W1d5 I realized I can't get my days straight. Today was not as good as my first 4 days but not bad. I was a few calories above my limit bout still a definite for the day with my exercise at least according to my fitbit. I will work on doing better tomorrow and stay on track better. My FBG this morning was 99. I hope others that have joined this team for the first time are motivated by the challenge. Try not to get discouraged and get back on track. This is a process of getting better at being healthy. Think about the results!

I've been fighting this battle for many, many years. I see now so much of this started when I wasn't even the least bit overweight, just had an extremely poor self-image. Well, now I am overweight, actually obese and totally out of shape. I'm so down on myself i can't stand to even look in a mirror. I don't want to know that person in the reflection. I have been warned of Pre-Diabetes, but so far have avoided being labled as Diabetic. I hate to think what this years physical is going to say. Diabetic or not, this challenge certainly can't' hurt me and hopefully it will help me on my way to weight loss. I have a long way to go. Here's to a new start and hopefully sucess.

emoticon Hi - I'm new to this team. Many family members have type 2 diabetes and I am up and down in Pre-diabetic territory - depending on how my diet and exercise are going. So my goal is to keep practicing a healthy diet and regular exercise that will keep me as healthy as possible. I need lots of encouragement. emoticon

Hey, Cottontail
I am starting tomorrow, March 1, as well. And I, too, have some health issues that impact the walking and exercising, especially walking. I also set my daily goal at 5000 steps. Send me a "poke" once in a while. Maybe we can inspire each other.

I am starting the challenge tomorrow March 1, last Spring I was doing great my #'s were excellent, then fall and winter came and #'s went up although I have not been diagnosed with diabetes, I know I will be if my #'s don't improve. Fall and winter I tend to seek out comfort foods, it seems pasta and rice really shot my #'s up, and then there is exercise, I was really do well until I overdid on the treadmill creating a knee problem concerning my patella, Dr says it will take a lengthy time to improve, so I can only walk so long before I have to stop and ice, very frustrating. I saw this challenge and thought I would give it my best shot given my aliments. I will be tracking my food, doing my best with walking hoping to reach between 5,000 to 7,000 steps a day.

I have been taking baby steps into a lifestyle adjustment. For the past few weeks, I have been paying attention to food choices. I am considering this Week 1 because now I am serious about the program. I purchased a fit bit on Sunday night and have recorded 10000+ steps for the past three days. I find that exercising in the morning works best for me. Hook the Ipad up to the treadmill, watched the Vicar of Dibley and walked for 6000+ steps to start my day. On Tuesday, I walked 5000 in the am but was short by the end of the day (I have a desk job) so I hopped on the treadmill to finish out the step count. Must admit, I am looking forward to warm, dry weather so I can move this walking outside. Good luck, everyone!

Today, stick with one serving of grain--start some beans in my crockpot for supper--do the T-Tapp exercise routine.

I can't get to the library for 3 days each week--it is closed. So, I won't check in every day, but will keep a home diary and fill-in here, at times.

T-Tapp has specific exercises for reducing blood-sugar. Theresa Tapp says we have muscle fibers in our core that mainly uses the blood sugar as a fuel, and using these muscles can drop blood sugar rather quickly. There is a T-Tapp SparkTeam.

I am still finding my core muscles, and so much of my body has to adjust every time I get a better balance/posture going on in my body. But, after 18 months, I am much closer to using my body correctly than i was when I started with this.

I begged for decades for physical therapy to help me-- but the people could not see what I could feel, and I was told to go to chiropractors--who did help,---well the Palmer Method ones did. Others just made my neck tighter, though they did keep me out of a wheelchair. emoticon

Yesterday went well, I exercised and kept to my calorie goals. My fasting BG 99. And yesterday's work paid off with this mornings fasting BG of 97. I went and walked even though I still don't feel great and stayed on my diet at work which has been difficult for me to do. I listened to my stomach and not my mind and it helped. I am working on staying within my goals tonight. Just Do It!

