I think rather than toss it out, you could repurpose it. Turn it into a coin jar or something where you store sentimental things. I think drinking out of it is risky.

Silly men.

Toss it out if you haven't already. I had a stainless steel water bottle and I ruined it when it got moldy from juice, the bleach smell never really ended and the water always tasted funny after that. I would have my grown husband by me a new one, to remind him to never use my water bottle for anything ;)

I would try maybe some baking soda and warm water soak?? Or what if you went and bought new matching bottles! Hope you find something to help!

I see where you are coming from with the sentimental value of your bottle.
This is just me and what I would do if the bottle meant that much to me...
Boil a pot of water, as soon as it has made a rolling boil, turn of the heat and plunge in the bottle, with lid off, plunge the lid too. Sanitize that joker. leave it for 60 seconds, use tongs to remove and let air dry open. *If it were me and I had done all of the cleaning you have done and then did the boil sanitizing, I'd use that baby as if nothing had ever happened.*

Google search lysol. It does say not to reuse the bottle that the lysol came in for anything else, but we clean with this stuff, wipe our counters and places that food comes in contact with, so I see no danger in in bottle.

BLEACH! It should get rid of the smell AND bleach in SMALL quantities (like what would be left behind after a good rinsing) is safe to drink. It can actually be used to make water from outdoor sources safe to drink although I don't remember the exact ratio at this point in my life. I wouldn't use straight bleach but a little bit in there along with water and let it sit for a few hours.

I wonder if vinegar would do the trick? Lysol has such a strong smell, I don't know what would take it away! Good luck.

I really wouldn't use it again. I don't know if you can ever get it completely out. I know personally even if it does come out but the smell stayed, I wouldn't be able to drink out of it.

So I've got a kinda funny story...

This past weekend I went on a vacation with my sister, leaving my husband behind with his best friend. Apparently, the night I left, they were making supper, because they're grown and mature men, and got stuff all over the floor. Being men, grown and mature, they had no idea how to mop up the floor but didn't want to call me and admit they made a mess. So they went digging under my sink and found a bottle of lysol. They took the lysol, took my WATER BOTTLE, filled it halfway up with lysol, filled the rest with hot water, put the top back on, and squirted very lysoly water all the floor which they then mopped up with towels. Then of course, because they are men (grown and mature) they left my water bottle, filled with the lysol mixture, sitting on the kitchen counter all weekend.

Which comes to the part where I need your help. I can't get the smell of lemony goodness out of my water bottle! I have scoured it countless times and it still smells of lysol. Normally I'd just give up and get another but this is my friendship bottle, the one I got with my best friend 4 years ago so we'd match. I know it's not a big deal but I really don't want to get rid of it. Anyone have any ideas of how to get the taste/smell out of my bottle?

Thanks. :)
