Accomplished a ton today. I cleaned, did laundry, painted two coats of paint in the little spare room and did dishes, all before 1:00. Now I have a little time to catch up on spark stuff before we have to go to a meeting. It's a good day. Thank You LORD!

I walked 45 minutes yesterday, but not at my normal speed. It felt harder yesterday for some reason. When I went to write down my numbers before turning the treadmill off, I noticed I was at a 2 incline instead of .5. I asked my husband and he said, 'oh, yea I changed it when I was on it.' I was a tad impressed that a 2 instead of .5 wasn't as hard as I thought it would be once I realized what was making it harder. My speed was only down by .2. So maybe I'll keep the incline at 2.

I am also thinking about taking over some projects in the house. My husband keeps promising to do things, but hasn't and the few things he started, he hasn't finished. So I'm going to pain one of the rooms and if those things don't get done before then, I'm doing them myself or calling someone to do it.

Just a tiny tip, if you can. It tends to be easiest if, while in those up-swings, take some time to evaluate. Try to figure out what triggered the up-swing and/or what is keeping it going. Sometimes we enjoy an up-swing so much, we forget to learn from it. There is certainly nothing wrong with enjoying it - enjoy the heck out of it, get all you can get out of it, etc.! But don't forget to learn from it either. What you learn may be able to help you cope through the next down-turn or might help you keep your up-swings lasting longer. Overall, I'm glad your enjoying your up-swing and getting a lot done.

I think overweight & clutter go hand in hand. I know that when I watch what I eat, I am better at decluttering.

I know what you are going through, as I get in those fogs sometimes, too. You described it well. I didn't know how to describe it. That is how my house gets SO messy sometimes!

When I feel better, things look better around the house. My goal is to get rid of excess stuff so that there is less stuff to clean up after I've been messy.

I know what you mean about the school systems and all their budget cuts. My husband works for our local school in the Tech department. He said he sometimes feels like McGyver trying to fix things without the 'proper' replacements. It's sad how people don't understand the situation.

I just heard yesterday that the therapy room and the former K room are being joined again (folding wall) to make a new Universal Pre-K. Bad for therapy for wonderful for Pre-K. We lost ours a few years ago, and want one back. Not sure how the noise will affect my kiddies. On to day 2.

Kat and Becky, At least we did NOT get the possible tornadoes that could have developed in the last few days here! And the hurricane Irene, I need to check that out. I missed watching any weather reports yesterday. I hope the southern states were safe. There was a special on our TV a couple of days ago about the 1955 flood here in New England. Whole towns were devastated.

Glad your bike ride went well, Becky! And Kat, you had a varied weather day! Makes life interesting!

I guess I will go to school again today to get rid of more boxes from my classroom. Maybe it will actually be a neat room this year. It has been very "un-neat" for about 5 years now because we moved from a large building into a "shoebox." That is what my principal called these portable classrooms.

Our bike run turned out pretty good yesterday. It ended up raining every time we were inside a building. I love it when things actually work out to our benefit. I'm also enjoying my new iPad. And almost have a cross stitch project I've been working on. Now I have another one to start and I have 4 more to finish before October - they are Pastor appreciation gifts.

I really love the OHIO acronym. If only I could do that with paperwork. Worked at school a few hours this AM then drove 2-1/2 hours to see the grand daughters before their first day of school on Monday. They were bummed I did not stay overnight. It was a really nice drive today.

I like our OHIO, but I rarely succeed with that one. I just thought you had done a very good job of self assessment on the whys and whens of your over eating. I often over eat when some one else has done the work of preparation, even if the food is only mediocre. That is kind of dumb. Better to wait on really good food. Took my former aide out to dinner tonight, we do really good salads. I got a plain chive baked potato and she got a deep fried chicken sandwich with sugar sweetened lemonade. I got my usual UNSW tea with 3 pieces of lemon, which I squeeze there in the restaurant.

This is supposed to cut down on time spent rereading papers.

It would cut clutter, too.

I am not sure if I am right, but this is how I view my clutter/eating problem:

When I am having fibro fog or am having a succession of sleepy days, I cannot take care of clutter. I don't put anything away. I can't make the decisions as to where they should go! and I have no energy to take them to the correct places. I know I am doing it. But I can't seem to force myself to put th e things away. When I feel better in a day or so (sometimes as long as 2 weeks) I start putting all those things away.

When I am in that fibro fog or having a succession of sleepy days, I also eat to excess. So I see the connection as feeling bad/binging, not as clutter/binging.

I hope that makes a little sense.

