Favorite play...Phantom of the Opera. Took my DD. She has always loved it. When the opening music started tears ran down her face and she had the biggest smile. I had my moms hankie with me. Who knows why. When I gave it to her it was like a triple bond.

As for challenges, I've learned that I'm not going to do more than one challenge at a time. It's really hard to remember what to post where and when the deadline is for what team. Especially while I fight the feeling of being overwhelmed anyway. I love them though. There's no way I could run one. This one was a lot of fun, Hannah. It had to be a lot of work. Thank you for that.

I love challenges so would be up for anything that anyone wants to do. I just don't feel that I am computer savvy enough to help organize one. I know enough to function as I have been, but don't know how to find the information you contribute, Hannah.

Yes I would love another challenge! But give yourselves a little break, at least!

I could help lead one during summer months.

I remember going to Lakewood as a child and to the Gilbert and Sullivan productions in Monmouth as well. The Monmouth productions were favorites of my grandmother and we used to take her for her birthday. Fond memories.

That's great Eileen.

I have lots of favorites but one that stands out was seeing Tony Bennett at Merrill Auditorium 2 years ago. He was 88 and was fantastic! As were the musicians who played with him. For the encore he came back on stage, put his microphone on the piano, walked to edge of the stage and his voice filled the auditorium. Wonderful!

Haven't been for years and years. Guess my favorite plays would have to be the UMF ones I attended while my daughter was starring in them. She is a very talented person and was in the theater while she was a student at UMF. She had the lead role in one I remember specifically.

No favorite rides for me--I am brave enough to do the merry-go-round and the "old fashioned" ferris wheel, but most rides make me dizzy--really sick dizzy! Probably I could do the slides and things like that, but I have given up rides altoghether (except virtually).

Rita - I know what you mean. I had to add the one about the child's smile when I thought about my visit to my SIL's yesterday. Lucas, her one year old grandson was sitting on his grampa's lap and every time I looked at him his face would light up with the biggest smile EVERY SINGLE TIME. He is the cutest little redhead anyway, and that smile just made my day. I got a big hug from both he and his older sister when I left. Children are so precious.

After going to Walmart yesterday afternoon I need to add another one. emoticon

I was just meandering around. Basically doing a version of "window shopping" but from inside the windows. All of a sudden I heard a little boy over in the next isle start giggling. There was no way to not smile and laugh a little myself. I went around to that side, his mom was tickling him. When she stopped, he looked at me and gave me the biggest smile. I told him I liked his laugh. He said "thank you" hahaha. Then he looked really serious and said "When my mom tickles me I always laugh like that. Want my mom to tickle you too?"

Wasn't that the sweetest, kindest thing to come from a 3 year old? Willing to share his mom's tickles. Why to we lose so much of our kindness as we get older? It's such a shame.

There are so many things that I could put on this list, I found it hard to limit it to just three.

A few more include a field of wildflower; A small child with a huge smile on its face; and A small young animal (like a kitten or puppy) at play.

3 things?

- BUTTERFLIES - I was driving from Las Vegas to Reno in early summer one year and kept driving through huge clouds or swarms (whatever you want to call them) It had to be at least hundreds at a time that were flying north. I'd never heard of that. They were amazing!

- The birth of baby - any kind. Watching a baby come out and take it's first breath and know what it started from continues to be awe inspiring for me.

- autumn leaves - when all the leaves are turning and most of the flowers are finished showing off, it's time for the trees to show off. They are so beautiful.

Three things in nature that are most beautiful--

1) The first spring flowers when they start blooming
2) The peepers that start chirping at dusk in the spring - I heard them last night
3) The fall leaves in all their splendid colors--although it is said to know that are warmer weather is disappearing

Three things in nature I find most beautiful:

1) Water: From fresh to salt; glass top to rapids. I can hard take my eyes off it!

2) The sound of peepers in the springtime. That is when I know we are in for wonderful weather!

3) The smell of a delicious lilac bush!

I too enjoy French Kiss and Miss Congeniality. Love the way Kevin Kline's character watches and smiles at her when she's imitating old French men.

