Made my goals today -- Church, Y classes, then Mother's. There is a little family of wrens I've been watching grow. I almost ruined everything a little over a week ago, when I picked up the galvanized garbage can from Mother's garden area near the house. It was filled with odds and ends like scraps of netting, stakes, and on top of all this a stacked group of about 3 black plastic flower pots. I had carried the garbage can up the hill and was poised to take things out of it to finish off our dump load. When I picked up the stack of flower pots I noticed the nest in it with 2 babies hatched and several eggs unhatched. Made me so sick I had disrupted it. I carefully carried the garbage can back down the hill and tried to position it just right, as well as put the flower pots back in as I remembered they had been positioned. We kept an eye on it while we worked, and before we left that day we startled the mom on one of our trips down to check on it. She flew out, and that made me happy. So every time we go we check on their progress. They were pretty big today -- cute little stripes on the side of their heads. Seems like they ought to be out of there soon.

No jokes played on me today, but I am thinking it is time to get serious about cleaning my own environment. It has gotten out of hand.

Today was one of those days where I couldn't really get started into any one project...just hopped around the house and did a bit here and there on some of the many piles of "stuff" from my Mom's.

I've gotten into a big box of my Dad's that consists mainly of photos, memories, etc from his side of the family. As he was an only child, he had everything from his mom and dad (my grandparents). I've been going through photos of his cousins he lived next door to in the 30's, and his graduation pics and later on when he was in the army in WW2. Also pics of my great grandmother who lived next door to them in Galveston. It's stuff I knew about all along, but somehow going through all this and deciding what I need to keep (pics of people I know who they are) and what to recycle (pics of people I have no idea in the world who they are) has put me in a bit of a strange mood. Thinking about going through the lives of people and then just deciding not to keep parts of what they thought was important to save. And of course, how my life now is so important to me, but after I'm gone, what will my sons think when going through my "stuff".

I did get a few things done, although sporadic and not complete projects. I also got a good spin ride in. Plan is to go to church tomorrow, then to Mother's, then hit the classes at the y.

It was nice not to have to be stressing over my Mom's business this morning. We still had to get up early because Harrison had an appointment at the retina center. His dad and mom both had macular degeneration, and he has had to get eye shots for it as well. Since he had to have his eyes dilated for the appointment, I needed to drive him in for it.

I thought ahead, and remembered to take in the two safety deposit box keys I needed for closing a box my mom and I had keys to, but it was mostly her stuff and I was the secondary key-holder, and in my opinion does not need to be under lock and key anymore. It's just a little thing, but it has been just a little irritant nagging at me that I needed to take care of. We also stopped by and picked up my Mom's and our income tax papers. Good news on my Mom's -- had to pay $285 to have it prepared, but getting back almost $6,000 that she overpaid.

Only bad thing....I didn't make the 5:30 p.m. ST class I like to attend. As a rule don't like to drive into town more than once a day. Also got busy working outdoors with my potted plants. So I'm not TOO sad, but still sad I missed my planned fitness.

Wow Paula, you are hanging in there with the estate sale. I am proud of you, I know if you let it they can be very stressful. But you are handling everything like a guardian angel... I am also so proud of the way you are journaling about your experiences. I know for me that is a big help in dealing with stress. Be Blessed everyone.

I feel very reassured about the estate sale. We did a lot of work this morning before my friend came. She and her associate were very awed by what was going to be up for sale, and are even considering dividing it up into two sales...one at the barn and one at the house. I told them I trust their judgement and whatever they decide to do is fine by me.

Lots of adrenaline going the past few days anticipating the visit and judgement, so after it was done a little after noon, DH and I drove into town and did some errands and ate out. I didn't do so bad -- got my usual grilled chicken tenders, steamed broccoli and caesar salad..didn't eat the cornbread muffin. Then when we got home I relaxed about an hour and got an hour spin ride in. The music for the spin ride sure did help. I was thinking of bailing even before I started, then told myself I'd just do 20 min, then 30, then 45, and I was so sweating and into it that I did the whole hour.

It's been a super busy couple of days. A lot of time spent at my mom's. In the barn and at her house. Estate sale friend (thank goodness we actually know someone in the business) is coming tomorrow with her crew to assess the situation. She was supposed to come today, but cancelled at the last minute. Harrison and I got there early this morning and spent from 9 till 12 working. Plan to get there as early tomorrow morning. Want to get this initial meeting over with. The friend who does estate sales has been a friend of DH's family for years and handled the one for his parents' house several years back. Only charged 20% for that, but I know that was a special discount. We'll discuss that tomorrow. I'm hoping she will be charging 40%. We'll find out. There is a lot of work they have to do.

