I wear a bathing suit+ a skirt over to hide my huge thighs! My swim suit is from sports authority, but I think that Intimacy has really nice swimsuits (they're really expensive but with great stuff that lasts).

I would make it an investment. I have never found a cheap bathing suit that looked good on me. You pay for what you get. Try places like Macy's, Bergners, department stores, etc. Macy's had a TON of cute ones that were on sale for 25% off the last time I walked through there. Opt for tops and bottoms you can mix and match sizes (who is the same size on both???) and tops that fit by bra sizes.

Some brands have material that sort of "sucks" your stomach in, almost like control top. If your stomach is a problem area (like mine), you might try that. There are lots of killer one pieces out now that look just as hot as two pieces if you're uncomfortable with showing your belly. Otherwise, there are many cute tankinis with skirt or short bottoms if you're not comfortable with the bikini bottom (I'm not yet!)

I think the most important thing is just to be comfortable in what you buy or you won't want to wear it.

I'm going on a cruise this summer and really want to bring a bathing suit, but I'm so undecided. I've seen a few that I really like, but will probably end up in shorts and a tank top.

The FOCUS is real!

So this is MY problem.... I'm a 36DD, and I have a short torso, so one piece's are a def. no no and tankinis ride up and never have enough support. yet i cant ever find a bikini big enougg to support me plus my huge gut. So yes I have 5 bikin's that are in my drawer waiting to be put on, but I will not until I'm at least 140.... sigh there's a pool at the gym (inside and out) and I can't go for fear of popping "out" It's not even really about the weight its the boobies...

I hadn't been about to find a swim suit that really fit in well, ever. I am tall so one piece suits would ride up the crouch and pull down the boobs. And I carry a lot of my weight in my belly so tankinnis (sp?) would roll up slowly. I FINALLY found one I really like this year. It is a two piece with a really long top piece. The bottom has a skirt. I don't look great in it, but it fits really good and looks better than anything in a LONG TIME! The top and bottom were not matching sets either. I found the biggest top in the regular sizes and the smallest in the plus size. (I'm in a weird in between area right now)

Just try on lots and don't settle. Think about comfort and it looking better and better as the pounds come off!

I'm at 207 and decided that if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to look. A couple of summers ago (when I was 180is) I bought a bikini - I was living in Vegas and it was HOT! Now I'm living in Houston and it's HOT AND HUMID! I said forget what they think, I'm wearing it!

I have found good prices and high quality at stores like TJMaxx and Ross. I too dislike bathing suit shopping; but some tips that I heard from "professionals" are NOT to eat a big meal before going, make sure you have shaved, and oddly enough, wear a thong....also wear shoes that you would be at the beach with....
Suggest you look for suits that have skirts, support for the "girls", and tummy control. Avoid stripes--that will accent areas that you don't want too.

I hate buying bathing suits! But you just have to try them on. Find one with good material that will hold you in (without fraying after a couple of weeks.) I've had good luck at Kohl's and target without spending a fortune. But right now, my favorite one is a tankini with a tummy control panel and short board shorts. No way ready for a bikini, but it makes me feel good to look decent in a two piece emoticon

I LOVE bathing suits! I own at least 2 dozen of them! Sadly, I live so far from the ocean now. When I travel, I take 5 or 6 so I can always wear a different one when I hit the water.

When I was heavier, I found one at Marshall's that I really liked. I felt good in it and only spent about $20. It had a tummy control panel and that was nice!

I recently bought one... the first in about 4 years. I bought a bikini! YIKES. It was super scary! I went to the beach last weekend and was almost terrified to come out of the van... but I did. I think it was because I bought a pair of board shorts to go with it... It depends on what body part you want to cover most... for me, it is my butt and hips, and no swimsuit will ever cover that for me... even the skirted kind don't do a good job of that.

Imperfection is important. If we were all perfect, then there would be no such thing as growth, and everyone would be extremely boring, which is, paradoxically, not that perfect.-- Dr. Matt

Because we are heavier we need to spend $$$ to get a suit that will look half way decent. The one I wear when we are in FL I think I paid $90 for and even though I still am overweight, I didn't feel bad in it. On the other hand, the $14 suit I bought at KMart is ONLY for hotel pools where there is a lot of chlorine and I'll never see those people again. haha

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW! What a ride!

I think a bathing suit is probably the hardest thing to buy of any piece of clothing. It's hard to cover problem spots, even if you are at a good weight.

Who else here is nervous about buying one???? My sister is wanting to host a pool party essentially and in order to participate like I want to I need to go buy a swimsuit for Elijah and I. Elijah I'm not worried about bc he's 2 but me? I'm over 205lbs and DO NOT look good in a bathing suit (yet *winks*)..

Have you bought a bathing suit that you LOVE?? Where did you get it? Do you have any suggestions for a type that I should look for??

Those questions may sound silly (mainly the last one) but the last time I bought a bathing suit I was 135lbs, anorexic and in high school. Now, I have a good 70lbs more on me and NOT in any place good (stomach, butt, thighs and gut) and that suit was a bikini and that aint happening again! :o)
