My challenge is to do a sugar detox, but oh my gosh I can't believe where I'm finding all those oses! I'm beginning to realize why I love sugar so much because it's everywhere!

I can't really pinpoint a certain time during the day when I crave sweets more than another, but I do definitely crave sweets far more before, and during my period than I normally would. I want to get this under control to help get a healthier lifestyle.

I've been given this one world, I won't worry it away.

The time leading up to my period is really the worst for me in eating sugar and over eating in general, anyone else have this problem?

I will not crack this time!!

I crave sugar at the mid-day point at work when I am on break, frazzled and sooo tired. I also crave it after dinner in the evenings, this is when I really tend to go overboard around 8-10pm because I am tired, and irritable and just want to eat something that will "comfort" me. Once I start I cant stop and usually binge on sugar and carbs for an extra 300-500 calories just in snack at night time. I really want this to stop, but don't know what to do, which is why I joined this challenge! I have phases of doing really great, and then things tend to get off track after a few days of "oh what the h*ll" with sweet treats after dinner...

I will not crack this time!!

I have a week off work. Time off causes me stress sometimes because I'm used to the rush-rush of work. I don't want to use sugar as a drug to avoid feeling.

Mongo2ten,
Don't be too hard on yourself. I often feel sick the next day after eating too much sugar. It's your body just trying to balance you out.
Today is a new day.....I feel you though.
I ate two oreos today....thank God they were at someone else's house otherwise I probably would've eaten them all!!! LOL.
You are doing awesome.
I'm hoping I have a much better week two :) emoticon

Week 1 went great until last night. Hubby wanted me to bake an angel food cake and it started a horrible sugar binge:( I'm sick today! Not sure if I have a stomach virus that's been going around our church or if the sugar binge did it!

Should have known better! emoticon

I'm so glad others have the same problem I do. I crave chocolate, and fruits terribly.
I've been satisfying my cravings by eating food ideas from the raw food diet. Sadly though,I still want chocolate. I've decided that instead of eating fruits, or "healthy" versions of junk food, I am going to try eating veggies, or grain based foods instead. I think it may take my mind off from sweets and have nutritional value.

I have never heard of Vitatops before, but I am going to check them out, thank you!!!

Being a college student and fighting sweet tooth is REALLY challenging especially during midterm weeks. Whenever I get stuck on my paper or need to think, I just mindlessly start snacking.

Grapes are my trigger fruit too! Especially because they are fruits and are technically "healthy", I think my mind is keep on tricking myself in to thinking that "it's okay" to eat them.

I think the Vitatops are worth it. My hubby doesn't like them as much, which is good - more for me! lol They are filling and have a lot of fiber, so you probably would eat only one.

I buy the dry mixes from the company and make my own. I freeze them and bring out one at a time.

Grapes are probably my worst trigger fruit. I could eat an entire pound in a sitting:)

You know, I never thought of fruit as being a trigger... but I think it is! I eat so much fruit in a day in an attempt to replace unhealthy sugar, but it usually gets me craving more! I think I will limit myself to 2 a day from now on.

Hi Nancy,
Would you say Vitatops are worth the price? I know I saw some in the store and my husband Greg was like"those are really expensive and you will probably eat them all in one sitting...."
but, if they are filling I won't. :) It's only OREO's that i can't eat just one...ok maybe a lot of cookies but you know.

Fruit does set it off for me sometimes....but last night I had strawberries and bananas and was too full for anything else :) lol Then of course I went on spark ppl and the rest is history!!

Going on day 4 here. I've had a Vitatop, but it's the only sweet I've had. It helps to keep those on hand for when I really feel I need something - I won't eat more than one because of the price and they are filling.

Fruit seems to trigger a sweet tooth in me, so trying to keep away from that right now too. I had some grapes last week and it triggered a bit of a cookie and candy binge. Anyone else notice that happens to them or is it just me.

Scales are moving in the right direction! And my energy is amazing.

