Basically made my mileage, even if not quite, as the last day I didn't remember the exact mileage I needed and it was one of those scorcher days where I didn't want to do a lot of mileage.

150 biking miles
8/3 19.52 miles
8/10 13.4
8/12 6.55
8/14 7.84
8/17 40.6 miles (Lonest ride ever, and oh, I have no idea if I can go any further. My thighs were killing me at about 25 miles. Had to keep getting off and walk around a bit. But had to get home.)
8/21 7.51
8/23 25.9 (With my 14 year old son. He went his furthest yet and further than I expected him to go and has the sun burn to prove it. Not a bad burn. I keep meaning on longer exercise days to apply suntan lotion, but keep forgetting.)
8/25 7.61
8/28 7.89
8/31 13.16

Completed 149.98 miles

Sorry, I'm a little late posting this. I finished August with a total of 279 miles. I'll add it to the "To the moon" thread.

I'm up to 102 miles for the month, doing 4 or 6 miles most days. So should meet my goal of 100 miles. I've only been biking for 2 months, but I can tell my legs are getting stronger.

I did 25 miles today. Hubby and I were both almost out of water at the end. I need to put another second water cage on my new bike. I've been using a 2L camelbak but decided to just go with a single water bottle today in my cage and a second thing of bottled water in my bike trunk. Not enough for me! I'm a big water drinker on rides.

I'm up to 246 miles on the bike this month according to Endomondo.

3MAMAG, it's great you were able to get out and ride some!

I did 20 miles on Friday and 37.5 on Saturday. Saturday's ride was an organized ride in Sharon, Wisconsin that was awesome. I met the world record holder for biking cross country from Santa Monica Pier to the Empire State Building. Lon Haldeman. He set the record in 1982 and it hasn't been broken since. He did it in 9 days, 20 hours. I didn't know who Lon was when I first met him. I just went up to the sag wagon at the start of the ride because I was having trouble with my front brake. He not only quickly fixed it for me, but taught me how to adjust my v-brake myself. He was so nice! At the end of the ride (there was a pig roast), they announced who he was and all he had done for riding. I can sure attest to that ....given my brief encounter with him. He's a very nice man.

Anyway....I'm now up to 218 miles for biking for August according to Endomondo.

I finally got to ride today. We were out of town for the weekend and it has been raining here (I haven't graduated to riding in the rain yet). I found the "Track Your Route" feature & discovered that I am off for my mileage by about .07 miles for each mile. Oh, well...So, today I rode 3.93 miles and my legs were aching, but it felt so good to have the sun & wind on my face. I have a little over 103 miles to go to meet my goal. I am really going to have to push myself, since every weekend in August we are out of town. I am hoping I can stay on track :)

Did 23 miles yesterday....it was cool here yesterday too, so the ride was awesome. Total for month is now 163 according to Endomondo.....I'll add the August total at the end of the month to the moon. You are right...it is a long way to the moon. Endomondo tracks that for me too. I'm only 0.002 there with ALL my exercise.

Got in 30 yesterday, so that's something! Hoping this cool weather sticks around. It makes riding so much nicer.

And you should totally be adding your mileage to Bike to the Moon! It's a long way; we need all the help we can get!

Sigh, you may be right, MISSG. I'm not good at being patient, but I am good at obeying pain, and on the days I use my ankle too much (just for walking around, so far) it really lets me know.

This 5K is the second time I've made plans with this particular person, and the previous time I bailed with bronchitis as the excuse. I just don't want to be "that person" who keeps wimping out, y'know? It's definitely more fun being healthy.

How are the challenges going, gals? I know I'm falling off pace--yesterday I rode just two miles to the post office, and my legs were very much saying, "You're not serious about this, are you??"

But Saturday we are planning to go to a group ride that could be 30-40 miles, so I'd better get a couple of shorties in before that!!

No biking for me so far in August. I sprained my ankle the afternoon of the third, and I haven't tried to see how the bike feels. I think that it isolates side-to-side motion in the ankle pretty well, but I'm still swollen enough that I can't bend enough to go DOWN stairs with the bad ankle behind me - I think that pedaling my flex my toes up toward my knee even more than that. So we'll see. I'm hoping to heal fast enough to run a 5K in two weeks, but a friend at church today just LAUGHED at me when I said that. Patience is not one of my virtues.

Tomorrow is the big day! But it turns out that the MS150 is actually 165 miles long. Frowny face. But wow am I glad I learned this ahead of time instead of when I reached 75 miles and was nowhere near the finish line!

Hi all! I thought I would join this thread as I plan to be doing a lot of biking this month. I use Endomondo on my phone to map my rides. I'm at 14 miles for Aug. 1 and 2.

