Finally got rid of the old exercise bike I couldn't repair by dragging it to the curb. A friend had a new one for me in her garage! Hooray!

The team challenge to dance for at least ten minutes a day has been a wonderful adventure for me. I love trying out all of the online videos and having a chance to check out so many teachers and styles that way! I keep telling myself just ten minutes, and then usually end up doing the whole video. Fun!

Today I'll do some strength training and ride the exercise bike before teaching an hour of belly dance.

Last night, I did not plie as deep across the board throughout my dance routine (it became more cardio belly dance than bhangra); varied the steps as well, more turns, more jazz-square-like movements; and more frontward facing movements as well--and made sure to favor alignment of knees over ankles when (foot flat on floor at all times, even the footfall ending in a flat foot)

Same duration, same rhythms; same interval schemes. {Pretty much the same music; only iTunes forcing a different scheme of silence-y gaps for the first leg) ...

Knees hardly hurt either yesterday, or even this a.m. Had to use liniment sparingly.

Now my tushie hurts. Didn't realize how weak my gluteal muscles are ...

My tushie hurts.

58 minutes last night Cardio Intervals Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion ... trying to continue to taper in intensity for checking in with my dance practices via a possible 5 Rhythms workshop on Saturday ...

Yesterday's had been better. A bit more enjoyable, and muscle strength gains because the steps were slower, the footfalls extremely precise ....

Before, little by little I had done other kinds of walking cardio, much more steady state; then back to this kind ... too hard still.

Do NOT want the 2 hour workshop to kill my knees as I'd done ...

Last night, I just took the main playlist on Tribe www.shop5rhythms.com/gabrielle-roth-
-t
he-mirrors.html
, played it twice in succession (two full Power Waves, in 5 Rhythms parlance)...

put a lot of bhangra moves and some street dance/yoga-pose-like moves into it ... it made me sweat bullets this time.

Cardio more than it ever had been ...

Quit at t = 52 min.

But my knees were hurting afterwards; again with the soggy weather today. I rub strong liniment on it ... there were hardly any belly dance moves thrown in there ...

Yesterdat:

61 minutes Cardio Bollywood-Bhangra-Belly Dance Fusion (Intervals) ... included the entire music playlist ... most of it was done (offline, lower-tech) on the Boom Box, so I tacked on hardly any silent spaces ...(during which I danced) ..

followed by:

30 minutes J. Brown's Yoga Video .. 30 min. half-practice (with Enhanced Instruction, as this one was never done before) ...

I'd made a promise to myself that I would pace myself, going "old-school" if I had to ... I make up the moves as I go along, anyhow ...

As far as Mr. Brown, I finally for the last few times, GOT his approach. Someone like me, who's been practicing yoga for years ... of course my early influences in yoga were live, kind of wannabes, and more the type such that everything was about the sequence--and it was the kind of sequence you had to be able to walk and chew gum (with physical movement and vocalization) at the same time ...(like martial arts in a way --- certainly NOT going there [or that way] now).

55 minutes Cardio Belly Dance Bhangra fusion ... loads of belly dance (I again feel like I need lessons ... or at least a flowing costume for the rites) ...

followed by

35 minutes (too tough) of a Mat Pilates Level II practice Harness the Power by Jennifer Kries over on Udemy ...

feel like I wrenched my back...

I am somewhere still (or retrogressed to) the beginner stages of pilates ... intense cardio hardly works my core; I knew that from back in my studio daze ... when I'd taken with The Soulful Yogini (who didn't go rough on us)

54 minutes Cardio Belly Dance Bhangra Fusion Interval Workout ...

This had been just before ...

Earlier, in the afternoon, I did the:

75 minutes' practice on J. Brown's Yoga Video

It is much closer to my skill level (i.e., providing enough of a challenge to grow with and work up towards) than is the 60 minute one ... and if you remove some of the disjointedness, and remove all the intermediate-level arm balances and the starter-challenging-inversions from the last studio yoga class I ever attended, each of these two practices are not dissimilar at all ...

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't be doing any yoga inversions beyond plough in my condition, and can't be holding downward dog too long ...

Thank you for the encouragement, BONNIEMARGAY!

