This is a great way to start the new year. I am using this run up to the first to familiarize myself with what there is to assist me in this challenge.

Good luck to all and have a great safe and slimming new year.

I guess my goal for this week is pretty specific. I actually have two.

1) I want to ensure I get my 8 glasses of water a day, which is something I struggle with.
2) I want to get in a minimum of 10 minutes of strength training every day by working the muscle groups in a rotation cycle (back and bi one day, shoulders and tri the next day, legs and abs the next day, rinse and repeat). I also received for Christmas a dance video game for the Wii, which really got my heart rate up and was an awesome cardio workout. My plan is to do that each night as well for 30 minutes.

My first goal for the new year is to get back to where I was sitting about 14-15 months ago. I've put on about 12-14 pounds and need to get back into the 153-155 range where I sat for so long. Once that goal has been reached, my next one will be to get under the 150 mark. I did quite well the last time I participated in a booot camp challenge and am hoping that this one is just what I need to start heading back in the right direction.

Greetings, fellow Jump Starters! I'm beginning today. Why? Because it's a Wednesday in December. Nothing terribly auspicious or important about this day in and of itself. Great day to start something new without all the hubbub and pressure. And if I start today, I have a four-day streak going into the new year.

So, here's to us: To the first Spark challenge of 2012, may it bring fun, friendship, and success for all.

Hi to all. I am starting the challenge on Sunday as well, but using the time before to become familiar with the site and how to use properly - accessing videos, tracking and recording. I love all the things the Sparksite offers especially since I do better when I work with others. I choose to focus on what I will be gaining as I lose weight, rather than focusing on what I am losing. Healthier body, ability to move better, to fit in smaller clothes, to be able to wear my wedding rings, to play with my Sunday School class without getting winded.
Remember that Sunday is the first day to a new habit and to an ongoing healthier living streak.

Good job and GOOD LUCK to everyone. I've decided to officially start on Sunday but I did the day three video yesterday along with a 10 minute walk and 20 minutes of Just Dance on the Wii. I intended to go to the gym and run on the treadmill for 30 minutes before work but couldn't drag myself out of bed. I usually don't have trouble with that but these past two days I've been so exhausted. I think it's a holiday hangover from all the crap food I ate and coming back from a four day weekend. I did do the day four video today once I got to work. I can squeeze in a 10 minute walk at work but will have to find 20 minutes someplace else. I'm leaving straight from the office to have dinner with a friend. I want to get a Jumpstart on January.

I have been off and on (mostly off) try8ing to lose my weight and I have noticed a steady increase in my weight. though I am nearing 50 that does not mean that I am unable to lose weight. My health is my primary concern as I am a candidate for diabetes and hypertension. I have gained 40 pounds in the last 3 years and feel older than I am. Here is to the new year! I plan to drink 1 glass of water a day.

My one and only goal for the first week is to do it all 7 days!!!!!

I will find a way. In 2012, I have decided that I have to do some things for myself, and working out is one of them!! This challenge will be a great help.

Thank you for doing it!!

I've decided to start now instead of waiting until Jan 1st. I did a 60-minute Turbokick class at the gym after work, so I got my cardio in. I didn't get my first weekly challenge email until late so i will start the 10-minute ST videos tomorrow.

We can make this happen!

My goals for this week
I am joining the new challenge at the local YMCA it begins Jan. 2 and runs for 12 weeks. A person ahs to do 30 min. a day or some sort of workout.
I will do a video first thing in the morning before I go to the Y. It will be a great way to warm up for whatever I decide is my workout for the day.
I also plan on walking to and from the Y which is 30 min each way, the fresh air should be great.
I plan on getting back to tracking regularly as the past couple weeks have not been good.

This is just what I needed!

I'm 51, and I am reinventing myself.
I'm in school and I need to add this to my schedule.
I have to study so hard that I forget to take care of myself. It is my last semester and I want to look great when I start my new career. I also need that IPAD2!!!

