Week 4, Day 7
Post family blues, and tiredness kindof got me. Had a minor binge, like years ago when I'd get so tired I'd stop by the mini-mart and pick up 5 candy bars believing I'd share them then ate them all. Just one candy bar this time. Didn't make me feel any better a-tall, and did a number on my sugars. Today, I've stayed on Track; did my exercises; and believe I can do this again in the morrow. On to Week 5!

Week 4, day 4. Late nights and eating out with the kids has been a special challenge. They've gone; I miss them; I am getting back on track. Next time I see them I will be smaller and firmer!

Week 4, Day 1: I am finding it more difficult to find the time to be with our guests and work the program. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to leave and get in some cardio! We are having a great time!

I'm trying hard this week! I went to lunch today for my aunt's birthday (didn't eat bread and only had 2 bites of cake). Tomorrow I'm going to brunch at the Original Pancake House with a friend. Going to try to eat "lean". We'll see if I was okay on Friday!

I had a big eating weekend...tried my best, but at the mercy of other people's menus. So I'm making it up this week. Eating low carb, low fat and staying under my weight watchers points.

emoticon I know right? who knew there's so much to know!!! LOL

I often forget the details/whys but it helps me decide what to make part of regular eatings… somewhere in all the articles was information on foods with fiber than helps slow digestion and keep blood sugar hikes/spikes lower - and also helps remove/lower cholesterol... and because of those articles, I try to eat some of those things regularly - like apples, barley, oats, and the things like black beans, kidney beans (legumes) - and oh my gosh, I love white kidney beans! a new fav! who knew???

emoticon onward! happy munching yummilicious foods that help our bodies deal with diabetes! Woot!

emoticon a new fresh week 4! glad the focus will be on sweets - have been struggling with tv ads triggering urges - mostly in the evening... it's a silly candy season the next few weeks - and we always stocked up on fav holiday candies when they went on sale... have released that (don't do it anymore) but still get the urges/cravings so this week I want to focus on how my meals & snacks do satisfy me + plus help my body! Hoping to push through the urges, keep helping my body and hope to see those #'s trend downward!

emoticon glad you're better Alley! can't believe we're here, fixing to wrap up week 4!

this has been a tougher week, had to yank my sweet tooth again after Valentines... and finally doing better too :)

emoticon had a really special NSV(s) this week... my bs#s have been trending downwards, consistently, since starting this challenge last August... this week, I've had several new post-meal lows and new morning lows ~ averaging about 50 pts lower than last August! Woot!!!

blood sugars remain a mystery to me... my highest bs# is often mid-morning because of the "dawn syndrome" (liver releases bs into the body)… and I can definitely tell now that exercise impacts and reduces the hikes & spikes, immediately with the exercise but also has an afterburn for a day or 2... so when I ease off exercise, the bs#s creep up...

who knew? I wish I knew earlier... but I am glad we have this challenge to help us stay focused ~ because we matter and what we do, how we eat and move, can and does help our bodies, and that's exciting! the longer we can prevent/delay and help our bodies, the better! we are worth it!

Just a little late on the holiday. Hope you all had a wonderful day.

Jules,
I liked what you wrote here. The plate size is the best thing to get you to eat what you should. It is funny how we can trick our brains.

Week 4 Day 1

I had a great day yesterday. I went to my doctor for a check up and she said that after I get blood work done in April, she may reduce my Metformin to only 1 tablet a day. Losing the 80 pounds has really made the difference.

Well I got to go for now.

Take care friends.

Alley

emoticon Happy Valentines :)

here we are, already week 4 again, and it's valentine's day - perfect time to read articles on how to deal with carb/sweets for our eating....

1 of the things I like about flexible meal plans - like carb/calorie counting is the total flexibility to swap/mix & match as I desire different foods... whether I want to indulge in holiday/seasonal foods or just to figure out how much to eat on regular days of regular foods...

the holiday tv candy ads are triggering me this week - so I think it is easy to know/understand this stuff in our brains, on a theoretical level - but much harder to actually change what/how we're eating - and for me, (re)learning how much is really enough for my body is the new2me stuff and things I'm exploring...

I like choosing foods that are bigger in size... for example, that little pile of holiday chocolates is way smaller than a big bowl of popcorn... swaps like that...

and also, things like smaller plates help to make them more appealing

emoticon we are free to choose ~ so choose happifying ~ for our bodies and our souls :)

Made it to Arkansas yesterday just to find out that there is still standing water in the yard. Can't get the truck and trailer down to the rocks so will have to move all the rocks up the hill to the trailer.....Oh Joy...but it will be good exercise. Just hope I can get it finished before it rains....AGAIN!!

Yesterday was a busy day! We got our shop building finished so today we begin putting in the electric and plumbing and then super clean the floor and put an epoxy coating on it. So excited to get it finished!! I'll get the garage back for my projects.....LOL

Have to get my rowing and strength in early, then we head into town to pick up all our materials. I'm going up to my daughters Thursday and will be picking up all my rocks and logs so that will be a really good workout!!

