Hello, i joined this challenge yesterday. Once in awhile when I crave sweets I grab a mini twix. I usually keep one bag of mini candy in the house for me when I crave sweets. Once in a blue moon I would get frozen yogurt instead of ice cream.

Hi. I joined this team and the challenge to eat healthy food substitues 3x a week, instead of the sweets.

I am a sweet and salty addict. I seem to need both, one behind the other as a snack, after lunch or in the evening. I know stress adds to this and somehow I need to curb it to LOSE the weight I need to lose.

Let me know what else I need to do to follow this challenge. Thank you.

Hi, all!! I joined this challenge because I'm engaging in changing my lifestyle, and I know that two things really get in my way: a sweet tooth and an inability to stick with a work out schedule.

I tend to eat sweets when I'm stressed, but they are also hard to resist at social events. Of course, since I am often stressed at social events, the availability AND the trigger are right there together.

So, this is me recognizing that I need to be intentional about fixing this problem.

Day 3 - Like most of you I have a real problem limiting my sugar intake. I'm like an addict - once I start it's almost impossible to stop until there's no more -- cookies, candy, cake, donuts (pick one). I've been concentrating this week on trying to find the trigger that causes these cravings, but there doesn't appear to be one specific trigger. At least I've become more aware of what I'm eating and why.

Hi everyone, I joined this challenge because like many of you I have a sweet tooth and even though I do not suffer from diseases like high blood pressure or diabetes, I feel it is important I learn how to enjoy sugary foods in moderation, which has been one of my main struggles in my weight loss journey. I hope to learn techniques to tame my sweet tooth once and for all and achieve my health and fitness goals.

Hi I joined this challenge because I know I have a sweet tooth. I used to be good at controlling my sugar intake, but now I don't just stop at one chocolate bar, I'll eat two or three. I have a hard time going to the grocery store without buying chocolate especially if I am hungry. Since I know this is a problem, I try my best to be full before I head out to the grocery store. I am really going to try over these next four weeks and to tame my sweet tooth. Hopefully this will give me the encouragment and motivation I need :)

I joined because I am trying to cut my sugar intake. If I eat one piece of chocolate, I can't stop at one...I either can eat sweets or I can't so I am trying to get to the point where I can stop or I can control. I get frustrated because I do crave sugar and try to eat fruit in place of something bad like cookies or cakes but sometimes it just doesn't fill the craving. So I can either eat it or I can't.

I just started this challenge because I am a diabetic with a bad sweet tooth. Of course the week that I decided to start was also my birthday week and I have been a very bad girl eating multiple cupcakes and fudge cake slices a day. At the end of the 4 weeks, I hope to not only be more aware of my triggers, but also get them under control so I can be better about my diabetes. emoticon

What brings you to this challenge? I have a nasty habit of over indulging in sweets

How is your week going? It is 9:22 p.m this week has been okay so far, I was able to have one chocolate cupcake without frosting, not the best but better then my usual.

What have you learned about your sugar cravings so far? I know my trigger is diet soda, and pms, however I have severe trouble not drinking the soda. I can go a day or two then cave.

What do you hope to accomplish at the end of 4 weeks? Be not drinking sodas, and finding healthy substitues for my sweets like fruit and natural sweetness, so that the weightloss journey can finally be a success.

Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections.

I just signed up for this challenge....especially since I just went and had a healthy lunch @ Subway, then went next door and got a bag of chocolate malted milk balls and bullseyes.

I am making so many positive changes....working out, eating healthier meals, but I struggle with the sweets....always have.

This is day 2for me I have cut down on my sweets a lot for about a week now. The first 3 days was the worse for me. Sweets are my trigger food if I give in I overeaten I don't stop with just 1cookie I got to have at least 4 so I am trying to have the willpower to leave them alone. I have to hold myself accountable and be honest to myself I can do this I will succeed.