Yesterday, I had done my new, Cardio Interval Training version, again:

54 minutes Belly Dance Bhangra Fusion,

15 minutes extra walking

Only lighter caretaking duties (I was a little tired from chores and the climate controls were a bit lacking over at the relative's apartment ...that's ONE way to feel hot!)

101 mg/dL blood sugar test this morning. Perfect!

Finally found (and founded) a healing workout for my condition. I wish it were much easier to do than it is. But at least it doesn't take forever to do.

So grateful I have a deep-tissue massage scheduled this afternoon. Before then, I will ride the exercise bike, do my upper body strength training, and dance. After massage, I'll have a nice walk with my adorable pup and my beautiful wife.

67 minutes Cardio Belly Dance Bhangra Fusion Interval Workout ...

Um, it hadn't started out being such, but I had a major, major iTunes fail.

so, I reverted to my Panasonic Platinum Collection old-school Boombox ...and wound up turning this dancing on its ear! Intervals really take the cake!

Because, face it, as you know, I really am more the bellydancer rather than hi-energy Indian party cruiser. Was a freaking blast! And as cardio as my old-school one.

So far, anyway ... will be sure sometime soon.

I enrolled in Jennifer Kries' online course in Classical Pilates on Udemy. Got a holiday special of 65% off. Will figure out when's the best time I could use it. Kind of in between her presented levels.

Meanwhile, in addition to the dancing, I did:

60 minutes' practice on J. Brown's Yoga Video.

This video is a course of mild, therapeutic vinyasa yoga.
I figured if the practice I myself authored starting in 2008, required me to use blocks all the time, I was ready for something that was intrinsically mild, healing and challenging in a sane way, as presented from the get-go.

Some of us have to be ready for the practice that is at the level and in the style that is right for us.

Grateful I could exercise my way through a panic attack last night: walking and Pilates and yoga really helps burn off that flood of fight-or-flight stress hormones.

Also, after half a year of working on push ups and incline body weight rows, I tried a pull up on my friend's padded doorway pull up bars last night, and made it halfway up! I really am halfway through my fitness goal of a pull up this year! Woohoo!

Today is more biking, dancing, walking, washing the pup, stretching, strength training.

57 minutes of milder Cardio Belly Dance ...

I don't think I really need any belly dance lessons now ...

because my yoga fusion practice (Serene Embodied and Attuned) from a day earlier than my dancing which had been a about 16 hours ago, worked its magic on the precision of most of my movements ... I'd stayed away from yoga (meaning my own fusion, which is the only style yoga I have done in the past 2+ months, at this writing) ... because I thought I was going to ditch it.

I was lucky iTunes did not give me much trouble back those 16 hours ago... it is NOT totally offline, but fireworks-watchers WERE (I don't have much transmission speed--DSL broadband in a population-dense area) ...

Ouch! I had a ballerina tell me I should roll my arches on a golf ball to try to massage it deeply enough, but you probably have your own practice for managing the pain.

So much laundry today (I do it old school and hang everything up to dry to add more fitness/stretching/effort and use less gas and electric), then washing off my dusty car, running errands, riding the exercise bike, push ups, walking the pup, stretching.

Yesterday I did:

59 minutes very vigorous Cardio Bhangra Belly Dance fusion ....

All day my plantar fasciitis pain in my left foot/arch acted up ... when I get a moment, I will ice it...

at most to eke out a belly dance workout tonight ...that's at most ... !

Some of the pain is from the obvious change in humidity ...

But I have to be doing some sort of maintenance version of weight bearing cardio ... to maintain my gains ...

Congratulations on getting dancing in! The hour of belly dance I taught last night was WAY sweatier than usual, too.

Grateful I could start my day today with an hour of Pilates; ready to do my push ups, ride the exercise bike, walk the pup, and get some stretching in.

Yesterday, I did the nurture cure, and helped caretake elderly relative in addition to less than a 20 minute walk ... but was dragging around rolling shopping bag ...

and

on 6/22/14

60 minutes Cardio Belly Dance Fusion ... fairly high intensity ...

Lost a day of any kind of dance, due to a day tour ... etc.

But I could not dance all-out as I usually do ...

