There seems to be a bit of confusion among folk here - between the initial DAYS 1, 2, 3 that we see when we come to the site, and the actual week according to the printable page, which includes the rest/cross-training days.

Today was my Week1Day6 - schedule was for 1.5 mile walk, but it was raining till into the afternoon. So I spent the hour from 5.00 - 6.00pm watching TV while walking indoors. I also did my walking as intervals, so varying my speed between ordinary, medium and brisk.
I completed roughly 3.75 miles in about an hour! Calculated from the steps done.
Well pleased with myself, have to say.
I also did a fuller cool-down and more stretching than I've been doing up till now.
But I have to say, I am so looking forward to getting my feet and ankles onto the magnet pads tonight!

Walking about 5 miles/week, but that's all the exercise I am getting...so joined this group to keep on track and perhaps be able to up my miles. I'd like to walk twice a day - once when I get home.

Last night I did the 1 mile walk in about 20 minutes. I'm resting today or doing cross training and then will do the 1.5 mile on Thursday.

I didn't officially start until late last week, but it's less confusing if I keep everything on the same schedule which is Tuesday through Monday. So here's my report for the entire first week starting before I actually signed up.

I continued my regular walking schedule.
Day 1: 30 minutes
Day 2: 3.15 miles
Day 3: 3.15 miles

Week 1 is completed. Starting on week 2 tomorrow.

I guess because we started late in the week it didn't give us a full week 1. I am just going to follow the plan and disregard the weeks they note on it. My goal is to work up to the 5K by race day.. it doesn't matter what other days are involved!

I'd just like to add - I'm having problems with navigating this challenge site.
My "tick" on the button on Saturday - got lost. I re-ticked today - then got the 1 mile walk showing on My Fitness, again. So I checked back a couple fo days, and sure enough. that walk was still on Saturday's My fitness page.
So I deleted from today's page - and have now partially lost my running total for this 5 week challenge!

I've had a few other problems with the SP site this past several days, and it is so very unusual.

Diva-to-be: I have a similar problem - I did Week 1 Day 5 today - and got the email today and was jumped to Week 2.
It's because we started on a different day oft eh week from what the challenge is running. It seems to be working Monday to Sunday, despite most of SP things running Sunday to Saturday!
Oh well, I've reset my "thing" on my challenge page to Week 1, and I'll just continue with the programme that I printed out and noted up with days and dates.
I'll take note of what today's email said, and will apply myself to Week 2 starting on Thursday.
At the end of MY 5 weeks, I can press the button saying that I'm done.

An alternative option would be to just repeat a few days and start you Week 2 on Monday next week.

It's optional, and it's flexible.
I'd suggest that if you don't feel quite able yet to be progressing yourself through the days a bit quickly, that you take the extra few days for your Week 1, and just enjoy the increase in your ability as the days go past.
And always remember, you can repeat a week at any time. You don't have to go through the weeks in the schedule as though they're set in concrete. Make the challenge flexible to suit you. That is one of the huge benefits of many SP challenges.

Okay so I just recently joined, but I am officially starting this as week 1, day 1 and I opted for it to be an alternative day. We did an 11.5 mile bike ride, time was 100 minutes. Tomorrow will be my first day of the walking, but I walk a lot so I should easily be able to do that.

i joined on thursday but checked off that I had walked two days because I already had!! Doing 3 laps around the park each evening (ok took off Fri and Sat it was HOT) and that is 1.8 miles so doing okay with the walking. wear my hunting boots and break them in - that is the hardest part - race should be easy in tennis shoes!

I can do it!!

I signed up a few days ago. I wanted to do the virtual 5K..
I walk every day already.
Today I did 3 miles in a little less than an hour. I was slower than usual. My knee was sort of hurting. I have a bad left knee, going to have it replaced on 9/19/2011.
I walk early when it is cooler.
I then did water aerobics and walked more in the pool and 15 minutes of water jogging.
If it too hot or rainy I can walk on the Nordic Track I have here at home. Or at the gym.

Thrs. I did the 15 min walk; Fri I did 1 mile; and today I did 1.5 mile.

When I pull up the Training Planner I read it to be days 1-2-3 but then today I print out the printable version and it's more like an actual calendar with the "rest" days scheduled in. So ok, I did it wrong for week 1. So now I will try to follow the training calendar more accurately.

W1D3 - I walked the mile prescribed - 22 minutes.
I used to be able to walk a mile in just under 10 minutes but that's about 30 years ago, 2 children ago, and just over 60 lbs ago!
I like the idea of this 5 week programme. Building up gradually really does do the trick.

And it helps with the weight loss (or at least, no weight gain) as well.

Today was third day of what I would call my first week. Being visually impaired I walk virtually anywhere I want or need to go so walking to me seems such a part of my day to day routine. So what I have done was to add the extra walking time to my day and discounted my regular daily and fitness steps on those days. Sounds confusing at first but it all works out...I think...So...here goes...Day 1 walked 30 minutes Day 2 Walked 1.5 miles Day 3 walked 30 minutes and walked 1.5 mile laps. On the off days I did a total of 180 minutes cardio with silver sneakers, 75 minutes pool/ aqua-robics.

I signed up yesterday to do the beginner walk. I hurt my back and was down for a long time. I have just been released by my Dr for light exercise so I think this is the way to get me back in the swing of things. I am a true believer that slow and steady wins the race.

I signed up yesterday - so I manged W1D1: 15 minutes was 3/4 mile.
Today I forced myself to an activity I loathe, and that my various joints aren't always happy with - the Elliptical. I started off thinking 5 minutes, but reduced that midway and did 3 minutes. I'd rather be fit enough to do tomorrow's requirements than to knacker my chances so soon.
But at least, the machine is in the dining room at home here (which is why I have no dining room for dining in!). So I can do a few minutes, several times a day, and just work up the amount of time gradually - and hopefully strengthen my various joints as I go.

Tomorrow is W1D3 - and I have my 1 mile route in my head, ready to go. I just hope it's not raining tomorrow.

I haven't walked a 5K in ten years. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I had walked just over a mile in my first 15 minute walk. Now, I believe I can do this. Before, I thought I might start, then "check out". Today, my husband is home and we haven't seen each other in a week. Somehow, gonna fit that walk in anyway!

Today I did 1 mile at the dog park with our dogs in 30 minutes. This is a normal for me now. The race will be a first for me but I have walked more than 5k in the past. Since the many bad flares from Lupus over the past two years I need to build my endurance and speed back up. I am unable to run due to osteoarthritis in my knees and will certainly have to build up to this because of them.

This will be my 1st 10K. I walked today 2.6 miles in 35 minutes this is my usual walk. I signed up for the 10K. I have a nuroma on the bottom of my right foot so I don't know if this will be a stretch for me. I enjoy walking this is my "me" time. Good luck to everyone

Week 1/Day 1: Following the program, I walked 15 minutes (distance .74 miles). Glad I rejoined for another virtual 5K because I haven't been walking as much since I finished my last virtual race. I know it's going to feel good.
