Dr appointment was not great. Labs were off. A1C too high, cholesterol rose from 3 months ago, chronic kidney disease still there... I am making more of an effort now at good eating and making it a life long habit.

I hope all is well with you and the doctor appointment goes well!

I had a busy week with work, and also a leaking hot water heater at home. But that is taken care of now, and I got the day off of work today. So trying to catch up on all I missed in here now. Take care. Janette

One day of eating right and BG dropped 20 points. I see the doctor tomorrow. Maybe he will believe that I mean business about not getting on diabetes meds.

Need to get back to a semblance of eating right. My blood glucose is rising and I may have to be back on diabetes meds.

Friday's at work during the summer months are usually fast and easy, run in and run out. But sometimes things go crazy, and yesterday was one of those days. I was working at home from early morning and then had to go into work to run a bunch of reports, handle calls and email, deal with some rush bookkeeping. I ended up at work late with it all. And I still have to rush some bookkeeping this weekend for a couple of clients.

It is still cooler than it had been, but still warm and muggy during the day. But at least the mornings and evenings are not as bad as before.

Have a great weekend and take care

I know what you mean! All the best to you always.

I got in lots of walking with visiting clients and errands for work today. It was cooler than before still, but muggy so I just felt sweaty and sticky all day driving around. Luckily there was cool breeze every so often when I was walking around. A lot of place I have to go to there really isn't much parking space, so I end up parking several blocks away and walking back and forth.

Take care

True. It is very difficult to eat right unless you do all your eating at home. We cannot do that because then we would have no social life!

I hope you all had a great day! I had another day off from work. Just sent a few emails and made a few calls from home. Did some more laundry. I was warm but cooler day like yesterday. Watched some TV while doing the laundry. Now I am going to go to bed early. I have to go into work tomorrow run a payroll and then drive up the coast to visit clients for the bookkeeping run.

Have a great night and rest of the week.

Yes, everything is so expensive. And when shopping even the meat and such there has a lot of it that they have added salt and other bad stuff to it. You really have to look at the labels, and then it can be hard to find stuff that are low sodium, low cholesterol, low in bad fats and such.

JHennington, all the best to you! That is tough.

I am combining kidney friendly and Dash diet now. I have stopped eating what my husband wants... he loves fast food hamburgers and fries. I have given up fast food Ö and will now only have beef occasionally.

I missed grocery shopping yesterday, so today it is!

Speaking of money, have you noticed how much groceries have gone up? Restaurant prices are higher, so we are now only eating out once a week. Besides that, restaurant food is loaded with sodium!

Sorry to hear it! I know what you mean. Since going back to work, I just tried to concentrate more on just maintaining instead of worrying about losing. And then last year when the bf lost his job things got really tight. He found a new job, but makes a lot less than before so things are still tight. And my hours are really back and forth. My job is really seasonal, so we make a lot of money for about 4 to 5 months and then the rest of the year the money is really low and back and forth. At least I know that, so during the good months I try to save as much as I can to tide me through the rest of the year. But it is still tight.

I try to get frozen veggies and fruits in the house a lot, and fresh when I can and know I will eat it before it goes bad. I try to eat more whole foods and less processed, but it doesn't always work that way. Especially when someone else is doing most of the shopping and cooking, and doesn't want to eat healthy really.

Just do the best you can, and don't beat yourself up! Being a caregiver is a really hard job! I know I took care of my parents for years until they both passed away less than a year of each other. Be good to yourself and try to get some you time! All my best to you always.

I am struggling. Not gaining weight or losing but just not staying with the Dash Diet plan like I need to.. My husband's dementia has worsened and just so many different stressors in life right now.. I need to just try and simplify things and not be to hard on myself right now. It seems everything has gone up..food, utilities, rent. ..working on the budget so that I make the best decisions with my money..sorry..just needed to vent I guess.

I like the juicer taste better than the bullet. I mainly just follow the meal plans, or try.

Had a-fib yesterday afternoon. That means I am fatigued today.