Have a great week!!

Doctors appointment was interesting. First, they still have not assigned a full time doc to our team so yet another face who knows nothing about my history. All my blood work, blood pressure and oxygen levels were in normal range. My glucose was down significantly and my cholesterol, too. I'm impressed! The eating plan is working well!! He wants me to take a muscle relaxer and anti-inflammatory for one week regularly (twice daily) to see if it gets my shoulders and neck back in order. That could have an interesting affect on my weight loss this week. Bummer....but we'll see!

No loss this week but no gain either. It was not a great eating week since we had pizza but today is a new day to start.

Beginning week 4. Reading through some of the posts this must be the emotional week. The last few days I've really struggled with not being able to have what I want...part because of a self imposed no sugar for a month fast and part because I really need to up my efforts to lose this weight. But onward we all press to try and make our bodies into the temples they should be....or something like that.

I got in 45 minutes of rowing, walking and strength training yesterday and didn't sleep much at all. My typical reaction to having a doctors appointment today. So off the that. I'll get some extra walking in as a bonus!

thank you for sharing this... yes, I could say I have those kinds of feelings about not being able to eat what/when I want... my inner 2 year old rebels at it... and it is a combo of anger and sadness and rebellion at releasing overeating I think.... something to ponder!

I am doing well at the end of week 4. bs numbers are still a bit lower, but have not dropped further this week. some weight loss and some increased stamina/energy from the exercise focus and appetite is definitely better! this is good!

onward to week 5!

It took me months to get past "being mad at the word DIABETES" - I still have some bits of resentment at not being able to eat what I want to eat but have begun to see my journey through PRE-DIABETES as a warning that I can be thankful for - that I am eating for better health and can finally see very slow weight loss happening and am NOT damaging my body further. I hope your emotions continue to heal - does talking abut it help? I will listen or read what ever I can do to encourage and help you. Blessings!

Wk4 - day 7 - Saturday and a morning market day then walked in Walmart and home to rest.

One of my higher daily totals of steps - surprised me at 7000 … quite a bit for me and way over the goal of 3300!!! Thankful and praying I will be able to move tomorrow - I knew I was pushing the endurance several times at market but also felt I am building strength so woll raise the goal another 100 steps next week! End of my 4th wk nd officially lost total of 2.8# thus far - will press on to week 5. Blessings to those who come behind me - will try to check back through the next month to see how others re doing. I continue to feel I am learning and appreciating those who are positives in my life.

Week 4 Day 5 and 6
Thursday - busy day at farm and farmer's market - no computer time to speak of - I keep working at the low carb eating, testing blood sugars and learning more every day where the carbs hide but also what other things affect my blood sugar such as poor sleep, inflammation if I get glutened [I am celiac] even the weather affecting inflammation.

Friday, still have not tracked yesterdays' foods or todays - must get back to that detail of this journey - I know I have had more food carbs - 50g white potato in my egg scramble this morning and 1/2c ice cream ...but they were measured amounts and deliberate choices - just not the best ones!!!

Wk4 Day4 Wed. smiling... FBS 99 Wt 204.6 down from 209 at beginning of challenge month and blood pressure 122/72 which is above my "normal 110/68 " but thankful it is getting close and in safe one.. Heart patient has to watch these things as well as blood sugars.

Really feeling better with eating the last week or two - less hunger and much more patience with meals and times - finally accepting the loss of fruits and enjoying an occasional very small weighed serving and planning it into carbs - trying to keep under 40 carbs and hoping I will be able to add a few back on after weight loss and control of blood sugars.

Todays food : 1314cal 44carbs -16fiber = 28NetCarb 96fats [30 saturated fats] 76 proteins
I like the percent graph on the nutrition tracker 13%carbs 23%proteins 65fats Lite on protein today - ran out of baked chicken breasts in my fridg -

Wk 4 - Dy 2 - Monday and my low cal day - did not keep it as low as preferred but carbs are low so will accept this.

840 cal 28carb - 15 fiber - 13NetCarb Too low in protein today - will plan 1 tbsp. nut butter at 2am with meds Fasting blood sugar was up to 110 this morning and I can't figure out a reason based on activity, intake etc except that hip is causing a LOT of pain and poor sleep quality.

Wk4 Sunday 7/22 Day 1 FBS 99 [last weeks's average was 103] wt 207 [2# loss in this challenge] I have low mobility so goal was steps last week was to average 3200 and two flight of stairs ...I did great averaging but am exhausted too....this weeks goal will be 3500 average.

Goal is to keep carbs under 40 - recording total and net carbs and blood sugar under 100. I am not doing any specific exercise program - in survival mode with our harvest and marketing schedule and heat wave.

Emotionally dealing with anger that I cannot eat the fruit I love...too many carbs but also want to control the Pre-diabetes with diet - NOT MEDS!!! I will keep repeating the goals and making the choices. Dr appointment on August 23.