New week's journal of my efforts to improve mobility through pedometer steps and intentionality in taking more steps and freedom of cane
SUNDAY 2300steps church service this morning
Sat in car to travel 2.5 hours to hospital to visit dear friend with heart attack for 2.5 hours then 2.5 hours drive back home - not many steps in that kind of afternoon!!
MONDAY 4100 steps did not much today except my exercise efforts and had some heart symptoms after they were done so will have to be extra watchful tomorrow - thankful I have scheduled Dr appointment on Wednesday morning - just taking it easy most of the day and will see how I feel through the night
TUESDAY 3400steps felt better on the bike today - not as short of breath - and muscles are strengthening. Still not doing much through my days - just thankful for retirement time in my life and lovely laptop to enjoy my computer time on. Must get to bed - sooooo sleepy!!
WEDNESDAY 3400 Steps Saw the Dr this morning and told to basically keep on doing my plan and increase strength - also will set up a physical therapy eval and encouragement plus other follow-up appointments. still tire so easily and completely - had to take an extra short nap this evening before I could make dinner and eat. Will just keep plugging along and trust that I will gain strength enough to be a good helpmate for husband by Farmer's Market season.
THURSDAY 3850 steps lots of phone calls and stress about getting appointments set up but successful day!!! Increased exercise bike another 5 minutes and feeling positive about progress there - sis a lot of study of Anti-inflammatory diet that Dr encourages since I cannot take the pills she wanted me to for arthritis and fibro - not recommended with heart stents - so will see what that diet /life-style change will do for my weight loss goals.I basically stood still I that area this month. One more day before final totals.
FRIDAY - LAST DAY OF MARCH!!!! 635Calories and high # of steps for an individual day 5100!!! Much of it in Walmart shopping!!! Month stayed the same weight, feeling healthy, saw Dr for follow up and good report on blood work and plans for the next few months set.
God is GOOD all the time!!!
Not planning to journal here in April - facing the challenge of learning anti-inflammatory food lifestyle and will be accountable there instead of here.

It was a barn day yesterday -- DH and I got to Mother's about 10 and stayed till after 2. Still several days of work left, but there is a noticeable difference when we open the door. One of the things we did yesterday was to isolate all the paints and poisons to have them ready for hazardous waste disposal day in May. There are still more paints in her garage closet we haven't gotten to. It's overwhelming, but we're getting there. I'm supposed to call Donna (my estate sale friend) tomorrow (or soon) and set up an appointment for her to come look at everything. Technically, she and her crew are the ones to come in and get everything organized, but they'll still have PLENTY of work to do after the months-long work Harrison and I have done. We have taken countless loads to recycling and the dump...as well as swept and cleaned so much dust and mouse droppings. So glad we're almost done in the 2nd attic, because the other day it was quite hot up there. Harrison keeps telling me we're doing Donna's job for her, but I remind him that when she did the estate sale at his parents' house we had done much the same as we are doing now. My job of going through all her clothing, toiletries and personal paperwork was not something I would have wanted Donna to do. Enough about that.

My plan today is to get off the computer, get myself to church, then over to Mother's. Harrison will meet me there with a Subway, and we'll do a couple hours work in the house. Then I'll go to the afternoon ST class at the Y.

Here it is March 24, 2017 --
My days are much the same lately. Once again we worked our day around when we would go to work at Mother's, and how we would make that work with our town errands. I knew I had to color my hair, so did that when I first got up. Rain was predicted, and we got a lot while driving on the way over and in town. The van was loaded with recycling in the back, and charity donations in the middle. We got a little wet unloading all this at the two stops.

Harrison suggested a Chinese restaurant we've been thinking about trying, so after we did all the dropping off, we pulled into the parking lot (which was on the way home.) After thinking about it, we ran through the rain to get inside, and had a nice dining experience. The lunch price was very reasonable, and the service was good. If we go again I will resist having even one of those crunchy fried flour things that were set on the table when we first got there. We both got the Szechuan chicken and I got steamed rice and wonton soup as my choices.

The rain passed and it has been sunny the rest of the day. I love being outdoors this time of year. I set up a hummingbird feeder last night because I have it marked on my calendar they might be coming soon. We usually have a pretty nice group of them here.

March 21-22 - 2017:
Yesterday we stayed here at home in the morning because DH had to take Toni (our very much loved 10 yr old pit mix) to the vet. She has anal gland cancer and has been living with it for about 8 months. We've been giving her stool softener and keeping an eye on it, and she seems to still be happy with her life. We're also giving her a pill daily of a drug supposed to shrink tumors which we send off to Canada for since it's so much cheaper from there. It may or may not be helping, but we're just trying to do everything we can.