Not too sure why, but I was sweating more than I have recently in Belly Dance alone ... it was a little too intense, and in such low rotation, the actual dance steps guiding it were more approximate and more unfamiliar ...

Maybe my live lessons - even though I use belly dancing for cardio exercise and not to advance (or for performance skills with the bells & whistles, etc.) - are beginning to wear off with less-frequent application ... ?

Sounds like a blast!

Grateful to push through the blues and start my day with 73 minutes of booty-building and Pilates. Later I'll rock the dumbbells and push ups, the recumbent exercise bike, and walk my pup. Maybe even some gentle yoga while we watch a DVD from the library tonight: finally get to see "Elysium" after waiting forever on the reserve list. Hope it's worth the wait!

Did another double-header .. but this time nearly back-to-back ...

61 minutes Cardio Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion

and

60 minutes Serene Embodied and Attuned, with a more pilates alignment but same routine as just a few days ago ... had no trouble breathing through every movement ...

Worth it.

Oh, yeah - the Choo-Choo Shimmy ... I learned that from Leilainia via download video ... via myyogaoline ... I guess no knowledge is for nothing!

Yesterday, I did walking workout in front of the TV while watching Rookie Blue ... about 65 minutes. It was NOT intense

I will move it and move it today ... planning on a hiatus of sorts ... lol

Some people call those rapid Flashdance-style shimmies Choo Choos, SO much cardio!

Grateful for the mobility and willingness to start today with an hour of Pilates and ten minutes of booty-building exercises. Next I will work with free weights and upper body strength training, ride the recumbent exercise bike and walk the pup. We'll see if I can get any shimmies in there.

Belly dance moves in Doonya ... more than expected ... but less than I might have wanted ... maya moves all over the place ... some shimmies (that, when taken to full intensity by the non-low-impactors--had been meant to be Flashdance-ish rapid-fire tiny stomps) ...

Yeee gads, you sound energetic despite the soreness ... BonnieMargay

So regards Monday ....

52 minutes the freebie master class in Doonya ... this is the Cardio Bollywood/Hip-Hop fusion I had been talking about. More cardio and cheerleading-workout-like stuff rather than formal dance instruction ... not taught with that old-school bell curve in intensity, but in interval style and rapid ... loads of balance challenges ...

The teacher was certainly positive, encouraging and nice; and made no snide remarks (I'd gotten used to a different kind of dance teacher at The Nameless Studio) ... or stuff about getting into shape for the beach (whothehell needs THAT? Well, I may have 'needed' that at one point ... sez anybody BUT me!)

No 65 year old men. One young man who was not hyper-involved with the movements. A few older ladies- not much older than I am ... but more than is usually attracted to a class like that. Of course, it blew their minds ... and of course some young women ... the kind that class usually attracts, who got bored with Zumba no doubt ...

That evening's activity screwed me up. Did not move atall yesterday.

You wanna know the irony?

Ninety seconds of me dancing in that class, was memorialized for eternity on facebook. Now, in the unlikely possibility of any of my family or facebook friends being interested in that kind of Bollywood workout, I would be "tagged" - there were stills of me, too and I was in all of them!

That means now I can only take Zumba or that class; and only from two different teachers--the one who'd last taught me yoga (who now teaches Zumba)-- she knows I cannot balance greatly, anyway; and this particular teacher of Doonya. She's not yet Hemalayaa Behl, but the workout is a LOT tougher than that DVD. And she's NICE. Plus she has the evidence of the multiple dance crimes my body commits ...

I have never taken Zumba live class; and when it comes to Zumba, I trust nearly nobody.

Did chores (and had to walk up and down the steep hills to do them, counts for nada with my problems .. so far, today ...

Sounds like so much fun!

Everything is sore after teaching a sweaty hour of belly dance last night. Started today with more booty-building exercises and an hour of Pilates. Next I'm doing push ups and riding the exercise bike. Tonight is a walk with the pup and maybe some incline body weight rows.

Yesterday, 70 minutes - Cardio Bhangra Bellydance Fusion ... threw a few breakdancing/hip hop/street dance moves in at the very end ... in the name of cross-training ... [here we GO again, TINA ... challenges 'round every corner ... lol]

60 minutes Serene Embodied and Attuned.. this is later on yesterday ...[a little lethargic and not-so-well, so I don't DO double-headers]. This is a yoga practice I authored, in abbreviated form (a slow flow practice). I had not done this (or any other yoga posture practice) in one month. It was easier and more fun to do, than the time I left off with it, one (1) month ago.

