emoticon idea! they have some practical food suggestions!

the carbs is something I have to stay focused on, cuz I would always just eat those! think it helps to have other ideas & foods to eat too, lol... which reminds me, need to go figure out protein for dinner tonight!

Great! Sounds like a good plan. I went to the gym today, then signed back up with Weight Watcher's. They keep things low carb...I think it'll help.

article snippet from this week: "tracking your food can be an incredibly beneficial habit in regard to weight control, healthy eating and simply taking control of your relationship with food. "We have a tendency to forget what we’ve eaten throughout the day and to eat mindlessly from time to time. Writing it down or logging it is an effective way to reduce the mindlessness," she says. "It helps build your awareness of what you're eating, how much you've consumed and whether anything is missing from your diet."

emoticon nods... and I struggle doing it sometimes... it used to really trigger me until I realized it's just a tool to help me understand how much is enough and not too much... no one's gonna read my trackers... and it does help me figure out how much to dish up... so it's been a good thing...

the other part is when motivation evaporates or I struggle doing any of this... tracking can help me get real about what I'm really poking in my mouth... and it's helping as I try to come to grips with carbs... I would eat all sweets & treats... (aka way overeat the carbs and usually would dish up way too much) so the tracking helps me get a grip on eating enough, not too much, not too little... it's been a good thing.

and this week, even that wasn't quite doing the trick so added taking pics of what I eat so I can track that... decided to blog it temporarily... it has been helping rekindle the motivation to do it... and keep choosing foods that help my body fight diabetes!

emoticon

emoticon adjusting food for sick days/soft foods today - it was a bit of a challenge - old favorites would be things like cracker stuffed soups... instead, supplemented a can of butternut squash soup with a serving of rice (1/4c) and stirred in some fiber from an otc bottle (I could not figure how to get fiber-full soft foods... something to explore)... and made a hot cocoa (no added sugar packet) with scoop of chocolate whey protein powder... hit targets for total cals & carbs, yay

wrapping up week 2!

this week, I had a physical improvement NSV - as a result of the daily/frequent exercise while doing this challenge - it was easier to step into and pull myself up into our truck! 1st time in a long time ~ more strength, flexibility & range of motion - from the ST! woot!

I want to explore stuff that helps me be able to do life better! reach, bend, up, down, walk, hope & skip forward! Onward!

moving to week 3 tomorrow! See you there :)

stress & emotional angst - it spikes some stuff in our body (cortisol? adrenaline?) that then spikes our bs and that sucks.

sometimes, the hardest thing is simply coping with the craptacular and sometimes all I can do is simple things... I like to think of it as taking mental bubblebaths - a few mins daydreaming the happy/places/times... furbaby cuddles... a good sleep if possible... a burst of movement can lift spirits...

it is really hard when we can't change the circumstance or the other person dishing things out (I think this is particularly true, like for nurses/caregivers and people who have to help other people)… so it's really important to take deep breaths, actively consciously "release" the thoughts... point ourselves forward...

I heard an expression today that I liked... it was to someone about releasing frustration

emoticon Go throw an orange at the sun! emoticon

Brilliant! snagged the thought - because sometimes, it just helps to throw something!!! the thought of throwing an orange at the sun made me giggle... it's a new thing/keeper idea ;)

kkkk… hang in! deep breaths! (hugs)

emoticon It's hard isn't it??? Life, parties, stuff happens... I've been pondering why/how do we keep going if we derail... at a meal, party, for a day or 2...

emoticon Why? why do we try, why do we do any of this, why do we try again...

emoticon And then I read a blog today

nal_individual.asp?blog_id=6564882

emoticon it touched me deeply in a profound way ~ realizing again, that this is about saving ourselves... for me, because of diabetes & health reasons.... so I snagged the pic below... and hold onto the thought that all of us are worth saving ~ worth doing this, worth trying.... each starting where we are, joining together and enjoying the journey more, because we're here together! We just have to keep getting up, each day, choosing to believe, claim it and go for it! We got this! Onward!

emoticon great to see people here, how's it going?

emoticon i'm just wrapping up week 2 - came down with a cold on Sun... and decided to adjust my eating for diabetes instead of the things we used to do
-- stay in ranges for carbs for meals and snacks so I don't hike/spike my bs#'s from extra carbs from things like stuffing crackers in the chicken noodle soup, and so I don't trigger a voracious carb appetite.
-- eat whole citrus instead of juices
-- broth chicken noodle soups stuffed with extra non-starchy veggies
-- teas, non-calorie water/fluids

it's worked pretty well.

I had my 1st below 100 bs at lunch, after exercise on day 7, week 2... woot!

onward to week 3!

Keep going everyone - we're worth it!

Today I am down 30 lbs and can move, reach, bend, stand and walk more easily... still working to improve health and especially to take care of this diabetes. Had a big hike in my #s this week and I am hoping to bring them back down... or will see doc... but the fret/scare is right back to where I was when I started and I so want to do what I can to help my body.