What does having a perfectly portioned size of a sweet cereal (Apple jacks) sound like? Good idea or bad idea? Just wondering...thinking about being able to grab and go as I feel the need?
Just a question? I hope everyone had a good day!

I have noticed that I mainly eat sweets because I am bored and because it is there. So far today I haven't had anything sweet.I have been tempted to eat something sweet but realized how much exercise to do to burn those empty calories Was able to be on the elliptical machine for 45 minutes, last week I was only able to use it for 30 minutes.

I started day 1 today.

Tracking is going well. Iíve found I eat more sugar then I thought. I havenít really had any cravings but, I found that when someone in the house was eating something sweet I tend to join them.

Like after dinner my mom was having ice cream and soon everyone in the house was having it too. Itís like some sort of sugary peer pressure.

Now that Iíve come to realize this I am interested to see how the rest of the week goes.

Week 1 really made me aware of how much sweets I consume daily and how I feel when I crave them. I noticed most is that I crave sweets when I'm tired or stressed. And when I thInk about it I am usually in those states at sometime everyday. So now that I'm aware I will try to eat something different like chocolate covered raisins or apple with Carmel dip as alternative vs an empty calorie cookie or candy bar. I can change one day at a time.

Day 7 and although it seems that an ear blockage has turned into an infection. I am just praying that the Dr. that started me down this path will see me this morning because I can't take another day like yesterday. I did manage to track and keep my sugar down. I almost have the first week under my belt (so to speak) so that is a plus.

Catch you on Week 2

What I learned about myself...sweets I really enjoy..don't buy..I will eat too much. Buy things I like that I can't eat a lot of..example chocolate cover pomegranate..they are good but I can't eat the 1/4 cup serving because I'm satisfied before they are done. When I'm feeling stress I need to get my body moving..cleaning house, dancing, walking...just move. Most important when watching tv..chew gum. Successful...week one...bring it on week two. emoticon

Ate some pieces of Mike and Ike. I don't know if these or the 100 calorie popcorn did it, but my before dinner reading and today before breakfast reading were elevated.Alot of carbs in popcorn, even the small microwavable bag.

Hello it's Day 6 and I am happy to say I made it without one slip. The first 4 days were rough ones but I made it through. I've worked out everyday Sunday to Friday, working for 35mins or more really helped curb the sweet and late night cravings I was too busy licking my war wounds to worrying about anything else LOL. Keep up the good work everyone Week 2 should be easier to get through I hope.

Be Blessed

Still here. Boredom, stress, available and being tired are the things that cause me to eat sweets. I sometimes don't even think and I've consumed it before you can blink your eyes. Then there are the times I say I'll eat just one and consume the whole thing. WOW...that's what I do. I know there are many of you just like me. I have to control my sweet intake and not let it control me. Off to a good start today...I pray I have the strength to be in control of it. emoticon

What brings you to this challenge? Lose weight, prevent diabetes, manage my blood sugar levels
How is your week going? Wishes I can stop eating added sugar, we have stuff to make cookies or brownies, it is hard not to crave sweets because we have the stuff to make sweets with.
What have you learned about your sugar cravings so far? That the main reason why I eat sweets is because I am bored and because the sweets is there
What do you hope to accomplish at the end of 4 weeks? Not to crave extra sugar and to loose weight.

Not big on the Chobani when I choose yogurt. We have Kroger stores where I live, and they have a Carb Smart, private label yogurt. Only 4 carbs versus up to 4X that with Dannon or Yoplait. Must be a product that can't be touched in the marketplace. Can't find anything comparable at Safeway. Since I have the Big D, King Soopers gets my yogurt business.

