I did a Pilates tape. It is very hard- going to stick with it.

7 DAY WHOLE FOOD, PLANT BASED, NO OIL, NO ALCOHOL, NO ADDED SALT OR ADDED SUGAR RESET!
So, the holidays are here. Thanksgiving is normally the entry into a 5 pound holiday weight gain for many of us, as less than healthy eating habits snowball during the rest of the December Holidays.

I will not be the one to tell you to deprive yourself during holiday get togethers, throughout this beautiful time of year!

But now that Thanksgiving weekend is over, how about trying a plant based clean eating reset, which will help you to lose weight, de-bloat, clear your skin, give you more energy and feel GREAT!?

(By the way, all of the following pictures included are from my grocery trips, so you can see what I normally purchase!)

For 7 days the basic goals are:

1. Eat as many plants/veggies from the ground as possible: not processed! Straight from the produce section of the grocery store. The more color, the better! Use this week as an opportunity to try different veggies you otherwise would have skipped at the grocery store

2. Eat at least 1 cup of legumes per day. Although I prefer to buy my beans dry and boil them myself, you CAN eat canned beans, just make sure they have NO added sodium! Rinse them well!

3. Eat at least 2-3 serving of fresh fruit (not canned, not processed, remember to emphasize straight from the produce section) with NO added sugar.

4. Remove all processed breads, and substitute with bean pastas (explore cuisine is my favorite brand!) and complex grains, like quinoa, oats and barley

5. Prepare your meals at home with NO oil.

One of the best ways to bake/roast with no oil is to use parchment paper! Placing parchment paper on your baking sheet allows your veggies to crisp perfectly, without sticking to the pan!

6. Do not add any salt to your meals!

My favorite way to avoid using salt? Try these alternatives:

Braggs nutritional yeast gives your food a cheesy, tasty flavor

Red/black pepper

Add garlic, onion, curry mixes

The more flavors you add, the less you will miss salt!

7. Drink at least 64 fluid ounces of water per day. We should all aim for this, always.

8. NO alcohol! You can do it for 7 days

9. Tempeh, Tofu, and Seitan, are all additional plant based proteins to add to your meals this week!

I often try to save vegan “meat substitutes” for rare occasions, as they are processed and often have a lot of added sodium, so avoid them for this weeks reset.

Also – nuts and nut butters are OK for the week, just remember to keep them in moderation!

*As a physician, I have to make the obligatory safety statement: when trying a new diet (especially if you are on specific medications like Coumadin) you should always check with your doctor before changing your diet drastically.

Jami- awesome!

I have a 20 min DVD -shred program with Jillian for a.m.
I'm either walking/biking- or driving to pool for laps at noon tomorrow

Continuing on with WFPB and may even rewatch The Game Changers to get inspired.
My half marathon is end of June in 2020. I'm looking to do a really good time for that.
For now- swimming and ST . Next Spring back to training. The best thing I have ever done is to eat whole foods- no /very little animal or dairy. Better recovery and overall health.

And- I'm going to be AF. For a long time.

The usual suspects have me up in weight. Off exercise schedule and off my healthy foods + social gatherings and being off due to lack of sleep. Lack of sleep always leads to poor choices.
I got a god night in last night and getting back in the saddle today emoticon

I'm on a challenge team- we are now doing 5 week challenges. My goal is to lose 7.5 in the 5 weeks. I did decide to jumpstart by doing 7 days of potato emoticon It has helped me before. I don't usually do those things but 7 days of potato has proven healthy and a good way to reset taste buds..lol by eating spuds! Ha! Anyhow and getting my exercise routine back in slowly.

I am going to check out The game Changers! When I get my stamina built up I don't seem to get as sore. I am getting back into a regular rhythm of running ( really slow). I am ok with being slow. Have a Happy Halloween!

rest is very important! If you do want to see a good movie- The Game Changers - I know eating this way means recovery. Less/ no muscle soreness.

Alcohol dehydrates- but so does meat and cheese too

I ran 2 miles today- with a bit of a walk before and after and got a stretch in after and biked to the pool and swam for 1/2 hour.