We have a Breville juicer that we bought a few years ago. When we first go it, we used it a lot. We really love the taste of fresh apple and orange juice. We plan on using it again really soon. As for smoothies, we have a Hamilton Beach blender that we bought from Wal*Mart. I like it a lot. We also have a Cooks single cup blender, but I don't really care to use it. We still have it because other folks in the house prefer to use it.

I have a cheap juicer, and don't like it for that reason. Too many parts to clean, and the pulp side always needs emptied so many times before you get any juice amount to make a difference. I like the bullet better, it doesn't separate the pulp and the juice. It all goes in the same container, so you can have the fiber from the pulp a long with the juice. I am also not a big juicer or smoothie maker. I usually make them on the weekends or my day off if I have them. And I don't make a lot at a time, just the amount I want right then. And It is never my whole days meals, it is just a snack, or something for breakfast or lunch. Never my dinner or two or three meals.

I am not really a juicer or smoothie person. In the past I have gone on a juice fast and have a juicer, it is a lot of trouble...lots of parts to clean. For a week I had nothing but celery and carrot juice, this was a long time ago.

My dh uses the nutribullet for breakfast with protein powder, a banana and milk (whatever kind we have , almond, organic milk or coconut milk.) I take many supplements, so I need something solid in my stomach or I get nauseous.

I have put kale, and or spinach or spring mix in smoothies a lot. The taste can really be hidden with other stuff you add to it. I will put fruit juice or water in mine, plain or flavored greek yogurt, banana if I have it, and frozen blue berries, or mixed berries in mine. I don't use any protein powders, but you could add that. I have added a little nut butter before and that taste good too.

I enjoy smoothies for breakfast. This morning's smoothie consisted of 1 cup unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk, half cup unsweetened fat-free Greek yogurt, half cup fresh blueberries, half small banana, 1 tsp. ground flaxseed, chia seeds (previously soaked), 1/4 teaspoon agave (which can be very sweet), 3 Tuscan kale leaves.

Looks like a very balanced and healthy diet and I also read that it can lower cholesterol. My LDL was just a little bit high so I would like to see that come down.

One thing I was a little disappointed in as I went to recipes in the Dash cookbook was that there was no calorie count so you have no idea how many calories you're taking in. ( Unless you just break it down and figure it out yourself)

I just fixed a smoothie from their cookbook and since it said nondairy milk I had soymilk on hand so I used that with one half banana, 6 ounces of zero fat yogurt that was recommended, 1 tablespoon peanut butter and 1 tablespoon agave for sweetener which I would not do again. Also 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder but I think what I had on hand might not be unsweetened! ... Even if it were judging from all this it seems like this is a lot of calories! Any thoughts?

LUVS2BIKE101, the no salt alternative is potassium. Some people have problems with the potassium sodium balance. People with adrenal gland problems, for example and should never use that product.
If it is not a problem, it is probably safe for most.
I, for one, cannot use it and have to watch my potassium since my adrenal surgery. That being said, I have been doing well on the blood pressure since last year's surgery.

2BDYNAMIC, great that you do not have blood pressure problems. This DASH diet has been rated the best diet for heart and kidneys too. It is a great balanced diet!

I just joined the team today! To get started, I purchased the Dash cookbook. Plan to look over the recipes and start a list. My blood pressure is normal, but would like to lower my cholesterol and hello doesn't want to lose weight!

I am aware that too much sodium maintains weight and I exercise like crazy and losing evening pound is like pulling teeth LOL! So I am willing to make some changes.

I look forward to getting acquainted on an active team.

My parent and I have used Mrs. Dash Seasoning Blends before. My bf just prefers to mix together his own seasoning herbs. He also likes to use Himalayan pink salt sometimes in his cooking. But he knows I don't want a lot of salt in my diet, so a lot of stuff he will just put the salt on his own food and not on mine.

I am taking care of a little paper work today, washing my work clothes and doing a lot of relaxing. Take care

It is still hot here! I did some bookkeeping this weekend, but mostly rested in the evenings. And got to go to bed at a decent time without being woke up several times during the night since the kid was at his mom's house this weekend. I even got to sleep in a little Sunday.