I went over to my Mom's house around 3 p.m. to do a little work there, and mainly to check in. The insurance we're on now requires that someone is checking in daily. I then made the 5:30 p.m. ST class, and felt so good afterwards.

This morning -- 3-22 -- DH and I got over to Mother's early and had his pickup loaded for the dump by 9:30. I worked in the barn while he was taking the load. We kept it up till 1:30 when we drove into town to pick Travis (our son) up after he got off work at 1:30 and we took him to our favorite place to eat...Georges...DH and Travis both got "Big O's" (beer in big mugs) so they did some kicking back.

Got home around 4 pm after doing some errands in town after dropping Travis off, and then I worked on the little filing system I've set up here for all Mother's papers and info. Heading in now to eat some heated up leftovers from the fridge.

Tried to get here yesterday, but our internet was out yesterday afternoon and evening. Back on this morning. emoticon
DH and I loaded up his little truck over at my Mom's and found our way to the dump. It was a learning experience. We didn't have to wait long at all, just one truck ahead of us at the weigh station. After weighing again when we were leaving, we owed $3.15. A good deal for getting rid of all that. We just lucked out, though, because as we were leaving there was a huge line (at least 30 big trucks) waiting to get in. I think there are certain hours that commercial trucks can use it, and we squeaked in before that. It would have been really frustrating to have to wait behind all those trucks.

Larry (my brother) has been pushing for a dumpster to throw things in, but as executrix, I've been resisting. We have stuff to throw away from Mother's "stuff", but so far the weekly trash service, and now the availability of using the county dump make the dumpster an unneeded expense. Since DH and I are the ones doing all the work anyway it's really up to us. Now...Larry might need to get a dumpster for his own clean out of his trash in the shop he's supposed to be moving things out of. But he's got a truck and a trailer, too, so the dump is an option for him as well.

I'll be staying home this morning (21st) to work on my own messed up garage. It has gotten out of hand, as has our home. I feel like my life has been on hold since Mother got sick last June. For 3 months I was with her every day through her illness, and then have been working with her estate since. She wasn't quite a hoarder -- no dangerous stacks of newspaper or anything, but it was close. Her huge 2 story house, 2 attics, a garage, and a storage barn that was built on the property before the house was were/are packed full. No space was left empty. She and my Dad were only children, so we have boxes and reams of genealogy and family "stuff" now up in the spare bedroom at my house to go through when I get a chance. She collected antiques and vintage as a hobby and hit all the stores in search of treasure. It is quite overwhelming to go through all this. There is some treasure there, but also a lot of dispose of that I can't quite figure out why she saved. Once we get it to where we can have an estate sale, then the new challenge of getting the house spruced up and listed for sale will be the next hurdle to jump.

I'm so looking forward to getting my life back. emoticon

Knew there was something I forgot to do last night
March 19 - 2017:

Made it to church, then over to Mother's where DH met me with a Subway. We worked about an hour and a half at her house rather than the barn and I went on to do a ST class at the Y. Then I came home and worked some more on the caladium bulb potting and taking plants out of the greenhouse.

Today I'm going to try to convince DH that we need to take a load to the county dump. We've never been there before, but we've got a bunch of bags ready to go, and it seems easier and cheaper just to do it ourselves.

New week's journal of my efforts to improve mobility through pedometer steps and intentionality in taking more steps and freedom of cane
SUNDAY - 3500 steps on my day of rest is pretty good!!! Feeling happy, rested, anticipating new week and new activity levels - Thankful for health and progress in mobility increases. Went up the church flights of stairs just touching the railing and down holding on but with confidence and one foot per stair. This is my test of improvement each week.
Monday -5050 - to the village and did 4 errands - came home successful but exhaustion - firo pain flaring a bit but the exhaustion has me almost to tears - did push through and did the exercise bike and proud of it!!
Tuesday - 4080 steps - still feeling exhausted - took long nap this afternoon and helped some but sure didn't get much accomplished. Good foods, did exercises and now will head to bed after two more teams checked in on.
Wednesday - 3380steps - painful, fatigued day - did not do much in the house, no outside except to watch the puppy run, just kind of moved from chair to chair and napped once - Did get dried beans cooked for dear husband, got the dog bathed and nails trimmed - he has gained another pound and is resisting bath time made it even harder when I was not feeling well. Did some prayer ministry and letter writing so day is not totally lost, but am feeling discouraged, typical fibro flare - I just grow so weary of them!!!
Thursday - 4010steps - took sleep med and got better rest last night - less pain today - moving slow and gentle but getting steps in. Walked outside in the sunshine with the Dog "National Puppy Day" and so proud of my little Yorkie finally learning the roll-over command. At year 1yr 5mo he is so much more teachable. Eating good - sure am thankful for the crockpot.
Friday - 2750 - raining again and I did absolutely nothing but get meals, did exercise, studied and tried to keep pain levels down and am succeeding a wee bit.

