Oh yikes...it's been a couple of weeks and I'm no further along than ever. I had a string of several days going, but then...well...

But I do want to hear what's going on with you Carren!

Still trailing way behind that wagon... But there've been some things going on that have been distracting me. I'll share the details soon.

What do you say? Shall we get back at this?

I have fallen WAY off the wagon. Memorial Day weekend was supposed to be about getting things accomplished - it ended up being about sleep. To the point where I didn't manage to get out of my pajamas on Monday.

Gotta get back on track this week. If I could only wake up....

Katie....that sounds so cool! How did you get involved in this?

I blew it big time yesterday with about 3 steps backward. Hopefully back at it today, although the things on my schedule today (the rainiest day of the weekend) include a lot of sedentary things like paperwork, laundry, etc.

Make the most of the long weekend everybody!

I was at the Environmental Initiative awards last night and was seated next to the representatives from the Twins for their Go Twins Go Green campaign! They made all concession accoutrements out of compostable material, so now everything at Target Field should be recycled or composted. They are doing a great job trying to be the greenest park in North America! Such a kick!

Speaking of kicks, I need to kick myself back into gear and health.

Take 2....I had a reply written and poof! I do that quite often lately. Ugh!

Like Candy said further down the thread, I don't often have time for the computer in the daytime and then don't often get on in the evening either. I did much better when I had a desktop computer. I know the laptop is supposed to be more convenient, but for me it hasn't really worked out that way. A little slower morning today, so thought I'd better get over here while I had the chance.

Yea Carren! I'd love your schedule! Of course, I know you worked your butt off leading up to this, and you have definitely earned it.

I'm still working on trying to add 500 steps to my daily total day after day. Most days I make it. But my average had gotten so low while I was sick, it's really hard to dig out of the hole I've put myself in. Kind of like the Twins, right?

Still feeling the effects from the pneumonia a couple of weeks ago, but improving all the time. No more excuses coming from this corner! Let's all do this!

Ahh, you were just down the road from me! Sorry you didn't have the greatest weather for your visit (and sorry it seems to have followed you back home!). I think today is the first day I've truly seen the sun in a week.

It's always tough to get back into regular life after a vacation - even a short one. I'm planning to do a lot of cleaning over the Memorial Day weekend in hopes of avoiding the down time slump

So, day 2 in the books for me: did pretty good on calories (actually had to eat a little something late to get into range) and macro balance. Went way over on sodium again, and fell really short on water. Not a great combination there!

Since it's actually nice here to day, I'm planning to go for a walk when I get home. My Zumba class ended this Monday, and the next one doesn't start for a few weeks, so I've got to make up for that and get into a walking routine.

Congratulations on making it through another school year! Yay summer! I had a long weekend in NYC with plenty of walking (yay!) and plenty of food (delicious! but not good for the waistline!) and haven't quite gotten back in the swing of things now that I'm home. I have things planned every day after work and that's always the hardest (and is why I play on sports teams -- it's better when those things after work are also the exercise!)

Memorial Day will be a good chance to regroup -- we'll be at the cabin with a great walking/running/biking trail nearby and town a short walk away. I need to keep remembering to focus on the hunger scale and whether I need to eat or if I just want to!

Hope all are doing well on this rainy Minnesota day!

Day 1 (reboot edition) complete!

Got in my Zumba class and water. Tracked my food pretty well until evening. I know I went overbudget on carbs and salt yesterday. Things to work on for today!

Here we go, day 2!

Well, I am out of excuses. Worked my last concerts for the season on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For this university employee, it is officially SUMMER! Which means I am going to focus on me and what I need to do to regain control of my life now. emoticon

So, day 1, here I come!

Candy,

Hang in there! I know, the emotional stress is usually more exhausting then the actual work!
Congrats on keeping up with your tracking, exercise and water intake. Even if you're not getting 100% accuracy, you're making good progress!

As far as the scale - just remember that's a snapshot of a specific point in time. How it changes over the course of weeks is the real test.

I have to admit, if a Twins player played as badly as I've slept, tracked and exercised this week, they'd get sent down to A ball. emoticon

I've really be struggling with food this week - haven't made the time to pack lunch for work, and haven't had the energy to cook when I get home. (OK, let's be honest - I've been too lazy to cook when I get home.) Didn't help that a colleague had leftover goodies from a meeting, and they were left right outside my office.

