I LOVE TOMATOS. I HAVE TRIED MANY TIMES TO HAVE A GARDEN WITH LITTLE SUCCRSS. SINCE I HHAVE JOINED PLANET FITNESS I MANAGE TO GO A LEAST 3XS A WEEK. THIS WEEK MY RIGHT HEEL HAS BEEN HURTING A LOT. My tomatoes are growing like it's mid July. Loaded with tomatoes and new flowers... It's going to have to snow or freeze several days before I rip them out. LOVE fresh tomatoes. My pepper plants have flowers - have had all season - and not one pepper :)

Just a little quiet around here these days. So I guess I'll start us off on this fine Thursday. Cooled off a bit last night and it's a pleasant pleasant morning for a change. A refreshing break from the heat and humidity here in central Virginia.

I dismantled about 80% of my garden just left a few plants in beans peppers and eggplant . We'll see how they do for the rest of the year don't really know if I'll get more eggplant but I'm kind of hoping I will.

I've got my dog enrolled in a rally class coming up beginning of October so we will be off to do some practice later on today. I need it really more than he does. I don't know if any of you are familiar with rally obedience but it is as much a task for the handler as it is for the dog . Actually I think it's more on the handler than it is on the dog.

I've been very MIA this summer. Been dealing with the continuing saga of "Heather and her medical mysteries". lol. I've been on bedrest, sidelined and dealing with all the health stuff for most of this year, so I haven't really been very active since late March, early April. Things are slowly getting better and now I just gave myself a big giant kick in the booty...I registered me and my 13 year old daughter, Lola, for the Wicked 10k in Virginia Beach October 29th. So I have exactly 7 weeks to get myself back to some kind of functioning order so I can attempt to walk/run 6.2 miles without ending up in the medic tent or spending a week afterward recovering from any aches and cramps and whatnot.

If I sound like I'm being hard on myself, I probably am. Since 2012, I've completed several races, including 4 half marathons. I shouldn't even be batting an eye at a 10k.

It's amazing how God took my feeble attempts at growing tomatoes and I have a bountiful supply. I buy plants and then plant them with 5-6 inches of the plant below the earth (along with the roots that come with the plant) and planted them in rows .... I used wire cages, but didn't put them in deep enough and when the tomatoes grew, and after it rained and the ground was soft, the cages tipped... I learn something new every year :)

Rough night sleeping wise last night. My dog 20 months got (I think) kennel cough from his younger brother 5 months who most recently attended a breed show.

Now we believe our 13 year old is coming down with it also.

With all the hacking, coughing, and vomiting, rest is not an option

No pool exercise today, but work 4 hr tonight (nurse in NH).
I did do some shopping, so got some steps in :)
Had fun grocery shopping today and got some fun stuff,,, some goat meat balls, some Brie cheese and some Feta cheese (my new favorite) thought I had boughten some goat cheese but it was no where to be found when I got home.
Now trying to cool off before I get read for work.

After dinner last night I had a little land slide if you know what I mean and stopped logging my food intake. Went a little overboard in the snacking department stopping short of a binge. That's the good part. Bad I probably ate back all I burned yesterday.

So back at it today. Cardio day for me with Treadmill for 30 @ 5% and then general strength training for 40.

Not sure how many calories I get in the burn department for kicking myself for last nights slip.

I did 45-60 minutes in the pool. I calculated the distance today and I walked about 1/2 mile in the pool.

SAD... only about 2 weeks left here for me to use the pool. The nights will get too cool to keep the pool at a temperature where it will be enjoyable.

I hung up or put away all my clean clothes
Started a load of clothes in the washer
I cleaned up my dirty dishes.
I cut up tomatoes and put in refrig for later.
I took my morning meds and Vital Red, etc.
I helped my SIL and GS take out an old window AC unit
We cleaned the windows,
I recorded all food and exercise on Spark.
And I'm enjoying some Spark notifications...
Paper work,,, and then at noon to the pool for my exercise...

Even though this team isn't all that active, it's fun to come back and talk to people who live in this state. I'm more active on "interest" teams,,, but find I can spend A LOT of time on the computer,,,, which I shouldn't do.... So, I only stop in here occasionally... Because this is a location team rather than an "interest" team, we have a myriad of ages, activities, etc.

For me, I planted tomatoes this year and now I have an abundance of fresh tomato. I'm eating them as fast as I can,,,, and they are making me full, so I'm not eating junk... I'm trying to maintain a 1200 calories intake,,, low carb!

Have to go to a soccer game (grandson) this afternoon and then catch a snooze and go to work. Even though I'm 76, I'm still working part time (nurse) and the night nurse called out. I call it my "retirement job" They call to have me fill in and I can say "yes" or "no." Love it!

Hope all is well with others.
Me,,,, I'm SO SAD, that it's the last of August already... I dread winter so much, that I cherish even these hot days. I spent 1.5 hours at my pool today.... I water walk for about a mile and then catch a few rays. Great exercise for bad knees...

To speak to what livdaily posted - I hear you. I have also done exactly the same you have done in your post. I said goodbye.. I found that for me I thought it would be a positive move - instead it was a negative move. All my progress reversed itself. So although I never left SP I did bail on all my teams out of the same frustration as you.

This team is way too big, automatically assigned, and people either lose interest of never reach their goals and fall off.

Regardless of others we all need to do what we need to do for ourselves first.

I too want to see activity.

What if we started a team with a select few who wanted to be active on a daily basis (for the most part)?