I love watching the movie French Kiss. Romantic, yet so funny. While I'm cleaning, ironing, etc reruns of Law & Order. If I'm down and doing chores Weekend at Bernie's fixes me right up. The first one, not a sequel.

Good luck Rita in getting your membership back at the gym. I agree with all the points you have listed as to how exercising makes your feel. Have you tried any of the Leslie Sansone DVD or accessed any of her videos on UTube? I find that as long as I have a video running I will do it until the end.

Unlike you, I love to exercise at home and don't want the extra time it would take me to get to the gym. I simply go up into my bedroom where I have room to exercise, pop a DVD in the player and do it. Which reminds me, I went shopping out of town this morning, and haven't done my workout yet. Guess I better go do it.

Exercising??? Well I'm trying to get my membership back at the local Y. I've got my financial aid application filled out to hopefully get a discount again. It sucks to retire long before you planned to and have to live off savings while fighting for social security disability. Not like I wanted to stop working........ I better get off my soapbox.

Anyway, I'm having a hard time working out here at home. I miss the classes I was taking. I'm hoping to get back in before the start of May. Yoga, water aerobics, Zumba (just started), and there's a new kick-boxing class I wanted to give a try.

Exercise makes me:
1. more limber
2. have more energy
3. have less pain
4. sleep better
5. fights depression emoticon It makes things seem brighter!

To heal. I worked as a nurse in a hospital setting for 23 years and felt so helpless many times when all we could do was treat symptoms, but never cure what was causing them. I'd want stipulations added though. I wouldn't want anyone to know I could do it. Can you imagine what hell that would be?

For me the best aerobic exercise (preferred) is walking. Today I walked on the Eastern Trail for 3 miles (round trip) for the first time this year. It felt great! It was chilly, but I warmed up quickly. I'm learning how important and beneficial strength training is. I've never done it much, and the personal trainer is strong in this area. At the gym I do 60-70 minutes of strength training 3x per week now.

Probably the best kind of exercise is strength training especially if the moves are done with weights or stretchy bands. I also think that aerobic exercise which incorporates various leg movement such as kicks, knee lifts, and kickbacks has its definite place for body sculpting. The least effective exercise is probably straight walking unless done at a fast enough pace to burn calories. Exercises such as Yoga and Pilates also have there place--yoga for stretches, etc. and Pilates for more body sculpting moves.

The exercise that I like the best are the DVD's like Leslie Sansone and Jessica Smith that combine walking with weights and stretchy bands for body toning while doing aerobic moves.

It would have been easier to ask what I liked the most and least.

I think I see the most results with weight loss doing aerobics -- water and step.

But I'm getting a lot of pain relief and mobility from yoga.

I don't really see much from walking, plus walking makes my hips hurt. Due to my messed up back.

Great, one of our goals will be recipes. I'll start a separate thread for them.

Today I remembered a spring routine that I hadn't thought of. Putting up the hummingbird feeders. I follow their migration on a website map, and 4 sightings of hummingbirds have already been reported in Maine. So I made nectar and put it out. I enjoy watching them. Here's the link if you're interested: www.hummingbirds.net/map.html

You all are making me feel guilty that I don't have more of a spring ritual. I do try to wash windows, curtains, etc., but never all at once. Maybe the fact that I have to do everything by myself, and do it on an as needed basis is part of the reason.

One of my favorite spring rituals is the change over of out door gear. Swapping the snow blower for the mowers, snow shoes for bikes, pulling out lawn furniture and grill, and best of all hanging our wind chimes!! We got the chimes out two days ago. We will do the rest when we get home from Seattle!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Every Spring I take the heavy, insulated curtains down from my bedroom and after washing windows, sills, etc I put up sheers. It feels like I'm in a totally different room. All bright and sunny. I got new sheers the other day from the Christmas tree shop. Bright white. I have two side by side huge windows that takes up a lot of my bedroom wall. That's the only outside light in my room. No window in my bath. From there I with out my clothes.
'The windows got done the other day. The clothes are in the process...almost finished. emoticon

Hannah - I understand the love/hate relationship. I have combination windows that have the screen pushed up, and all I really need to do is push the storm up and pull the screen down, but they don't operate as smoothly as they should. I just can't call changing out the windows a ritual as I do each room on an individual basis as necessary.

