I am not a picky eater , I love food too much and I am trying to limit my selections to cut down on the amount of shopping I do. I eat oatmeal a variety of ways since I like variety . I eat oatmeal every other day. I also prefer oatmeal bread.

In my food journal I discovered rice pudding raises my sugar too high and so does nestles stirred in my milk. I should of made the rice pudding myself so I could reduce the amount of sugar or try it without the sugar.

Very interesting Ready. I also have a problem with green peppers.

I was never someone who would snack in between meals. Therefore I am not in the habit of planning for a snack. My food journal and her book has help me to see I should plan snacks . After I went on insulin back sometime ago , I started needing a snack about once a day. Her book suggest 2 snacks a day , but at this point I don't feel a need for two snacks . I am more incline to get hungry after supper and before bed. Maybe because I went to smaller evening meals.

I don't like stuff like raw vegetables. I like my veges cooked. Any suggestions on good snacks ?

I think it is helpful for now anyway. I get heartburn every time I drink a packaged protein shake. I love the taste and flavor , but if it keeps giving me acid re flux I will discontinue drinking them. emoticon

I have not started the food journal yet , but I did get out and buy a notebook for that purpose.

"Buy Yourself a Journal and Carry It with You Always ~ For many of us, this task is an exercise in boosting our self-worth. We are willing to journal, but we go about it in a ragtag fashion, writing on whatever scraps of paper we have at hand. The idea of having a dedicated journal strikes us as spendthrift, too big - and too costly - a commitment. It is not too big a commitment. It is far less costly than the extra pounds you are carrying. Ask yourself, what kind of journal would I like and would I use it? Some favor spiral-bound journals that remind them of their schooldays. Others like hardcover journals small enough to fit into their purse. Pick a journal that pleases you and do not be stingy with yourself about the price. Weight loss is worth the cash outlay - and the self-awareness you will gain is beyond price.

Carry your journal with you everywhere. Use it whenever you eat - and whenever you want to eat." ~ Page 23

So what will you write? It is up to you but here are some suggestions for food journaling which might fit what you think you want to journal:
-Record everything you eat and drink immediately.
-Note what you're doing while you're eating―driving, watching TV, etc.
-Describe how you felt while you ate: angry, sad, happy, nervous, starving, bored?
-Be honest. It's a journal, not a newsletter, and no one has to see it but you.
At the end of each day, examine how your emotions affected your eating.
Every day, try to see if you're getting at least:
(you fill in this part but for me it was....)
-3 servings of vegetables (or more and cheer about it)
-30 g fiber (I'm diabetic so fiber is my friend)
-protein with every meal

The journal will be part of future Tools so while I thought I could just use my food tracker on spark people it did not let me put in emotions or comment on situations. I used my spark blog for that. And... once I had decided on a food plan (clean eating) I did not feel I had to write down anything I ate that was part of my food plan. I only had to write down when I did not eat what I meant to so skipped things... and when I wanted to eat off plan.

Maybe you want your journal to be a place where you have to be accountable... but for me the journal was a reality check and a place to see holes and patterns and solutions.

This is also an opportunity if you can't define a food plan to look at the foods you eat and how they make you feel. Shame... ill... radiant... tired.... etc. It's like a big experiment. Remember this is a TOOL and is meant to help you. Ask yourself (in your morning pages perhaps) what you think a food journal should be for you. You might be surprised at the answer!
