating into semi- to full formed fairies.
So, there's my dark I suppose. I enjoy it, and I have really enjoyed reading so many other posts on this topic!

Thanks!

I've been called a closet goth!

I was always the good girl in the family but about 10 years ago I broke free and have not been afraid to express myself in ways that many call unconventional. I think outside the box.

I love wearing darker clothing but not necessarily black. My uniform for work is black so I do like to add some color now and then. I belong to the SCA so we get to play in garb that would not be seen in the mundane world. I wear long gowns with under dresses, A beautiful red cloak made for me by my new sister in law. I do archery but not with a compound bow but a recurve, The old fashioned bows with a string and wooden arrows. I love knives and wear a 12 inch dagger.

I love darker movies two of my favorites are The Crow and Red Riding Hood. I love vampires and werewolves though I doubt either one would be real but I find them somewhat romantic. I fell in love with vampires watching Dark Shadows as a kid.

I love fantasy books and the struggle between good and evil. I have my nose pierced and my ears pierced several times but wont get anything else pierced. I do have several tattoos and want more. My last tattoo is of a Celtic triangle with the circle through it on my wrist with a band of green vine with roses on it. I designed it and love it!! The next one I want is on the other wrist a Celtic heart with graceful curves made into the band.

I am Celtic at heart. My husband and I both play some Celtic instruments and his family is very talented in that realm. His mother is a Celtic Harpist with her own CDs and his Father was in the Celtic Band Indigo. He plays any instrument he can get his hands on and so talented.

I am obsessed with the moon and stars. I have them everywhere in my home. I also love faeries.

I am definitely not your conventional gal. I don't wear makeup but I love jewelry as long as it is silver and has rainbow moonstones, stars and moons or Celtic symbols in them. I love dancing but not the usual dancing. I want it to be impressionistic. MY music changes from day to day but mostly I love sad songs, Celtic lilting songs and I do love rock and roll too.

I enjoy going to concerts where people in line look and ask if I am really going to the concert. I went to see Slip Knot, Mudvayne, Chivelles, Saliva, X- Static and some others and people who know me now still find it shocking that someone my age would go to that. We got to go to one of Slip Knots final concerts.

Do you think this makes me dark or on the dark side?

What a lovely and thought-provoking question. I have always been a little on the strange side. I was born in August of 1969 and was right smack in the groove of the punk rock movement. Growing up in Los Angeles I was able to go every Friday night, dressed as the French Maid, to the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Good times, good times. My favorite comic strip, by far, was The Far Side. That should give you a sense of my skewed sense of humor. I love horror and sci-fi. One of my faves is Stay Alive (about a video game based on Elizabeth Bathory w/ Sophia Bush); and I adore Vampire Porn. I guess the politically correct term would be paranormal romance, but, come on, let's call it what it is. I think it would be awesome if there was a world in which vampires and werewolves and real magik existed, but the world in my mind is pretty good, in the mean time. Being in my 40's I have long since stopped dying my hair green and black and blue; but, I am well tattooed and pierced. Most of my piercings are indiscreet though.
I don't practice satanic rituals, but I do have a very different philosophy than most of your average Americans. I'm a follower of Dr. Michael Newton: the founder of Life Between Lives therapy; the author of JOURNEY OF SOULS & DESTINY OF SOULS; and the founder of The Newton Institute. Look it up. His is fascinating and enlightening work.

Good question. I've always been drawn to things that are outside of popular culture. I acted out on this far more when I was younger (i.e. high school, college, and slightly beyond), but my dark side has become more internal now that I am married and have 3 children. Its not that I hide anything from the missus, I just don't think our young children are ready for many of the sorts of things I enjoy.

I've explored altered states of mind extensively, though these days I tend to try to reach them through meditation rather than using. In fact, I should probably clarify that I am in recovery and have been sober for 10 months. I took entirely too long to get here, but I am glad I am on the right path. I "limited" myself to grass and alcohol once we started having kids, but I was still slowly going down the spiral to self destruction without any semblance of real control.

I've had (and removed) a number of body piercings. The visible ones I removed when I decided to get into the corporate arena. The others were removed before I received a massive electric shock when I ended up in the hospital with a heart condition. I was in the hospital for a while, and decided not to get re-pierced once I got out.