I've got to get back to tracking, and I've got to start drinking more water. I'm caught in this vicious cycle of not sleeping because I've had too much caffeine, then I have more caffeine to keep me alert at work.

I have been having a heck of a time getting back to the computer at night to post and no time to post in the mornings.
Work is keeping me busy and stressing me out. I fall asleep on the couch early in the evenings. I have been getting in some kind of exercise everyday, getting in my water and track , most of my food intake.
Tomorrow is my weigh in day and the scale hasn't been my friend lately. Hoping for a loss even if it is a small loss.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Sounds like we've all had some setbacks this week, but hopefully everybody is back on track. I'm doing ok with my goal of adding an extra 500 steps per day MOST days, staying close to even on the days I missed goal.

Still haven't got back to tracking yet either. (((sigh))) It wouldn't be hard for me, I've got an extended list of favorites that I tend to stick pretty close to, so it's more or less just point and click. I just can't get motivated to do it! Once I start and establish the routine it won't take long to do it daily but for now I guess I'll focus on my steps. The meds I'm on for the pneumonia and UTI have pretty much destroyed my appetite anyway!

Anyway, here's to a successful humpday for everybody!

I've found another trigger for myself: working from home. I have a standing desk at work, two monitors, and an office full of people to wander around and talk to if I need a short break. At home, I usually plop on my couch with my laptop and stay there. I worry about going for a walk or even getting up to cook because I feel like I need to be extra responsive so no one objects to me working from home (didn't have much of a choice -- car trouble). I raided the candy jar, the package of graham crackers, and made myself a protein shake even though I didn't do the exercise to justify needing a protein shake. Sigh.

Tonight I'm going for a walk with my friend and her dog to catch up on life, and I'm back at work with a packed lunch, so I'm getting back on track....again. My these tracks are slippery!

Katie,
Way to keep moving! I'm struggling with that a bit. I did walk around a little during my lunch break yesterday, and did go to Zumba, but you are really making it happen! emoticon

I wish I had a good answer for the 'brownie situation'. I tend to overdo it when I have sweets available, too!

Sharon,
Do you have the SparkPeople app on your phone? If not, try it out! I particularly like the barcode scanner - it can save some time. And if you don't currently, make use of favorites and groups. I eat pretty much the same breakfast every morning, so those foods are saved as a group. One click, and everything is added.

Sorry all - you can probably tell I fell off the cliff this weekend! And I can explain the downfall in one word - SLEEP! emoticon

I've noticed that when I'm tired, I tend to overeat. Well, a couple nights of poor sleep sent me into a tailspin. Luckily, the stress of commencement is over, jury duty is over, so hopefully I can get back to a better sleep pattern, as well as a better eating and exercise pattern.

I went to Zumba last night, but was really having trouble pushing through the exercises, so I can't say I got the full benefit.

Hopefully the rain holds off tonight, and I can go for a walk when I get home.

I have some tracking to do! Went for a great run yesterday with a friend. We did 5.5 intervals of 8 minutes running, 1 minute walking. Eating has continued to be...iffy. I made sure to have plenty of broccoli, but red potatoes and bbq chicken and then the caramel brownies. Oh, the caramel brownies! Does anyone have good strategies when faced with a whole pan of caramel brownies? I relied on DH to keep me to 2, but I sure wanted more!

I'm not tracking as well as I should, and when I tried this morning to put in my food for the day as I knew it, based on what I packed for lunch....I have to undo it because my aunt called and took me to lunch with my mom. Oops!

Bright side basics:

Last night after work I wanted to sit and watch tv until DH got home but I put on my shoes and went for a 3-mile run instead. Yay! It was my perfect running weather - overcast and 50s - so it felt good. We had a late dinner because we went grocery shopping first, but it was veggie-ful tacos with ground turkey instead of ground beef, so I'm good with that.

Am hoping to stay on track with another run after work tonight! I'm also deciding whether to cancel my gym membership. It's easy to say I don't need it now that it's light so long and warm, but will I miss it in Nov-April if I cancel it? It costs me very little per month ($2) if I go 12 times a month (thank you, BCBS!), but haven't made it enough times since February. Eek!