I felt heavier in body (of course - even those 5 pounds of needed regain make a difference), but stronger. I "floated", where I had to "float" - for the very first time. Thanks to this, my Cardio Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion.

NYC Dance Week is coming up very soon, so these guys--some of them, up from DC--are making their rounds and doing it a few days early ... LOL

Tonight I'm going to a FREEBIE master class in Bollywood/Hip-Hop Fitness ... you know, it's mostly kids (ahem, "young adults") ... but there is always that 65 year old spry wiry, muscley firecracker gent* who could do a tumble and spin in a class like that ... they'd been in my yoga classes downtown, too--I'd just forgotten about 'em in all this time ...

All I can say is tough "competition", Viva La Cross-Training ... and from what I found out, this kind of class has a LOT of "belly dancing" thrown in ... *(yep, it's Co-Ed, though, so not strict or restricted in that usual belly dancing vein)

So grateful for a deep tissue massage last night to help me through a very anxious weekend. Blessed with the health and mobility to start with an hour of Pilates and 15 minutes of booty-building exercises this morning. Plan on push ups, exercise bike, walking the pup, incline body weight rows, and lots of house work today. Maybe I'll leave time for gentle stretching at the end of the day. Whew!

Notsogloomy around here!

My interviewer (for a job) cancelled out on me! For the second time!!

Um, as you may be aware ... I have a new interview suit. Size changed (smaller) in 3 weeks! Almost completely temporarily hemming it ... maybe it's for the best. Will permanent-hem it very soon (it is none too formal for short-distance travel ... engraving of designer name being on the buttons!)

I am looking for the right fit. The kind of boss that actually gives explicit marching orders. I don't like a job where I have to guess at everything ... um ... had felt like quitting my last job about six times in the nearly 6 years of it ... then they closed up the office and laid me off.

Quitting (no matter how valid the reason, if the reason comes from your own head and not from hostile environment, etc.) does not grant you unemployment insurance ...

Methinks this disorganized fool would not have been it ... not even CLOSE ...

@BONNIEMARGAY, I did only what I said I did; but did not get to do what I'd set out to do (re-choreographing anything) ...

I am looking for a job ... and was fielding phone calls in response to my sit wanted ad ...

From the Business Dictionary:

Term of the Day:

"white collar"

Refers to employees whose job entails, largely or entirely, mental or clerical work, such as in an office. The term white collar work used to characterize non-manual workers, but now it refers to employees or professionals whose work is knowledge intensive, non-routine, and unstructured. Historically, in the West, clerical workers wore white shirt collars but manual workers wore blue. See also blue collar.

They left out - kinda - pink collar-- or actually the old definition of "white collar" ... that is the nexus in which I hope to hang my hat again ...

Because I'm GOOD ... REAL GOOD!

Yesterday, 61 minutes Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion to my playlist .. it worked with fewer stutters this time, and they were shorter ...

I think it has to do with my clearing my browser caches... and, oh, not as much traffic online ...this uploaded stuff does not "play offline"; and neither had my OWN original (though not-yet-copyrighted) Serene Embodied and Attuned workout [it's the one workout missing which might have been commercially available in a different zeitgeist--so I'd had to invent it] .. it's freakin' iTunes. Now I won't go back to the .m4a files of Windows Media Player ... it's cludgey and the audio not quite as good (using internal speakers) ...

Why do I say, "HAD"?

At this point, if I have to really eventually ditch or extremely cut down, coffee consumption ... Serene Embodied and Attuned - which is slow flow yoga mixed with a tiny bit of killer mat pilates - will make it back into rotation ... and hopefully (commercially speaking) my heirs may become SEA "Navigators" of this discipline ...

Difficulty exercising for most of the weekend since I had the grands.

Saturday I took them to Tweetsie Railroad in the mountains and spent the day walking up and down the mountain.