I still have tattoos, and plan on adding more once I find an artist in my area and I can settle on a design. Specifically I am looking to do a large piece on my back and shoulders, but I have not yet decided on a design/theme.

I grew up listening to punk music, and spent most of my school years challenging authority figures at every opportunity. It took me a while to figure out that I wasn't exactly making things easy for myself, and that there was an easier way through life without having to compromise my core values.

I like reading about history, but not per se the kind of history that is taught in main stream courses. I like reading about cults and secret societies. I like reading alternative versions of commonly held beliefs. I don't always believe what I read, but I enjoy the different perspectives.

I've read many religious books and texts. The Old Testament, New Testament, The Torah, The Quran, The Zohar texts/books, as well as many books on Buddhism of all sorts.

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. Its fun for the kids, but I get a chance to let some of the darkness show. I glue onto my head a two piece skull mask that moves when I speak and allows me to eat. I have a custom made mage/necromancer hooded robe that I wear with the mask. It is black velvet on the exterior, and is lined in red satin on the inside. This year I added some Zombies crawling out of the ground as well as a fog machine for decoration at our home. I stood outside still as a statue, next to the candy basket.

Combined with the black lights it was a rather eerie effect. The younger children didn't approach the house (unless their parents forced them, tsk tsk). When older kids approached they would invariably try to determine if I was real or not. The only time I'd move I'd ever so slowly turn my head to follow their movement. A handful of kids ran off screaming, but they were also the ones that came back for seconds and thirds.

I had fun with it, perhaps a little too much fun.

Lots of rambling here on my part, I do apologize. Certain questions get me going like that, and it looks like this is one of those questions that got me thinking and typing.

I didn't read everyone's post because this one is so long now, but I did read through about half of all of them and I want to say that I'm definitely not as dark as a lot of people here, but like one person said, it's not a competition :)

I think I've always been pretty dark on the inside, but never able to show it on the outside. My family is Polish and the culture from what I know of it is mainly "light," practically no dark side at all. So when I wanted to start wearing darker clothes and such, of course my mother wouldn't let me and my father always expected me to be a daddy's girl that always wore dresses and bows in her hair. At least I got out of that one!!! But this is why I couldn't show any of my darkness on the outside.

Since I'm working on losing weight now, I'm so excited to finally be able to show myself to the world! I do wear a lot of black right now anyway, but not as much as I'd like. My imagination also gets me scared when I'm all alone in the house and when the lights are out. I have a huge dog and an attack cat, so I should feel safe, but I never do. I believe that ghosts exist. I've also always been drawn towards darker people.

Halloween is also my favorite holiday because I love the history of it and also really awesome "clothes" come out during that time and I absolutely adore the decorations too! I've been too poor to buy some decorations that I liked, but if I had more Halloween decos, they'd be up all year!

I listen to rock music and especially love the type of music that is a hybrid with lighter choir voices or orchestra...things like that. I like techno as well, and some pop music stands out to me, but I wouldn't say that I listen to it just because I only like a few songs here and there.

I have gotten a total of 12 piercings, 2 of which are "re-pierced" so I still count those as a stick--and they're all in my ears. No tattoos... still thinking about if I really want one or not. But if I were to get one, it would be something wolfy....like paw prints or a wolf howling maybe? Not sure.

I'm a certified phlebotomist. For those that don't know, a phlebotomist is the person that draws your blood. I've always thought that was fairly dark, and I truly enjoy doing it :3

I also just have a really twisted way of thinking sometimes... I'm just weird all around, but you wouldn't know it just by looking at me. I love being different :)

I think this is a super fun topic. =] As we have all joined this team for some reason or another....

Me? Outwardly it is the color of my hair, my piercings, my usual clothing choices. I wore corsets and velvet in FL when in HS (that was, granted, probably the stupidest thing ever, thank goodness my mom banned me from velvet in the summertime xD). Now, I tend to dress more conservatively due to my assistantship and school, but on the weekends, how I dress could definitely be considered "dark."