Today was supposed to be a really busy and long day at work, but I guess my boss wasn't caught up with all he needed to do this weekend. So I actually got to go home around 2 pm. So I will be back in the office tomorrow morning to see what he needs me to still do. Sometime later this week I have to make a run up to some clients up the coast, but I am not sure when that will be just yet.

Take care

The kid woke me up at one in the morning Friday just to talk to me about the ants in the kitchen. We have been dealing with them hanging around the kitchen sink, and also the toilet and bathtub in the bathroom since it is so warm. I have been telling him for weeks to rinse off his own dishes and stack them in the dish washer, and not to leave them or food on the counter or in the sink. I already knew the ants were there for weeks, and we have just bought new ant traps. So there was really no reason to wake me up to tell me they were in the kitchen sink area, and especially not at one in the morning. I couldn't get back to sleep and just tossed and turned the rest of the morning. I heard the bf get up at 5 am and let the dogs out, so I just went ahead and got myself up and got ready for work early.

I had to go into work early Friday, and then drive up the coast to two clients in the afternoon for work. Luckily I got back after a few hours and got to go home after that. I came home and had to scan docs and send out emails for an hour. Now I am off for the weekend.

The boy went to his mother's house for the night while I was at work Friday morning. So at least he wasn't here to wake me up again. I am not sure when he will be back again yet.

Since the kid was at his momís for the night, I got to go to sleep in a really quiet house. I slept the night through until I was woke up at 4:30 am from the bf and dogs. I just got up quickly to pee, and then crawled back in bed and just rested. I could hear the bf and dogs moving around until around 6:30 am, but just tried to ignore it. Then the bf left the house for several hours and the dogs just came and laid on the foot of the bed quietly and let me rest until I decided to go ahead and get up at 7:30 am. Other than just doing some bookkeeping for work, and washing my work clothes, I am pretty much just going to rest this weekend.

It sounds like the next few weeks at work might be really busy again. I already know I am going to have to drive up the coast to see several clients and a few in Escondido next week too, along with my usual work.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Janette

Thanks, All my best to you all always.

It's still really warm and muggy, but not as bad as before, so I am eating more normal and my weight is back at maintaining. I am having issues with sleeping because it is too warm here all day and night for me. Plus the bf has decided to let his 13 year old son stay up as late as he wants for the summer. So I hear him up and walking around, opening and closing doors, turning on lights and such on and off until after 3:30 am. Then the bf gets up around 4:30 am each morning with the dogs and I hear them moving around until 6:30 am Ė 7:30 am, when he leaves the house for a while each day. So I am always getting interrupted sleep or little to no sleep, especially on nights when his son is here with us. I canít wait for summer to be over.

I am eating a lot of salads, fruits, and veggies with the heat, and lots of water

Thanks, I am not in pain now. The ones I passed was in March, and the ones that I have left they said are really small and in a place where they don't think they will cause any issues. Just don't want to make any more new ones.

Ouch, I hope you get better soon.

I like any kind of fruit. Also hummus and granola bars, low sodium.

My favorite snacks was apples, carrots and trail mix. But because of having kidney stones, I have to really limit carrots, nuts, some leafy green veggies like spinach and other healthy foods I was eating. So apples and popcorn or rice cakes are taking over right now. Cooked carrots is better for me than raw now, but still have to limit it.

I am doing my best to have meats cooked and veggies chopped. My dh gets hungry RIGHT NOW and does not want to wait for a meal, so I end up eating fast food with him. During the week, all is well, but on weekends... we eat out a lot. That is not good for sodium content!

So sore today from my last day of physical therapy. I will continue on my own. A friend has offered up her apartment's pool, gotta' break out the sunscreen! The pool we used for physical therapy has certain times "open" for $5. I will probably go there on Wednesday afternoons.

The jars I got were not large enough, for a big guy. So I gave him two this morning. We may go to plastic containers.

Today my dh told me he wants to take salad to work! Big step. Bigger surprise. That means I prepare it. I plan to look up those salad in a jar on Pinterest and prepare ahead for both of us. It is a huge help for me for him to say this. He has been the hamburger and fries king!

So going grocery shopping today!
