emoticon week 3! tracking feeling easier, but doing all this - starting to feel tedious, so pushing through the urge to quit... and staying committed - tracking, testing bs, intentional movement. I look forward to noticeable improvements! For now, the win is that I am still working it! Woot! Have a gr8 week 3

I am such a riot! Ate well all day, then hit the chips and guacamole at dinner without even thinking about it.

I read all the articles, worked out at the gym, and joined WW last Friday to help with a lower carb lifestyle. I'm hoping that I start losing weight with these changes!

Big breath and relax. Concentrate on all the good things you are doing to help yourself with controlling diabetes. Stress can definitely make things worse. If we only had a magic wand to make it all go away. Think happy thoughts. We are going to have good days and not so good days, but keep eating healthy, getting your rest and relax with good happy thoughts. I’m here for you, my friend

Blew it yesterday. Ate pretty good for breakfast and lunch , even for dinner. Then I had homemade lemon zucchini bread with strawberries and whipped cream. Later that evening I had a bowl of popcorn. No excuses, I just was craving it and couldn’t say no. Then the regrets set in. Today is a new day and I am going to eat right. emoticon

not sure a firehose off a fire truck would be enough sometimes!!! I would suck it bone dry!!!

although my #s are improving (downward trending) and some symptoms have improved some... (the middle of the night super parched/deep dry in the mouth is not as frequent nor quite as thirsty)

emoticon I am so hoping all the little symptoms and things get better... blurry vision, better #s, less thirst...

struggling at nights - and old way I used to eat and the changes I'm trying to make... more practice - was trying to figure out spaghetti last night - after hubby made it the way we used to eat it, couldn't find enough sauce/protein tucked into the noodles... thinking will dish/serve more restaurant stynoodles separately in the future le so I can better guage the meat/sauce.

emoticon still sick with a mild cold and still working to stay in carb ranges on the SP nutrition tracker and am choosing comforting foods - like chicken broth soup stuffed with low starch veggies instead of crackers, tea with lemon, whole fruit oranges/tangerines... it is different from when I was a child, but I don't want to hike/spike my bs or trigger a voracious carb appetite... it is going ok... looking forward to getting back to regular days/regular foods...

emoticon i'm just starting week 3 again - came down with a cold on Sun... and decided to adjust my eating for diabetes instead of the things we used to do
-- stay in ranges for carbs for meals and snacks so I don't hike/spike my bs#'s from extra carbs from things like stuffing crackers in the chicken noodle soup, and so I don't trigger a voracious carb appetite.
-- eat whole citrus instead of juices
-- broth chicken noodle soups stuffed with extra non-starchy veggies
-- teas, non-calorie water/fluids

it's working pretty well.

just had 2 days in a row with my 1st & 2nd below 100 bs at lunch, after exercise on day 7, week 2... woot!

emoticon Hi everyone - doing this challenge again... I have continued to see improved bs#s and improved cholesterol since I was here in August! Worth doing! Here we go, week 3 again! Onward :)

this time I am pondering how to eat during the feasts... how to handle carbs... talked to doc about it a bit... thinking to stay in usual carb ranges for the most part and indulge in some gourmet meats/cheese & veggies during the feast - gourmet crudité type foods such as veggies (marinated mushrooms, pickled asparagus), artichoke hearts, olives and meats/cheeses, etc...

this would be a totally different eating approach than the typical holiday big servings of my fav carbs and desserts.

Just came in from trimming the fall herb garden. Oh, my, it smells so good!!! This batch will be frozen and this year I've decided to just put it all in one bag. I always use them all together anyway.

Exercise and eating was good yesterday. Tomorrow I have to trek into the big city for doctors appointments so am planning on doing some extra shopping to get in a little more walking. Change things up a bit! Yeah!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Yesterday was my rest day so I just did a short walk....well and vacuumed up dog hair. Shed season is upon us!! emoticon

The article today was on diabetes and being sick or injured. My blood level has been just under the limit on my blood tests the last few years and I wonder how much of the glucose issue relates to the overall inflammation in my body from my RA and allergies. I guess eating healthy and watching different triggers that I know influence the inflammation will also help the glucose. So win-win situation again. I've been eating well and exercising for the last year consistently but I'm having a really hard flare up this fall. Hope it doesn't last long. Pain is hard to deal with on a daily basis...go figure!!