However, I find humor in the off-colored (that is not to say necessarily crass or crude), I enjoy literature with tinged undercurrents, love things like vampires (though not Twilight), the fae, and all else of that ilk. I like to explore the darker side of nature/people...=]

But, as someone else said, I do have a fair amount of lightness in me. xD

Everyone seems to be getting a little twisted up about being called "dark"... ummm, you joined "the darker side of sparkpeople"... i'm pretty sure that's calling yourself dark, nevermind to what degree. I'll admit to my being one of the darkest pasty white people I know lol. In art college my nickname was "The Queen of Darkness" not due to how I looked, but by the work I created. I'm a photographer/ditigal artist who creates dark, unusual, discomforting images because that's what peaks my interest... something that makes you FEEL different when you see it, not just "oh, how nice... a landscape/flower/pony frollocking in a field/etc"... no offense to happy-happy artists, it's just not what I do. I don't worship Satan or anything like that (though my family is certain that I'm a little disturbed with a preoccupation with death) but I'm generally just a agnostic, peaceful, happy, liberal artist who doesn't try to push her beliefs on anyone else. Some people have a hard time believing that I'm the creator of the images in my portfolio due to my constant up-beat-ness, but eh, it just adds to the shock value ;)

Like others said, they dont want to be pigeon holed into a dark person, but were here in this team so I had to think about it from others point of view. Why do OTHERS consider me dark.

Haloween is my favorite holiday, I keep certian decorations I like in my house all year, as well as taking trips to abandoned houses and cemetary's haloween night. As a matter of fact, Im the only person I know that would like to share my house with a dark spirit.
Im a person who enjoy's exploring the dark depths of music. I enjoy everything from Bonecrushing satanic metal, to Dark, ambient black metal. I also love Horror Rap.

Ive got several horror themed tatoo's, my favorite being Jason, from Friday the 13'th on my back. A machete in one hand, and my severed head in his other, lol.

People dont like to be judged, based on one aspect of their personalities, though. Im a verry giving person, who thinks of myself last. I always go out of my way to make others comfortable......which means I have to hide my darker side, LOL.

People generally dont regret the things they do . Most people regret the things they dont do in life.

the duality that is ME makes me dark for without darkness my light cannot exist.
my childhood, my interests, my humor and emotions.
it's not about hair dye and tattoos AT ALL although i love ink and dye.
sure i have some NIN & bauhaus but i also have cat stevens and glenn miller.
this thread seems to have pigeonholed some but i personally refuse to fit in any ONE category. omnipotence ain't easy.

Like other's have said, it's really based on personal interpretation or what other's view as being "dark," so there is no real set definition for it.

I suppose for myself, it's been a life long interest in horror and the darker art or surreal art that I grew up seeing and falling in love with. I have been heavy into corsetry for well over ten years. My music of choice tends to be within the metal range - death metal, melodeath, etc. - and includes many operatic voices. I am more interested in monsters and other creatures than in ponies and puppies. ^_^
I enjoy that I am paler and often play up my eyes and keep a somewhat gothic appeal to me, depending on where I am going.
I have a darker (or as I consider more realistic view) of humanity and sociopolitical topics.
I am completely fascinated with death and the many concepts and theories surrounding it and the afterlife (or lack thereof, depending on the individual belief).
The human anatomy intrigues me immensely, I could spend forever going over a skeleton or through anatomy books. It's just amazing to me.

My son follows in my tastes with his music and interest in animals or creatures, and he is only three. He sleeps with a stuffed Cthulhu doll, demands dragons and big monsters...
My boyfriend gets me and is like me in many ways. For our one year anniversary he had a chest hand-made for me that features artwork depicting Cthulhu since he knows my absolute favorite author is H. P. Lovecraft.

So...
I don't know, it depends on what people define as dark.

I find this question a bit odd. Who can define what it means to be "dark"?

I actually don't think that I'm "dark". I am just me, with my cynical and sarcastic self. I enjoy things that I guess others may see as "dark" but not because they are, but rather because they have beauty, often a beauty that others do not recognize because they are so caught up in how things are supposed to be that they cannot see anything else as valuable. Does that make me dark?

