Picture of my window with the samplers is in my photo album. I'm walking today. Supposed to get to 80F today. Almost finished with the hooking part of my pieces I've been working on. Working at the gallery tires me out. Think it has to do with the building is just so cold!!! I spent all morning going up and down a ladder hanging and rehanging paintings and then hubby came and I helped him hang a marker board in back room which is even colder than the front gallery. It was colder than outside...then spent the after noon reading and freezing. It made my joints ache so didn't sleep well last night. Going to try to walk and stretch my aches out today and finish the hooking.

Barbara - Those samplers framed in the window sounds beautiful! Do you have any pics of it?

Didn't do any exercise yesterday as I am fighting this cold. I am hoping rest and liquids will help me kick it. I did get some stitching in and my piece is coming along quite nicely!

Have a great day everyone!

Irene a couple of years ago I did 6 different vintage looking samplers that were small enough to fit in a 6 pane window that had been given to me. The window was an old wooden one that had many coats of white paint..I had hubby sand down but left shabby chic and then mounted the samplers behind the panes. It hangs over my bed. I am now wanting to do some tiny designs and put in a type-setter's tray. This is an antique tray that print shops used to use to set their metal type in. So the compartments are small.

Today was my work day at the gallery so will chat more tomorrow.

Rebecka don't feel bad, my effort at cleaning went by the way side...but will get back to it hopefully by next week. Today we are going to the plant nursery to see if they have a Stanley plum and tomorrow is my day to volunteer at the gallery. Saturday we meet my SIL which I'm so worried about. Please keep her in your prayers. She has survived breast cancer a few years ago and had a bad sinus infection this winter and a bump came up near her ear they thought was her lymph node but now they are going to do a needle biopsy tomorrow. Then another bump came up on her side and she said it was sore. She has sworn me to secrecy so I can tell hubby which is her brother. We don't keep secrets from one another but I have decided not to tell him to over worry him until she finds out results of the biopsy. We will meet her Saturday and doubt she will have results back by then..

Off to town now.

I had a great workkout yesterday. One where it makes your muscles tingle all over. I also got in a good amount of stitching as well but no spring cleaning here. Unfortunately, it feels like my cold is coming back for round two so I think I will be having a quiet day today.

Have a great day everyone!

Here in the US there are very few individually owned craft shops anymore but we have the big chain stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels and JoAnns. Michaels does not sell fabric and the other 2 carry the cheaper flosses and cross stitch kits. The fabric in some of the big chains are not a big selection either. We do still have some quilt shops that carry nicer and more variety of fabric but it is so expensive to buy fabric in most of them. About the only floss you can find in any store are DMC and as for finding good linen to stitch on...well it is just better for us to order online too. Another thing where I live (in the south) the fabric stores do not carry wool fabric. I work a lot with wool fabric cutting for my hooked rugs and penny rugs. So I have to order it online. Handdyed wool fabric is very expensive to even order online so now I dye my own. I buy white wool by the bolt and can go through a bolt in a year. Right now I need to buy a bolt of my rug backing I hook on..So it just isn't cheap anywhere to buy crafting materials not matter what you do.

Have not even made a dent in the laundry room..Think this is going to take longer for me to attempt. Today I'm 62 so decided to treat myself to just hooking and walking.outside. I already had a massage a couple of weeks ago and also got a new kitchenaid food processor but we will go out to eat on Saturday with the SIL. So that will be a treat for me. Off to finish tracking now.

It seems to be that time of year to clean! Yesterday I took down all the glassware from the tops of my cupboards and washed them and put them back. Now, when the sun shines in they will sparkle! Also deep cleaned the dishwasher and the coffeemaker.

Irene, that is sad that there aren't any little shops around your area any more. We have one quilting shop here in our little town and a few in the city which is 30 minutes away. I just love browsing and seeing all the colorful and pretty cloth even though I don't quilt - yet. Maybe at some point in the future when I have more time emoticon

I did get some stitching done yesterday as well. I love seeing the progress I am making each day on it. Also, my 'stitching chair' faces the wall where I want to put this piece so the bare wall motivates me to keep at it.

Have a great day everyone!

I did a little spring cleaning yesterday. I cleaned the glass in my oven door, I needed something to put the stress and worry into so I scrubbed and prayed and scrubbed. Now I want to clean the bottom of the oven too, but that my have to wait until next week.

