FINALLY ... it's decent biking weather. It's hard to believe we've had two winter storms in the past week, but today is 70 with a medium breeze (in MN, that's 16 mph). For my first ride since early November, I picked the short loop - 9.8 miles with two decent hills. And I survived it, and could walk away from the bike to tell the tale.

I'm really looking forward to cycling through the summer. I hope to cycle every day between now and the end of April.

I came back from Turkey with a cough and cold, and was FINALLY able to get out today for a ride.

The weather was gorgeous: sunny with a slight breeze -- so I convinced my hubby to ride with me. We took a nice, slow, 5.5 mile ride around our back roads. It felt great just to get out there.

4/8 50 miles around mile 25 I took a pretty nasty fall got back up and finished. It seemed like slow motion...my tire went into the grass I hit a wooden fence and was thrown into the pavement. I knew it was going to happen but there was nothing I could do.. emoticon other than some missing skin and a banged elbow I'm ok. Wow first I get a dog bite and now a fall... emoticon

4/1: 0.2 miles Rode up and down the block a couple times in the captain seat on our tandem.

4/2: 0.4 miles Rode the tandem solo again today. Stopped on a side street to adjust out-of-reach mirror and promptly fell down while trying to start back up again! I'm okay...just skinned my knee.

4/3: No ride...I think I was shaken by the fall yesterday.

4/4: 1 mile. I found out what caused me to fall. It turns out the rear shifter cable has been tangled up in the rear wheel gears. It was like captaining the tandem with the brakes on. Today, as I was riding, I heard a "ping"....never a good sound to hear. It was my rear shifter cable starting to fray and getting tangled in the wheel. Fortunately, I was close to home and could coast most of the way there.

4/5: 0.5 miles on my old road bike. My son brought it over so I could have something else to ride. Spent most of the ride trying to get the mirror adjusted (never could) and realizing I had the wrong biking shoes on for this bike.

4/6: 1 mile on road bike. I got a new mirror for my helmet (love it) and some new bike shoes from the REI garage sale today (love them too!). Spent the ride testing out the new gear. It was raining and windy, but I wanted to get out. Total milage this month has been pitifully low, but it's been great for working out some kinks. Hubby and I decided to change the rear shifter cable ourselves on the tandem. It will be great practice for when we are out on our long distance tour later this year. We bought the cable today and studied YouTube videos on how to change it. It will be our project for tomorrow morning.

4/7 1.5 miles on road bike. Quick ride at that end of the day, just to get on the bike. We changed the rear shifter cable on the tandem in the afternoon and learned a lot about our bike in the process. The new cable turned out to be a tad short so we haved ordered another, longer, cable. It's great to know we can do things like that ourselves so that we can manage mechanical problem on the road during our tour.

Did they catch the dog? Are they sure it had had its shots? Don't be getting rabies or anything!

(I can't help it; I'm a worrier.)

Only a mile yesterday, 11 today. All stationary cycle.

I did report it but I was told there wasn't nothing that could be done. I didn't know where the dog came from and no one claimed it. No ride for me today....rain and more rain. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I'll get a nice long ride

Yes it just barely broke the skin, it scared the holy sh@@ out of me. the darn thing came out of no where and didn't make a sound until it got me. I felt a hit on my leg and that's when it started barking and chasing me. Luckily I outran it. I've rode that section lots of times and never noticed this dog before.

4/3: 19 miles, my first ride to court for the year. The ride there wasn't too bad because the wind was at my back, but riding back into a howling wind in 32 degree weather has me chilled to the bone!

4/1 - Today my calendar looked like an April Fool's Day joke: court at 8:30, hubby to doctor at 9:45, court at 11:30, court at 2:00, company for dinner at 6:00. Then there was the weather: 34 degrees and a howling wind.

In the midst of baking bread and making beef stroganoff, I ran downstairs and got on the stationary bike for 7 miles.

It was an ugly way to start the challenge, but at least it was something!

Sounds like a great plan. The weather is great here. May not be able to ride on days i go to bootcamp, But, maybe I can dride the stationary bike at the gym after bootcamp. I recently bought a mounatin bike , so now I have a road bike and mountain bike. For theose talking about bike shopping I have had very good luck with a local online garage sale site, you may try that in your area.

I will jump in but I am challenged right now.. the only bike I am riding is my spinning bike.. I am in the market for a new road bike.. there is no way I can keep riding my vintage Raligh.. I ,loved that hunk of steel and it really got me to get back into biking riding which I loved for years.. but I think I have advnaced to a top of the line entry road bike.. and well my purse has not advnaced to support it yet but I am on the look out.. so I hope to be riding by at least the 3rd week of April after we do our taxes and see if we get any money back which I highly dought.. but if I have to I will take "old bessy" out and give her a spin..
Good Luck everyone

I'm still waiting for warmer weather. We've seen one day with a temp of 50 -- but I don't have anything to keep my ears warm, and bikes + 50 degrees = frozen ears. The time is getting closer, though!

Today - high is 33. Too brisk. I'm looking forward to the first ride, though! The snow is mostly gone from the road shoulders.

I am going to go for it. It will be a real challenge but I am also planning on completing a duathlon on April 20th so I need to get in gear!! I will probably have to ride the stationary bike at the gym most days because I work full time and my neighborhood is not bike friendly.

Sorry to be late getting this up, ladies! Where did March go?!?!?!?

April is 30 Days of Biking month! Try to get on your bike for at least a little while every day of this month. You can join the community and take the pledge at http://30daysofbiking.com/

Let's see how many of us can accomplish this goal! I know I have one day that's going to be a serious challenge because I will be out of town, but there is a bike at the home of the people I'm visiting, so I plan on running off with it for at least a couple miles.
