Way to go Gil and 2B!!

I think LC/Keto is an excellent way to shake your body up and get it to do what it should do.

And how are you feeling Gil? That is even more of an indicator that things are going as they should!!

I saw my lowest weight for a long time on the scale this morning, and I'm sure it's my low-carb choices - it's given me a boost.

It's not that they are against IF - just that they want to make it clear that it is not needed to lose weight. It's said that EVERYONE does IF - from dinner to breakfast.

I prefer a lunch and dinner approach. I eat plenty of food, and I like eating more substantial meals but still getting all my nutrients in without eating more than my body requires.

I think some people have found that IF stops their weight loss, or at least stalls it. So it's very individual, and you have to find what works for you.

emoticon on a rainy Monday. Today I blogged .. about losing TEN pounds ... It is amazing how fast the weight comes off with keto .... And now I have the best nights sleep ever.... a first for me. The veggies I restrict are the starchy tubers .... carrots, potatoes, and anything grown beneath the soil. I was never comfortable eating potatoes, even when much younger, and now after reading so much and listening to videos on the Diet Doctor, I see why. Also always felt like bread was a food off limits to me, as it always went right to my belly, and no gal wants a fat belly. So I do not miss it, or rice or pasta. I am completely satisfied, and no longer think about FOOD all day ... and my next meal LOL.

By the way, are some folks opposed to IF? ... (I did it a few times w/out even realizing I was, as I ate around 5:00 and did not eat until hungry next day..... so 16 hours passed before I did. Happy knowing that. I also really like avocadoes, but guess I will watch the amount since they have a few carbs.

Thanks. Most days I get my last meal (a small one) of the day by about 6 pm, then don't eat again until about 9 am. So, 15 hrs. But it is dependent on my work schedule as I work irregular shifts. But I'm mindful of it - so will never have less than 12 hrs fast overnight. When I'm not working in the morning I can get a 16 hr fast in.

Yay Gill - I'm on both, but tend to use IF much more than they like on the Team Keto board so I straddle the two. You are totally welcome here!!

I also love veggies - and I'm fond of avocadoes and that has lots of (good) carbs in it so I tend to go over when I eat those.

What is your IF schedule like?

Hiya - I've been away visiting Team Keto, but realised that I'm not going to made the grade there, so I'm back.

My aim is low-carb - probably going for a goal of 50-100g a day - which, as a vegan, is realistic. I'm not overweight or diabetic, but do a whole lot better without the regular white carbs.

Also, I feel that a diet that restricts fruit and veg isn't for me either.

I'm good on no snacking, I'm good on intermittent fasting, smaller meals, no sweets.

Congrats on your weight loss!! 6# is excellent!!

Thanks for the goodie---It's been a little over one week into keto--full bore and am happy to say my weight is down 6#. ... (My hubby sees a difference and 1.5" is gone from my waist! One thing that seems to be a benefit is my sleep has never been better!! (And it was a problem big time before keto!) ... Another thing is next month I plan to keep tabs on our grocery bill---as before keto, the bill was always high .... and for two people that is nonsense!! No doubt, our bill will go downward along with pounds and inches! (For that I am SO glad!

Going to get my hair colored and cut this morning so off I go! (highlights)

Yes, I have the Will Cole book too. The two together are a great resource for me.

I'm not aiming to be be totally ketogenic (at least not at the moment) - more easing into it by getting used to making lower carb choices and recipes.

Today I chose to buy a red quinoa protein Ryvita crispbread, rather than oatcakes. They are still too high in carbs for you low carbers, but much lower in carbs and higher in protein than the regular ones. I also chose to have tahini on them with my avocado - it was good.

Good Morning

I stopped snacking and it has really opened my eyes to what I had been doing.
I am trying to space my meals further apart than usual.. I think I am going to see a good weight loss this month.

There has been a lot of talk recently about vegetarian Ketotarian. I know it can be done but not sure how to keep macros on point with eating all those vegetables. I think you just need a lot of thought planning your meals to make it work. I love bacon and butter too much to change my Keto.

Karen have a great night at the casino party.
Goat cheese is good. We discovered it a few months back when our daughter served some with crackers.

That sounds similar to the Ketotarian that Will Cole MD wrote. It seems like there are a lot of different ways to do keto these days!!