Oh boy....all you trackers are making me squirm a bit -- I gave up tracking over a year ago. I know I do better when I do it, but nowadays my days are so busy it's hard to squeeze in that extra task. I'm going to try to get back into it for one week, and maybe I'll find it's easier than I think. That will be goal #2.

Goal #1 is not moving along as quickly as I'd hoped either, but I'll keep plugging along. I wasn't able to add the extra 500 steps yesterday. I had a long overdue and much needed hair appointment, and nearly 3 hours in the chair, followed by cleaning up the house when I got home to be ready for daycare today....I didn't work out. No excuses today though!

Happy Friday and good luck to us all!

Just saw your post- I have been trying to get back on track. I too am good at tracking my breakfast and lunch and fall apart at dinner. I have been getting in my 8 glasses of water and I have been exercising 5-6 days a week.

I will try to get here to post dailiy

Welcome, Katie!

You are always one of my workout inspirations - I love seeing 'hockey' in your blogs and posts. emoticon Hockey's a sport I've been slow to embrace (I never really learned to skate - I'm a mutant Minnesotan!), but have been watching it more since my siblings got into it. It looks like it would be a great workout.

I'm often guilty of tracking breakfast and lunch but not dinner (or nighttime snacks!) too. Tracking during the day is an excuse for a mini-break at work, so I'm right on top of it. Also, since I try to bring my lunch, I usually know exactly what I'm eating. I'm not always so careful at night.

Just finished tracking my food for the day, and surprised myself by staying in my calorie range. I'll post a fuller report tomorrow.

Have a good night!

Thanks for the reminder about the water! I had a charley horse and didn't connect it to hydration, but I've had a week of heavy duty hockey clinics Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, so it's definitely possible!

I'm needing to get back to basics too after a round of BLC where I ended up 0.2 pounds -- not what I was going for, but I also know I didn't change my habits (daily ice cream? not so advisable) and am now ready to go for it.

Last night was a hockey night, so fitness was taken care of. We ended with forward herbies (sprint to the blue line, coast the rest of the ice, short break, back the other way to the red line, then the far blue, etc.) -- that's a good reminder to up my non-hockey cardio!

I tracked breakfast and lunch from work but never went back to track dinner and how will I use the information effectively if I don't have it all? Time to go back to tracking! Thanks for the motivation and nudge towards a better life!

Sharon! So glad to see you - I was worried about you (and it sounds like I had reason to be!)

This challenge, for me, goes back to that old baseball cliche "not trying to do too much." I'm can't go from couch potato to athlete overnight, and trying to do that just sets me up for a fall. Instead, I'm focusing on little things that are the foundation of a healthy lifestyle - things not hard to do, but easy to forget or ignore.

So, here's my day 3 accomplishments (note they all have qualifiers!):
* stayed in calorie range (even with a relatively huge dinner!)
* got in 500 steps (most of them walking to an ice cream shop for a end of term outing with my student workers.)
* drank 8 glasses of water (though most of them after 8 p.m.)

I also got a big reminder of why I need to stay hydrated. I got charley horses in both legs last night - super painful! I'm sure it was primarily a result of not drinking enough water during the day. The water bottle is front and center on my desk today!

Well I sure need to get back to basics! My steps are still frightfully low as I recover from pneumonia in addition to my rotator cuff surgery. What a year it has been! But my goal will be to increase my steps by at least 500 per day until I get back up to speed.

Now....can the Twins make their improvements too? What a dismal year!

So, here's my Monday 'done' list:
* Tracked my food intake
* stayed in my calorie range
* exercised for 50 minues (go Zumba!)

I know, I'm sort of cheating listing accomplishments achieved before the challenge was posted, but this gives you an idea of what I'm thinking. But don't limit yourself to what I've listed - list whatever you feel builds your healthy lifestyle.

The more we share, the more successful we'll all be.

After watching the Twins play some really bad baseball this season, I'm reminded that sometimes you just have to get back to basics to pull out of a slump.

So, I'm challenging you, my teammates, to work on your fundamentals this week! Simply post on this thread when you've successfully completed a basic for the day - tracked your food, exercised, cooked a healthy meal, etc.

Goodies and shout outs to the participants! Let's get ourselves on a hot streak. Hopefully, the Twins will follow suit!