That's one of the things I use journaling for. I take time out of my life when I'm not so overwhelmed and I journal about the things I have finally have time to think about. I've even scheduled time into my calendar at times when I know things are getting really crazy and I need to take a step back and evaluate from a different angle. I've even been rude about it when I have to be. Certain people think they have a right to intrude on my time during certain circumstances and I've learned to let them know they don't.

I know I have a hard time getting things put away in logical places. And I know I have a hard time saying "NO" to the next bite of food even if I know I am eating too much. But I had no idea these were connected! Here is a link to more information about that. www.eatingdisordersblogs.com/healthy

i do like the thought eating out twice for one price i so do love those buy one get one free meals such award that everybody likes to hear that

Well, I was in my car, so I didn't have anything to put the other half in, but I did make the decision / plan to only eat half ahead of time.

I'm also proud of myself on a financial level. My husband is overly frugal....also known as stingy and he hates it when I go out to many times for lunch. So this was like going out for lunch twice, but only paying for it once.

That is another one of my issues - Eating out. For me it's such a pleasure that I can't avoid or resist. I love the change in atmosphere, the change in food variety, getting out of the house and enjoying something I don't have to prepare or clean up after. I enjoy those things a little too much some times though and don't watch portion sizes.

oh wow that is great i may say to myself but when the plate arrives to do that and not be tempted to eat it anyway because i know it is still there. my mind just loves for me to be fat and always clean my plate and sometimes the pot as well

Yesterday I had a big, yet small accomplishment. I tend to eat things just because they are there. I even eat things I don't even like if its in front of me long enough.

There is a fast-food / Italian restaurant here that I love to go to for lunch, but their portions are huge. I usually end up eating the whole thing because it's there, they gave me it as a meal and I hate waste, but yesterday I decided ahead of time that I wasn't going to eat the whole thing. I decided it was big enough for two meals and I would divide it into 2 meals. So I divided the baked rigatoni in half and only ate half and one of the sides which leaves me the other half and the other side for lunch today. I'm so happy with myself.

I KNEW there'd be a scout law about cleanliness!

Thank you,WANNABESKINNYME, for proving it!

Now I just have to try to live up to it! emoticon

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

I had a large Doberman when my 1st 2 kids were babies. He slept under the cribs and camped out under the high chairs. No crumbs usually even hit the floor. If they did, he was a quick draw with the mighty tongue. I have a thing for big black dogs, any breed. They are most frequently euthanized. I've had Dobies, Rotties, Black Labs, Lab/GSD mixes, and now Lily who is jet black with tan trim points, but does not have the size or body confirmation or muscles of any Rottie. She feels like a shepherd, sounds like a screaming meeme or banshee. Pretty, sweet, gentle, affectionate, but even the vet says not a Rottie. She was offered from rescue as a Rottie-Husky. Not Husky either. She is a sweet mystery. I really think she is Retreiver and shepherd. She is constantly carrying something in her mouth. She was on PetFinder, and I drove 4 hours just to see her, with no commitment. But she is a good car rider, so it was a nice trip.

Thanks for the advice on the pets and sharing how you have done things. It sure helps give me ideas and helps me realize I have many options, not just a couple.

I think the hardest thing for me now is the waiting. I chose our last two dogs and now my husband is kind of insistent that he has the majority say in the next one. I loved her dearly and I even still grieve at times for the one we had to put down a couple years ago, but it doesn't stop me from wanting another one....now. One never takes the place of another, but I'm eager to fill my home, my arms and my heart with another one to love. Truthfully I wanted one as soon as I found out she was sick, so I would have something to come home to. I remember the last one we had to have put down - when we came home, our dog at the time sue made it so much easier. But my husband has different ideas and opinions and I'm trying to be patient and understanding.

On a positive note. The adoption organization where we got her called today to tell me they would work with us to find whatever we were looking for next. They think very highly of us and even offered us some opportunities that they don't usually offer other people. It made me feel much better, but also made me want to run right out and start looking at the puppies. I hate to wait. It certainly is not one of my virtues.

On pets eating the last few bites: Well after our last dog passed away, I noticed our kitchen floor was sticky. I realized he had been keeping it "clean" for me. Well, let's say cleaner , not clean.

Miss him still, Ruffin. emoticon

On de-cluttering, we removed the recliner from the kitchen. It went this morning to the newly painted and newly floored LR. Point is, now I can walk right up to the pantry. 4 sections wide, 15 inches deep, and floor to ceiling. It holds non perishable foods, seasonable cooking utensils - roaster, crockpots. Now I can re-arrange for healthier choices and easier cooking. This is good. Also can proceed with plan for slightly lower cabinets and counter under window wall. That is for baking pans and sheets, small electric appliances, and a few other seasonal items I want out of pantry. And a pull out strong shelf for the Kitchen aide mixer and bread machine. No good place to use them now. I am so short, I set them in the deep bowl of the kitchen sink, and make sure the faucet is directed to the other side of sink. Not the best solution. Funny, my very short mother did the same thing. It works.