What do you say? What do you all say? Should we start a new team for our better health and well being? Maybe we could simple name it something like "Activity" emoticon

Lost my fitbit for a few days,,,, found it last night in an unsuspecting place - in the side of my chair... Thankful to have found it, as I would never have looked there. So, now I can track my steps again. It's encouraging to do so!

Oh, those all sound yummy!! My mother used to make something that she called eggplant parmesan, but it wasn't like what you get from an Italian restaurant. She'd make it in the summer when everything was bursting out of the garden. Eggplant, peeled and sliced about half an inch thick; ripe tomatoes, sliced about a half an inch thick. Both of these she'd dredge in seasoned bread crumbs and fry lightly, then drain well. Then she'd stack a slice of eggplant topped with a slice of the tomato, topped with a heavy sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Then she'd bake them in the oven until the cheese was melted, and the eggplant and tomato were cooked through. SO good!! And really tasty the next morning for breakfast, cold!! She'd make at least 2 trays of these for the 5 of us.

The temp on the GF depends on what I'm cooking, but I "cooked" sliced Daikon radish, sliced turnips, kale (think the oven may be better), sliced radishes, yum, yum, fried green tomato slices (without the coating) but think I'll find a low carb coating to try .... my tomatoes are coming along -- soon I can pick one and eat it!

Got the George Forman Grill out last night and grilled some chicken breasts. I used freshly ground black pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, olive oil, and lemon juice to make a basting blend. Smeared it all over the chicken, then grilled - yummy and easy!!

It's EARLY Tuesday morning, 6:44 DST East Coast. I haven't been up, and awake willingly this early in I can't remember. Woke up at 4:49, went to the bathroom, and went back to bed and laid there WIDE awake. Tried cat napping, but that didn't woke, so got up and started sparking. Will ride the bike again today!! Today is Sunday, the first day of a new week! A SF wrote on her blog about one new thing she was going to do that day for herself, to help her in her journey. I wrote that I was going to get back on my bike...and I DID!! There is POWER when you write down the things you want to do!

Just checking in. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! Enjoy your special day with your families. I imagine many of you will be grilling today. I was watching The Chew on Friday, and Mario Batalli made a mixed grill that looked amazing. He grilled a whole tenderloin, and when it was done, sliced it to serve. THAT looked great!! Hamburgers and hot dogs are great too, though!! Enjoy!

Good to see you here Gram! While I currently do not live in VA, I lived in Norfolk for 7 years, and my brother, who was born in VA, lives in Louisa Co. I visit him every chance I get! Yes, walking can be some of the best exercise you do, even with arthritic knees!

I'm new posting. I live in Richmond though have lived in Manassas, Fredericksburg and Lorton.
Came to Spark after having been successful on Weight Watchers but cost and attending meetings go to be too much so have gained all the weight back and then some.

Am very fortunate that have a place called Nifty After 50 which is designed for folk in my age range. It's free for me and I was going regularly but in the last few months because of health issues-which was able to use an excuse stopped pretty much. Saw a doctor who firmly believes in exercise even for severely arthritic knees so am back on track. Also my apartment has a great pool which is empty. The doctor told my daughter that this woman is a tough bird so definitely have to get back in shape. emoticon

I woke up way too early this morning: 5:30. I had no reason to be awake and couldn't fall back to sleep, so I got up and went downstairs and made a pot of coffee. Then I made macaroni salad. I use a 16 oz. box of elbows, and use the cheese sauce packet from 1 box of Velveeta shells. I save the shells and use them later. I diced up 1 and a half red bell peppers, about 6 stalks of celery, and one Hatfield ham steak, some ground black pepper, salt, and a couple of shakes of Crystal hot sauce, plus about 4 Tbsp. of red wine vinegar. Packed it all up and put it in the refrigerator. I felt bad. DH said something the other day, "I'm happy to eat whatever you make." and I had kinda dropped the ball about having food in the fridge that he could take to work. The man would live off of cold soup out of a can if I let him - sigh. He texted me from work later today: The macaroni salad is GOOOOOD. Bless his heart. So tonight I sautéed some jumbo hot dogs and got them all nice and browned, and then sliced them up, then poured a large can of Bushes Vegetarian Baked Beans on top of them and heated everything through. Packed that up as well. This way he can just grab and go. I took a nap around 11-12, then got up, got dressed. Had a cup of blueberries and a vanilla yogurt for lunch-that was tasty! Hope you all had a good day today too!

I like Planet Fitness. They really are a "no judgement zone", plus, if you take advantage of their trainers, it can really benefit you. You can make an appointment with a trainer, and they'll interview you to find out what you most want to focus on and what your likes and dislikes are. They'll introduce you to equipment, and show you how to use it, and they'll set up a schedule for you to follow, then meet with you in a couple of weeks to see how you're doing. Well worth the $10 down, $10 a month!

I had been doing really well riding my recumbent bike, and then my back flared up, so I stopped riding it for now, and the back settled down again. I don't want to aggravate it to the point where I have to go to the dr. again.

I'm focusing on eating more fresh fruits and veggies - getting my 5 a day in. Today I had low sodium V8 (2), a half an ear of corn (1), spinach (1), and cherries (1), and a small banana(1) so I'm already at 6, and I'll either have a big salad or soup for dinner, so I'm good! A local store had fresh corn on sale 6 ears for $2. I'm thinking of going to get more, it was so good! Love the fresh produce this time of year!!