I on the other hand had so many carbs (thanks cabbage) for lunch that my dinner consisted of meat only. I really wasn't that hungry anyway, so that was good.

Tonight I'm doing a casino event in a town an hour away from me, so I don't have to cook for my hubby, so I will probably just eat something out of the fridge.

I went to a Farmer's Market yesterday and bought two types of goat cheese. Maybe try some of that!!

I don't want to do a whole month of three meals no snacks - I need the occasional treat. I do No S which is no snacks, no sweets, no seconds from Monday - Friday. I am, however, trying to keep the 'treat/snacks' day to just one of the weekend days, not both! So I could kinda follow the challenge.

Is anyone interested in an April challenge? In Team Keto (I know not everyone is keto here) we are doing a no snack month. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, nothing else. I'm excited about that because I think it's pretty easy to grab a handful of nuts or whatever, even if it is keto.

Should we do that here as well?

Yes, and energy is another thing I wanted to see more of!! .. And funny, but last night I had literally NO desire for popcorn---a habit I had for a long time!!! I was SO full, there was no room for anything!! .. Many years ago, (Around 1999 a large group of at work began the Atkins diet! .. We ordered bars like there was no tomorrow--by the case for the best deal LOL How silly we were!! Everyone of us suffered horrible constipation---ate cheese like a pack of mice--BUT the one good thing was: I USED to go to a Starbucks right by our place of work and get a mocha most every day! I felt I HAD TO HAVE one-haha. After doing the keto program, I completely quit drinking them and to this day have NO desire; in fact they sound awful!!! . And last night I told my hubby when he said, "Maybe we will get to have popcorn again some time??" I said, "Not for me, but any time you want some please have some!" Keto is amazing!!

Thanks and good to know about the salt and magnesium. I'm feeling much better this morning and "finally' slept well---the past three nights were poor. So I feel I am ready to go (and I even notice occasionally a 'rush' feeling like a burst of energy is best I can describe.

Your body is probably trying to get used to not having carbs for instant energy. It has to work harder to utilize fat stores.

Make sure you have enough electrolytes and salt. When you first start keto, you dump a lot of water, and contained in that water is minerals and elements that you need to replenish.

Magnesium - for sure. Salt everything. Some people salt their coffee or water - I can't do that. But I liberally cook with it these days and enjoy the flavor.

Your body should adjust within a few days to a few weeks - it's pretty individual.

Just goes to show.... Not to jump on the bandwagon and act out of zeal. Now that I have them, knowing that ..I will be VERY reluctant to dip into them! .. And 23 g carbs is a lot!!! Sound like a lot of hype and I will steer clear!!

By the way, I am extremely "warm" this afternoon after exercise. Should be cooled off by now--but feel flush. Does this go with ketosis?... Also have headache and recall reading that one can feel like they have mild flu at first until body adjusts. Oh boy!

As maybe a bridge from the Standard American Diet to Keto/Low Carb - maybe.

Here is what I just pulled up for a chocolate peanut butter bar:

250 calories
14 g fat
23 g carbs
12 g fiber
16 grams protein

They say net carbs of 3 grams. How does this sketchy math work?

You take the 23 grams of carbs, eliminate the fiber carbs (12), eliminate the glycerin (8 grams) and then you get 3 net carbs.

But I know people whose blood sugars have SKY ROCKETED with Atkins bars, so it's not a given that your body knows the Atkins math formula.

You would be much better off to eat real food. Nuts, jerky, cheese sticks, etc.

Or just go without eating until you have access to real food. You will not die if you get hungry for a few hours. I usually eat only lunch and dinner, and am pretty hungry when 12 pm rolls around. My sister was sick, and I had to go shopping for stuff for her, bring it to her house, and I didn't even get home until after 2 pm. I was pretty hungry, but just ate when I got home. They are also expensive, and artificial. I think use them up and don't buy more. My two cents.

Edited for grammar.

Yes, thank you and I will have to get used to 'where' to post. I just answered under the intro thread.