As I come to the end of week one in this challenge I am glad I signed up. I have found and researched some awesome alternatives that I find I really enjoy over having a surgery treat. Plus my largest accomplish was eating a buffet for lunch with a friend where I actually didn't leave feeling like I had eaten enough for me him and he man next to us....and on top of all that....I skipped dessert! Yes sir...I left the restaurant with out a second thought about a sweet treat...okay maybe a second thought but not a third.
I hope everyone else is finding success on their journey to "kick the habit" and I look forward to reading more about our accomplishments as we all go forward! emoticon

I am on day one. Sweets are a killer for me. Last week it just kept bugging me...I was minding my own business and saw a huge cupcake advertisment on a vehicle in front of mine. It said ..."something Cheescakes." I tried to fight myself. As I drove there was WWIII. Well I lost and the fat girl won...next thing you know ...I am at Publix buying a cherry covered cheesecake. It had to weight 5 pounds. I binged...I at 1/4 of it until I was totally discusted with myself. It was the pits. I got up and took it right over to my neighbor's house. I know that is not any better, but I couldn't bear wasting the $15. It was selfish but I got it out of my house.

But I just want to say that to say that it is not easy for me to fight sweets. I am taking it 24hours at a time at this point. That is all I can do. I am tired of lying to myself and making deals I can't keep. Everyday...I am just going to deal with making good choices for that 24 hour period...keeps the stress down...because the stress makes me want to eat. So here goes day one. I am eating fresh cut fruit, bananas, yogurt, applesauce, and low calorie popcycles, and nutrigrain bars instead.

Week one didn't go so well, I do pretty well most of the time, the key is limiting my exposure and finding health alternatives to sugary treats.
This week I figured out I like Heath Bars which I had never tried before. I shouldn't have tried them at all. Urgh.
My goal for this upcoming week is to stay out of the candy and continue to find alternative options for sweet treats.

What you do each day is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

You're so correct about processed cereal! My family rule when my sons were young was that we only purchased cereals containing under 5 grams sugar . Same rule now, and that is difficult. If you don't object to non-organic soy, Kashi Lean meets the criteria while adding 13 grams protein to a bowl. adding the fruit you want rather than buying it in the cereal gives MUCH better control as well. I have used pure stevia extract liquid or in inulin (Sweet Leaf makes one without an aftertaste) rather than artificial sweeteners for a couple of years. Yikes - I have missed my stevia on this challenge! Avoiding any sugar is the goal of the challenge, I think, so don't know what SparkPeople considers a "healthy" daily dose of sugar -- or if there is one :) -- Maryjean

QUEEN --
Oreos used to be my number one go-to sweet as well! Fortunately, on week one, the focus is on increased awareness, identifying all the sugars/ hidden sweeteners/ triggers and choosing what to do with them. So no one is judging us!
This week has been more difficult than I anticipated, since my chosen approach of Whole 30 does pretty much include a total abstinence from all things sweet -- including avoiding the dried fruit and limiting fresh fruits that still can trigger that sweet-tooth binge. Even though we eliminated ALL high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, chemical additives etc. two years ago... I am finding I WANT m y stevia in my tea and Greek yogurt. And I want "some" -- which too often turns into half the serving dish -- of the grains.
Still, managed to eschew all for this first week. So far. But let's not yet talk about how badly I've overdone my healthy sub (almond butter). Yikes!
We can do this! -- Maryjean

Starting day 4 and yesterday again was busy since I had a doctor's appt in the morning and my DD the II and I went to see Wicked at the NAC. Kept my choices healthy and got in all my water so I had no cravings to deal with. Having too much fun and too busy to think about it. I know that there are going to be harder days but two days of insight and less sugar I will take gratefully.

good evening fellow nite owls.
so this past week i have discovered that my strongest sweet cravings come when i am frustrated or aggrivated. usually when i am at home with my girls i tend to be more calm and at ease, however when i am at work i seem to be more easily aggitated and with that my escape is sweets, and unfortunately where i work i do not have easy access to healthy sweets because i woud happily substitute fresh fruit for the abundant amount of cookies, candy and junk food. lately i have been able to soothe my sweet tooth ache with trail mix but sometimes it just isn't enough. emoticon

Well I can't say that I have cut back on sugar this week but definately paying more attention to thoughts and feeling s when eating it. I have so much going on at work that I am stressed. When something else gets thrown at me I want chocolate..NOW!!! And they keep throwing things at me. A few times I was able to take some deep breaths and get my work done. I also need to start packing snacks and lunch for work so I don't go to the vending machines. Well I will keep working on it and checking in!!