Day 2.
oh my gosh....I went the whole day without eating candy...cookies. It was very empowering. Two months ago we prepaid for 5 boxes of girlscout cookies. We rec'd them tonight and I didn't eat one!!!! We went to a frozen yogurt place after cubscouts and I didn't eat any....I really didn't want it. I knew I would probably put oreos toppings on it and I knew I would feel like yuck. Yay. I can do this. :) emoticon

Hi all,
So I started this challenge today, officially. Last night I was trying not to eat sweet treats, but, I had made garbonzo bean chocolate chip cookies for my son, (he loves them) and the sugar content isn't bad. But still, it's like I HAD to have them.
Tonight will be better. I'm not going to beat myself up. I'm not going to binge!!!
You guys are awesome. I love the honesty here.
Thanks for listenening. emoticon

I just joined the challenge yesterday and am very motivated to remove sugar from my diet.
I found it interesting yesterday when a friend introduced me to Melaleuca and touted their fitness bars as being super healthy and the solution to a "nutritional detox program", yet when I did some in-depth research I found that they were full of sugars in all kinds of forms! I'm going to avoid those products!!! Once again, I'm realizing how important it is to read labels and be an informed consumer.

This week I am going to get all the chocolate chips, etc. that are in my freezer put into coffee creamers, label them and put them in the very back of the freezer. Having 10 grandchildren, I can't completely eliminate them, but I'm going to make them harder to access.

My problem is at night. I do great all day, then wake up at night and grab a "handful", which turns into another "handful".....anyone else have that?

My goal for the week is to not eat anything after bedtime!

Hello to all!
My name is Alicia and my goal is to limit my sweet intake to once a day. I would actually like to limit it to once or twice a week, It hard due to the fact that my grandchildren and hubby love brownies, all kind of stuff, It is all over the place. I just need to get some backbone as my
mom-in-law would say.

Tomorrow is going to be a difficult day for me. We are having my youngest sons birthday party tomorrow, and of course there is going to be cake and ice cream. We are getting sugar free ice cream, but unfortuntly the cake is not sugar free. Now to see if I can stick with this challenge, and not have any cake tomorrow.
Wish me luck I am going to need it.

I second that! PAL2010 is my hero of the day! :)

It's week 1, day 4 for me. So far, I've just been keeping track of my cravings, what I'm feeling when I crave, and what I put into my body. I've also been talking with my mom and grandma, as I don't live on my own at the moment and I'm not in charge of what kinds of food are stocked. Mom and Grandma both like to keep a few candy dishes around the house stocked regularly, but I hope after talking to them both, maybe there will be less candy, cookies, brownies, etc. brought into the house.

Grandma has diabetes, as does one of my aunts. It runs in my family, so it's a concern of mine. I also want to tame my sweet tooth to become kind of a role model in my family. It's not like we don't know how to eat healthy, we just don't. We can talk and joke about it, but all our knowledge of food doesn't mean anything unless we use it. So, I'm taking those steps to try to help my family.

Just want to say WAY TO GO, PAL2010! I know it must have been difficult to watch that frosting go down the drain but I also hope you found it super empowering when that bowl was clean and you hadn't licked it that way! ;-) GREAT job!!

Only into my second day but already this challenge and SP have gotten to me. I made a cake (for someone else, not me. Wow!) today. When I finished frosting it I started to do what I always do - eat the leftover frosting. However, as soon as the taste registered I instantly remembered this challenge and the SP site and washed the leftover frosting down the sink.

Thank you so much for inventing this challenge. It really does make me think twice about what goes into my body.

Week one sure has been a challenge for me, but I am doing it.
Went to the store and bought some sugar free hard candies.
Left all my change at home, so I can't get to the soda and candy machine.
Keeping sugar free gum and mints in my purse, so when a craving starts to happen, then I will have something to put into my mouth.
There is no more soda in my house.

Taking the quiz for Week 1 brought to my attention just how much I think about sweets - I do love chocolate but I very, very rarely say no to cookies or pastries or cakes. I do have enough willpower to not buy those things most of the time. But there are time when I go to Costco and bring home that mega-size bag of M&Ms or one of their bakery treats and will usually have the entire purchase consumed in two - three days (okay...maybe less).