Food - super healthy!!

After race- I might -might have one Bloody Mary. Maybe- not sure. But if will be a one and done thing.
Then- I am going to bring ST back BIG time. I did not before race because I did not want any muscle soreness during race. emoticon

I might be taking a day off- just walk later on. Interval training in the a.m
Tuesday- run some intervals- got dentist appointment and estimate for mold -
Wed- Run and swim
Thurs- same & walk to piano lesson
Friday- same/maybe just swim
Saturday - stretch light run/walk
Sunday- RACE!!!!
after that. I am going to get back to strength training for serious. For first time noticing that muscle really helps in weight loss. So- will do ST 6 out of 7 days of some kind- some days core only. Swim 3 times a week and run /DVD cardio 3 times a week

It is- and the mold in that house is super high. I can't believe the husband is basically living there. I figure we got the inspections done we might as well go the full monty

Now we submitted an as is or have work done- one of which is actually gutting out a whole bedroom. Hey I am not going to live there with that mold!

Anyhow- met with out agent and told him what to do- he is actually enjoying us DH & I mean.

Not many houses exist where I can walk /bike to town and to the bay. I don't want to be out some where in the woods as peaceful as that might be as I get older- too isolated.
I want to be just off town so it is not noisy.

Anyhow! we shall see.

h- and I ran 4.2 although I really had to stop and walk the first 2 miles was just that kind of run. Got it done!

Mold is scary. We rented a house when I first went in the Navy. It was small but in San Diego renting is expensive. I was sick the entire 3 years. I think it had mold. I hope it works out the way it should!

On another note, I ran 2.5 miles for the first time in a long time. I have been keeping my runs at 2 miles so this is an improvement!

I scooted a total of 8 miles- walk and then run intervals

Jami- house inspection revealed high levels of toxic mo;d..so odd as owner is living there!
And anyhow structural plus some electrical and plumbing too- so we are getting a list together and if owner has it all done we will go ahead if not we walk away.
After mold is abated it will be reinspected and then exhaust fans put in to prevent..BUT of he does not want to get the work done then we shall keep looking

I'm going to try to get to pool + if not- then out for an afternoon run. I find changing times of workouts once in awhile changes things up for me.

I did have half and half in my coffee- trying to eliminate both
Had wine yesterday but mindfully and meaning I am not going to for a good long time to get on the healthy road.
I am eating lots of healthy things today- salad+ veggiees + fruits + lentils...rice
Drinking plenty of water
All in all a good day!

Em, congrats on the house!

You both sound great.

I'm working like crazy, very physical, long hours, so not much time for anything else. Have been doing great with mostly AF weeks, MOD on weekends. Scale isn 't moving much, but that's okay, I can only do so much when this busy.

We rented a little cabin outside Sequoia Nat'l Forest for a long weekend in late october when I have hiatus....soooo excited. I've never been there. Quiet...hiking....reading....ahhhhh....can
't wait!

right now Nov. 8- but might change as we are all flexible...or what I should say is yes probably that but we maybe able to move things in ahead and as that goes pay an extra months rent - maybe if we need to make move less stressful

Of course- landlord finally got furnace fixed and integrated meaning whole house on gas- would have been most efficient and quieter winter...just gotta let that go and literally move on!

Quiet neighborhood yet I am 10 minutes - by BIKE to near town and about 15-20 to the other.
Trails. Ocean. Library. Wildlife refuge!! Looking forward to it!

As you know we are in process of closing in on buying a house- plenty of exercise with that!

I bought some delicata squash emoticon and will be baking that later on - so yummy!

Interval training today- should be speed but I am no tup to speed lol- yet
so 7 x 400 M with one lap of walking in between
Swim in Bay today instead of pool as it will most likely be last time of year

B-fast blueberry oatmeal & chia seed & side smoothie- mint+ chocolate+ banana+ almond milk+ baby spinach

Lunch- taco salad & side of collard greens

Supper- going to try to make cauli rice with this head of cauliflower I have and then make a stir "fry" - I sautee and not fry

Sunday- cleaning out the frige

Monday-the 23rd- AF until goal weight which I predict may take me 167 days. 3/7/202
About 5 month and 2 weeks to build a healthy life!