I did get some stitching in this week. Yesterday morning I was stitching away thinking I was doing good only to realize I was using the wrong color and had to rip it out. Two of the symbols on my chart are flip flopped triangles and I was sewing the wrong color. So after I ripped it out, I put it away for the morning and then last night while watching the Biggest Loser I got it back out and made progress. I was able to stitch this morning too before the kids got up. They are not quite adjusted to Daylight Savings time yet so they slept a little later and I got to stitch a little longer. I can actually see a wolf's head forming so I feel like I am getting somewhere.

We had an interesting craft session yesterday. Our group meets at the local coffee shop. We were all crafting and talking when a lady on the next tale asked about our group. She was visiting from Australia, she was a quilter so wanted to know where she could buy quilting materials locally.? Nowhere really ! we all admitted we mainly bought supplies on line now. It's sad really but the small individual craft shops are few in number now. I think in some areas in USA there are still craft shops? Must do my chores so I can get on with my craft work ! Irene

I feel like a slacker; so many of you cleaning, not just on this team, either. I don't really do a lot of 'spring cleaning'. I did do a little dusting yesterday.

I am really looking forward to this challenge. I try to take part in at least one team's challenge other than the one that I lead. Not only are they great motivators, but they give us a chance to get to know one another a little better.

Hope everyone has a great week. It's supposed to warm up quite a bit here so our snow isn't going to last very long. I didn't walk this morning because of the time change and the snow. Stumbling through the snow in the dark just didn't really sound like much fun. Maybe tomorrow I'll change my schedule and just wait a bit to walk until the sun peeks out. I could do it after work, but after being on my feet all day, I don't really want to walk anymore.

Cleaning for me this time of year is just a given. I just want a nice clean smelling house after winter. Have started on the laundry room. And still hooking on my rug. Temps are cooler here today but sunny and supposed to warm up this week. Busy week ahead too. I volunteer at the gallery on Thursday. Tomorrow is my birthday but don't have anything planned. I already got a massage for my BD a week or so ago. Also go new kitchen aid food processor so have been blest. Saturday we are meeting hubby's sister in the big town. Probably will go out to eat then with them. For m6y 5% challenge team this week we are doing 10 minutes of stretching. I love this challenge this week.

I think it was this team that was starting up a challenge and when looking at it and with already doing the 5% challenge, I just don't have the time for it all..I've learned over the years to let some things go and do the things that matter and that I enjoy. With warmer weather I will be outside more so don't want to spend all my time here on SP.. emoticon

You are inspiring me on this team , I made a start today on some extra cleaning and sorting out . Mainly in my clothes storage area. I was ruthless and threw a few items out. I found things I had forgotten I had, and the ironing pile iis bigger now as I put creased clothing in it.
Now I can go to my craft group this afternoon with a clear concensience Irene

Hi everyone,

I woke up to snow this morning. I am not happy about that. I am so done with winter. I did get a nice walk in yesterday though. When I weighed in I was down 2 lbs. this week so I am happy with that. I also got in an hour of stitching yesterday.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Alana how fun to get things in your house in order. We have totally remodeled our entire house and was so worth it.
I've started my spring cleaning. I take my time with it now so that it doesn't tire me out too much. I got the refrigerator sparkling yesterday and starting on the laundry room today. It may take me several days for it and then on to the pantry and then my closet.

Still hooking my rug.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. We have been redoing our living room and yesterday we finally got our new area rug so we put that in. As well, the chairs, which were getting redone, were finished as well. With those two new additions we were able to also get some of those little finishing touches done as well, like pictures on the wall. It's nice to see it all beginning to come together.

I am still fighting a cold but stayed on track for eating and did get outside for a walk. Can't wait until I am feeling better.

Have a great day!

Decided to start my spring cleaning today and started with the refrigerator. I will tackle the laundry room in the next few days. Leaving my closet and studio for last. Still hooking on my crow rug. Want to start a spring themed rug after this one.

Made a trip to the city to Hobby Lobby. Our gallery is needing candles to sell so thought I might could make some so picked up soy wax and fixings...going to do some in dollar store cups. About 3/4 finished with my rug.

I like to stitch and listen to TV too. I live alone so the tv is on mostly for company any way. I am about a 1/4 of the way done on my 2nd graduation piece. Have an extra week as our graduation isn't until the 2 of June.

Alana - I am ready to start book 4 of the Gods and Kings. Every time I go to the library to get it, it has been checked out. So I need to put it on reserve. I have really liked what I have read of it so far. My hubby even picked up one of them was reading it and was a little bummed he didn't have time to read the whole book. Maybe this summer when we go on vacation I'll look into getting the audio book for him.

