SANDRA: My maiden name is LEET so I'm pretty sure you and I are related :-) We might be 8th cousins to the 10th power....but still related :-) Oh...wait...if you are married...it would be your husband I'm related to....ha! Fun.

ALL: About sugar vs. fruit/veggies. While carbs are not sugar to begin with, they quickly turn into sugar or "glucose" when we digest them. I think THIS challenge is about avoiding those things that have actual sugar to begin with, especially refined sugars or corn syrups or honey.

Depending on YOU, you might want to avoid sweeteners as well b/c they are so close to sugar your body will respond with insulin just as if you ate sugar. Yes, there are no calories, but if you are a type 2 diabetic or close to it (Metabolic Syndrome...which causes your body to turn carbs to fat eventually) it is almost as bad as eating sugar. I had to give up sweeteners altogether.

Fruit is good for you but too much, of course, is not. It needs to be in proportion, within the carb allowance compared to the amount of protein and fat in your entire diet. Start small with giving up all refined sugar....that is a HUGE step! Good luck! Jo

Just wanted to stop in and report as of yesterday I am now 55 days without sugar. I have had blueberries a few times, but not on consecutive days. I am back to working out at the gym, and the month of August I lost a total of 7 pounds. So being off sugar for 55 days, getting back to exercising, and losing weight, and sleeping better yep, that is something to celebrate. It can be done, its hard, but anything worth doing and doing right is hard.
