Tomorrow is my last weigh-in for my challenge. Even though I will miss my goal by a mile, I am happy that I tried. I am afraid that tomorrows weigh-in will be a disaster after a few days of battling with my girlfriends sister and hubby - boy can they eat!

So when I come back from the south of Sweden in a few weeks I will keep on my struggle to reach my final goal. Maybe I will start a new challenge - if you guys are up for it (I must say that you have shown some summer laziness here emoticon ).

My gf´s big sister and spouse are coming up her for a few days ...
Everything they do has to focus on food, coffee, cakes etc ...
Not looking too much forward to it, but they are soon family, so I'll just have to grin and bear it. Just glad they are a good 6 hour car-ride away and that my wife soon to be has not inherited the unhealthy life-style of her parents and sisters. Don´t think I would be able to live with her then.

Hi there, Muskrat!
Welcome to the challenge. Better late than even later - or worse - not at all!
Hope we can inspire and motivate each other to stick to the narrow road to that sweet, sweet success.
I started my road 5 weeks ago weighing 194 pounds. Now I've just managed to scare off a total of 0,9 pounds. Not to good in other words. These last pounds down to my final goal weight are really hard to get rid of.
So when this challenge is over for me and I'm back from my wedding in the middle of August, I will do a new effort to get down to my final goal weight. It's not that far away (my final goal is to weigh under 184,8 pounds).
Wishing us (and of course everybody else on Spark the best of luck)!

Finally I´m awake ... Managed quite well yesterday. Not to much apple cake 'n ice cream. Feels good that I held up so well. But the day really zonked me out in the evening - and this morning too.
Hope you guys are doing well too.

Going in to the city today to pick up an external hard drive that I ordered. And also to have lunch with my son. Real temptation coming up this afternoon - My girlfriends sisters daughter and her boyfriend are coming over for coffee this evening. I have been ordered to bake my famous apple cake. Tons of white flour, sugar and butter.

Hm ... where are you guys? Dropped out of the challenge you whoosies? - Giving me a free way to score into an open goal?
Well, anyways - I'm still at 191.4 lb this morning. Looks promising, even though I most likely won't reach my goal at end of this challenge. But I will reach that final goal - believe me (I'm stubborn as a mule)! I'll just keep on keep´n on until I´m there. But these last pounds seem to be xxx murder to get rid of.

This mornings weigh-in showed 191.4 lb - a loss of 1,5 lb. I was quite surprised - it felt like as if I had gained weight during the week.
I am beginning to realize that I wont reach my goal of loosing 9 lb in 6 weeks, but the main thing is that I slowly but surely get down to the final goal of weighing around 84 kilos. So far I have lost 2.4 lb during this challenge - and I have 2 more weeks to go.

Went to a spinning class this morning - totally zero energy. But I endured the pain and agony anyway. After that we went into town and got my girl-friend a new set of tires for her racing bike. Supposedly "almost" puncture free - I´m tired of fixing flat tires. She´s had quite a few the last months - specially on the rear wheel (of course - as it is harder to change)!
She just went out to try them out ... if she comes home with another flat tire I´ll ...

Was at the gym this morning and had a good work out. Almost alone there.
And then a nice one hour bike-ride.

I'm jealous. My day started well with a swim and then 9a..m.-12:15 on the bench, 30 minutes signing papers 30 minutes to get a diet soda in a machine and read the paper and then 1:15 -5:45 on the bench. Listened to too much. I had a short 30 minute walk in the heat and humidy at 8:15p.m. watched a show recorded fed the dogs and came upstairs to check email. Tomorrow is a ples day and we will be making up for last Friday being closed for the 4th. Saturday will be great

Well, competitive sports has a tendency of leaving you injured. The ligaments in my right foot got busted and stretched out too many times. Limits my exercise options by quite a bit. No running or jogging for me. Nothing that puts any strain or stretches my ankle. Spinning is about the most it can take.
Today has been a real "doabsolutelynothingday" for me. Lots of gray clouds and pouring rain. Been lazing round in the apartment watching old James Bond movies.

