The bridge is too far away or you could see me writing my name on my underwear while the rest of you were putting on your bungee harnesses. Well I'm thinking thats the bridge. It's hard to tell from here. With tears in my eyes and wet pants.....well I hoped it was tears anyway, things looked different at the time.

I think I could do the gondolas if they are closed in and I didn't look down. As I said I am not too brave. I was never allowed to go on certain rides when I was a child--perhaps that is why I don't do them.

Rita - I don't think I would be brave enough to ride a Harley, but I like the control factors of driving things myself. I just don't like the idea of being on anything that is open to the air. My riding lawn mower is fine since it doesn't go that fast, but other than that give me something that is closed in.

People have told me that I'm silly to ride my Harley, well when I was able to ride. I'd say that at least on that I had control of the thing. I could determine where, when, and how fast I was going. Yes, I have to watch out for nuts on the road, but we all have to do that whether walking or driving anything. At least I'm not trying to ruin my vacation by swinging from an over-taxed rubber band. Think about. How many times has that thing been stretched before they hook it to you?

Nope! I'm only doing it on here because you guys are with me emoticon

Rita - You sound so much like I do, since I also have claustrophobia and am terrified of heights. I can assure you that I also would have my name in my underwear of tattooed on my skin. I would never do most of these things other than virtually.

Have a great day and keep your feet planted firmly on the ground.

Okay, I want to know why so many activities have to go against my claustrophobia? AND up where I can fall and actually need a witness or my name somewhere for identification? What's up with that? Up in little bubbles where it can fall from a little cable? Why? Swinging from a big rubber band? Again, why? Need I go on? If we need to be down there, why climb up high to start with?
I'm telling you, the people over there are confusing. They need help.

Rita, you made me truly LOL over the name on your underwear comment. Ha ha!

Rita - I think I would skip that bridge altogether. Bridges and I have never gotten along with each other. I have all I can do to walk across any bridge regardless of the type of railing it has
As a child I had nightmares of falling off a bridge, probably because our camp had a foot bridge in front of it with no railings on it. I had to be led across that bridge by someone holding my hand. I know I should trust my balance, but I still have to be led across bridge like that.

Okay, I would walk across the bridge ONLY if nobody else was on it. I just want to yell at that person that isn't holding on. "Hold on goofball!"

And I need a bigger harness for the bungee. I've put my name on my underwear. Just in case there needs to be identifications made.

I want to go snorkeling from that beach. Can we please?

We have arrived in New Zealand! We landed at Kaitaia NZ which is in the very north, and we're exploring the northern island of NZ. www.newzealand.com/us/kaitaia/ There is a 90 mile beach there!

Also, close by is where The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies were filmed.

We are so close to New Zealand, but not quite there yet. We have 581 more miles until we arrive. Our cruise ship took some delightful detours, so here are some areas we explored on our way to New Zealand:

The Cook Islands: www.cookislands.travel/page/indulgen

The color of the waters of the islands is stunning. We have wonderful spa treatment and yummy meals.

From there we boarded the ship and cruised to the Kingdom of Tonga. We were extremely careful there because recently 11 cases of typhoid have been reported (the things you learn when you Google :) ) www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/tonga

From the Kingdom of Tonga we cruised to the Figi Islands: www.fiji.travel/

We went on to New Caledonia: www.newcaledonia.travel/en/
We went for long walks and hikes to get used to being on land again. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Caledonia

We have crossed into the Coral Sea and are on our way to New Zealand. We'll be there very soon! I am so impressed with the beauty of this area!

I am excited that we are heading toward New Zealand and Australia. I have always been fascinated by novels I have read that base themselves in Australia. I find it hard to picture some of the things I have read and wonder if it was actually the way things are in Australia or the author had taken "poetic license". Maybe I will finds out this way.

Aloha! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I do too!

Catching us up on our adventures. We had a wonderful cruise to Tahiti! 2700 mile trip. Here are photos, links, and info on the beautiful islands of French Polynesia:
If you look closely you'll see our cruise ship in the distance.

