Thanks so much Kasey. I'll go through the list and probably try a few. I need something new for the year. Tomorrow I go to water aerobics which I really enjoy. These will help when I'm home. I love to exercise first thing in the morning. I feel so much better after that and have energy for the whole day.

MARENVILA’s question this morning regarding links got me to thinking – we haven’t had a list of chair-exercise clips for a while.

“Old timers” (lol) on the CET have long since picked out some favorites and are probably familiar with how to find them. But newbies and (ahem) those of us who are forgetful can use an update every now and then.

Before I post the (short) list I’ve drawn up, I guess I better do That Disclaimer Thing: remember always to check with your doctor before you jump into any exercise program, especially if it’s been a while since you practiced any fitness on a regular basis.

Keep in mind that virtually any exercise can be adapted to allow for your physical condition or for any medical issues you may have. If an instructor does both upper and lower exercises but you have difficulty doing leg exercises, omit them and follow the demonstrations for the upper-body workout.

And just because a routine runs a full twenty or thirty minutes doesn’t mean you have to do the whole thing – especially when you start out. Do what you can and work your way up to the more intense or longer exercises.

As always with anything on the internet, be savvy – and watch out for the websites that want you to buy their products or pay for subscriptions. If you choose to, that’s great – but if you don’t want to, there are so many free ones that you don’t have to buy something if you don’t want to.

The fitness routines range from chair dancing to yoga to routines designed specifically for the elderly or obese. There are chair exercises for all levels of fitness, from beginners to advanced. Some have music, some don’t. Some feature a class or group of people working with the instructor while others are simply one or two people demonstrating the exercises.

A quick search on YouTube using terms such as “chair aerobics” or “chair dancing” or “chair yoga” – and of course, the basic “chair exercises” – will bring up quite a list of clips. It’s a virtual smorgasbord of routines to try!
