I have drug my feet through this whole challenge-I forget how long ago I started it. I am glad I stuck with it and did not breeze blindly through the steps. At first I denied I had "real" stress and finally realized I did although it was not the extreme stress response I viewed as stress. From there I got serious addressing it. I tried a variety of things but discovered the major source of stress was how I perceived things. I started a 10 minute program a day of writing down all my "bad" thought patterns such as "Why does this always happen to me?" and developing more productive thoughts. "Things happen to everyone it is the ups and downs of life. Now what are you going to do about the situation?" I call it my anti-pity pot method. I am feeling more positive about my ability to cope and my relationships with others.

Yesterday I was expecting two major stressors - having my old dog put to sleep and the last day of work for a choreworker who I really like.

Every time I found myself getting tense, I would remind myself to breathe and then I would pray.

It went well. I was able to be supportive of the choreworker and also I was able to comfort my old dog during the procedure.

I've identified two major stressors this week and focused on how to handle them. Most of my action steps for those stressors involve planning ahead and also having a method to cope if the stress gets to me. Getting adequate sleep and planning ahead have really helped me get through a stressful time. I think planning ahead is probably going to be most effective for me. Workouts (when I can) and finding some "me" time every day are two techniques I'm trying for reducing daily stress. It's a work in progress!

I'm having some success modifying stress levels with adequate sleep, yoga, and hot baths. I'm also starting to recognize when I START to get stressed, and doing some gentle deep breathing to calm myself down before things get too unpleasant. All in all, the ten minutes a day and the breathing are doing me a lot of good.

For week 3 - I ended up on vacation :) -- making it through airport security with 3 girls was a bit of a task, but we kept a positive attitude and the liquids that needed to be thrown away, went under the VISA rule - they larned a lesson and I kept it even keel. Our vacation was great, we went to Disney World and Universal Studios - but we are also glad to be back home!!!!

Feel like I am doing pretty good. This would normally be my most stressful time of year at work and my co workers since to try to make it even more. We have early cutoffs for purchases and such at the end of our FY they always seem to have no idea of cutoffs. I am a little hyper!

It is kind of peculiar.
I know I have some stress but since I have started this challenge it seems that is has increased. Yikes!
Not what I expected.
Funny enough the suggestion for week three to take ten minutes a day for relaxation I am already practicing and the stress factors are beyond any doubt work and the relationship.
Will be working on it.
Have a good week all!

Every season has its charm.

Week 3: I'm very happy with how this week went. I was able to get re-focused on my healthy lifestyle journey. Stress had been mild to moderate. Mostly just trying to keep a peaceful perspective both at work and at home. Needed to say no to a few things in order to keep stress manageable. The more I experience positive stress management, the more I want to stay in that mode.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.

This week was the last week of the manager being on vacation. Friday was the worst day of the week for stress. When nobody else was on a break, I took mine and called my husband. I told him that I needed a big hug when I got home. Unfortunately, I did take an anxiety pill, but I made it through the rest of the day.
Talking with my husband when feeling stressed seems to help me a lot. Also I found myself saying that I wished we could go scuba diving this weekend, which I think is going to become something we do more often, provided we find a place fairly close to home.

I had a very stressful morning and I made a choice to walk away from food that called me. I busied myself doing something else and the desire for food passed. emoticon

WEEK 3: Been a very stressful week at work, one manager on vacation, one out sick so that left me the only manager for the last 4 days. But today is finally a day off, the sick one is better. I did have a couple times where I reached for food to deal with stress, but then I decided to do my best and if that wasn't good enough then too bad. The owners son whos 18 was in charge a couple nights which wasn't the best idea but I wasn't there so that was okay with me, two 15 hour days out of 4 was enough with the other 2 being 8 hour days. But I think I handled the stress okay.

I've been working on a more positive outlook. For example, I was supposed to get my haircut today which would have kept me out of the pool with my kids. I had to change my appointment last night because my son came home in the afternoon and fell asleep. This is never a good sign. He woke up fine, I'll get my haircut on Friday instead and I can get in some swimming while my youngest is in lessons. I also am trying to plan more fun things to do with my kids this week while they are home from camps and school. We went bowling today.

This morning I spent 10 minutes in quiet meditation. It helped I think because I was very upset about some things going on in my life. The meditation has helped me deal with a trip coming up that o don't want to go on. And honestly (I'm venting here please excuse me) I'm sick and tired of my husbands family. For them to be four hours away you would swear the all live with us. They all are a constant and exhausting presence in my home and life. I get along with all of them but I don't choose to have to deal with ever single little thing in their lives. Its exhausting that not one of them can live their own lives on their own. My husband, and therefore myself as well, have to babysit all of them. He should just move back home so he can run their lives more efficiently. Done venting. Sorry and thanks for the outlet.

God helps those who help themselves.

Finding that giving in to my impulse to leave the house messy ends up with me getting really stressed out later - the peaceful clean house really helps. Also, I need to remember to take time for myself after being social - it recharges me. It's interesting finding the patterns of what stresses me out.

This challenge caused me to learn to journal more faithly. I still have minor and major stressors. Still learning to put my destressors into action. Gotta to remind myself to b r e a t h and lean on my faith.

Week 3 turned into a very long week --- family visiting, and the family visit was filled with drama; and bats in my dryer venting. It was a very stressful week. But I worked hard to remain calm and enjoyed every bit of sleep I could muster to help minimize the stress impacts.

The stress level right now is very high for me but last nite I did make a list of all the big stressors & next to it what I can do about it to make it better. I did feel like I had control by doing that & it helped alot. I also listened to some classical music & drank some camomile tea.