Saturday the 25th [would have been Mama's birthday -she has been gone for 11.5 years] 3525steps figured average t=per day this week was 3860per day - short 40 per day from goal but I can learn to do that many more each day and bring that up for the last 5 days if I work at it. Have stayed in calories pretty good for the week so even though it has been a painful week - I can say I have been faithful to basics. New week and new challenges ahead

Got some caladium bulbs saved over from last year potted this a.m., then Harrison and I got to Mother's barn about 10:30. We worked straight through till 4 p.m. -- no lunch or breaks. Got a lot done and then I actually ate "lunch" at 4:30 when we got home....had a cup of coffee, and got some more potting done here before coming in just now.

Heading in for a bath now....because frankly....I don't smell so good... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Another semi quite day, had to feed the horses and sheep hay this morning while it was still a little solid out there. Did get up in 55 so a lot of the snow melted today, and will continue to melt and next couple of days. So will be muddy out there. Tomorrow going visit S2 and S3 will also be there, so it will be a long day, and I really don't know if I will be able to journal tomorrow or not, depends on what time we got home, it's a 2 1/2 drive, at least. So hope you all have a good night. Linda

DH and I are getting into a pattern since daylight savings time of getting up late. Today I didn't get up till 8 a.m. Normally I got up at 7. So this is something to work on. We eventually got over to my Mom's around 11:30 and spent 2 hours there cleaning. Around 1:30 we took a huge load of recycling in. I cleaned out a cabinet in the barn where she had kept all her teaching plans, resources, travelogs of school trips. I felt so guilty recycling all the paper, as it was a huge part of her life ...but we're talking half a van load of paper in various forms -- spiral notebooks etc. She was a hoarder, although not like the ones on TV that have rooms full of newspapers and other stuff. I think it was a matter of she was considered one of the best teachers of that subject at the college she taught at, and she didn't want to share all her tests, lesson plans, resources, etc. But then again...she couldn't bear to part with it either. Since she taught zoology and biology, there are also boxes of animal skeletons and plant specimens.

After the recycling center (a big van-load) we hit the nursery for some pleasure and fun time. I bought some caladium bulbs I am planning to pot up tomorrow. Then the grocery store and the library. I made myself do a spin workout around 4 p.m. -- Glad I did.

Today turned out to be low-key, but good. DH had business in town, so I puttered around getting ornamentals potted. I love buying a couple new plants (little ones less than $2) each spring and then giving them a try in my little protected circle. The deer like to munch on so many of the pretty potted plants that I have to keep them out of temptation's reach. I also got some Swiss Chard seed started...it's 3 different varieties I've been looking for, and found them from a place called Weston Seeds in Canada. The price and shipping was very reasonable, and I'm looking forward to the thick stemmed varieties I chose.

Around 2 I headed over to Mother's to do more cleaning out, and focused on things in her house. Didn't even go to the barn today. I actually got a lot done and got things neatened up in some of the areas. Then I headed into town to do a bit of grocery shopping at Aldi's, and made the 5:30 ST class at the y. DH is eating his dinner of scrambled eggs with green onion tips from the garden, asparagus, and baked red potatoes. I'm heading in soon to enjoy mine as well.

We got our tax info into Steve this afternoon at our 1:00 appt. I had Mother's info as well. It's really good that he's been doing her taxes for years. Hope I thought of everything. Talked about the tax cuts for getting solar panels this year. Something Harrison really wants to do.

Then we went to Mother's barn and worked 2 hours. Lots of poisons, paints, etc. I'm not quite sure what to do with. But we got a lot of trash bagged and got really dirty. Just now got home and we're trying to decide if we want to go out and get a cucumber bed and a squash bed planted in the garden. I really intended to get a workout in this afternoon, but after that work in the barn, I just can't get the energy up for it. Guess gardening will be my "workout" for the day.

Loaded a few things from our attic (thanks to Lee's strong young body) and over to Mother's before meeting up with Travis to treat both boys to lunch. Then Lee got back onto the road to San Marcos. Bit by bit we are getting things done.

