1. Barre Blend is still going well. In the middle of week 6. Two weeks to go after this week and then I need to decide if I want to repeat the program or do something different.

2. Water first, veggies most - still pretty good in this area.

3. Snacking - better, but still not great

4. Reading is going well.

5. Still working on the phone/computer time - I have days that are better than others. The sad thing is that the good days are the days that I'm super busy and the bad days are the days when I don't have a lot to do. The busier days are here though, so maybe that will help.

I have cut way back on the sugar-sure helps to have a tooth extracted, cuts down on the desire of eating.

I have 2 volunteer days scheduled this month.

I want to follow through on my exercising and eating more healthy. I start out with great intentions, then I let excuses take over. My goal is to either walk or ride my bike daily, in addition to other exercising. With eating, my goal is to make healthier choices with food selection, as well as having portion control. I know what my goal number is for weight loss, but I just want to be healthier overall.

My goals for 2020 will be to start small. I always make all these big plans and am never able to carry them out. I work a lot of hours and when I get a day off I get called to come in and cover for someone. So with that being said my goals will be small for now. They may not seem like much for most of the members here, however, I need to start somewhere.

1. Give up soda and drink more water.

2. Eat healthier. I work overnights and sleep in the afternoon and my eating habits are lacking.

3. Get at least 8 hours of sleep every day.

My challenges for 2020

1. Limit sugar intake- I feel so much better when I donít eat the sugar filled foods.

2. Volunteer opportunities-I want to get back to volunteering locally.

3. Continue the walking, and add more strength exercises. Use the weights and bands instead
of watching them gather dust.

Only going to plan for one thing at this point : walk three days out of four. With my bad knee I need a regular break from walking as our walks are miles long on some days.

My word for 2020 is "intentional".

My goals are:

1) Be intentional in all aspects of my life
This includes work, home, money, faith, my words, my time, health and relationships.

2) Be more involved at church.
I currently am on the hospitality team and co-manage the coffee bar but want to do more. I will start working with the middle school, high school, and young adult youth starting in February. I also want to attend more women's group events this year (I went to one last year).

3) Plan an "actual game night" or afternoon.
Some friends and I get together every year around Christmas for an ornament exchange party. We usually end up playing a game, and the last 2 years we talked about having "an actual game night" but we never get around to it.

4) Let go of the past.

5) Do a random act of kindness monthly.
I will definitely do more than one a month, but I want to pick a specific person each month to do something extra special for.

My 2020 Challenge

1. I will start Barre Blend on January 6th and will finish it (it's 8 weeks, then I will figure out what comes next)
2. I will focus on "water first, veggies most" at all of my meals.
3. I will cut back on processed foods - aka snack foods
4. I will read something every day, whether it be something for fun (a magazine) or something more serious (my Bible)
5. I will cut back on phone/computer time. I need to decide on a limit.

1. Exercise 15 mins a day, adding 5 minutes more each month.
2. Eat 5 salads a week, more when able to.
3. Cook one fresh meal a day, 2 servings, one for dinner, and leftover for lunch next day.
4. Spark for new information and focus daily, 15-30 mins.
5. Walk 10 mins daily, and add a minute weekly for the goals, (I can walk more)
6. Get up from my work desk every hour to get in a small walk to stretch.
7. Drink tea daily, less diet pop and coffee. Get in 3 glasses of water.
8. Declutter a room and reorganize once a week.
9. Spend one hour finding bargains on food and planning meals weekly.
10. For every week that I finish my goals, pay myself 25 dollars for a vacation fund.

I have the right to revise and edit my goals to fit my needs throughout the year.
I will work on reporting to this thread each week. Good or bad, I am going to focus on my health more.

2020 Iowa Challenge

This thread is were you can safely add your 2020 Health goals. These goals can be for nutrition, fitness, new daily habits, all things you want to focus on in the new year. Try not to focus onÖ. I want to lose 5 pounds a month or be in a size 10 by June. It is great when it happens, but you donít always have the control to do it, if there are issues with your body, a thyroid issue, diabetes, or heart condition, it will take more time than you may have allowed. It is always best to have goals you can control, like wake up early and put it a video exercise or go out and walk the neighborhood 5 out of 7 days a week. I also try to have wiggle room for my goals. 5 out of 7 days a week leaves you some forgiveness room. You can achieve the 7 in 7 days and feel good, but what if a family member or your job is demanding for a day and you canít find the time to do a goal, you may get down on yourself and we do not need that. Life is hard and a struggle somedays, other days are like a walk in the park. Make room for you to live life, try the 80/20 rule or the 5 days out of the week rule to meet your goals. Chart them, visualize them on a calendar, a list, make up a beaded row counter, you can make one yourself, google it, where you push a bead over to the other side of a wire when you hit a goal, (like how they keep score in billiards or darts ) whatever it takes to get involved in your own wellbeing.

Examples:

1. Eat 5 salads each week (or 1 daily)

2. Eat fruit daily (5/25 servings a week, gives you more flexibility, so you do not feel you messed up on one day)

3. Eat veggies daily (5/25 servings a week, gives you more flexibility, so you do not feel you messed up on one day)

4. Walk 3 miles a day (or 1 mile-5 miles-10 mins or 60 mins) or (add an additional 1 mile/10 mins. per monthÖ)

5. Watch only 1 or 3 hours of T.V. daily or weekly. Or (Be on the internet only 1 to 3 hours a day.)

6. Do Eight sit-ups or pullups, or squats on day one, then add one more rep on a time frame you feel you can do. (1 more a week. By the end of the year you can be doing around 60 a day.) The exercise can be of your choosing, were you need strength, pick one that you need the most in any of the desired exercises.) Spark has many tools to work with, look at the top menu of the web page to find the learn tab and explore your options for fitness.

7. Watch a new video daily on spark, or read a new article, keep your focus on health, 15 mins a day to learn something new about how to help your body and mind to motivate towards health.

8. Check out a new team once a month, you do not have to join, only view that bigger picture of health, maybe you didnít know there was a group that is focused on what you want, and they have their ups and downs right there for you to see, and it could save you from making mistakes on nutrition or fitness, without the hardship. Find your support system, there are many out there.

9. Take 5 minutes in the morning before getting out of bed to breath, long deep breaths.

10. Stretching, biking, yoga, tai chi, swim, any activity you love, do weekly, daily, or two times a week, or maybe you want to do one new activity weekly, once a month maybe, and list them.

11. Start a journal, or use the one on Spark, track meals to see the nutrition you are getting or the fitness you are achieving.

12. Find ways to add health into your workspace/daily home life, before work, after work, with friends and family, or by yourself. You do not have to join a gym, or maybe your ready to try.

Remember to just do what feels right, in small steps of gaining back control over daily habits in a healthy well-balanced way; without pushing to injury, that is not the goal. The goal is to heal the damage that has been done by not focusing on the things we are going to start doing more of today. If you are already at your best, keep up the great work! Best wishes into the new year, the journey of life is a long one if we are lucky, pace yourself accordingly.