Week 3 has been a very stressful week. My dad had surgery and I was his caregiver. Though I need to go over again what week three involved in the instructions, I can see progress. I didn't choose healthy reactions the whole time but I did some of the time. For me that is progress! I continue to look to the Lord for my strength and peace in these stressful times. He is so faithful. emoticon

Having this challenge has made me look at my stress level more closely and different ways i can deal with issues. This week i started walking again which helps my stress and also in the evenings after i get home from work i get on my computer and get on pogo where i play games to unwind. i am making baby steps but like everything it takes time to change things.

The Challenge has forced me to put into words what is stressing me and I've found some very obvious stressors whereas a couple of others have taken me a bit by surprise.

It's been helpful to establish a morning routine which includes updating the Other Goals and the Weigh-in trackers. Even though I've had a bad night with too little sleep, I'm calming down and collecting myself for the new day.

I already know that one of my long-term stress reducing goals will be to include a routine of reflection every day, no matter how much I'd not like it on a specific day. It's when I don't keep track of emotions that things start going down the drain.

Thank you for this challenge!

Sometimes I've got to do several methods of calming for me.
Journaling has helped a great deal even if it's just to vent. Today I gave myself a pedicure & soaked my feet in a peppermint foot bath - did that feel good! and meditated for 5-10 min.

yahoo, I think I am catching on to this, I seem to be able to self-talk mysef from getting too stressed, just slow down breathe deeply, think things through, and I usually start to calm down, if I stop things before it gets into a full blown obsession, it seems to help me a lot!

Hubby has started helping me with the stress. He had me go out in the back yard with him and just stand next to the garage and watch hummingbirds flit around our back yard. Almost like meditation! Not doing so well on the journaling though. Yoga working pretty good though. Not as stressed as before but I know there will be good days and bad days. Just have to learn to deal with it as it comes.

Back under control, I realized that everytime this happens this woman succeeds to violate my life..so I am going to try my best to put her out of my mind, it isn't going to change a thing to be angry..so here I am calm again..lots of deep breathing, rationalizing, and walks..I will conquer this!

This week was a challenging one - spent alot of time in a vehicle (a confined space with others). Should have journaled more. Put my stress busting techniques to the test (wasn't always successful, but I was some of the time)! I'm glad to be back to a more normal routine.

Starting week 3, I must say I see a small improvement in myself..I find hubby trying hard to help me along the way! There is nothing worse than feeling stressed the biggest part of the time...I find if I just try to sort out in my mind why I feel stressed, and put my strategies in place, I can work my way out of it..Most of my stresses I place upon myself..I worry about other people too much...I worry about what people think of me..I stress out over my home..have this compulsion to have it spotless at all times..(inherited from my Mom, all her children have this trait, even the boys)My feelings are hurt very easily..causing more stress!
I am working hard on all of this, and I really think I have a good chance of de-stressing my life quite a bit..I'm on my way now!

I have been trying to check in with myself this week. I ask myself: "is this important right now? Is there any way I can alleviate the problem at the moment? Am I being positive about the situation?" If the answer is no to any of those, I stop and turn my mind around. It is really hard to stay consistent, but I am trying.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, and that is why it is called the "present".

Ive found the yoga and tai chi to be really helpful. I've been making it a point when I get stressed at work to get off by myself a couple of minutes and do the breathing. I'm making it a point to have some quiet wind-down time at the end of the day. The thing I really need to work on is being more positive and to nix the negative self talk

It is hard to believe that week three is over already. I have been using breathing techniques and visualization to help reduce stress. One of my biggest stressors is conflict. I have decided that when my husband and son get into a disagreement, I leave the area. It is not my problem and I can't own it. It is their issue and they need to solve their own problems. This challenge has been a big help.

Well, I don't journal as often as I should.
I'm following "mindful1perday" on twitter and every day they send me a "chime". that's when I stop and breathe, tell myself I'm having a great day, etc.

They have it for every hour too but that's a bit too much for me right now. Especially if I get a "chime" message while helping someone at work.

It's a really great way to remind me to stop! and just relax a bit. :)

I have used my favorite verse of scripture: "Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10 to remind myself to be still, de-stress, be quiet if I began to get frantic.
I have avoided the stressing situations - like when my adult son calls full of problems.
I have done some fun stuff, gone for walks with my husband, relaxed after work.

Haven't quite gotten into the habit of daily stress reduction, but I am reading at night, so I am taking some time for myself, which is a good start.

so I got rid of my weight goals, because as I am lifting, my weight is going up, but my body fat % is going down, so I don't want to discourage myself from being healthy...body fat % goals will be coming soon!

Week three is over already? I can't believe how fast time is flying. I am back on track with all areas of my life - eating, exercising and trying to get more sleep. I still have moments where I feel my stress level rising, but for the most part, I just really live by the addage that life is too short. I try to focus on positive ideas and surround myself with positive, loving and supportive people.

Into week 4 I go.

I had such a problem with this week, myself. It was a gravely hectic week ( we had someone die at work, she was someone who was very close to my heart.) I had to take time away from the computer and dig into exercising to work through it. This past week I have spent working on relaxation and stress relief with Tai Chi Breathing exercises, reading, and gardening.

Week 3 went easier for me than the first two. I've done yoga, meditated, knitted, exercised and removed myself physically from stressful situations or people. Just 10 minutes a day has made such a difference.

Must be something about week 3 that provides lots of reason to practice what we are learning. I've practiced some of my breathing techniques and also stretching A LOT to relieve some of the tension. This next week promises more of the same...........I hope I can stay on track and not revert to stress eating.

Gin, I'm not short.......I'm fun sized!!

I have tried the techniques that have been worring for me but here lately they have not been working. I really haven't felt good and everything seemed to just aggrevate me even more. I really have to work on it the next week. I will continue to keep my head up.