I just thought of a question I have .. emoticon Do any of you use the various Keto bars or Atkins bars? I bought some--mainly for when I am out and suddenly feel hungry. (Even if I only have a few bites)

I worked 11-7 last Friday and Saturday night and all I could do was EAT - EAT - EAT - EAT -- LOTS OF St. Patricks day cupcakes and cookies, junk, stopped at McDonalds which I hadn't done for months.... UGH! UGH! UGH! So that stupidity lasted through Monday & Tuesday.... Finally Wed I woke up sane and fasted all day. Ate taco soup and 1 ice cream bar for dinner and then nothing and will probably fast all day today except for some iced tea with Stevia. Insanity is certainly right around the corner in my world.... Scale up today, will have to work off those few pounds AGAIN!
Having a BD party Sun night, with steak and salad, so that should work well.....
Love reading all the posts about fasting...
The older I get,,,, the awfuller! the weight loss is! :)

have a great day everyone!

Funny you should say Dynamic duo Alofa - hubby ate two apple turnovers Monday night and the other two on Tuesday night. He's still eating keto because that's what I'm cooking, but I'm wondering what he's doing when he's out of sight. I agree - you can't force it.

I found a Groupon for another stylist that I'm going to try. Fingers crossed.....

We are going to DH's cousin's house for dinner tonight. They are Italian. We'll see what happens - I'm worried it will be a pasta fest.

Hello everyone!
Stopping in to say Hi, I haven't been as consistant with my Fasts, Im hoovering at 12-14 hrs Minimum.. Low Carb mostly, but I'm grazing to cope with some stress.. Hello Apple Fritter! ughhh haven't eaten that in Years! its one of my moms favorites.. She was on my mind and I had it with some coffee and talked with her! lol.. It didn't sit well with my stomach, and I was feeling off and bloated most of the day! Moving forward! Goal is to hit 14 hrs fast for the weekend..

Karen- Ugghh how annoying is that! I would of got up and walked out too! That stylist lost out on a good customer!! Sounds like you and hubby are the Dynamic Due of Keto!!! My hubby was on board with Low Carb for a quick second!! He is not interested and I'm not pushing it. I Just lead by example is all I can do.. At this point I need to do Better, and hone in my Routines...

emoticon Wishing everyone a Wonderful Weekend ahead~

Yesterday's fasting was harder. I had scheduled a hair appointment on line for the first appointment of the day with a hair stylist I liked. I got there 10 minutes early (for the first appointment) and she was already cutting someone's hair. Okay - 20 minutes later she was done, and she already had someone else in her chair. She said "this is just a hair cut - I'll be right with you" and I got up and left.

I was ready to wait for one extra person, but not two. It upset me and I think I don't want to spend my time and money with someone who is so disrespectful of my time, when I was the only one on the schedule and she took two walk ins in front of me.

I'm not a confrontive person, so now I just have to go find another hair stylist. Sigh. I felt like eating all night long. Or drinking a glass of wine, which I didn't.

Well done! Hope your fasting day went well.

One of the side-effects of this way of eating is that fewer meals means I can buy better quality food!

That sounds lovely!! I had a nice early dinner yesterday - then had a small seaweed snack around 8. Then I shut the kitchen. It's been a long time since I've eaten after dinner, but I felt the need to yesterday since today is my weekly fasting day.

3 of 7 for Lent. So far, so good.

Yesterday I had lunch out with a friend - it wasn't low carb, but it was a healthy meal. We also enjoyed a slice of vegan cake between us. Our meal ended at 2.45pm, and I didn't eat again until 7pm when I just had a few grapes

I am moving more and more towards having basically two meals a day, with a light snack in the evening. I'm currently planning that the last meal of the day will be fruit.

I went out for dinner with my husband last night. He decided to get a potato since he said some carbs were better for his digestion (regularity) system. I have been more regular than ever since I went keto - so there are definitely different strokes for different folks.

I like doing different recipes, but tend to have a flavor profile and preference range. So I usually stick to that. Your book sounds interesting!

"monotanizing" is an interesting subject. I have a book called "Refuse to Regain" by Dr Barbara Berkeley - one of her 10 hard rules is to eat from a restricted diet - for the same reasons - you can't stray too far. It takes the emotion out of the eating - I know that the excitement of a new recipe is quite a thing for me.

This weekend, I'm going to take some time to go through my cookery books and find the recipes that I've marked as being 'really good!'

Over time, I'll adapt/replace them with lower-carb alternatives.