Read the article today on subbing artificial sugars in baking. I don't use any of them because they all leave a terrible aftertaste and after 3-4 days I get these really bad headaches. I do use maple syrup and honey in place of sugar in some things and have cut the sugar amount in half in cakes and cookies with reasonable results. But mostly I just don't eat things that would have a lot of sugar in them. So the occasional dessert when we eat out isn't going to kill the healthy living style. Of course that may change if I go into full Diabetes mode, and that's why I'm here trying to learn to just eat better and not have to worry about it! Win-win situation.

Got 35 minutes of brisk walking in then upper body workout. Extra walking while grocery shopping. But I got way off track in the afternoon and ate chips and had homemade pizza last night for dinner. Pizza wasn't bad but the chips have me water logged this morning. It was supposed to be my massage day but my therapist was at the hospital with his brother who had a heart attack. Worrying about them set me up for the eating binge and i didn't handle it properly. In fact I don't even remember thinking about choices at all.

So I think I've identified another trigger I need to watch out for and plot an action plan. Back to healthy choices today.

Healthy snacks are hard to figure out when you can't eat gluten. I never feel like fixing oatmeal or heating up rice. I found that nuts, boiled eggs, and yogurt with fruit or protein powder are about all I can come up with. I guess simple is OK. Just gets boring. LOL

I wish the bs testing could come with a little check box report... your # is high because ____. and then it would be easier to understand. to me, it often doesn't make sense. had 2 afternoon bs very high yesterday but my food/exercise/sleep & all things otherwise had not changed, so it was weird. by evening, the #'s were back in the newer lower ranges I've been seeing since I started the challenge. Felt relieved.

it did help reinforce to me why my efforts to eat & move better can help... I decided again that am worth it.

I only check my fasting blood sugars and usually can see direct relationship to precious day's intake but sometimes there is a wild card nd a high number that I cannot figure out why - then looking at stress, or sleep or evening protein in particular seems to make a difference.

Slow but sure, daily consistency will win this battle for us!!! Keep up the good works and learn from the slip-ups ...

thank you for the encouragement and WTG for your consistency with food/ex! yes, weight loss would be awesome too!

I read an article today on the diabetes complications and the good news takeaway is consistency with food/ex and meds (as needed for cholesterol, bp & bs.) so perhaps this is 1st priority and lesson learned to focus on these actions I can take to manage diabetes, and, well, weight loss as a bonus... It is a bit of a flip because typically weight loss is our immediate priority and why we arrive at this website. The diabetes scares me though, I think it is worthy of a #1 top priority; and to guide our daily actions.

Good to see progress for you gals - Consistent work at healthy choices of food and exercise and timing of each seems to come together for BS...I dream of it working for weight too but not much improvement in mine either.

starting wk 3 :)

bs #'s are overall better; perhaps because my meals/snacks are smaller. had a big 6 lb woosh weight loss wk 1 (water drop) and 2 lb uptick week 2 despite tracking and staying in overall cals range all week. figure it's the body catching up with the week 1 drop, so not concerned on the weight. thrilled with the bs results. also plus result is starting to feel littler more energy from the exercise!

Onward!

Blood sugar is better as long as I follow some type of meal plan and exercise but the weight is a different story. Not much movement there.

Sometimes the learning and healing inside us is happening when we cannot see changes - this has been a rebellious day for me - I have had gluten and sugar both - will suffer for the next 48 hours for it probably but deep breath and back to basics tomorrow!

Week three - Saturday evening and signing off on this week - on to week 4 tomorrow
Not feeling like I am learning much but the line upon line - precept upon precept principle may be working more than I notice. Learning is slow but sure - becoming more instinctive to choose away from carbs and balance my protein and fat … notice it in shopping choices too - even when not planned, label reading and eliminating the carbs from even entering the house is helpful!!! Also notice the more I talk about it , the more hubby is in agreement with good choices and encouragements and friends are coming along side and not tempting me with "sugar foods" . But all that said...the weight is NOT moving!!!