Since we spent so much time in town today earlier, I decided to stay home after we got home about 3;30. Instead of turning around and burning gas back into town for the St class at the Y at 5:30, I put on some workout music and did a "Rip and Ride" workout at home. 10 minutes on the spin bike, 10 minutes ST, 10 minutes spin cardio, 10 min st.....and on and on till 60 minutes was done. Got a good workout.

I aim to get all the rooms vacuumed today. Especially the kitchen. It always looks like it needs vacuuming, if we ever re-do flooring in there again, it will not be carpet. Yuck.

Lee (younger son) is spending the night with us tonight before he has to head back to San Marcos. We got some work out of him today moving two treadle sewing machines from our storage building to Mother's for the estate sale. One of the treadles is actually in good shape. I used it in Hawaii where we didn't have electric power. I got pretty good at it. The other treadle we actually found at the dump one day. It still has the ancient singer machine in it, and the neat wrought iron base, but the cabinet is in pretty sad shape. I bet someone will buy it, though.

I made a new recipe for dinner tonight. It was really good.

I subbed penne pasta for the orzo...didn't have wine, used water with a tsp or so of rice vinegar instead, and added about half a cup more of some spaghetti sauce I had open already. Everyone really liked it. I'll do it again.

I drove to the Y this morning for a spin workout and enjoyed socializing with the classmates. All in all a good day. Must get back to the grind over at Mother's though. Still so much work to do.

Journal of efforts to improve mobility through pedometer steps and intentionality in taking more steps and freedom of cane
Week 2 March 12 - Sunday -Feeling positive because I really did get back to the elliptical this week and tolerating it fairly well with minimal swelling of right knee. I will tuck the total steps in tomorrow when I journal but have had a good Sunday of walking at church, did stairs, walked extra hall as the level carpeted area is perfect for my walking. Did all the aisles at the grocery store, am doing a few extra steps every time I am up in the house and will do elliptical later in the day.
Monday - 4400 steps increasing elliptical time with out hurting too bad. Also pushed to walk around every aisle in grocery store again today. Intentional walking extra steps in house. really sleepy tonight and having trouble writing - will see you-all tomorrow.
Tuesday - 4050 - not quite as many steps but got more office work done so feel I broke even. Intentional walked around the circle in the house each time I went potty - that is a commitment that I need to keep active daily!
Wednesday - 4455 - Didn't really do any new "intentional tricks - just trying to be consistent in taking a few extra steps whenever I hear my pedometer click and when I do certain tasks in the home. Doing well at the seated elliptical - thankful for that.
Thursday - 4030 not as many steps but feeling happy with day, progress on book-keeping project and got in 30 on the elliptical and finally successfully did the stair exercise I have been working so hard on -- I'm getting stronger in my legs ... and the sun in SHINEING in Washington state
Friday - 4175 steps - sticking to slow but sure - doing OK with efforts and thankful for the definite improvement I can see and feel in leg strength - not doing so well with calories but will not beat my self up for it - Got two forms of the taxes done - the two hardest ones so on to completion soon. Had lovely visit with grandfather figure in my life today - God is so good in supplying my need of emotional and spiritual uplifting.
Saturday - 4070 - yeah ---I did the elliptical up 30 minutes ...Monday will do exercise bile 10 minutes and elliptical 20 - FINISHED THE TAXES they are signed, ready to copy and mil!!!
Planned a special treat of lamb and had it for supper tonight and no other fattening ideas that went through my mind but did not cave !!!! Great week for me - and the sun was shining again!!! Tomorrow starts a new week and to the top of the list.

Last night was a disaster. We got to Belton in time to be an hour early for the Willie Nelson concert. It was supposed to start at 8 -- we already had tickets. When we got to the exit for the Bell County Expo center the traffic was already backed up at 7. We sat on access road where we sat 2 FULL hours before getting to the parking lot where we drove around about 20 minutes before finding a parking spot. Belton is a small town, and I don't think they were prepared for the sellout crowd. It took about an hour before the police got involved with directing traffic. The guys in front of us on the access road must have been drinking beer all the way from Ft Worth -- they took turns relieving themselves on the side of the road behind the open car door. One of them kind of had to hop along with the stream still full force when the car inched forward (either that or be knocked over by the door). Guess we were trying to find amusement where we could, but all in all it was pretty disgusting the poor planning by the city. We did get to see about 40 minutes of Willie and Family, and they did a good job. Then when we got out the rain had picked up and the temp had dropped drastically and we were scrambling with all the other thousands trying to find the car.

Daylight savings time, and I did not get up this morning till 10:30! Haven't slept that late since I was a teen! Just got through doing an hour spin ride. Sure lifts my spirits. The boys moved the bird's eye maple antique chest of drawers from Mother's bedroom to our upstairs, and took a bookcase that was up there to Travis's house. He's been needing one.