Down the road, not this week or next, but in the future, you may consider another fur covered friend. I can;t usually go longer than 3 months without a new friend. It takes time to grieve the loss, I do understand. In the mean time, try really had to cook slightly smaller amounts to reduce the amount of left on the plate bits. Or cook serving sizes and pack as leftovers before you start to eat. Look for creative ways to reduce the stuff left on the plate, it will also help your mind think of other things.

We have an aging big guy and a middle age gal - very large breed. Just in end of May, I acquired a new pup as a replacement for the big guy who is still healthy, but reaching the maximum normal life span for his breed. Our 5 year old has never been an only dog, so we got the lovely Lily pup for Cindy. It has been a very happy adoption because we work hard to make it be that way. The big dogs seem to love the pup. They treat her very well. I mourn the ones I've lost, but treasure the new ones I rescue.

I find it funny that this thread popped up when it did for me. I recently had to have my dog put down and she was great at eating those last few bites I knew I shouldn't eat because I had reached full, but were too little to save. I'm now worried about it. I hate waste, but I also don't want to ruin progress - I feel like I'm stuck.

That has been my motto and our good friends do come and don't care about the house. This group is different. Ha--different to me. The "to me" is hitting me hard. They are neighbors in this condo complex of 49 units. Mostly older people and many Jewish (I am Catholic). From what I have seen their homes are perfectly ordered. Am I the one being pregidicial? Hmmm???

I have a new condo social club coming to my house Tues. evening! I have been trying for 3 weeks to get the clutter taken care of . Then sleepiness hit me for 4 days. I am panicking! I must have been coming down with something. Today my head is worse and throat, too. But I have more energy and I just cleaned the dining area--which is part of the living room and very visible.

I fully understand how hard it is to get cleaning done! And the anxiety(and lethargy) was causing me to eat things I have been staying away from.

Clutter and eating are definitely connected!

Chris

That's such a good feeling. Everything here is torn up here to work on the LR. Crazy. Driving me nuts. We have to seriously de-clutter so we can move the right things into the the LR. In the mean time, every other space is mass chaos. Gotta fix before school starts in 13 days. Sigh.

I cleaned a kitchen cabinet yesterday. It had pantry-type foods. Some were duplicates because I did not know what I had. It is nice and organized now so I can make meals much quicker! Chris

Now I have to say I've been aware of my shortcomings for a long time. I was a S.H.E. in the 1970s, and a Fly Lady in the 1990s. Did better with S.H.E. (Sidetracked Home Executives). We did extensive trashing last week, in prep for living room remodel. But there are good things that are now in inconvenient places till room is done. That feels just wrong. Going to kitchen to trash out counter tops. I know, baby steps, but I don't want baby steps, I want to be clean and neat now, this instant, all organized. Sigh. 15 days till I go back to work. I need some organization before that.

This is SO true! Flylady says, "You can't organize clutter, you can only get rid of it." http://flylady.net

If I keep with the de-cluttering, everything feels lighter, including my spirit. When I release something that does not bring me joy, I make myself open to something new.

I'm looking forward to a NEW outfit because my old ones are starting to not fit so well anymore :) And when I get to my goal weight I am getting extra holes in each ear so those beloved orphaned earrings will have a new home. (But only the ones that work on "extra" holes, not every orphaned earring has made the cut!)

I got rid of un-used and un-wanted wedding gifts from 1970. Didn't like them then, but moved, protected, and saved for 41 years. YUCK. Dumb on my part.

We've been downsizing for 3 years.
If you have not worn it or used it in 3 years, give it away, sell it or throw it away.
Don't hold onto things because someone gave it to you. It was the giving that counted, not the item

I have been saving, moving, caring for, and protecting fabric - some of it for 40 years. When we cleaned the room, I discovered it had been a home for mice. YUCK!!!! I threw out at least a bushel of new but un-usable fabric. I feel sad that it was wasted, and I did not complete those gifts and but, don't miss it.

As we have been working to remove clutter from our house, DH and I have given a great deal of thought to how clutter in the home leads to clutter in other areas of life. Do you have too much "stuff" in your home? in any other areas of your life? in your food choices?

Do you think that the attachment to "stuff" has any relation to attachment to eating habits in your life?

I believe that if we can de-clutter our lives, it will be easier to de-clutter our eating. If you have made a small accomplishment in cleaning out your life, please share with the rest of us.