Another day ... another opportunity to stay focused on the straight and narrow way towards my goal!
Yes, I am close to my goal, but these last kilos are murder to get rid of. I seem to have hit some kind of plateau or something. My weight just stubbornly consistently stays around 86-87 kilos (189-191 lb), which actually ain't to bad for a guy of my height (191 cm, 6.3 feet). But I am stubborn as a mule to get it down to my ultimate goal of 84 kilos (185 lb). Too many years of hockey training as a youth has shown me that if you just keep plugging away, you will reach your goals - sooner or later.
So I'll just keep on keep'n on.

Well, here in Stockholm, Sweden we definitely have it cooler and less humid.
Today I'm hitting the gym again (as I plan to do every day this week - weekend included). The spinning class starts in 2.5 hours, so I have time for some serious R&R!

I live in east Arkansas on the Mississippi River and we have 90-100 degree summer temps and the humity will affect the heat index so that on occassions 95F is in the 100's heat index. Great for sweating out the water we drink.

A cool day, temperature wise? Well, anything between 60 and 68 is ideal (=nice and cool) for me.
This mornings weigh-in was not so fun. A real set back to be more precise. It got wrecked last afternoon when my daughter came over to have supper and spend the night over here. Good food, whine and a good dessert made sure that the scale was very unfriendly. It showed a weight of 87,7 kg (193 pounds) = a weight gain of 0,2 kilos (0.4 pounds).
Nothing to do about it, but to keep on trying even harder this week - I'm definitely not going to cave in and give up. Not me! My plan is to keep on at around 1300-1400 Kcal/day and increase my workouts with spinning classes tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday = weights. Saturday + Sunday = more spinning. I know that it seems an awful lot of spinning, but a hard cardio sweat seems to boost up my metabolism more than strength training. Now it´s crunch-time for me.

Have a nice 4th of July everyone emoticon !
A peek, unofficial weigh-in this morning showed a minus of about 0,5 kilos (1 pound) down. Hard to understand, but who am I to complain? I had actually not been surprised if it had shown a gain in weight. But I am holding my horses for the official weigh-in figure on Monday morning. But it sure does feel encouraging!

Going to hit the gym right as they open today at 8 O'clock - before the heat builds up and before the fumes from the Restaurant above the gym finds its way down the ventilation ducts.
After that I will hit the beach to watch the local ducks (or should I say duckesses) that tend to populate that area.
Then I just hope that the thunder that they have promised today will come and cool us of.

Coping with 90+ degree temps. The gym bothers me, too damn many people that mistake the cardio machines for a reading room or the circuit machines for a fashion runway. The personal trainer told me the folks that do the serious workouts show up around 5-6am to avoid the afternoon 'soap opera' crowd. Hmmmm!

Great Job boy!
I have ctrl-alt-deleted yesterday. Formated the hard disc drive too. The heat just got to me real bad. I had to go into the city (Stockholm) as well. Wasn't happy at all to mingle with all the tourists, trying to cope with their hazardous walking. Fast stops, quick changes of directions and not seeing were they walk. And when I get stressed out I get hungry. I must have downed several days of calories.
But its just to get up again, brush of the dust and keep on trucking.

Great job Patrick. This mornings weigh-in showed 0.8 pounds down for me. I measure and record my weight every Monday morning (have been doing it for the last years), so it will be interesting to see what that shows.
Yesterday was a "maybenotsogoodfoodday". We ate out at a small local restaurant across the street from where we live. They had a "Tapas" evening. Lots of small dishes of Spanish "fingerfoods". Really good, but high in calories (lots of olive oil and really good bread). And bread is a typical "verybadfood" for me. After that our neighbor invited us over for coffee and drinks (some really good whiskey - Lagavulin). So considering that I should actually be quite pleased with this mornings weigh-in. But just imagine if I hadn't pigged out emoticon !

I am using an outdoor pool. It is heated by God. It would be nice if they would drain half and refill to cool it off a bit. When I was a kid,50's, the ice company brought 300 lb blocks of ice that were put in the filtration system and it really helped.

Swimming was nice! Inside but they are not heating the pool presently, so temp is in the 70's I would guess.

But the best news; Down 1 pound!!

Plan to swim at lunch today. Haven't done laps in a few weeks. Backup plan is the weight room / cardio.