I stitch while I watch tv too and I have even been known to stitch while my hubby drives on long road trips although I have to be careful so I don't get carsick doing that. My mom always stitched while watching tv and I guess that is where I probably picked it up from. If I just sit and watch tv, I'll fall asleep so it is better to get a few stitches in.

Vonblackbird – That is a good idea – stitching & watching TV. When the kids were younger I would stitch while they played video games.

After waking up with a cold and a long day of shopping in the city I definately felt more like crawling into bed than doing anything. I did, however, do a little bit of stitching because I didn't want to break my streak!

I can't stitch and read at the same time but do stitch in front of the TV. With raising 3 boys I never had time to just sit and watch TV so wound up listening more than watching from other room so now when I stitch I listen more than watch too. I'd much rather stitch than watch TV or to read more than watch movies..But really want to see that movie Anna Karenia. Off to continue hooking after reading emails. emoticon

Canyasmom – I read that series by Lynn Austin a few months ago. I couldn’t put it down it was such a good series. It’s definitely one of my favorites emoticon

Vonblackbird – I read Anna Karenina just before the movie came out. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed the book. We did go see the movie and I am definitely glad I read the book first. I wondered how they would capture all of what the book held into a movie but I think they did a pretty good job – although I am sure if you hadn’t read the book the movie might be a mite confusing.

I definately wish I could stitch and read at the same time! I did get some stitching done yesterday. I also got in my walking and strength training and tracked all my food.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I got on a Jane Austin kick trying to read her books but find them awfully hard to muddle through them. It seems it takes forever to finally get to the plot of her books. I did read Anna Karina too and saw the movie came out but you know not one movie theater in my state showed it..so will hopefully try to catch it on pay per view. Besides the Christian fiction I love historical fictions a lot. Some of the contemporary fiction today is just so awful...But Amazon offers so many free ones that I can always find something to read.

Still working on my rug. Have started on my 4th and last pumpkin and then will do the leaves and vines and flowers and then will do the background. I left a good 3 inches of border around the background to use up some of the left over wool in the colors I'm using...great way to make a good border really.

Headed to town in a few minutes for milk and some meds.

The projects you ladies are working on sound great. I wish I stitched faster, but I don't so I just keep going slow and steady.

I love to read as well and in the last year or so got into reading Christian fiction so I am going to look into the books you recommended. I have been working my way through Lynn Austin's Gods and Kings series and that one is really good. I have a few other Christian authors that I really like and about a bazillion authors to try since Amazon has the free books for my Kindle app. Oh, if I were talented enough to be able to read and cross stitch at the same time, then I could kill two birds with one stone. LOL!

VONBLACKBIRD - I love 'stories' too even if they aren't 'real.' If you haven't already, I would recommend Hadessa, Sarah and Rebeckah. I can't remember the authors of Sarah and Rebeckah, but Hadessa is by Tommy Tenney. They are all three 'fiction' stories based on Biblical characters and I loved reading them. Also there is a series about Leah, Rachel and Jacob based in Scotland / Ireland. The one about Rachel is called Rose and I think the one about Jacob is Jamie, but I can't remember what the other one is.

Tinadee can't wait to see your primitive stitching. I love primitive things. My house is kind of primitive country cabin style. All I'm working on is a new crow rug. Have the crow and 2 pumpkins hooked now. Off to track now.

Rebecka I lost the inches too before the weight and seems older I get the harder it is to lose weight. O and think we are kin for sure. I love watching the history channel and reading about the holocaust as well. I think it has something to do with the fact that way down my geneology line on my mother's side we had a Jewish musician. My grandfather and grandmother and her parents all immigrated to the USA before WW2 and my grandfather really looked Jewish. I've also made a trip to Israel with a side trip to Jordan (Petra) so seems I've always been fascinated with anything to do with all that. I love reading about how the Jewish people had to fight to reclaim their land after WW2. Also on Kindle I like reading historical fiction based on the Bible. I just read one about Jesus's birth and growing up. It was fiction mind you but sometimes it brings the Bible to life for me. I read one once on Job which was one of the best Bible fictions I've read.

Well DIL is coming out in a little while..got some things for the gift basket Miss Molly's preschool class is doing with a tea party theme..Have a wonderful Sunday.

I just wanted to drop in and say hello. I have been MIA for awhile as Christmas and then Living Room renos took over my life. However, things are settling back down (I hope). I have started a new x-stitch. It is a floral sampler to hang on the wall in my redone living room so I am motivated to get it done! The snowstorm happening outside my window today and the fire in the fireplace makes a perfect day for stitching!