I'm getting there.

Lois I have an air fryer, but have to admit I don't use it much. Since I'm keto, I like cooking things in fat. However, when I do use it, I like very much that it doesn't smell like oil, which I have always hated. And then put your butter/oil on after it's already crispy.

You don't need an expensive one - mine was about $60 I think.

Any hints on an air fryer? Like, not like? and what you use it for.
Since I haven't been at this long, I am sticking to my 22-2 for now.
I'm still working part time -- have to work 2 eight hour night shifts this weekend and that rather messes me up. But hopefully since I've been pretty consistent with fasting, I'll be able to fast while at work.

I did the egg fast when I had fallen off the "wagon" and it got me back on board with a loss of appetite!

have a good day everyone!

Hi Christina - congrats on your new lifestyle!!

The egg fast is essentially this: you eat 6 eggs a day, along with 6 tbsp. of butter (fry your eggs in butter) and up to 4 oz of cheese as well.

The benefits are just monotonizing your food so you don't stray, as far as I can see.

I've heard you can do a beef fast too (like ground hamburger, fried in butter, with cheese).

I love eggs. I tried the egg fast for 3 days, and was sick of them by day 2. I'd rather just stick with keto.

Hi to all. I'm new to this team but have been IF 16/8 or 18/6 for the past 2 months, and keto when I do eat. I see a lot of talk about an egg fast. Can someone please explain to me the benefits to an egg fast? I realize it would be very low carb, but what would be the difference in mixing in fish or some other protein in place of eggs for a meal? Thanks and good luck to all.

RETURN I do not take exogenous ketones. I bought a can of collagen and one of MCT powder, and they were both flavored (vanilla and salted caramel) and I thought I'd use them as sort of a flavor in coffee, but I prefer my coffee black, so only seldom do I put a scoop in. I will use them up however, and not rebuy. I did not find any difference, and I prefer to eat my food/calories. They are super expensive too.

A daily window of 22-23 may stall you at some point. Dr. Fung and Megan Ramos (from IDM) say to mix it up every once in awhile. I have found it difficult to only eat in that small of a window, so I prefer to do a few longer fasts and then just have two meals the rest of the time. Spread out over 6 hours or so. So 1-7 or 1-6 is my usual window; then a straight up 24 fast or 48 hour fast. The 48 usually turns into a 44 because I break it around 2 pm the day I eat again. Sigh. Still trying to figure it out.

Anxious to hear about your using your air fryer. I have one and haven't used it lately. Can you heat up frozen meat. I buy leg quarters and bake them all, and then freeze them individually. Then I have my meat portion for a meal. Never thought of heating up in air fryer... have used microwave, but I use it as little as possible.

24 and 48... that sounds doable, but so far, I'm doing daily 22-23-- with eating window of 1-2 hours.

Does anyone here take exogenous ketones? What is your experience?

have a good week everyone!

Alofa sorry you are sick! But amazing that you are fasting through it. I hope it helps.

Interested to hear your thoughts on The Carb Sensitivity Program. I love reading those kinds of books. I just got The Longevity Solution by Dr. Fung and Dr. Dinacolantonio. All "all about air fryers" since I have one and use it rarely.

Upcoming events - April - company coming weekend of the 6th - girls weekend out of town the 13th.

Both events I can manage without going off track.

Hello Team!
Crawling out of my cave with Vertigo in February and Flu this past week.. Fasting was easier this week because Ive been sick emoticon I just picked up a new book from the Library. The Carb Sensitivity Program, by Dr. Natasha Turner... Shes a Naturopathic Doctor. Its packed with great info and recipes I'm excited to dive into this book.. I finished whole30 and as I suspected too much sugar was causing a lot of my eczema flares, and increasing my Veggies has made my rash disappear. Im feeling back to normal despite the Flu which is on its way out. Metabolic Monday has been easy for me to maintain even while sick. **I fast every Monday***.. Stop eating at 3pm on Sunday.. Great to catch up on how everyone is doing!

emoticon Karen- Getting ready for a wedding is always a good motivation!! You've been doing great with all your Fasting Routines!!

I think the most important thing is changing it up to fit your life. Confuse the body!!

I skip IF if the situation warrants it - then go right back to it.
