36, it's hereditary so while I've been taking HBP pills for nearly 10 years, I have no qualms with them, it's only if I get to a maintenance weight in the 120s that I will strongly consider asking my doctor to take me off the pills. I have no problem being compliant with the medication. This isn't a medical issue that bothers me physically or mentally. Now, my other chronic condition is a whole 'nother matter and one that is a novel worth of a response...moving on!! (feel free to check out my SP teams if you really have to know what I'm referring to, I'm not hiding anything, it's just the nature of the condition and sometimes, it's actually quite boring.) emoticon

I was diagnosed at 29, and then finally started taking it when I was 31.

Now I'm 34, and really hoping that by 35 I will reach my weight loss goal and give getting off the medication a good shot.

I was either 51 or 52, can't exactly remember. I've managed to keep on track with just 1 pill a day, and hoping that losing weight and moving more might mean I'll get off that. However, my mom is not overweight and is quite active and needs I think 3 meds to keep hers in control, so I'm hoping I can overcome the hereditary factor I have as well.

I was just diagnosed recently about 2 months ago, just before turning 34. Before that I was always at a pre-hypertension level.

In my mid-40's and have been on meds since then. I'm now 71. The meds keep it under control and have been able to lower the dosage since losing about 25 pounds over the last several years.

I was 23 when I was diagnosed and put on medication. My father was diagnosed in his teens, my mom when she was in her 20's, and my aunt when she was 16.

I was 41 yrs old when I had to give in to medication to control HBP. It was after I had my second child at age 40. It is trial and error to find the right combination of meds that work for you. Been on meds for 12 years now hoping that my weight loss journey is successful and lowers my pressure. My goal this year is to be able to stop the meds. I recently learned that birth control pills can elevate your pressure also. My 19 yr old daughter has been dealing with high readings every since she started taking birth controll pills to regulate her cycle.

Diagnosed recently, at 33 - still trying to determine meds.

And I agree with several other posters, THANKS for this post, it's a little less scary to see I'm not the only one diagnosed with it while still fairly young.

I guess what is still hard is that I've NEVER had a high reading, and then I went in to the doctor because I'd been nauseous for a week. The said I had a UTI and my blood pressure was really high (180/120). Put on meds for the UTI, yet my blood pressure never came down enough. Monitoring it for a few weeks before going on meds it ranged from about 140s/90s to even as high as 170/110s - so not just slightly elevated.

I'm still learning what I should and shouldn't eat and trying to find a way to overcome the fatigue and get to the gym. I still have hopes that eating healthier, exercising more, and losing 30-ish pound will lead to me getting off the meds ... but at the same time I wonder if my numbers are high enough to signify that lifestyle changes won't be enough. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

If you think you can or you can't, you are right.

If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you're not really hungry.

I have been dealing with high blood pressure on and off since I was 21 and I am now 24 but I didn't start medicine until it got pretty bad almost a year ago and then this February I had to begin taking a second medicine. At least previously my weight impacted my blood pressure a lot. The heavier I am the higher my number is. I also have a problem with my blood pressure raising because of panic or just walking into the doctors office. This being said I have had readings that would be considered low but since I have to be calm, the doctors only see this occasionally.

I was diagnosed with HBP when I was 20...but since I had just gotten married (the first time) the Dr let it slide but a few months later...at age 21...he put me on a couple of different pills. Now...im almost 44 and I'm on 4 different meds (total of 6 pills/day). I'm hoping this time I can get some weight off and get it down...I soooo wish I didn't have to take pills!! I wanna be that person that gets to say that I don't have HBP anymore!!

Instead of giving myself reasons that I can't, I'm giving myself reasons I CAN!!

62. Went back a couple of months later and it was normal. I found two supplements to try first before I would take the BP meds and they brought pressure to normal.....for now.

a few weeks ago!! I am 42 and it was a total shock!! I am not very overweight (currently losing 10 lbs I gained with a move across the country!), I run regularly, eat healthy, and it was sooo not expected. Apparently it runs in my Mother's family though and so my only option is medication. Even my doctor was shocked! emoticon

I was diagnosed when I was 40 - idiopathic HBP - when my systolic was 13 but my diastolic had hit 11. I've been on medication eversince. It must have been due to extreme emotional stress I guess, since that was the time prior to my divorce.

Dec. 11 at age 33. I haven't even finished my first bottle of meds yet. I've had high bp since I had my daughter 5 years ago, but docs always brushed it off. It's amazing how even drs don't want to diagnose you because you are young. I ended up in the ER with a BP of 194/106. Now I'm running about 136/89, so not too bad. I'm hoping to make enough lifestyle changes to get off of meds.

Have had on and off HPB for years. I've been on meds since I turned about 45 and I'm now 58. Just changed to a different one. I hate the medication. It makes me dizzy, lethargic, etc. but I continue to take it. Hoping weight loss will help!