Have a great day everyone!

I'm addicted to my Kindle app too and I've recently gotten on this roll with books and documentaries on the holocaust. I find it so fascinating that you can find almost two opposite ends of humanity in one place and time. Those that were so cruel and horrible versus those that were so strong to endure such things and survivors that went on to have children and great lives afterward. Although it is a tad disturbing I find it so inspiring at the same time.

So far doing good with the changes. I had a couple bad weeks recently, but I learned a couple things and then just tried to ride out the storm. This week was much better and I think I'm gonna wait a little while for the next change to give my body a little time to catch up.
.
I've also been noticing a change in the way my clothes fit and how my body feels in general, but I told myself not to get my hopes up or to get upset if I didn't actually loose weight. I got on the scale and lost 5lb. I'm so excited. That's the most I've lost at one time since I've been on Spark.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

I have the nook app too and like you there are very few free books with it. I have only bought 3 books from Kindle and have over 300 books in my app so you can see the difference in finding free ones from Amazon. I like thrift store books but mainly go to thrift stores to buy wool clothing to do my rug hooking with. I've started a new rug now and finished the days of the week towels (7). Went to one of the son's house yesterday to help plant potatoes and to plan our family trip for July. Today we are going back out there to eat boiled crayfish.

I have a Nook and just love it, but also hit the second hand bookstores whenever possible. I haven't found a lot of free Nook books that caught my eye, but my sis has a Kindle and is determined never to buy a book for it.
Got some cross stitch done every day this week, I think. Dragging myself away from the computer a little earlier in the evening.

I used to read in the tub too but haven't in some time. I usually reserve my reading at bedtime.

Been over to the city today to do a little shopping. Got a good massage yesterday and really considering doing this every month. I need a hair cut but really want to wait. I bought an external harddrive and a new kitchenaid food processor today. I was so surprised as my old kitchen aid is really heavy and this one is so light weight so hope it holds up as well as my old one did.

Tomorrow we are going to the son's house to till up and help him plant potatoes and then back over there on Saturday to eat crawfish. So going to be another busy few days.

I have an ipad and admit I've been enjoying reading on it more than I thought. Tat said, the kids use it (some times for homework) and I can't take the ipad into the tub with me, so I am still a library addict!

I have an Acer tablet and have the kindle app and just love reading books this way and Amazon has so many free books that I've not had to buy many. I do limit my time on it to evening hours. I usually take my bath around 8:30 or 9pm and then go crawl in bed and read until I get sleepy enough and usually that is around 10 or 11pm. I have taken it with me when I know I'm going to have wait times but really prefer to just read evenings and this way my day is not consumed by it.

Started a new rug.

I don't know how some used my account, but I didn't post that last post.

I am totally addicted to my Kindle app too. I love reading and it is easy to get caught up in it.

Sounds like everyone is busy and looking forward to spring. I sure hope our spring is wetter than last. We've gotten some snow in the last couple weeks but not nearly enough to make up for last year.

I haven't gotten much cross stitch done and haven't touched the quilt for quite awhile. Too much time on the computer.

Hope everyone has a great week!

LLREED, Thank you so much for your condolences about my cat. I have some of the same experiences too. She and I use to 'share' an egg sandwich in the morning. She didn't like the egg or the crust, just the soft part of the bread. And she would 'sneak' past my husband so she could sit with me and then tuck herself in so he couldn't 'get' to her. Pets are so funny! And if it weren't for the two cuddly dogs I have it would be almost unbearable.

We cleaned up some more on the garden. I cut back my rosemary very harshly so hoping it doesn't die. It ws so matted and woody. If it does ok, and starts to put back out then I will trim the other side. but it had gotten so big that it was in our electric fence so it was a "have-to" issue. The asparagus bed is open now and in a week or 2 will start looking for spears.

We had light dusting of snow earlier this morning but now just rain. I hope it stays this way and no snow, ice or sleet like predicted. I don't do well with the slick stuff. Still working on a penny rug.

We are supposed to get some snow from the system moving across the US this week too. I am struggling with all the gray and cold, it leaves me so unmotivated, but I am going to keep pushing through. We were just planning out what to plant in our garden the other day too and it is the time of year I start dreaming of fresh tomatoes. I am ready for winter to break and to start getting warmer temps and more sunshine. Yesterday was brutally cold and today doesn't promise to be much warmer. Guess it is a good day to try and find time to curl under a blanket and sew.
