Hey ladies,

I absolutely love Janira lingerie. I basically wear shapewear almost every day so it needs to be comfortable. The great thing about their shapewear line is that it doesn't show through your clothes. I probably have about 5 at the moment. The silueta has to be my favorite though!

I'm pretty sure they only started to sell in canada and the US recently, but I found them at http://www.bbasiclingerie.com/

They have free returns so it really works out if you don't know your size.

I LOVE SHAPEWEAR. I wear it daily for comfort, support and to fit better in my clothes. I’ve tried quite a few brands (including Spanx), but so far, Sears has the best undergarments for a decent price. It’s all trial and error really; just keep trying until you find the right garment for you. Oh, and when you find it, buy 3 pairs because it’s hard to find the same brand again.

Shapewear has never worked for me. I could try Spanx in a size ten times my clothes size and it would still not fit in places, too big in some, too small in others. It just doesn't seem to be built for my body type. I tried a few from Target and Walmart, but they were all just uncomfortable, especially in a place as hot as Texas. So I just never wore it.

I like my Target shapewear--the brand that I use the most is called Self-Expressions. I find it comfortable and it has worn extraordinarily well. It is firming but stretchy enough that it doesn't feel constricting.

I pretty much wear a long shaper top every time I work out. I use them for support more than for vanity. I also have a torset top (also from Target, different brand but I can't remember the name) which works well with some dresses.

I think it is different for everyone. No matter what shape or size i've been they never seemed to work for me, either they didn't help, or they were so aggravating the little bit they helped was not worth it, but I have friends that swear by them. So definitely take the dress with you to the store and try it on with them and decide.

Hi Pat!
I just happened to open this thread- how fortunate that I got to see your message!

I don't use shapewear. I purchase a lot of empire-waist items that are longer (if only they were always in style! LOL!)

I also wear shorter dresses with leggings a lot. That style fits my feminine preferences, and makes me feel good. Shapewear doesn't make me feel good.

I'm ready to get into the next phase of my healthy living, and facing those fears like having to deal with the after-effects of being so big. I'm no longer AFRAID of shapewear, so I know I'm making progress.

Good luck to you in finding what works!

I love Spanx. Yes it's expensive but on shapewear, you get what you pay for. I've never had to replace a Spanx piece ever. Cheaper ones rip, pull out of shape.

I love how they smooth me out because I do not like loose clothes. I think they make me look heavier. My clothes are all fitted. It's also smart to go once every year or so to a real bra fitting/foundations store. Most of us, especially after weight loss, are wearing the wrong bra sizes too. Amazing how thin we look when we are properly fitted. Also makes my posture better.

Jocelyn,
I think I have that apron you referred to. It is low on my stomach so only very long shirts hide it. Do you look for a particular kind of shapewear for this problem. Do control briefs support this area? My name is Pat and I would appreciate your feedback

I love SPANX. Yes they are a lot of money, but they hold up, and the legs don't really have a seam that cuts into your leg. I've had other shapewear brands too ... and sometimes if the shapewear is too tight it can be painful, but if you get a size that fits, then you are golden.

Like others have said, your best bet is finding a lingerie store that sells shapewear in your size, and bring your dress and find what works. I went one time to the local place, and realized that my best bet was just a good fitting bra as opposed to some spanx type help.

Anyway, good luck. I hope you find something that works, cause the dress sounds too beautiful to hide away in your closet.

Good luck! That dress sounds pretty! I wish we could see picturessssssssssss! :D HEhehee. Maybe you'll post a blog when you get your shapewear.

I've always been against shapewear, and then at my heaviest bought some squeezy panties briefs. I have a very large apron/overhang. It was excruciating! They were the traditional kind of super squeeze panties, and I would not recommend them. Well, it did compress my apron and create a smooth rounded line from hip to leg, I was having stomach cramping issues because I wore them to a wedding reception. --I guess it's important to keep in mind how long you'll be wearing them.

Everyone raves about Spanx. Since I've been so wobbly after losing weight, I've been re-thinking the idea of banning shapewear, especially since I don't want to have surgery (oh, but that's another topic).

Best of luck!
Jocelyn

I don't have suggestions for brands, but I do know that in the past I've had trouble with them cutting me off in the wrong spot and if I wasn't careful I'd end up with bulges that show when wearing a form fitting dress and made it quite obvious that I was wearing shapewear! Some of them do a great job of squeezing everything in, but what they don't cover is the issue.

If I was to buy a new set, I'd get the highwaisted ones that come up to bra level(or include a bra) and not the ones with the shorts because the seam digs into my legs.

and that dress sounds amazing!

I have been wearing undergarments everyday since I was about 10. Because I am a big girl my momma told me to never go out the house with out it on. My stomach is my worst area on my body. I hate that area with a passion and then the second place I hate the most is the area right under my arms. I have a huge fat roll that hangs out from above and under my bra. I have only wore spanx once. Just recently learned about them and to me they do not work as good as a old fashion girdle. Here where I live we have a place called TinaMarie that specialize in undergarments. Its two ladies that measure you and give you the right undergarment for your needs. I have also went there with the outfit that I need the undergarment to go with and try on the undergarments with the outfit in the store to make sure i get the look i like. If you dont have a store like that where you live try burlington coat factory. There is not people there that will measure you but they do carry a good brand of girdles. I love them. Also have you heard of body magic. it is actually magic for you body. It lifts and sucks you in in all the right places. With this you have to order it. It is pricey but you have alot of options to look at. With these you also get measured and you can focus on the area of your body (tummy) that you would magically want to disappear.

Spanx are really nice but also really pricey. If there's a Soma Intimates store near you I'd highly recommend them. At least for me the sales ladies were extremely nice and helpful and let me bring in my dress and try several things with it and helped me decide which worked best, it even ended up being something from the clearance rack that she suggested!

If the dress is real slim fitting I'd suggest the ones that look like high waisted shorts. That way you don't end up with a line where the shapewear ends; it gets tucked under your bra strap and goes part or all the way down your thighs (depending on the length of the dress/what you're comfortable with). You have all kinds of options where those are concerned, some have compression just in the tummy area, or through the whole garment, or everywhere but the legs. Basically whichever you think is best and comfortable! There are also ones that have straps and come all the way up, but they're a real nightmare if you need to pee in a hurry!

Fashion Bug has shape wear that is much cheaper than Spanx. Their tummy control panties would probably work well. I have one of the tops that controls the sides and upper stomach area, I love it. You can order them online if there isn't one near you.

I normally only wear clothes I'm comfortable in and when I need to dress up I pick something that will flow over my tummy troubles. However, I found a perfect black lace dress with nude color backing that fits like a dream except for my lower tummy apron area. I've never dared to wear such a slim fitting dress and I'm ready to just put this one back in the closet for "one day", but I thought I would try to find some shape wear and give it a go first (I expect no miracles haha!).

Any suggestions for shapewear for lower tummy apron areas? I'm a plus size girl (size 24) if that helps with brand suggestions. I've looked at Spanx, but I'm not sure what type/fit would work the best either.

Thanks :D