Looked at the video and just joined tonight. I have already worked out today and to tired tonight. I want to start fresh tomorrow.

Good luck to you all!

Day 1 video done. Intro was done last night.

Goals:

1. To make time for the program every day for the next 4 weeks so that it becomes a habit when I move on to the next challenge.
2. Get the first 5-8 pounds out of the way. It seems that getting started is always the hardest for me.
3. Get through the challenge so I can feel fit enough to start training for a 5K run.

Starting today so I did one video (8 minutes of cardio - harder than I thought) and ran/walked 31 minutes on the treadmill. Hopefully I am starting a long habit of consistently exercising and tracking my food.

Hi all. My goals are listed below--they are goals that I began at the beginning of this month and I plan to continue with them for at least a couple more months. They really do fit in with the Challenge goals, too, so how lucky is that?!

I just joined up today, late afternoon, and completed the first SP video. I'll officially begin the 30 min. cardio workouts tomorrow.

Goal: to faithfully complete the challenge.
Goal: NOT to be discouraged by the incredible people who will log way more fitness hours than me, or manage to track every meal every day, or meet all their nutrition goals every day.
Goal: To be kinder to myself and accept a good job, even a great job but not demand a perfect job~

My goal is to follow the workout challenge consistently. There's much to be learned from managing my workout plan on my own, but my purpose for joining the Jumpstart workout challenge is to learn from the structure that is built into each week's activities.

My goals are:
1) establish a routine
2) complete the daily/weekly challenge goals
3) incorporate other things into my HM training

*if* I lose weight or inches in the next month than that's a bonus. Right now, it's about the routine building.

I joined the challenge today and honestly it doesn't matter if they start my time today or on the 1st. I know that this is to help me maintain the drive and motivation that I have had this whole month of December. My goal is to get in the cardio along with the cross training that I am doing. I would love to drop inches and pounds. I won't put a set amount because to me getting in the workouts is the most important step right now. Doing that will be my guarentee that I will be at my over all goal of being @135/125 by 12/1/12

I joined the challenge today, but since I am away on vacation this week, I probably will not actually start until this weekend when I am back at home. I am very interested in this challenge and I am hoping it gets me back into a routine.

Goals for January:
~See an increase in my total body strength.
~Do cardio 3-4x/week, 30minutes each day.
~Do strength exercises 3-4x/week
~Lose 4lbs through the month - that'll be 1lb/week and if I lose more that's great, but 1lb a week would be a good range.

I love the ones where it's only her without the other walkers, it makes me feel like she's MY TRAINER lol, right now I'm doing the 2 mile walk with weighted belt every day of the week....I plan on adding another mile next week to my daily walk....in the evenings before dinner to bring my daily walk to 3 miles.

ZUMBAGIRLTN (Kimberly) I looked at the video's too but didn't do any yet...I will today tho!!

LULUTYM I too have trouble with consitency! But together were gonna do this!!!

POOKASLUAGH (Amanda) I too ain't starting till the 1st...but I am working out tho, just not counting it as this challenge yet...it starts on the 1st and so will I. I'm following it to the "T"

WINKERDINK (Wendy) I have trouble eating enough too...hard to believe that someone weighing 354 pounds don't eat enough huh?....hard to figure that one out!!

CAM767 (Charlene) WAY TO GO ON THE WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR!! That is AWESOME!!!

PUNKYPOWER21 your workouts sound like mine! I love WATP's!!!

Hi...I've been up and down with my weight and here on sparkpeople ...but I've gotten back on track in the past few months with the food and am losing very slowly. Now to get the exercise ramped up higher! I will be going for surgery in 6-8 months (thyroid), so I want to lose as much as possible before then. Ideally I'd love to be down 50 pounds. I have a very slow metabolism and a bad knee, so exercise is important but I need that push. I'm hoping that the 10 min. videos will help me over the 'not enough time' excuse.
I'm also getting my daughter to join along with me.
I'll be trying out the new exercises this week and officially starting on Jan 1.