Monday- 3-4 mile walk/trampoline if rainy
Yoga-stretch
Pool open at 11- laps- bike to pool (about a 2 mile bike ride-can be quicker than driving & finding parking)
-Back to healthy eating- plenty of healthy carbs-WFPB!

Today- got out for 5 mils altogether with 3 of them running.
I think I was derailed but am going to keep putting one foot in front of the other+
Did take home some leftovers from party at insistence of my friend but now on to 100% all in a nutritious direction

Jami- sounds like you had a great time.
We came very very close. On paper and in this market it looked like a great deal but it just is not the one. The finished basement was huge and actually better than the main floor- but basements do not have much natural light. There were a few windows but no..
And we went back at night and it was noisier than I like.
I backed out and am released from that listing . The search goes on...but I am taking a break for one week from looking...I am completely off kilter and need to get back to healthy..

So- tomorrow I am dropping off my bike to a bike shop and then walking home. The bike shop is 4 miles away.
Tonight- I am soaking my steel cut oats. Will have with fruit + flax + soy milk
Lunch- the big salad and a cabbage + chickpea soup
Supper- wild rice + veg + greens/parsley
Eve. walk
Stretch

Em, I really like Dr. G, as does my sister. She got me How Not To Die as an audiobook, and I find his voice very pleasing, and the info is fascinating. I'd like to adopt some of his principles for sure. How do you get in one tbsp of flaxseed? In oats or smoothies? I guess I could sprinkle on salads too. And do you grind your own daily, or buy it ground?

Back from NYC! And I brought home a horrible summer cold, so I've been lying low, so it's a super chill weekend. Fluids and binge-watching "Dark Crystal" on Netflix (it's awesome!!). But our trip was wonderful, the event was fun, we all had a great time.

When I get over this cold I want to slough off my old routine and ways of thinking. I feel a change a-comin'. Less food, more movement.

Off to blow my nose again. Blech!

DH saw it! - will let ya know..

Tomorrow my friend and I start serious training and can check in online to keep each other going
- I too would like the weight off Jami and Keo can do that BUT I would not have the energy to dig into training.
I have found most people who succeed on keto are food addicts and need to have rules to stay away from white flour etc. Often too after a closer look I find their weight goals to be too heavy and they don't often get off meds but aere on meds.
Anyway- to each tiheir own
I just find the food too heavy and I know a friend of mine that goes on keto and he tried to eat healthy carbs and could not lose and was gaining. I think you have to stay on it as you become more carb sensitive. I like my sweet potatoes..blueberries... veggies so I won't try it again BUT I was super tempted as I just LOVE the intiial weight loss for the first 2 weeks - after that it is about there same as any other plan.

Jami- I hope you know I just care about you! I had some odd stuff like tried the coffee with teh heavy cream and coconut oil and had hear palpitations..you may get leg cramsp and need magnesium and I just di dnot have the stamina I normally do with which I do my long runs etc..
Best of luck to you though!! And I do hope you know I mean that wih all sincerity!!! emoticon

Now on my end I rally need to walk my talk and stick to the whole food plant based - no oil...no added salt! yikes.. etc.
I am reconsidering using the scale have to weigh lol the pros and cons

Sounds like things went well with Mom.

DS is in town but leaving tomorrow- to stay with sis and fly out of Boston. She lives close to Boston. We worked and did major purging! I had been some what puttering around but we got some major stuff out. Still plenty to go- have lived her for 13 years and ther were 6 of us here for most of that time...

Also have been indulging in foods I do not ordinarily as DS can eat anything and much of it
He will cut grass today. I probably will start to do tha ttoo as DH hates it.

Hey gals! Sorry to be AWOL, went out of town to take care of mom while stepdad had a weekend away. It was fine, we had fun, and she mostly was in good spirits...only tried to pick fights a couple times. I'll take that as a win!