Harrison and I went to Mother's this morning and spent about 2 hours more in the barn. Larry (my brother) drove up for awhile. There is still a lot to go in there...and I think it goes better when it's just Harrison and me. Larry has all kinds of ideas about how we should be doing it, but he's not actually doing it.

We came home around 1, had some lunch, and now I'm puttering around here trying to work myself up for a spinning workout. At 5:30 we head over to Travis's to meet up to go to the Willie Nelson concert. We're going to a Thai restaurant first. I'm looking forward to it, though truthfully part of me would just rather veg at home.

Harrison and I went to Mother's about 10:30 and worked in her barn till 12:30. On the "mezzanine" we found several trunks with quilts in them. One is feather. I remember sleeping under it at my grandmother's house in Fredericksburg....back when it still got cold in TX. emoticon There was also a tea shipping box similar to this

with "Galveston shipping" and it was packed full with two sets of "Aunt Erah's best china". No way to lift it down so Harrison had to unpack it all (wrapped in newspapers from 1979 when Aunt Erah died) and then I had to repack it somewhat with bubble wrap separating the stacks to put it in the van and drive it to the house. He startled at least one mouse, and I was glad he was up there and not me.

We found a LOT of other stuff, too, and were pretty dirty at the end of 2 hours. I had brought a change of clothes and Harrison just brushed himself off before we drove into town to pick Travis (our son) up at the end of his shift at 1:00 and take him to lunch. Great lunch at George's and then Harrison and I drove home and crashed for about an hour. I got up, drank a cup of coffee, and did an hour spin ride starting at 4:00. Harrison drove off for his music night with the boys at 5:30, and I went out to the garden and got a bed of "flying saucer" squash planted. Looks like patty pan, but colored.

It's time to feed the dogs. I sat out on the back porch awhile with them running in the woods. Noticed there are mosquitoes already! Got a lot done today. Tomorrow is the Willie Nelson concert in Belton.

Week #1 Day # 1
Went to the dermatologist today and was diagnosed with Urticaria,. I have to use a steroidal crème, cut off my finger nails, change once again, soaps, moisturizer and shampoos. Start taking two Zyrtec pills daily. This is starting to get really expensive. I still have to keep the Benedryl on hand as well. I swear I am a walking Pharmacy. I can take and put all of my scripts into one of those cloth shopping bags and fill it up.

You really want a good laugh. This is the second doctor that tells me after I complain that the hives are interfering with my walking for exercise that "you don't need to exercise to loose weight".. Can you believe this? I am expected to go on a 900 calorie a day diet.

One doctor did that to me when I weighed in at 300 pounds and I lost to 160 pounds, but I slowly started gaining the weight back as I reintroduced healthy foods back into my diet. So I am back down to eating 1000 calories or less again. For once I would like to just sit down and eat something healthy and delicious with out thinking about it.

Day#2

WOO.... today was a bit hard to get use to having no finger nails. LoL!! Needed to scratch and literally couldn't do it. Now I know what the dermatologist was up to. So, I had to break out the prescription cream and it looks just like Vaseline. But it did help with the intense itching. It didn't last as long as it normally lasts and I still sat in front of the air conditioning.

But all in all it was a better day than it has been in a long time. Even manage to get some sweeping done.

God Bless every one and have a Great Week End!!

Day #3

Well still reeling from my saboteur. Woke up early yesterday and lo and behold my husband had a mini pack of coconut donuts as well as an iced honey bun waiting for me with my morning coffee. I was so peeved. To save on yet another argument I did eat the small pack of donuts with my coffee and threw the honey bun in the freezer. But the point is I have asked until I am blue in the face not to buy this stuff or to bring it in the house unless I specifically ask him to. Even had the new doctor explain to him that it is not me, that but him (the doctor) that wants me to loose weight. I do not know what else to do to get through to him that I have to eat healthier. They want to see if I drop a little more weight if my asthma, hives and a host of other illnesses will clear up. I too am hoping that they will either clear up or lessen in their intensity. Today all went well in the food department. Tracked everything and still have room for more food if I choose. But I think I will stick with water and one last coffee

Day #4

Well the doubling up on the allergy med's like the dermatologist wanted has started affecting my sleeping. I could not believe it when I woke up today at 4:00 PM. It was time to start dinner. But luckily I had my half of a 6 inch sub left over from last night. So all I had to do was fix something for the husband to eat and that worked out great. For today I had less than 500 calories. I wonder if this is the doctor's plan. To have me get some rest from all the itching and cut back even more on eating.