I tracked ALL my food yesterday, which is huge for me. I often don't add everything into the tracker, which doesn't mean I didn't eat it! :) Can't exercise this morning cuz it's raining, so I'm rearranging the day to do my 40 mins of walking after work.

I managed to complet Week 1 challenge today, although it took me 5 days before I started really doing all the things I was supposed to do. No weight loss yet, but I have had to start exercising very slowly. On to week 2!

I had a pretty good day yesterday. Stayed within my calorie range even with eating dinner out. That is an accomplishment for me. I did exercise, walked for 40 minutes even though I didn't feel well. It would have been easier to have been lazy. My morning BG is also starting to drop. 99 this morning. I also said no to eating out this morning. Things get harder tomorrow when I have to return to work.

Well, tomorrow I hope to complete Week 1, although it has taken me 10 days. I haven't lost any weight, but tracking my food has shown me that I am eating a lot more than I think I am. I am also getting better at stretching out my snacks, and making lower calorie choices for them.

I am a little bit late for the week 1 check-in. I am almost at week 2. Week 1 I lost 7.4 pounds. I am excited to see what next week's weigh in is. My fasting glucose was 98 this morning. I have been trying to get it under 100 and I finally did it this morning. I self-diagnosed myself as pre-diabetic so I am just really trying to watch my sugar and get this weight off. My mom is diabetic and has a lot of complications and I don't want to go through what she is going through. : ( My sugar throughout the day is in the 80s and 90s. My fasting sugar is around 105-111 on average and I am not on any meds. I am trying to not get to that point.

Hi I lost 1.4 this week so that is part of the 2.4 I gained the week before. I went swimming 4 times this week. I went to the grocery store where they do fasting glucose, blood pressure and cholestrol tests every 2 weeks. My fasting glucose was 122 and a month ago it was 123 so it came down a little. It probably would have been better but I had potatoes twice this week. I hope the next time I have it down it goes down some more.

Liz

Diagnosed 11/30/12 with diabetes. Taking some meds, but no daily blood sugar checks. The doctor says I can beat this with weight loss. Need the group reinforcement of fellow warriors in the Battle to Thrive. I have lost 12 pounds, but have now gotten sidetracked and stagnated. Need to make progress again.

I was diagnosed with prediabetes, just on the cusp of normal and prediabetes. I journaled what I ate today but am thinking that I didn't balance my diet well yesterday, which may account for feeling dizzy today.

Here is my journal entry:

Felt a little dizzy after eating pear with lunch but dizziness went away after I started moving around.

I had an egg and one cup of cucumbers before exercise. I felt well and didn't get dizzy after exercise.

Got hungry and then dizzy again about an hour after exercise... had about 3 oz. of juice and helped some of the dizziness go away before dinner.

I had about .66 of a chicken and spinach enchilada dinner with tortilla chips and .33 of guacomole. Dizziness went away after eating until satisfied.

Today is day 5 of Week 1 After reading my post on day 3 I am feeling better because my FBS was 127 this morning finally going down. But, after going through my journal I couldn't tell you why. This seems to be the most frustrating part about diabetes. Perhaps, I need to track in more detail. And, by that I mean include the herbal tea I am drinking and how much and when I drink my water. It is a good learning experience. emoticon

First week in and I had lost a pound but put it back on....messed up somewhere along the way on my carb counting or it was where I did not walk for a few days...have been really under the weather and I know that when you are sick your body needs rest instead of exercise. There is the second week to try again.

God grant me the patience, knowledge and understanding to do the things I need to do.

Hi, today is day 3 of Week 1 on the Challenge and I am working on Meal Planning especially learning about carbs before I eat. Rather than track after I have eaten. In 2013, I started a food journal which also includes my FBS time I go to bed and wake up in morning. My FBS has been 106, 111, 148, 132, 131. If I duplicate the events when it was 106, I will be interested to see if I get the same results. emoticon