Ok, so I had half a bagel this morning at work, then the hubby wanted to eat out. I was doing ok with a side salad but I was so hungry. I decided to have a southwestern eggroll. It was good! Now, I'm so nauseous!! Maybe I'll learn my lesson next time. Stick to simple foods... I'll do better, specially being on a "diet".

Day one, week one, take two. I had one piece of zucchini bread today, which I'm pretty sure had sugar in it. I also had one of the small gatorades when I came in from my 5 mile run. It was so humid and I had sweated so much that I felt water was not going to cut it! I only had the regular gatorade instead of the g2, so that had sugar as well. Trying to overcome a severe craving right now. Took my 2 year old nephew to get a milk shake at Sonic and it was all I could do to keep from finishing it off for him! Not only am I attempting to squelch my sugar habit, but also my Diet Dr. Pepper habit. I bought some Perrier Lime flavored sparkling water and it is really good! I cut up a small orange and throw in there and it is really refreshing! I wish you all the best of luck!
I do have a question: I have been buying the 6oz Chobani greek yogurt cups with the fruit on the bottom. It says it has like 18g of sugar, but it says "all natural" on the label, so could all of that sugar just be from the fruit itself and what naturally occurs in yogurt? I sure hope that is the case because I do NOT want to give that up!

I hear ya. I haven't even tried to cut back on sugars for week one, but boy, have I started to notice patterns and just how much sugar there is out there. Granola bar, healthy right? Not. I have also noticed how much pressure there is and how weak I am at pushing back when others want or offer sweet stuff. The computer and tv are like sugar triggers. I'm thinkin I should get some tasty seltzers and sip those during technology time. Next, I like the idea one of you had about getting out some projects to keep the hands busy. The "so delicious" are on my grocery list. Next week, no more unlimited pudding and pie.

Have watched what I have been eating real well. There was a meeting in a nearby office, and there was some food left over. A person came by my cube with apples, bananas, and donuts. Last time their were oranges and I made a wise choice. This time I chose an apple and a boston cream donut. I did my reading before I ate it. It was super. I haven't had a donut in quite a long time. Used to eat cherries because they are in season now, I have swore of them. I ate about 2 cups of them, and my blood sugars went over 600.

Well, this is day 6, lost 2.9 lbs this week, but kind of blew it today, had icecream, even tho it was a small cup I still feel bad. But right back on the band wagaon, having tuna salad and baby spinach salad for supper. I find the self talk really is important, things like "just say no, Donna" and I'm in control of what goes into my mouth" etc etc. really do work. 3 days of cardio this week and planning on 2 days of weights...keep your fingers crossed that I keep my big committment. Good luck for the rest of the day!!

Hey, you weigh exactly the same as me! Fun. Yeah, Splenda's ok. In moderation. Can cause some bloating/headaches in some people. But, low on cals.

this is week 1 for me and already ruined it by eating ice cream, but tomorrow is payday and i'm gonna buy a lot of fruit and veg. and eat them instead of ice cream. i love strawberries. and i hope i will lose some weight just by cutting down the sugar i eat. what about splenda i wonder if you can still have some of that on cereal and still lose weight?

I KNOW we're supposed to be sugar - free. That's the challenge. But I am such a severe sugar a holic that for me, just cutting waaaaay back is the key so I don't binge. Like, I used to bake something, eat half of it the first dang day. My family doesn't care about sweets so it's ALLLL me. Now, I have sugar free sweetener in my coffee every morning and if I have 10 m @ ms later in the day, I feel it's no big whoop because it takes the edge off and keeps me on track. I don't HAVE to eat a cake! Right or wrong, it's working.

Slow and steady wins the race!