From Google: "Tahiti
Island in French Polynesia
Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia, the South Pacific archipelago. Shaped like a figure-8, it's divided into Tahiti Nui (the larger, western section) and Tahiti Iti (the eastern peninsula). With black-sand beaches, lagoons, waterfalls and 2 extinct volcanoes, it's a popular vacation destination. Explored by Captain James Cook in the 18th century, it was also often painted by French artist Paul Gauguin.
Area: 403 mi²
Capital: Papeete
Population: 178,133 (Aug 2007)

Just dreaming of being in the Pacific and headed for Tahiti should make us feel warmer. Next week we are supposed to have warmer weather, but it is still rather cold here.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you're enjoying the trip.

Here's info I put on the daily challenge thread: Team, we're doing so well with miles that we're boarding a cruise ship in Hawaii and are headed to Tahiti! Everyone should have received new swimming gear, and if you didn't please let me know. Here's a link with a beautiful 2 minute video of the sites of trip. (I'm not endorsing the cruise line, LOL). www.princess.com/cruise-tips-vacatio

I agree, Sue, although I have never been kayaking, I have paddled a canoe many times, but not for 115 miles

Hannah, all your hard work researching or trip is greatly appreciated..

Today, is an excellent day to be in Hawaii whether it is virtual or not. Snowing here.

Love the feedback, thanks! And I like hearing about your experiences with Hawaii, travels, etc.

I'm enjoying doing the research, and am learning a lot.

So we have a lot of miles to use up, here we go! We started in Honolulu. The view from Diamond Head is amazing!

Link for the Top 10 Things to Do in Honolulu: www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g609

emoticon emoticon emoticon

We walked to the east side, rented some water equipment at Hawaiian WaterSports:
hawaiianwatersports.com And went to Kailua Beach Park, where we romped in the water, and sailed around the entire island.

We also explored the Ewa Forest Reserve. It's stunning!

Next we kayaked 115 miles to the 6th island of Hawaii, Kauai. Link for info about Kauai: www.hawaiigaga.com/kauai-map.aspx

The final Hawaiin island we explored is Ni'ihau: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niihau The population of this island is 130!

So team, that's our exploration of the Hawaiian islands. I'm sure there's a lot more to see and do. Have fun exploring them. I hope the links will lead you to more info and sites. We've currently used 4,700 of our earned miles and have over 2,000 miles still to use. I feel a cruise coming on! So get your sunscreen, new bathing suits, etc. ready!

Oooh I like the Sea Life Park!

My dad lived in Hawaii for a while as a boy (his dad was in the US Air Force). I should see if he remembers any details! He was pretty young though. About five years old I think. One of my uncles was born while they were stationed there.

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Aloha! Our wonderful adventure continues. We are currently in Honolulu! Enjoy! This is a well earned adventure!

We’ve explored 5 islands of the state of Hawaii (Hawaii, Maui, Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, Moloka'i) and have only 3 more to explore (O'ahu, Kaua'i, Ni'ihau). So next is O’ahu. We left the Moloka'i Forest Reserve and arrived on the east side island of O’ahu.

Famished, we had a yummy repast at the Ono Steaks And Shrimp Shack. www.yelp.com/biz/ono-steaks-and-shri

On Wiki it’s described as a “Funky, no-frills counter serve for seafood, burgers & Hawaiian specialties like loco moco.” - Google 41-037 Wailea St, Waimanalo, HI 96795 (808) 259-0808.

Other places we've explored are:

I agree Eileen! LOL!

So here's the next virtual installment of our trip:
Moloka'i! Wow, gorgeous!

Info from Google: “Molokai is a Hawaiian island in the central Pacific. On the island's northern Kalaupapa Peninsula is a steep path leading to Kalaupapa National Historical Park, an isolated former leper colony below towering cliffs. The site can also be viewed from the clifftop Kalaupapa Lookout in Palaau State Park. Nearby, the park’s Phallic Rock is said to have fertility powers.” Area: 260 mi²
Population: 7,404 (2000) Flower: Candlenut Peak: Kamakou

We arrived by snorkeling from Lanai.