Luckydog, I live in Crossville TN so I know about the hills and riding! Actually, hubby and I are moving to Crossville full-time next spring after he retires. Right now, we are just down here for the summers and long weekends. We have taken our bikes to Nashville, Oak Ridge, Chattanooga and Knoxville to ride. I forget where you live, but if you ever want to do a really good training ride on a long, straight, relatively flat road, Oak Ridge Turnpike from the center of Oak Ridge out to I-40 has an awesome wide bike lane on each side of the road. We did that ride several times this summer. It's about 26 miles round trip from the center of town. It's very nice. The only thing is no shade!

I started out this morning going my 6-mile route, but then took a short-cut. I estimated I had only gone 5 miles. When I went to log it in on my fitness page, I discovered the "Map your route" feature and entered my trip. It turns out I did go 6 miles - even with the shortcut.

So, 6 this morning, 6 yesterday morning, and 2 last evening - I'm up to 14 miles.

Day 1: I biked 6 miles today. But, the great thing was that I shaved 2 minutes off my average time for 6 miles. I was sooo sweaty when I got home and it felt GREAT!

Day 2: I went for a 2 mile ride with my 7yr. old, that was my warm-up for my next 2 miles that went a lot faster. I got in 4 miles today and got to spend quality time with one of my babes.

Good for you, OgMama! I am really worried about the heat this weekend--75 miles when the high is supposed to be 91 degrees is a little scary to contemplate!

I went 6 miles early this morning, before it got hot -- although by that last mile, the sun was getting pretty high! But I did it!

My goal is to ride an hour a day, five days a week. Spin class and riding on my trainer will count. Michigan weather is unpredictable at best. I don't want to give myself an out.

Hmm, most of my rides are most for short errands around the neighborhood. Right now my odometer reads 445miles. By the end of August, I'd like to be up to 500 - 55miles in four weeks sounds reasonable :-)

There are many kinds of bikes, and they serve a lot of different purposes. Your hybrid sounds like it's doing the job for you, and that's all that really matters.

When I bought my current bike, I knew that I wanted a good bike for commuting: sturdy, able to support panniers, and strong enough for my weight. Would I now like a nimble little road bike? Sure, but not at the price of giving up my Giant. I can ride into town, pull a skirt over my bike shorts, slip on a blazer, and make a court appearance, files in hand. That's all thanks to carrying capacity on this bike. I love it.

i am pretty sure aerodynamics comes in to play a lot. the way the hybrid is set up, there are no aerodynamics. at least not any to brag about. unless i am bragging about how much of a head wind i can take on, hahaa!
i wish i could crouch down lower and still have some control over my bike, but its pretty limited because of the location of the brakes and gears.

right now i can do a 13.25 mile loop at my house in 1:06.

You can power a 36 pound bike up and down hills - I'm so jealous! Lotsa flat around me. I would assume on flat land the weight matters little and it's all about aerodynamics - do you find that to be true? (in the little bit of riding you get to do on flat land?)

if i can beat the heat here, my goal is 150 miles. i have been shooting for this all summer, so lets see! i have been training for a triathlon. it will be August 25, the P I Tri. it is a .35 mile swim, 13 mile bike and 3.5 mile run.

i just completed my first tri last weekend. it was a bit shorter. my challenge is to be able to get faster on the flat roads. i am so used to hills that when i have flat, i am at a loss. i have no advantage on the flat. Weird, right?

so, i know i can do 9 miles of flat roads in 35 minutes. i would like to be able to get the 13 miles in 40. i know it is going to be flat too. i dont even have 2 miles of flat around me to practice on.

another huge trouble. i ride a hybrid. it weighs 36 pounds. that is pretty heavy compared to the folks with road bikes. if there was so way to get my bike to go on a diet! i am running with max air in my tires thinking that would give less resistance. any other helpful ideas? we live in the middle of nowhere and i cannot afford to go driving around the state looking for flat land.

Wow, OGMAMA - you don't play around! My August goal isn't mileage - it's number of days riding. I will log at least 18 rides by the end of the month.

At age 55, I just started biking, if you don't count the riding I did as a kid, which stopped abruptly at age 16 when I got my driver's license and a car and never touched the bike again.

I have only had my bike for a month, and the most I have gone at one time is 4 miles.

So, I think 100 miles in August would be a great challenge for me.

My August goal is 125 miles. I'm trying to get in 25 miles per week and so far I have exceeded that. I'm hoping that I can keep it up. I have 3 small children so the only time I can go is when my husband is home and he has been great about giving me my riding time. I'm looking forward to this challenge!

Challenges for a bike forum are a bit...challenging. We all have different goals, and different levels of riding. So for August's challenge, please state your own mileage goal for the month. Let's see how many of us can meet and even beat our goal!

My August goal is going to be 350 miles of riding. Pedal to the Point will be 150 of that in one weekend, leaving me with 200 miles to pick up for the rest of the month.

What about the rest of you?
