Well I finished up the month with a 29 mile group ride tonight. Surprisingly, I felt pretty strong even after riding fairly long the day before. At one point we were heading directly into a strong headwind, and even though I was drafting off of another rider part of the time, it was pretty tough. So I ended up at 318, which was actually more than I had planned.

Thunderous applause to all who hung in there and kept riding all month! Soon to come--a challenge for June!

Today's ride brings my total to 105.11 miles for May. I'm please with my accomplishment, especially with riding hilly terrain for the majority of the mileage and with foregoing rides because of consistent rainy weather for two weeks at the beginning of the month.

Summer is here! Get out and ride as often as you can!
Keep Sparking!

338 miles for the month. Pleased with that as I originally put 250 for my goal as the weather wasn't looking very good for me.

Luvs2Bike --As long as the challenge got you out riding, that's the main thing. You have been consistent so kudosto you!

I got my longest ride of the year today with a 42 mile rail trail ride with my DBF. First time I have ridden it on my road bike. It is packed gravel but definitely firm enough & smooth enough that it was no problem. Supposed to do a group ride tomorrow.

Stay tuned for another challenge coming up in June!

As of the end of today, my total for the month is 92. It doesn't look like i'm going to reach my ultimate goal of 175. But, I must say I'm not disappointed because I rode every day it wasn't raining. There are some things we cannot control. Weather is one of them. Rain is in the forecast tomorrow (Monday). But, Tuesday looks good for a long ride......just not 75 miles worth. I continue to do my best. Happy trails!!! And, keep Sparking!

311 miles for the month now. 2 days to go. I hope to make 325 with an outside hope of 350 but I won't beat myself up if I don't get to 350. The hills around here are making rides shorter than they were in Norfolk where it was just rolling, not lumpy terrain.

Took advantage of having the day off today to get in a 25 mile ride. It was threatening rain most of the day but stayed dry till this evening.

So that makes 56 for the week (oh so close to 60) and and 247 so I have made my monthly goal. Still hope to get in a couple rides the rest of the month weather-permitting.

My latest update:

Sunday--8 miles--short casual ride with a big group

Tuesday--23 miles--with the "fast" group that I've been riding with. It was the first time that I averaged over 15 mph on a ride--15.25!

So my totals thus far: 31 for the week and 222 for the month. Almost there!

How are the rest of you doing?

My friend/former cycling coach came over yesterday and we rode 22 miles Weather was perfect--in the 60's! So that makes 45 for the week so far and 153 for the month.

Weather looking good for weekend and have 2 rides tomorrow. In morning DBF and I and some friends are doing a "donut' ride to the Amish bakery and then club bike ride is later in the afternoon. Think each of those rides about 16-17ish miles. The morning ride especially, will probably be pretty laid back.

How's everyone else doing?

A little cool and a little spit of rain, but overall a good ride tonight--23 miles. It was a pretty hilly ride, but I am learning how to negotiate the rollers at least. Held my own with this relatively fast group, although it is still a challenge riding with them.

Meeting tomorrow night, but scheduled to ride with a friend on Thursday!

2 more rides since my last posting. I am up to 208 miles for the month so far. 42 miles to target but I think that I might well add another 60 miles to it sometime during the week. I'm not adding them quite yet as I don't want to tempt fate and then get run over by a bus or something.

Great day for a ride.....9.25 miles on back country road. My total this week is 30.25 miles!
Throughout today's ride, the sights and sounds of the birds in the trees, meadows and ponds grabbed my attention to stop and look. I'm glad I did. Such beautiful Baltimore Orioles, Goldfinches, Canadian Geese and Mallards!!!

I did beat the rain yesterday! Got in a 17 mile bike ride and a good thing too, since today is not looking promising with highs only in the low to mid-40's and 20 mph winds. Not my favorite thing.

So that puts me at 50 miles for the week, pending the outcome of today. That's about 10 miles short for the week, but overall at 128 for the month so just a tad ahead.

How's everyone else doing? I know some of you may be having similar weather issues to what I'm having lately.