An amazing place we visited is Moloka'i Forest Reserve. Here's a link and photo for it: dlnr.hawaii.gov

Aloha! Welcome to the smallest island of Hawaii, Kaho’olawe. We swam to this small, volcanic island from Kaupo, Maui. There are no residents on this island because of its conditions and size. www.waimea.com/kahoolawe-niihau Here is some interesting information from the KAHO'OLAWE ISLAND RESERVE COMMISSION

After swimming around the island, exploring it went on to the Pineapple Island, Lanai. It is the 6th largest island out of the 8 Hawaiian islands. There are no traffic lights on Lanai, nice. Please Google Lanai for images. They're stunning. We arrived in Lopa, rented kayaks, and paddled around the island.

Gorgeous!

Aloha! I manaolana e huli hana pono! Mākou Fashion mumulu mai, a ua hoʻokō ai na mile! We've been busy, and have accomplished so many miles! We've stayed around the islands of Hawaii and have been snorkeling, biking, climbing, and having a grand old time!)

After the 240 mile virtual bike trip around the island of Hawaii www.backroads.com/trips/BHWQ/hawaii-

we cooled off by snorkeling around the entire island, a 300 mile adventure. Here are some links about the sites that can be seen when snorkeling there:

Feeling tired we opted for a boat ride around all the islands of Hawaii, enjoying the sites, spotted whales, sea turtles and dolphins. March is part of the peak time to see Humpbacks in Hawaii!

We also enjoyed delicious Hawaiian food and drinks! Yum! www.polynesia.com/hawaiian-luau-food

After our boat ride we decided to explore the island of Maui. So we swam from Hilo Hawaii to Kaupo Maui. We had enjoyed biking Hawaii so much that we biked the circumference of Maui. www.bikemaui.com/ What a treat! It's so beautiful, and there is no snow...

So that's where we are. We still have another 500 miles we've earned for exploring, and I'll continue to catch us up!

Enjoy exploring the sites. What a gorgeous area we're in, all be it, virtually.

Take care everyone.

I am all in for the virtual bike. Actually, I love riding a bike but I am very nervous about riding on some of the roads around me. Cars are too fast and the roads are too narrow!. I have often thought of doing one of those treks across Maine, but don't know how to train if I am afraid to ride on the road! emoticon

Looking forward to the next scenic vista on this trip!

I might add as to the bike comments, it is much easier to ride a bike virtually rather than actually. I sold my regular bike many years ago, and although there is a bike of my daughter's n the barn I am not tempted to even try riding it. I learned to ride before most bikes had gears, etc.

That's so great Eileen! I bought a bike from LL Bean's a few years ago. It came in boxes, and I assembled it. The basket arrived first, LOL. When I was younger I loved to bike. I'm still a bit intimidated with this bike, but once I'm in better shape will use it more.

Day 2 of the Aloha Challenge, hurray! As of Tuesday evening we have already traveled 1,188 miles! Wow Aloha Team, well done! Our miles are from exercising, water intake and tracking food. Woohoo! It’s changed what I’d planned to do though, LOL. What a great reason for the change. I found a link for a biking route around the biggest island, Hawaii, and it’s about 240 miles… We’re way beyond that. So I’ll put up some link for exploring the islands, and then tomorrow night I’ll have Plan B in place. Again, well done team!

LOL Rel. We've moved to safer ground. Whew! emoticon

Miles earned as of the posting: 132

We landed at the volcano, Mauna Loa. It is still an active volcano but hasn’t erupted in 25 years. Whew! However, after seeing it we decided to go to a safer place so we started our trek across the center of the island. We arrived at Mauna Kea 35 miles later. It is the highest point on the island of Hawaii at 4,207.3’. It’s a dormant volcano, and is so beautiful.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauna_Kea

Next we continued on to the Waimea Farmer’s Market, 46 miles away, where we refreshed ourselves with delicious fresh fruit and veggies.
www.waimeafarmersmarket.com/

On to Kawaihae Harbor where we had a wonderful swim. We began to follow the shoreline and went on to Kukio, the “Billionaire’s Getaway”

From this morning's starter:
And the Aloha Challenge begins!!! Hurray. Our plane made a special landing on Mauna Loa, Hawaii's most active volcano. Take time to explore and look around. With the eagerness of so many members we'll be moving around the big island quickly.