Traveling again this weekend, taking the fam to NYC for "The Big Event"!! I decided on a red cocktail dress that's not too dressy, nude pumps, statement necklace. Splurged on a hair/makeup stylist to prettify my sister and me. Wheeeee! We are seeing two shows while we're there...always expensive but DH and I have a "travel fund/honeymoon fund", or maybe we should call it the FUN-d? Anyway, we pulled from that so not too bad.

I didn't lose all the weight that I wanted to, but I still look pretty dang smashing in this dress, so....it is what it is!

Off to the gym before work later.

I got a 7 mile walk in walking to a potential buy early in a.m. just to get another look around. The neighbor's central a.c. is pretty loud outside of bedroom window. Could think of it as white noice BUT if it gets louder or drives me crazy- nothing I can do...so it is off list.
We looked at 3 together and then I went to another house tha twas open.
Nothing yet
The search continues-
DS is flying in so I am going to food shop etc..supposd toget a 4 miler in- not sure might bike to bay instead after I get errands done.

Emily we are one and the same! Bright with a tub! I would put both of those in my top 2! I really hope the one your looking at works out. I think tub is my number one! We had a small beautiful home that I miss dearly. It was perfect in every way. I thought I needed a bigger home. 25 years later, I would do anything to have my special home. Yes- mostly just husband causing stress.
He does not want to move but we need to. And also landlord is going to sell. We went here without a lease as we thought it was temporary. Now here for 13 years!
Anyhow- certainly tests a marriage.
I did have us right a list so we can see what is important to both of us.

I want to be able to walk and run outside in park. I guess it is called aging in place which sounds creepy! But yeah close to town but private too. Bright. Place to work- illustration.
Nice tub. Quiet
I might have found it. Saw the house. Needs work - but looks reasonable. Will let ya know

I gained back a couple of pounds so going to reverse that and will focus on weight loss again- ticker will show and I will do it in phases!

Well I capped myself at 1.5 glasses of wine last night. I feel pretty good this morning. Got some much needed sleep in the last few days. I am dressed and ready to run.

Em, glad your "spidey-sense" kicked in about the house and you recognized it wasn't the right one. Which means the right one is still out there!

Had wine most nights this weak, not sure why exactly. Tonight is a cocktail party so I'll have at least one, but AF begins Sunday night. Feeling dehydrated a bit.

A little cardio today sometime, then errands. Happy Saturday!

hey ladies! I won my DietBet and am below 155! Very happy and feeling good about getting into 140-ville before my event at the end of the month. It was rough to cross the DietBet finish line but I did it. Had wine here and there.

Celebrated yesterday by eating moderate portions of whatever I wanted, and my body was NOT happy. Back to healthy goodness today: breakfast of an egg on toast, cardio at the gym (don't tell Jeff!), then a facial. Ah! Later healthy food shopping and meal planning, and an AF evening. And I have some serious writing to do.

I think I mentioned we are watching "Breaking Bad" as a family, first time DD has seen it, years for me and DH. The final two episodes tonight! Eep! Such a good show.

hmmm shared wine with DH- this time I did not sleep as well-

Need to start my exercise routine soon as my friend who signed us up for the race is smack talking..well a bit... wants to beat me in race!
It is a 4 miler- which because it is shorter puts me at a disadvantage ..BUT I can work on hills and speed...today though - water!!! Hydration is key! emoticon

so.. this is what I have worked out:

3 Evolutions

1) 7/29-8/25
More freggies - some juices-smoothie- work on getting up earlier(goal=5:05) Get yoga and stretch into routine. Work on some ST. Declutter- minimalize andorganize
AF- mostly - a treat here and there with friends/events
-so mostly plants for food
-daily stretch
-run/walk 4-5 times a week
-swim 3 times a week
-bike more
-sleep! 7.5 hours

2)8/26-9/22
Bring back more beans and lentils
-keep it mostly vegan
-keep everything from Evolution 1
-add in Hills and Speed Training!

3) 9/23-10/20
10/20- is RACE day!
Focus on race
Keep going from everything in Evolution 1&2
2-3 high density nutritional meals a day
-add in hours of illustration
-start building a career in that area