I am fascinated with mythology, angels, demons, nature and her laws, the concept of death and the likelihood that there is nothing that comes after it. I think the universe is a vast, beautiful and simple place filled with tiny points of light in the endless void. I think that without knowing and understanding the darkness, that one can never hope to know and understand the light.

You can make it a great day or not. The choice is yours.

What makes ME dark? *snickers a little* I think the question is how much of my darkness can I share before people start running in the other direction? *evil grin*

I'm an eclectic Pagan, a sense-addict (I get addicted to sensations, everything from a flogging to the sunshine on my face.), a masochist, a psychic vampire, and a borderline-nymphomaniac.

I am a daywalker by force of circumstance (ie 2 small children) not by choice. I prefer the night, I feel safer in the dark, and I do not fear the things that hide in the dark.

I am ruled by the moon. The full moon fills me with such energy that I have to run or go mad. I also swing very easily between being civilized and being entirely feral. I will snarl or growl when I'm angry.

I think that's as far as I'll go. Or rather, that's as far as I can go without going into my fairly twisted kinks which don't need to be shared on this site, methinks.

What makes me dark? Likely my honesty where I say what is true and do not sugarcoat things into the politically correct norm. I also have likes that most others are afraid to let be known so if you hint about them, you are considered weird, kinky or dark.

Do or do not, there is no try...

I have to agree with Chuchotement, I think this topic is a bit silly but having said that I'm going to answer it anyway.

I guess I don't really know if I am "dark." What does it mean to be dark?

The reason I joined this group is because (at least when I first joined spark a year ago) there is a tendency to sugarcoat everything around here. Which makes me feel like I'm going to be lynched if I speak openly in other forums. Slowly, I'm finding forums like this one and a few others which makes me feel more at home on spark, which makes me want to spend some more time on the site, which makes me keep track of my health more.

So, I guess if not following socialital norms makes me dark, than I'm dark.

Now, I want to be dark and skinny. :-)

To be quite honest with you, I find this topic a bit silly...so...

When my mother asked if I remembered who my favorite Sesame Street character was when I was little, I replied, "Ummm...I dunno, Super Grover?"

She corrected me and told me that it was always Count Cashier.

'nuff said.

I used to only come out at night! I've been a card carrying member of the Dark Side since 1965! (Then I burned it because I like fire!) I can't even begin to start to list the many different ways I've pushed the envelope! (If I did, I would probably be arrested!) Let's just say I've covered all the roses in the garden on this one! Just keep checking my blogs and posts....you'll see.

hmmm.
Well now. I've been pondering this about myself for a long time.
I've been into industrial/punk/goth before it was goth (hung out with Rozz williams of Christian Death if that earns me any dark points. We shared a danish.) Seriously since I was 13-I'm 38, now. Did the vampire thing/every hair color, mohawk, skater flop thing early on...hung out with Skinny Puppy off an on...I've been tattood and pierced since I was 18...
Ok enough with the pi**ing contest (lol!)
Yet I am an avid learner, book fanatic. top of my class (school admins loved that one)
I have always been drawn to the macabre. I was reading palms/tarot cards as a child. Why? couldn't tell you. Western Occultism and Celtic Paganism has been my focus. I gravitated towards it. I grew up in the woods, was raised in a pentecostal church, i was abused...so maybe that makes me dark, I dunno.
I can laugh at a great joke, have a few beers and really tell some great stories. And homebirth and breastfeed all my lovely children and make them the center of my world...and provide them with a bright, fun, childhood. Yet retreat into my own place and write some seriously dark sh*it. I don't think being like we all are keeps us from loving beauty, Whether it's the sight of your newborn smiling or a dilapidated old homeplace...
maybe it's all about facing mortality and not being jaded.
Or all the speed I did back in the day.
Thanks for reading my lengthy meanderings.

Wife to 1, mom to 5, avid crafter, music fanatic and reader, amateur bellydancer, sometimes writer.

Like so many others, I am not necessarily a "dark" person. (There is no elitist in me whatsoever) To look at me one would never guess that I enjoy a good industrial diddy (hehe) or even knows how to dance or knows what the beauty in death and darkness is. I have always admired the grace, beauty, individuality of the darker side. I don't look terribly good in any of the darker fashions, so I'm usually in jeans and a t-shirt, but as they say, clothing does not a goth make. That's my story. I'm sticking to it.

