Since the quarantine started, I have taken three pickup truckloads to the dump and one load to the goodwill donation center.

Gave my Foosball table away too!

I have been away from Spark for awhile but have made progress on my basement.

I bought the book "Decluttering at the speed of life". It has helped.

A few notes back I was wishing on a person to come along side and keep me focused as well as do some lifting... As the month went on I fine-tuned "talking to myself" to help make the decisions of what to do with things and how to keep focused. Hubby came in and "caught me " once and asked who I was talking to ... Laughing I said "my little helper...I talk to me and then I keep working at it" He said it must be Hank's sister, referring to the imaginary friend our son had many years ago and we still reference him when something is misplaced or unusual "Hank must have done it..." so now Hank's sister is my imaginary friend that helps with the sorting and cleaning. I think I shall call her Harriett.

You might see if a consignment or used furniture store would take those items. Or you could put an item out at the curb with a free sign and then maybe that treasure hunter will find them. I did that with a bookcase when we were given a nicer piece for my dining room---the people that got it were thrilled to take it. And all we had to do was get it out of the house onto the curb.

Willpower to get rid of some larger items. Have 2 square deck dining tables and a cedar bench in mind. They're in terrific shape, just not used anymore. Hoping what has become my clutter might be someone else's treasure.

Thanks for the encouragement - I know hubby will help if I ask - am learning to have one or two specific thins for him to lift or carry and he is more than willing - clear the path and define the need - WE SHALL OVERCOME!!! And he DOES delight in a clean area of the house!!!

I am thinking you just feel overwhelmed when you tackle these projects. Use the timer---set it for 10 minutes and do what you can, then you can walk away from it and if you feel okay about it, take that break and then go back and set the timer again. You will be amazed about how this really does help motivate you. And as you get into it, you can set the timer for longer periods--but always do something for you afterwards, even if just going and putting your feet up---I do it to earn computer time for myself.

LINDAF49: Good idea. Doing a little each day and maybe a little more the next, will keep you strong and maybe help you get stronger. Perhaps you could negotiate with hubby? Doing what might be one of his chores for him would free up his time to help you with yours. Could he refuse you if you ask nicely and aren't too demanding? A little at a time for each of you -- and me, too!

I most need someone to physically be here to come along side - my lifting is limited, my energy is low and I'm NOT good at asking hubby to help since he is busy doing his own thing - The greatest strides I have made in the past was having a younger strong person here to do as I directed traffic or made decisions but that is not an option right now so will keep doing a little each day.

I need some serious MOTIVATION!!!

For cleaning, my entire room is chaos. I have so much to do. Once that's done, I need to clean my closet, my studio space, my food storage area, and the yard. I eventually need to go through the storage room as well, and sort out whatever I have in there.

There are lots of great ideas here on old posts/topics---that is one place to look---and often there are links to other great sites.
My suggestion is decide which one of thoee rooms will be the holding room while you work on the other 2---and by holding I mean the place to put donations or yard sale items until you are ready to get them out. Pick one room--the room you use the most would be my suggestion---start at one side of the door, working in small areas until you have made it around the room--set a timer so as not to feel overwhelmed---when the timer goes off, give yoursefl a break---I use it as giving me so much time of the computer---if you feel overwhelmed, walk away for the day and do other stuff---if you are up to it, go back after the timer goes off again and repeat. The thing to remember is that if you don't love it or use it, it needs to go. You can start a maybe box and once it is filled, put a date on it--say 6 months from then---if you haven't needed anything in that box at that date, then you know you can donate or sell it. Hope these ideas help.

Most people who have cleaners come in can do it themselves---now, I get having someone come in for deep cleaning and straightening up for that---and those people generally pitch in and help the cleaner. My cleaner---dh ----is definitely been slacking lately---LOL

Sometimes it is just knowing you can still do a few things for yourself. There is so much independence that I have lost in the last few years. I have not have help now but is often hard to accept emotionally.

No maid for me. That would mean she'd see the messy private rooms that I keep closed off to all but DH. Maybe that should be my goal -- get the rooms spiffed up and then call in the maid!

Spare bedrooms - I do use them for many other purposes, but I DO use them as guestrooms, and my life would be spared a lot of panic when I hear that someone is coming for an overnight or weekend visit. I just need to do better at keeping things put away in them, and need to stop using them as "dumping" places for armloads of undone projects. (i.e. mending piles, gifts that need wrapped, to-sell-on-Ebay items, boxes of Goodwill items, etc.)

My bedroom high on list. Where does everyone put their stuff when they are done with and don't know where to put it. Or to lazy to take to attic. My bedroom. SO I have finally started putting it back in their rooms. I just feel so overwhelmed. I have made progress on rest of house and it is presentable. So bedroom and attic are what is left ,

Hi! I'm new to this team and this will be my first response to this question.

Ummmmmm....Two things.
#1 My home school library. I need to invest in the MOST IMPORTANT and STREAMLINED books and get rid of extra books that cover the same topics. Clean desk (s). And keep the children's school book/papers organized and together.
#2 MY BEDROOM. It's really just a STORAGE room and there's no excuse for it now that we live in a house more than DOUBLE the size of our old one. So I need to get rid of lots of odds and ends that always seem to be oozing out of drawers, from under the bed. etc.
(we are a family of 11, so it gets tricky.)

We bought one of those small tower bookcases and hung it on the wall in our small hallway between our 2 bedrooms--the bathroom door hides it when open---we have the cat little below it which is why we hung it. Then bought plastic bins that just fit nicely in the niches and that is where my dh has most of his wide assortment of meds---there is also one that you can buy that has a door at the bottom covering the bottom shelves and the top 2 shelves are open. We keep extra general meds there---my dh is anal about being afraid he will run out of anything. Hope this idea helps---they are not that expensive and do offer a lot of storage for meds.

I need a better way of storing my medications, rubs and pill boxes. Any suggestions?

My caregiver and I decluttered my closet today. 4 boxes that have been there for 18 months and 2 trashbags of stuff to the dumpster and a large bag of papers to take to the bank and have shredded. GONE!

Purge what you can---you are on a tight deadline right now---but when you go to unpack, be ruthless and if you don't use it or love it, get rid of it. Sure hope you can just toss stuff in boxes to donate if you do a quick sort as you pack.

I'm moving this weekend, and am not nearly done packing! My top priorities are the kitchen and the office.

I'm trying to purge as I go, but I still feel like I have way too many boxes of stuff coming along with me!

LOL, no, that won't work---pick a room, then pick a corner, then pick a shelf or a drawer and start with that---slowly move your way around the room---and remember, if you don't love it and use it---get rid of it!

Where to begin. I want to start everywhere at the same time, but obviously that won't work.

My guest room is a disaster!!! Here's what needs to get done:

Go through all storage areas (dresser, closets, under bed, steamer trunks, night stand, junk on the bed, junk on the floor) and organize everything. I also need to purge. I have so much clothing that I never wear, plus an excess of accessories and misc. junk.

Once that's done, I need to dust, vacuum, and change the bed linens.

My kitchen is a mess at the moment because my son is installing a new floor. It is my Christmas present.

I am having to cut back more on my own cleaning due to new health issues so I need to work more on making things more simple. Making new lists, cleaning our some more drawers and so on.

Well, the cleaning lady comes tomorrow so I need to tidy up the bedside tables, the kitchen and the living room. I'll put away all the ornament boxes, extra lights and Christmas packing. I'll finish the dishes and put them away, and I'll tidy up the living room. All around our piano lesson!
