Thank goodness it's not just me!

Here in the UK the Government have bailed the banks out too. The interest rates are lower than ever and yet my credit card interest is through the roof and my mortgage rate hasn't dropped at all. Wonder who is making a profit there then?

Gas and electricity is sky high, ok during the Summer but we'll probably all freeze to death come Winter because we can no longer afford to run the central heating.

Food seems to be even more expensive than ever so i am baking more and growing my own vegetables to help ends meet.

In the UK though we also have the immigration problem of thousands of people pouring into the country with the promise of a home and food and money in their pockets from our benefits system when us natives can get nothing at all if we need it.

The whole world seems a very bleak place at the moment emoticon

I have bigger bones to chew than California's IOU's. I sold my house in NY and moved to NC a year ago, because I was getting buried by taxes, heating and electric bills, etc.. 1 deciding factor on choosing NC was as a teacher NC was begging for teachers. Needless to say I move and WHAM-O! The economy tanks, budgets are cut and instead of HIRING TEACHERS, NC is LAYING THEM OFF. Teaching has always been recession proof. Even during the Great Depression teachers worked, but boy have times changed.

And the government bails out banks that raise our credit card interest rates to the point we either pay our Visa bill or feed our kids. And the big auto companies get bailed out... Who is going to bail me out in a few months when I am totally broke, in debt and unemployed?

And the answer is NO. My mortgage company and utilities companies will NOT take my IOU. They will turn off my service and throw me out though. This is the very first time in my life I have been afraid of what tomorrow WON'T bring. But the bank that holds my mortgage- a Good one mind you, got a bailout for doing bad business.

Don't get me started...

Barbara

i heard on the news this morning that the state of california is giving out iou's to their vendors because the state has no money. how are these vendors going to pay their bills with these iou's? this recession is getting bad but a state like california can get away with giving out iou's. will the mortgage company, electric company, gas company, telephone company & the supermarket take an iou from me?