I am a tree-hugging dirt worshipping socially liberal Pagan. I worship nature in all of it's glory - both beauty and entropy.

Yeah, don't get the white dress twisted. I had to dress up and pretend to be "mommy" that night.

I just have an attraction to the darker things in life, a morbid curiousity of life and the world around me and often find myself dwelling in the darkness within.

Oooooh how could I forget, old decrepit cemetaries, small village cemetaries at night with only a few candles burning here and there...
unfortunately many cemetaries surround churches and those are lit up at night, so the effect is not as beautiful as I remember it 10 years ago.

LOL and lets not get into the erotic aspect of darkness, so much goodness there...

I am dark because I can find beauty in morbid things like death (not watching death, but say.. skeletal remains, the concept of afterlife etc) and decay ( I love old graves and old, decrepit buildings). I am also curiously drawn to anguish and heartbreak. I am dark because I ache for something eternal, for something deep and cold and midnight black.

I am dark because the night sky is my security blanket - full of safety, mystery and possibilities. I am dark because Halloween fills my heart with a joy like no other.

I have a strange sense of humor, and I have a personality that I can adapt to many social situations very easily but my heart belongs to darkness. It's beautiful and hideous, it's vast and open and nothingness at once. It's black lace and cemetery dirt. It is unconventionally beautiful.

I enjoy NIN and Rasputina and The Birthday Massacre and Mindless Self Indulgence. I adore Steampunk, Loligoth, Victorian, Twisted Fairytales, and Ren fashion. Piercings, tattoos, Weird hair are all beautiful in my book.

I often read about vampires, witches, ghosts and other supernatural horror topics. I think Twilight vamps are by far the most ridiculous things to be passed off as vampires in forever and despise the series.

I have always been considered the "Dark one", or "Dark Horse" as far back as i can remember, between my family, friends...ect Along the way i still have managed to enjoy my own company, (SheWolf no mates)..lol, It was always said i was a person who revealed little or nothing about myself or my activities, esp any of my unexpected talents and abilities emoticon

I actually did a bit of surfing on this because i couldn't find the right wording for what i wanted to say about myself. Well, here goes nothing..lol

I am DARK because the Darker side of my personality is hard to hide..... "Highly excitable people have been rewarded early in their careers for enthusiasm, passion, and high energy. They work extra hard because they expect to be disappointed in relationships. What managers first see is the hard work – that is until they feel they have been mistreated at which point they erupt – yelling, throwing things, and slamming doors. Under pressure, they become volatile and unpredictable. Because they feel life is not always fair, they can display a great deal of empathy, seen early on as compassion and caring. But as responsibilities increase and challenges mount, they require a lot of personal attention and reassurance and become very hard to please. As a result, they have difficulty building and maintaining a team. In many organizations, an inability to recruit and retain talent can be directly traced back to such Dark Persona's.
Well, that explains why i have no family or friends...lolol

I am dark because I love lots of dark things. Horror movies, paranormal, vampires, werewolves and twisted movies like nightmare before christmas, corpse bride and thigns like that. I love tim burton, Helena bonham carter. I have a dark sense of humor. I love dark gothic like clothing though I don't wear it much being a stay at home mom :)

I'm obsessed with vampires! I wish I was one. I am a die-hard True Blood fan. Eric Northman is by far the hottest vampire I've ever seen!

"everyone is a little bit dark because no-one is completely mainstream/normal."

And thank all the gods for that! Otherwise, just imagine how BORING the world would be!

:) I wouldn't necessarily consider being bi a "dark" thing. Or maybe dark just means not-mainstream? Then everyone is a little bit dark because no-one is completely mainstream/normal. Hah!

Besides, it's much more fun to fall in love with people than with men/women. And both can be equally sexy. ;)

:grins: Yeah, there are SO many times at work I just start giggling, thinking "If you people only knew..." (Then again, most of them have major clues since my motto is "Ask me a direct question, I'll give you a direct answer - so just be sure you really want to know") Muhahaha!
