Ok - I followed alexgirl's advice and I wrote a blog basically on is it exercise or not. My very first blog! Boy was I nervous after doing so wondering how it will be received. Oh well, it is what it is eh? Today, I've just gotten back from the YMCA where I did 80 mins of Aquafit. Then I filled my watering can 4 times from our rain barrel and lugged it all over the yard watering all my planters and the small vegetable garden we have. Both were definitely exercise, believe me.

It said on the radio yesterday that tomorrow we can expect temperatures of 38 - ykes, we aren't used to that here. It will probably be humid to boot and too hot and difficult to breath out there for most of us with heart conditions. If you too are expecting such hot and humid weather, take care. Not sure what 38 C is in F but 20 is approx. 72 and 30 approx 80 so around 90, I guess.

I recently bought "The Spark Solution" and in the introductory chapters, on page 49. there is a section on "Off the Couch and Out of Bed." It says:
"Even if you are someone who can exercise 1 hr every day without experiencing burnout or injury, 23 hrs remain. How are you spending them? Each day we ask you to estimate and track the # of mins you spend on your feet or doing something other than sleeping, eating, or sitting. Grocery shopping (pushing a full cart, walking around the store, and hauling bags to and from the car) counts. So, do the trips you make to the copier, the water cooler, and the restroom a few times a day. And the 10 mins you spent having a tickle with your toddler -- that counts too. You will burn thousands of extra cals over time, and it keeps your metabolism from hibernating between workouts. By setting a goal for these NEA|T mins each day - what is referred to as non-exercise activity thermogenesis -- you'll find ways to get moving which will not only burn calories and boost metabolism but also give you more energy and motivation to keep moving."
From that, I take it that such activities and the calories they burn are important and for those of us who have any physical limitations and are unable to workout in a gym they are doubly important and worth counting as exercise. For myself, I only count those activities which I feel caused me to work to some degree and required some effort (housekeeping if either vigorous or for a long period of time), gardening (if vigorous or for a long period of time), stair climbing (if enough times in the day to add up to at least 15 mins. spent doing it), babysitting (for those times when I actively play with my grandson at some activity requiring physical exertion), and shopping (if walking across parking lots and around stores for up to or more than 30 mins). with my heart condition, it is a miracle I can once again do those things at all and when I do, I feel the burn.

way to go section1ron and linjarvis I usually do a weight circuit three times a week at the gym .I used to walk every day but way to hot. My daughter just bought a membership to the gym I go to and she wants to go every day, that is the until she goes to college that should help. whatever we do we just need to keep at it

I try to do 30 minutes on my Stationary bike and 30 Minutes of walking (Indoors if weather poor and outdoors if weather is good) 5-6 times a week.

In May i posted this :I started to do E A active 2 on the cardio start 4 weeks ago went thru it once on easy and doing it again on easy
Now it is Sept and i have to say that program was to much again for me but i have been doing 30 on the Wii and I try other games for the Kentic and we walk alot

I'm trying to walk 30-40 minutes 5 times a week on my treadmill. As soon as the weather stops being over 90 degrees, I look forward to getting outside.

Walk/jog/run 2-3 hours daily. Usually cover 60 - 80 miles per week.
3x/week at gym for ST with trainer
4x/week at home for "lite ST" on my own..

.. and since my wrists and shoulders and neck are playing havoc with my hands, I'm also doing physical therapy 2x/week with a therapist and everyday at home.

I walk 30-60 mins a day @ 3.2

3 days a week I do light upper body work..just enough to keep the muscle I have.. I would do lower body, but I had a hernia fixed in 2006, and it makes me nervous, so walking will be my leg workouts
