Greetings,

What I get from these verses is the importance, not only of planning, but of research, advice, and entrusting your plans to God. The last two of these have been the aspects that have been missing from my approach to food, as well as many other things in life. However, as I get closer to God and seek out advisers and form new connections with people, success is becoming easier and easier. I am learning the real value of fellowship and collaboration. It is truly a beautiful thing.~

I've been behind for quite some time and I'm still a little behind, but I've made a commitment to finish with depth and insight, not just finish. So if it takes me a tad longer, than so be it.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

When it came to eating, I excused away the necessary discipline. - I long for discipline. Ever since I was young and I would disappoint my parents all I wanted was to be better, to have the discipline it took to do the right thing when I had a decision to make. I would also look at athletes at school and wish I had a passion for something like that, something that would give me the desire to make the necessary sacrifices and be disciplined, but for me it never seemed to come. It's as if I never had a specific passion and then one day the little bit of passion I did have just started to die out little by little. So not only did I not get what I wanted and possibly needed (passion,) but what I did have was taken from me.

Question 1 - I love plans and I love to make plans. I love details and research and looking up the calendar and working things into a schedule. It's the execution of the plan that trips me up every time.

Question 2 - Truthfully there are very few times a plan has ever actually worked for me. They have worked on the rare occasion with short term things, but they don't seem to work on long term things for me. Maybe that's the key, only making short term plans or making a large plan, but only focusing on the short term goals.

Question 3 - Secrets and food are like an intimate (maybe even scandalous) relationship you want to keep private. In fact, I am more likely to talk to a close friend about my intimate relationship with my husband than my relationship with my food. However no matter how secretive you are about your food encounters, the results and consequences are impossible to hide. People may be polite about it, if your lucky, but the truth will always be hanging on you in layers of guilt and shame in the form of fat.

Question 4 - I'm okay with all of it except the Dr. part. I've had such bad experiences of Dr's scaring me to do what they think I should and /or give me lists and charts and insisting I do it their way. I've never had a kind, understanding dr who seems to actually care. In fact I get the impression that none of them have struggled with it themselves.

Question 5 - Flexible, real food, on the go capabilities, relaxed, something that gives me a real reason, meaning and that I'm passionate about. Some of the things I know the plan must include is more protein and less carbohydrates, more water, less sweets, more consciousness at all times and less focus on others, their plans and their ideas. I know enough to make it work, I have to start trusting that.

Never mistake failure as final

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

I'm pretty much on my own doing this healthy eating and living thing. I don't have a support system near me. I want to join a church family. I just have to find the time, but I really could use the support of a good church family. I remember how nice I felt on Sunday afternoons when I went and how everyone seemed to care for each other. (A lot like the ladies are here on this board.) Not trying to go off topic, but I blended in some of my own rambling ideas.

Joyce, I agree with you, we do need to have healthy food at our church activities. Why is it so unusual? And why does it always have to be high sugar foods, or high calorie casseroles?

emoticon Eric. (I almost missed your note, thanks for posting) He can feel good about himself for getting through the first step in this process. Hope he is trying some other things as well. Some Hospitals and Large businesses do their own Security. Getting all the way through one of these is very challenging.

Clayton ... eat with your diabetic children...4 small meals a day. Keeps your body from registering "starvation" emoticon along with exercise. I do not buy whole milk because I do like it so much. I have empathy for your situation!

I emoticon in Ch 3 about the "Food=drug" "Every church event readily provided my drug out in the open with no hesitation or judgment" Oh yes...how accountable is that?
I know I have set out grapes and almonds several times this summer while produce has been so available and priced well. But people do comment, "Joyce is trying to make us healthy again" Why can't healthy food be expected in our churches? emoticon

It sounds like you're doing real well with yourmeal plan. I am doing better, but I am still struggling with the "diet mentality". Yesterday all I had was yogurt and 2 boiled eggs for breakfast. I got reallly nervous at work so I left at noon, went for lunch with my husband. I had roast beef on a croissant and iced tea. I ttk a piece of strawberry cheesecake home with me, but I only took about 3 bites as it didn't taste that great. I remembered what I have learned so far from made to crave, and I didn't eat the rest. I had to go to the nursing home to help her wiyh her supper, came home and wasn't evenhungry, so I watchedsome TV and went to beg. I stepped on the scale and saw thatI lost abslutely nothing. I am so disappointed. I know it is just a number, and I am trying not to get frustrated. Anyone else ever feel this way?

P.S. Thanks to all that have prayed for my son Eric's employment with the Sheriff's Department here in town, he got notice yesterday that he has been selected for testing inOctober. Please continue to pray for him, as I know it is working! Thanks again so very much!

I agree with both the girls before me.
I hadn't thought before about giving my plans for healthy living to the Lord. And I don't really have a plan. I have a plan for my exercise, but not really my eating. I try to eat as many fruits and vegetables in a day as I can. I haven't looked into the meal plans, and I don't really plan, just track what I eat.

These verses challenge me that God wants me to plan and give them to Him.
And they encourage that when I do that I will have success.
Need to spend time this week planning????

The verses challenge me to seek wisdom before making any decision about the foods I eat.
These verses encourage me to commit my plans to /od through prayer, and it will
Succeed. This chapter made it clear that getting a plan is crucial, seek God's wisdom
When getting a plan, commit your plan to God if you want to see permanent
Success. Second crucial aspect is having friends with you.

i want to focus on giving my plans to the Lord, and I will succeed. In the book it had a suggestion to pray everytime I have a craving, so I am going to try and do that also.

I'm really enjoying the book!

The book of Proverbs is a wisdom book. It focuses on practical guidance to help God's people make good decisions--and it provides key insights about having a God-honoring plan.

*The plans of the godly are just. (12:5s NLT)

*Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; Take good counsel and watch them succeed. (15:22 MSG)

*Plans succeed through good counsel; don't go to war without wise advice. (20:18 NLT)

*Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. (21:5 NLT)

*Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed. (16:3 NLT)

In what ways to these verses challenge you?
In what ways do these verses encourage you?
What one piece of wisdom stands out to you as something you might rely on in choosing a healthy eating plan?
