THR: Closet to my goal achieved was 132...at the upper end of the beginner range. So glad I got to learn about this!

W to H: 1.1 (Slight increase)

BMI: 30.7 (Slight increase)

This is so not me...my body seems like it is gaining faster and faster lately. One thing was that I stress ate a lot this month...after not having done so for a few years. I am not going to make excuses about some of the choices I made, but I will say that I remember having going through this after my older son was born, where I lost a bunch right when he was born, then slowly gained it back. The baby is about the same age now as when that happened. It's not fun.

Sending good thoughts JO. Please when the challenge is over post your results. I am in the path of hurricane Sandy so don't know if I will have power or not. I will catch up with everything if I do lose power when it is restored. Carry on.

Struggling to stay on track right now. I have my good days and my bad. Wish I could get in more cardio. Eating has been ok but I need to track it. Struggling right now with a little bit of depression and anxiety.

Doing a little better with the calorie intake and hoping for a good weigh-in tomorrow morning. I have now found my "usual" bpm for some brisk walking, pushing myself a little harder, gets my heart rate to about 130 bpm. Very interesting...

How is everyone else doing?

Well, I got close to the lower end of my THR today for intermediate, and all it took was a 12 minute walk. Sadly this was the first time I really exercised this week...

I am so frustrated with my weight right now...and lack of time for myself in general with everything I have on my plate (and yes...my meal plates are also a little out of control).. But I'm glad this challenge is drawing my attention to the need to get my heart going, and pick up the pace when I DO have time to walk.

And I miss running emoticon I hope to get to it this weekend.

Progress:

When I can fit in a good wog or walk I definetely meet my THR. I've been getting in cardio where I can. It's been a tough month with weather, kids and hunting season.

I haven't really lost any weight but I haven't gained either.

How is everyone doing. Sorry I haven't checked in more. It has been a crazy October.

Progress so far.--I swim twice a week so I am not sure if I am working in my THR then but I believe so. The times I am on the recumbent bike I am at or near my THR You are only allowed 20 minutes on the bike and it takes about 15 to get warmed up. emoticon I am in my zone when I am on the treadmill. I am still only at 3 minutes on the elliptical. I will conquer this machine by the end of the year. It may kill me but I will do it.

How is everyone else doing? Let's hear some progress reports. We are about 1/2 done.

Heart rate target 134 - 170 bpm

BMI - 27.1

w to h ratio - .79

By the end of october I would like to be at 26.5% for BMI and .75 w to h ratio

(I'm not sure if these are realistic or not but I'll try)

ROCKRUNNER:

Well, I have had it since I was 27. Actually it was a fluke that it was discovered. AS a nurse, we had to have a spinal x-ray to make sure there were no restrictions on lifting.

Mine is mild, but as I have gotten older, I noticed that my rib expanse has gotten a little larger. No pain or other problems. The most serious issue with moderate or severe scioliosis is breathing can be impacted. I have none of that either.

I DO consciously work on back extensions and other back exercises, as well as core exercises, which make the abs stronger to help support the back.

A chiro visit might be worthwhile. esp. if you're having symptoms ! Good luck and let me know (if you want) what happens.

Love is the root of all things good in life.

So I got my 5 days in this week for 10 minutes...not sure that all the days were in my target heart rate but I will only learn more and make it better from here. My longest streak of 10 minutes/5 days per week is 4 weeks, so I am excited that participating in this challenge will help me to break it!

1CRAZYDOG How are you doing? I read up on scoliosis after reading your post--this has been in the back of my mind too and you helped me take a little step in resolving some questions I have about my own health. I am wondering if maybe this is something I am experiencing too--I have never been to a chiropractor but hope to schedule a visit to one early next year to confirm.

BMI: 20.9
RHR: 65
THR: (65%) = 128
(75%) = 138
(85%) = 147

Waist:Hip Ratio = .88 (definitely WAS apple shape when obese, and bone structure of abdomen is a "little off" as I have mild scoliosis (curvature of the spine) which alters the anatomy of the abdomen). IF I can reduce this, that would be good

I know it's a day early but here are my stats:

BMI: 20.9 (unchanged, but that's alright!)
RHR: 68 (also unchanged, but that's alright, too)
THR: 147 (85%) -- have reached this goal consistently

Waist to hip ratio: 7.8

waist: 25 in. (2.5 in. reduction! Happy for that!)
hips: 32 in. (unchanged)

BMI: 30.5. (Bordering on the Obese range and dipping my toes in it).
W to H Ratio: 1.05 (Apple shape...high health risk by definition)

These numbers are bad. They have been for a long time....I'll admit this has been discouraging and probably has hindered my progress so many times. But thanks to these threads I know my target heart rate so I'm optimistic that I am going into this learning something new. This October I will hit my 5 year Sparkversary. If there ever was a time to challenge myself it's now.

I don't know what to put for numbers on the W to H ratio...so ANY improvement will make me very happy.

I would like to see my BMI get to 26.

emoticon GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

The Halloween Challenge will start on October 1 at 12:01 am and will end on October 31 at 11:59pm There will only be a first place winner in this challenge. The winner will have their choice of a 300 point goodie.

Please post your BMI and your waist to hip ratio on this thread. At the end of this challenge what do you want those numbers to be? By how much do you think you can bring it down? We all know that by working out within our target heart rate for at least 10 minutes a day 5x a week at least is the best way to burn fat and lose weight. Your challenge is to do just that. For at least 5 days a week, work out within your target heart rate for at least 10 minutes, preferably at least 30 minutes. This is cardio, not strength training.

On the last day of the challenge before 11:59 pm post your BMI and waist to hip ratio again. Whoever has the most improved numbers will win the challenge.