One Spring ritual that I have a love/hate relationship with is taking out the storm windows and putting screens in. I love the fresh air going through the home. Our windows are old, fragile, and need mending or replacing, so working with them isn't easy...

I don't really have any spring rituals since I have practically given up doing any craft fairs. I used to have a craft fair that I did in June so about now, I would start making baskets furiously in order to have a good stock for the summer fairs. During the winter, I did basket classes and did have some things made from them, but with the nicer weather classes slowed down, thus more time to devote to my new stock.

We all seem to have a touch of spring fever. Do you have a favorite spring ritual? emoticon

Mine is the changing of the closet. The time frame for doing this is always tied to April vacation-a throwback from my days as in schools. This is when I bring out all of my spring/summer clothes and put away all of the winter outfits. It always feels like I just got a new wardrobe and since I have been losing weight, it is even more exciting because some of the clothes are now too big and need to be retired. emoticon

Good for you, Jenna. I have a goal to reach 135, but it has been a goal for a long time. I still have 5.5 pounds to go. Hopefully, I will reach this goal by summer?

I absolutely love daffodils and have a lot coming up this week. I have several different ones even some miniature size that grow a cluster on a single stem. I will try to remember to take pictures when they actually bloom.

Violets. They're so tough. I plant them in my flower bed one year and I notice more growing in places I didn't plant them. They've even managed to skip across to grow in another flower bed.

My goals for this are to try to track all my meals. Also to increase the number of steps I take each day. I have a 90 day streak going for achieving 6,000 steps per day, but I would like to increase that gradually to 10,000 steps a day whenever possible.

Monday, April 10, the Beginning of Week #4 of the Aloha Challenge

One of our healthy living goals is to set a goal (or goals) specific for yourself, and then work on it (them) this week.

Question: Have you set a goal for yourself?
Additional question, do you want to share your goal with the team? If so, what is your goal(s)? You don't have to share your goal if you don't want to.

I took tap when I was about 7 years old. I love to dance, but don't know any of the technical dances. I can waltz and after that it's whatever we did as teenagers in the 70's. Oh, I can do the Electric Slide. emoticon

I too took tap and ballet dance classes when I was a child--not very good at it, but then I was a chubby child and I think my mother was trying to find ways for me to exercise. I also went to contra dances while I was in grammar school and loved them

I have not danced for years unless you count the few cha cha steps in one of the DVD's that I do ona regular basis. I grew up dancing during the rock and roll era so probably dances like the jitterbug, twist, and similar are the ones I most familiar with.

I won't have to wish for the world peace and things like that because you guys already have that covered. So I can wish for family members to be supportive of one another. No child/spouse abuse. I think if a family is strongly bonded they can withstand pretty much whatever the world throws at them. It kills me to see kids that are afraid of or can't trust members of their own family. It would be a much better world populated by people that grew up being loved and supported.
Sounds kind of sappy, but I'd love to give it a try.

Posting late this evening and seeing such great responses. What I would love to see is of course peace in the world and everyone get along.
I wish each person could just accept each other, respect one another and tolerate differences. Show kindness everyday and if each person forcused on their own life each day in that fashion, peace would be the end result.

Oh, Jenna, I do know exactly what you mean. At one time I thought I wanted to be a teacher, but after spending a year at college for that and having to go to the schools to observe teaching practice, I decided my heart would break for most of the children I would be teaching. I would want to adopt them all or would get in trouble trying to get the parents arrested for not being more responsible toward their children.

Oooh! Tough question!!

If I had one wish, it would be for all children to have basic needs met. I believe kids need some 'hardships' to learn lessons, but it hurts me to see how many of my students come to school genuinely hungry, dirty and neglected/abused/burdened beyond their age or uncertain of where they will be spending the night.

If it is to be, it is up to me!

My wish is similar to the others expressed -- I'd wish for an end to cruelty and killing. On a personal level, I'd wish to be transformed into a person who loves to exercise!