Monday - 30 min elliptical, 30 min stationary bike.
Tuesday - 30 min walking, 30 min aerobics

So grateful I spent SO much time cleaning the house yesterday, because the in laws are unexpectedly dropping by for brunch. I'll make time for riding the exercise bike and doing my push ups before we wash the dog in Coronado today, then we will have our extra long walk around the ferry landing, with incline body weight rows at the fitness stations in the park.

Forgot about posting here, hahah .. but may as well.

64 minutes Cardio Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion.

And the return of the dreaded sweatiness ...

Plan to re-choreograph the first section again ... tonight ... possible retweak ...

Oh, and went at this my regular workout slower and more intuitively again, because of THE goal being met. [I'm a Type 2 diabetic, so I can't "really" meet strength goals, ifyouknowwhatImean ...] anyway ... emoticon ... my wasting syndrome was stemmed emoticon without otherwise time-consuming, expensive trips to go swimming (even though the weather is getting warmer and swimming laps does do this for me plus I could eat a couple more carbs in the offing ... [But nix to the pool fees - I'd been laid off recently]
But wasting was taken care of, using Bhangra with Belly Dance, a cardio workout that is really strengthening, too ... which I do for free at home
and I am now in danger of overshooting the mark ...

Regained not as many avoirdupois pounds as I would have liked, so now I've got to go and embrace most of the iTunes glitchety-gloo ... have broadband DSL in high-population-density area .. and the iTunes of your own uploads is "not" offline ...

Yesterday shoulders, hips, knees and tushy were in pain from my Bhangra Belly Dance fusion - even having switched off 2 days ago, with my old, no-longer-tough "toughest" Egyptian belly dance workout 56 min - it hadn't done much to alleviate the pain ...so I went really short and easy and just walked back & forth in front of the TV ...

I put only dance (exercise) here. I mean I do my own chores, and I walk when I'm not taking public transportation--but they are not much and they do not have much effectiveness ... That's practically all I do.

So, yesterday I did 57 minutes (back to) my cardio bhangra belly dance fusion workout ,,, and back to some shoulder soreness. It is a little easier on my knees than cardio belly dance (alone) is ... and my knees point to underlying problem.

I am a member of no gym or studio and have no real exercise or workout equipment at home ...

I have to go back to my regular dance workout routine today.

It's just that my flat, diseased feet were hurting and my shoulders (mostly the anterior muscles) were in pain, so I had to do something a little milder.

But it is not the more-than-adequate routine it even fairly recently had been.

54 minutes - back to my main (toughest) Cardio Belly Dance workout ...

Did not do the full 56 minutes (mp3s on iTunes kept stopping, so I kept fast-forwarding ... in between choppy periods of silence ...)

After several days in a row of doing my Cardio Bhangra Belly Dance Fusion workout, this workout seemed a little easy ... and... I still remembered the moves ... with my hips being in better (more flexible) shape due to all the plies and demi-plies (in cardio intensity) in the bhangra workout ... also maybe my Flexibility Formula (but I always took that ... I certainly am not vegetarian or something dietary which is supposed to improve flexibility ...)

Started out with Pilates, picking up trash in the alley, and riding exercise bike. Tonight I get to teach belly dance!

Mine did not go to my tush hardly at all (because of hanging skin via major weight loss over 10 years ago, while in middle-age!). Mostly, my arms became defined and thighs got toned. The weight piled on ever so slightly, in that muscle weighs more than fat per cubic inch, that's why. Hips may have got smaller but waist got really smaller, & then slightly more defined with respect to hips getting smaller, too. Booty exercises are not indicated when cardio must be done in heaviest rotation ...

Yes!

More biking, push ups, walking, and stretching for me.

I'm also adding some booty exercises to try to get some curves back again!

Yesterday I did 63 minutes of my Bhangra Belly Dance fusion workout at home ...

Moved it and lost it! (Just kidding ... actually I regained much needed weight .. it got redistributed some place! )

Belly dance is the cardio that WORKS!

Well, I'd actually done the most camels and shimmies last night in a fairly long time, while re-choreographing a section of my Cardio Bhangra Bellydance fusion workout. For about 20 minutes. DON'T ASK! I WAS formally trained in belly dance. That particular movement session, called for my hip-scarf!

Belly dance happens!!