I don't think I will like this plan. Only because, if I sleep to many hours, I will start waking up with headaches since my brain surgery. 7 a night is usually good for me and maybe a nap later in the day. I still have to take migraine meds, they usually keep them at bay as long as I am not stationary too long.

Day #5

Well decided to accept the neighbor's invite to come over for dinner. We walked over since it was cool out, didn't think I would break out in hives. Turned out to be a great night and I did get in 10 minutes of walking. I probably will feel it in the calves tomorrow since it has been awhile since I have done any real distance walking. Dinner was nice, I had a grilled 4 ounce steak, small baked potato, skipped the baked beans and chili fries. Did have a small slice of chocolate cake and a tall glass of ice water. Had a great evening for a change, loved getting out of the house.

Day #6

Well should have stayed home and just listened to the doctors. I have to avoid the pollen count after 6 PM and before 9:00 AM. That is when it is at the highest. I woke up with a stuffy head and sore throat. Didn't break out in hives though, it was nice and cool. But now I feel ucky and just don't want to get out of bed and do anything. On top of it they have me doubling the Claritin non-drowsy allergy pills, so much for non-drowsy. They are better than any sleeping pill ever, I can't seem to shake the sleepiness. It just hangs in there.

That is something I will be reporting to the doctor, when I see him in a couple of weeks. It is becoming a real bummer.

Day #7

Happy Saint Paddy's Day!! I get some slack sometimes from well meaning people trying to educate me about this Blessed Day... Well I am sad to say my Blessed Father's family immigrated back in the 1400's from Ireland one of my earliest descendants was a Captain on a merchant's ship and later on there was another relative that actually served Queen Mary. So I know that St. Patrick passed on March 17th and buried at Downpatrick. And that Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. So much for a history lesson.... which could really be a long one, because of all the fighting that involves celebrating the much beloved Saint and in which the Holiday is celebrated in and around Ireland.

Day #8

Well it should be day 9. But I missed yesterday, computer started acting up and I had to do some maintenance on it. Still need to do a little more tweaking, but will do that another time.
Today has been a little harsh on my skin. I did 2 loads of laundry and that's all it took for my skin to break out in full force. I even had my skin cream on already and to my disappointment I still broke out. I had to take 2 Benadryl, 2 Claritin tablets and take a long cold shower with Cera Ve bar soap, Cetaphil shampoo and Clean & Clear conditioner. Then turn on the air conditioner to finally start getting some relief. Once the red dots stop popping up on the skin the itching will stop and they will stop getting bigger, then finally the itching can start to be relieved. Thank goodness. I am beginning to believe they can't do anything for this.....

Day #9

Dealing with an out break of hives, they are so painful and itchy... I am so upset that they don't seem to be helping me with these things. This jar of salve seems to be only a big jar of Vaseline with added steroids. It is so intense with the itching now and is expanding down my thighs and buttocks. I finally got on the computer so I would not be so busy try to scratch, which I can't even do that any more. They cut my nails so darn short that a few of them actually hurt because they are too short. emoticon

Day #10

So angry with my husbands stepmom. Been living next to her for 10 years and all of sudden she has started fixating on cutting on my shrubs and flowers. She will reach over the fence to do this. I have even called the Sheriff's dept on her over this before. To no avail has this deterred her. My nerves cannot take this anymore. I do not want to live in turmoil or worry over our house, she is supposed to be a Christian, she didn't file my husband's will and the house is not in our name. I do not see a positive out come for us.

Day #11

I called our Pastor and had a long talk with him about what is happening with my Step mother in law. I feel much better now. One thing is for certain, I need to make peace with in myself that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing. As long as I am at peace within myself that I am acting appropriate and not in violation of Christ's laws then I know that I am fine in the sight of God.

Day #12

Staying positive when there are so many others trying to interfere with our daily life here in Chuluota. I try to understand my husband's step mom, but I can't. I am just going to let God handle her and stop focusing on her and all the negativity. It is not good for me or my emotions to allow her and her family to get under my skin. I have to rise above her and their actions and forgive them in order to move forward and keep goin in a positive direction in my life.

Day #13

It should be Day # 14, but my mother in law from Palm Bay came up to check on us. With everything going on with my husbands step mom, she was in Shock to see how much my husband's appearance has actually changed. He has stopped shaving and getting his hair cut. He looks like a cave man now. He is quiet and sullen and worse yet he has started drinking beer. My husband hasn't drank beer since his youth. He just gave it up, said it was childish now that he was a husband and a father. With everything going on, he has taken up drinking beer again. He won't drink in the house though. I don't quite understand that.