The candy around the office is also a issue for me...it's like it's calling to me. Very crazy. So, today I am sitting here with an apple and an orange at my desk (having already eaten one apple with cinnamon and sugar) and they are not even whispering to me...yet! :-)

I've always known I inherited my dad's sweet tooth (which ironically he didn't have any teeth!). But when I started this journey to a healthy lifestyle, I did pretty good at doing sweets in moderation. But at some point along the way, I lost a little bit of my self control so I decided it was time to get it back. During my first week of this challenge, I noticed that my self control is lower when sweets are around & easily available. Basically, I don't crave them that much unless I see them. Knowing that is the first step in winning the battle!

Week 1 was good. I wrote down my food and how I felt and what I did. My goal is to learn to control my desires for sweets when the hormones or stress hits. I also want to say, "No", when offered sweets and mean it. Not long for them when I see others eat them. But, if I have room in my day and I want that sweet, I do not want to feel guilty for having the sweet.

My goal is to rid sweets of the control they often seem to have over me. I want to get in shape so that I can be an example to my younger siblings and feel better about myself in public. This last week was a struggle, but with the start of week two I am feeling motivated to push on and conquer my sweet tooth!

My goal is to be able to turn down sweets at work. I never keep them in the house, and I don't really have a problem with not eating sweets - as long as I don't see them or have them around me. So, I need to learn how to say no.

My goal is to try and kick the soda habit. On average, I consume anywhere from 20 - 40 fl oz of soda a day...my two biggest weaknesses are Barqs Rootbeer and Mountain Dew Code Red. I think kicking this habit this will have a significant impact on my weight loss. I feel guilty when I drink soda but so far, not enough to stop drinking it. Tired of feeling guilty about what I consume.

My sugar cravings are generally caused by stress and increase around my period, I've been trying to keep sugar out of the house, but with my husband it's really difficult because he's even worse of a sugar addict...though he doesn't gain the weight (jealous!). My problem is mostly portion control and carbs, I love carbs I wish I could eat them all day...But that's a change I'm slowly making.

The first week has been tough! I really do think I am addicted to sugar. Example: today. So, I cleared all the sugar out of my house--no temptations there. I rushed out my door too soon this morning to eat breakfast so I had cereal at work (not too sugary, but more than I needed) I also had left without a chance to pack a lunch, so I was stuck eating the same nasty crap they serve the kids--pizza.Again, not a good choice, but still it wasn't sugar. Then I finally get home. Right. I eat a sensible dinner. Then I head back to the office to do some printing and prep for tomorrow. And there was a box of donuts. I opened it and ate one. And another. And another. And I had 6 in the end. And I'm still craving more of them.

How will I be able to survive another 3 weeks? Better yet: how will I be able to survive long enough to break the addiction?

I have learned alot about my cravings this week. More than I wanted to know! I did not want to admit that my sweet tooth had more input into my habits than my good sense did. And yes, I learned that my biggest failure this week was girl scout cookies! I can't ignore those little things. They yell mean and horrible things at me! They keep saying eat me, eat me!
Until I scream "Alright already I'll eat you!" Next thing I know they are all gone! The whole box has dissappeared!

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3

After blogging about my cravings and sugar intake this week I have learnt I do have a higher sugar intake than I thought I would, that I drastically want to cut back my wine intake to 1 glass with my evening meal on week days and no more than 3 in the weekends (to start with). I want to see if I can substitute the sugar for something else although I will allow myself some chocolate (dark with mint preferably) as I do want to keep enjoying life!!!

I have grown up with a grandmother that had to have dessert after every meal including breakfast, and because of this i do not feel my meal is complete until i "finish it off" with something sweet...habits are hard to break!

I aim to just eat sweets on sundays. I managed to do that the first week of lent and i found that after a week of doing without I didn't really have cravings for it anymore. Then the second week hit me like a brick and i indulged quite a bit, I am ashamed to admit! :( I am ready to get serious about controling my sweet tooth! Luckily I see fruit as dessert so that makes things easier! :)