Had a meeting right after work Tues plus kind of crappy weather so no riding that day. Yesterday the weather was about 70 and beautiful so I got 15 miles in before going to the Y. Let's see, that makes 25 for the week so far and up to 103 for the month as of yesterday.

Supposed to ride with a friend tonight after work, assuming the rain quits before then (it's supposed to!). Hoping for maybe 20-25 tonight.

Back from my Norfolk sojourn. Went back to see if I was really really homesick or if I just really missed my old dog. Seems it was the dog. The noise, litter, traffic, noise and general citiness of the place was awful. Did I mention the noise!

Anyway, only one ride (had to do the visiting cousin, friends etc thing today. That and drive 400 miles home) which was yesterday. A good, solid 50 miles. 36 off road, 14.25 on road. 1 puncture, 1 stop for a cup of tea and a flapjack and a couple of water top-ups for my bidon.

112 for the month now.
Anyway, for anyone on Strava, the ride is here: https://www.strava.com/activities/57007238

Luvs2Bike--that is how I am afraid next week is looking around here. Glad you are getting some exercise anyway. Hope skies clear for you soon!

I biked 12 miles at the Spinathon this morning & then 11 on the cruiser bike at the bike club. So total of 23 today. Added to what I have already this week I have a total of 78 this week. Good that I'm ahead of my plan with the probability of rain this coming week.

Way to go Raffi on getting another solid 25 in and enjoying the good weather!

Rebecca--don't blame you for your reasoning, my DBF lives an hour away and I only see him on weekends too. Luckily, sometimes we bike together! Can you ever take your bike on the train?

As for me, I did 30 miles last night with the group, so I am up to 55 for the week (and month). It was a hard ride for me as we were dealing with a northwest headwind that hadn't died down like it was supposed to. Plus my legs were just really heavy, so really slogging especially toward the end. Maybe some of it was carryover from Tue. These are definitely the two longest rides so far this year.

I haven't given up yet, but it looks like Friday is my first dry day, and I'm not going to be able to ride to work 'cause I need to leave straight after my last meeting of the day to catch my train to new york. I will try for a short spin tomorrow but driving to Norfolk (370 miles) for the weekend, so it will be a quick spin.

I set myself a goal on the bike month website of 300 miles - an easy 10 miles per day (I get that if I just bike to work and home) but then it's rained heavily every day so far this month and I haven't gone out yet! I think I still want to try for 300. Weather.com says it will rain off and on in New York this weekend, so maybe I'll try out a CitiBike.

I have set myself a 250 mile goal for May. I'd prefer to hit about 325 or so but, it's hilly here and I've not found my hill climbing legs as yet, so 250 it is.

So far I have ridden:
10.05 on Sunday
15.27 on Monday
12.07 on Tuesday.

So just over 37 miles so far and the sun is shining. Day off riding today as I've been busy doing stuff but hoping to get a good 25+ in tomorrow.

I'm on my way--25 miles tonight on a fun and challenging group ride! Hopefully will ride with them again on Thursday, weather-permitting!

35 miles to go this week (60 - 25) and overall 215 (240-25) to go.

Good idea --- I'll aim for 70 kilometres (we use Metric in Canada) per week for a month total of 280K.

Let's do a challenge for May! Decide in the next few days what goal you want to meet and report in here once a week (or oftener if it keeps you on track). Then at the end of the month, let's see how close each of us is to our goal. It's not a competition between any of us, but a challenge to each. Everyone is at a different place in their riding.

You can track total miles for the month--if you do then break out how many you want to average per week to get there. You can track the total minutes for the month, and again, break it down to an average per week. Or you can simply have a goal for a number of rides (of any length) that you want to have for the month.

OK here are my goals for the month. I am going to track from May 1--May 28 for an even four weeks:

*My mileage goal is going to be 240 miles or 60 miles a week.

*My number of rides is going to be 16 or 4 rides per week.

Anyone want to join me? What are your goals? Remember it can be whatever is doable for you--not so hard you have no chance of getting to your goal or so easy that it's not challenging.

Happy riding!
Deb