Just flat out stress. I have to learn to deflect and stop letting my husbands family get to me. His half sister had the gall to come over and ask for a picture of his grandmother so she could photo copy it. She had it for over and hour. I was livid. They have almost all of the family photos of this woman & he only has 2. She wouldn't even answer the phone. After the way they have been treating us like we are garbage under their feet & cheated us out of ownership of our house. I knew she wasn't going to give it back until I got involved.

Day #14

Trying to eat healthy and stay away from sugar. Chocolate is one of my trigger foods, so what does the husband do. He brings home chocolate covered almonds. I have already had 2 servings, I have not had these in 2 years...

Day #15

Did well with my food choices. It is just the itching from my skin condition is driving me nuts. The doctors expect me to loose weight and not exercise while doing it. All I know to do when losing weight is to reduce calories and exercise. But what do you when you can't exercise?
I am stuck at 193.6 Lb.s I guess I will have to try and cut more carbs to jump start losing more weight or go back on the Slim Fast diet. I did loose 100 pounds on that one but I was only eating 800-900 calories daily... I will just have to watch the carbs really close, we will see what I do.

Day #16

Still worried about my son and his family. I don''t know what to do or how to help him right now with out going against my husband. My husband thinks that I am just going to sit here and rot away in this house with nothing to do and no family. That I am not supposed to care about my children or grandchildren. I am relying on my Lord and Savior to pull us thru this

Week 1 of journaling that fits my strongest goal of increasing mobility and walking in particular so will commit to a month a writing not only the # of steps per day but also what I intentionally did that day to increase the # of steps with regular pedometer.
Sunday - 4065 steps on pedometer including two long flights of stairs up and down. Intentionally walked from each corner of our fellowship room at church to greet people and enjoy walking on safe level area and then purposefully went up and down the long carpeted flights of stairs up and down holding rail firmly...I have gotten so weak this winter it makes me sad and scared. Grocery store I purposely walk up every aisle even though I don't need items on them. So thankful to have an active pedometer reading to encourage me again.
MONDAY - 3200 steps and I am so tired I didn't journal much but did get on the exercise stairs and did therapeutic work there. Feeling tired and sore throat - to bed very early for us.
TUESDAY - the commitment to journal here is harder than I expected . Maybe because I don't feel settled in an accountable here yet. Today was a sick day at home - sore throat and visual discouragement of MORE SNOW so could not get outside again...1200 steps and just rested and sat at desk most of the day. Did try to get up and walk length of the house few extra times that was purposeful so got in a few more steps that way.
Wednesday - 3200 steps - good day of activity - throat is much better, tried the stairs exercise recommended but legs not strong enough so will find ways to modify it and build up slowly - the elliptical went well and careful slow walk with the dog outside but will keep trying to expand and walk further each day. really unstabe on my legs and cannot afford to fall!!!. so what did I do to intentionally go further? Put the shoes next to the door so I was challenged to get outside with the puppy. The snow melted so lots of mud and mess.
Thursday - 3000 steps - snowed off and on all day - no outside for me - intentional extra laps around in the house halls and living rooms plus extra stairs for the laundry. The little click -click of the pedometer is an extra encouragement for just a few more steps when I do something in the house - like go the long way around to do an errand, if I go potty, go up and down the hall before and after, Set the table one person;s placesetting per trip across the room ...Silly little games in my efforts to get more steps in.
Friday - will be sitting long hours of travel to and from Dr appointments so no journal planned.
Saturday - yesterday was much as planned - but today has been even less than I expected - Fibro exhaustion is in full bloom so I just stayed in my nighty and rested, napped, computer and more nap - thankful there is not much pain that there often is on these days. did my turn on the elliptical and did one flight of stairs so not totally lost day

I already do this and have done so since 2005. It includes what I eat, sometimes comments about it, daily motivating quote (different from the SP one I post on my teams), exercise, water intake and SP stats. If you bite it, write it!

Journaling does not have to be long stories to work but is a wonderful accountability and encouraging activity. I have been journaling gratitude and joy moments this year but will add a new topic of journaling that fits my strongest goal of increasing mobility and walking in particular so will commit to a month a writing not only the # of steps per day but also what I intentionally did that day to increase the # of steps with regular pedometer. I do things well starting on Sundays so will start my recording it here tomorrow just a short paragraph per day for a week then start a fresh one each Sunday.

You read it right.... I am Challenging You to Journal for 30 Days!! It is up to you what you want to journal about. Whether it is your food habits, emotions about how your feel when you eat or exercise, where you go for exercise, anything you like, it goes as long as you journal about something. You can even use your blog for journaling.

How about? Who's up for the Challenge? Let's get signed up by March 10, 2017....
