Welcome Gwen and MOUSE!!

Everybody's journey is different. What works for one may not work for another, so this forum is a great place to see what is working and (not working) for everyone.

I have sweetener (stevia) in my tea while fasting (towards the end - I usually try for 18 hrs). I save my coffee for after I break my fast because I use cream and cashew milk in it. I think there is a general rule that anything over 50 calories breaks your fast... some no calorie sweeteners can mess you up too... I think it's a personal thing, as in you have to experiment and see if dropping it or as already suggested, going to black coffee (if you really need that caffeine!) does actually make a positive difference. If there's no difference, then you know it's not your coffee.

Welcome Traci!

I am totally keto - so on the way far spectrum of low carb, but I believe there is room for a lot of choices.

You might check out the DDD (Delay Don't Deny) Facebook group. They advocate clean fasting, but any kind of eating in your window.

I try and get an 18 hour IF in every day. More if possible but I don't stress it. The main thing is to change it up.

Personally I do believe cream and sweetener interrupt your fast, but if you can't do it, it's better than half and half and sugar.

You might try and challenge yourself to do black coffee for 2 weeks straight and see how you feel. I've heard it's an amazing change. I personally love black coffee, so this was not an issue for me, but it is supposed to make a difference.

Good Morning and welcome!

Most people here are lowcarb or at least attempting to be lowcarb as far as I know. If you are a carb addict, like I am, it is totally necessary to limit carbs. If I have too many carbs I will get the cravings back. What kind of sweetener are you using in your coffee and what kind of creamer? I am not a coffee drinker and the only sweetener I use is powdered stevia leaf (nothing added). Some people can tolerate some of the more natural sweeteners but I can't -- the sugar alcohols do not agree with me.

Hi all,
I've been doing intermittent fasting for almost a year with minimal success. I'm total carb addict, is everyone here doing low carb? I usually just count my calories. I've noticed other benefits but the scale has hardly moved. Now I'm incorporating walking, I aim for a 20 mins. walk during the week, hopefully that will help because prior I've pretty much been sedentary. I have 1 cup of coffee with sweetener and creamer in the morning. I don't have anything else. I don't know if that is enough to throw everything good I'm doing under the bus or not. But I have to have it, and I can't stand the taste of black coffee. Anyone else doing a dirty fast so to speak?