Yupp ... the spinning was just great. Thunderstruck ... Run For The Hills ... and as a bonus Tush with ZZ-top. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIwC1ei-6mE . Great stuff!
Yesterday was also a "goodfoodday". Munched down around 1500 kcal. And lots of water.
Today will be a hard day though. For lunch I had to grab something fast while shopping - settled for a handful of nuts. Niece with something salty in this heat. And I guess nut is better than candy or chips.
I will try and compensate for the fast lunch during the rest of the day!
Keep on going Guys!

OMG! That is some SERIOUS spinning!

My gym visit got replaced with finishing mowing the back yard, as my wife got ill (heat got to her!). After that, I "cooled" off with a brisk walk (it actually felt good!).

Yeah the challenge was a great idea! Complacency can get the best of me.

Likewise. Much better day on portions, etc., plus a good workout at the gym and mowing tonight. Just gotta stay honest on the portions and avoid chips! They are always my downfall!

1400 kcal today - including a box of fresh strawberries (yum). Now that I am back on track again, I can definitely notice that my portions had gotten larger. It will be interesting to see what the scale tells me in a few days.
I agree with you Patrick ... The calorie levels suggested by Spark (and other sites as well) do strange things with me. As long as I'm down at 13-1400 I am ok. But the minute I try to raise it to the suggested level for not loosing weight, I gain weight fast. I guess it is up to everyone to find the balance that works for you.
It feels great to be on track again. And even though I have a lot of stress around me I don't go on raids to the fridge or stores like I normally do when I'm stressed. I really feel motivated again - Hope that it works the way it should from now on!

I redid my nutrition info this morning. I was going to go with the SP levels for 9 lb loss in 6 weeks, but it still seems like too many calories (2500 - 2900). Always had an issue with this. So chopped everything by 30% to bring it to 1800-2000 calories per day (along with the fat, carbs, etc). The scale does not lie, so we will see if this makes the #'s go the "right" way!

OK. I'm doing ten-minutes a day of Tony Horton's One-on One or Tae-Bo and walking in the evening for 30 minutes. I usually walk the high school cross-country course for the hills.

Stilts Ha ha ... Reminds me of Garfield ... "I'm not overweight, I'm just undertall"!
Any more good ideas for fast tricks cheap fixes anyone? Swallowing Helium before weighing also might work.
Weight reports - well what about once a week? But reporting our efforts and how the day has gone on a daily basis? If there are any number freaks around (eh ... like me) we can also post our daily calorie intake if we feel like it. At least that works for me - it keeps my eyes on the ball.
According to Spark, my daily intake should be 1500 – 1850 kcal. Monday it was 1506 and yesterday I logged in 897, leaving me 600-900 for the evening out.
Today I plan to hit the gym and do some stretching and light weight-lifting. I’m definitely feeling the good ol training aches from my workout Monday + Tuesday. Will try an get there right when they open at 8 AM – before the heat hits in. And also before the restaurant on the floor above the gym starts frying the lunch menus - I just cant cope with the smell of fried fat when I’m working out.
Oooppsss!! … That gives me about 30 min – better rush of.

Monday morning I weighed 333. I am ordering a pair of stilts so I can be in the proper height/weight range. I plan to go beyond the 9 lbs. but losing weight isn't as easy as it use to be emoticon

So ... The gauntlet has been picked up! Great!
Ok ... my first day of the challenge has passed as planned. Even though I had dinner out with my mom, brother and gf, I think the food went ok (it is hard to estimate calories in "restaurant food").
I also found time to go to the gym today.
Midday weights are always a major bummer, but as you said - Patrick, maybe those figures you saw today will boost your motivation. Weighing yourself in the morning tomorrow will definitely fix the first weeks weight-loss :)

Well, I was not thrilled with my midday weigh in at the gym (269), but maybe that'll prod me to go get a battery for my scale at home! Anyway, my target is 260 for this 6 week challenge.

Here it is! The summer challenge that kickstarts my final effort to fit comfortably into my tux when I get married on Aug 8!
For me it means dropping from 88.1 kilos (194 pounds) down to my final weight-loss goal to be under 84 kilos (185 ponds), resulting in a BMI of 23.
Come on and join me in this challenge - I hereby throw down the glove and it is there to be picked up by anyone feeling up it!
