I chose number 4 but need to add number 5 to the list to pray in moments of doubts.

Reviewing the Five Ways to Trust God with Your Burden

1. Ask
Asking Him to be your partner in your personal restoration and to forgive you for all the years you have ignored Him and tried to do thigs without His help, so He can fill that “God-space” in your soul.

2. Attend Church
So that weekly boost of prayer, education, community, and sacred space we can get at church can give us a far stronger bond.

3. Attend a Support Group
We got that! Right here!

4. Begin each day with an affirmation
Before the day gets crazy, take a moment to renew ourselves to God and refresh our spirit with His strength.

5. Pray in moments of doubt
When our determination weakens and we’re tempted to blow off doing what’s best for our lifetime health, we should step back, take a moment, and call on God to carry us through, with new passion, trust and confidence.

Did you select one of these suggestions for incorporating that change in your life?

You make a valid point.

Awareness is only the First Step, but an essential one.

I used to agree but not sure it is the whole answer now. Knowing the cause of our problems is not necessarily important - knowing what to do about them is important, and doing it.

This paragraph really challenged me and spoke to my heart.

Genuine and permanent change concerning the truth about why we are no takin care of ourselves may require some deep soul-searching and not everyone is willing to do that. Only the truth can sets us free but the truth is not always easy to face. In fact, facing the truth about ourselves is one of bravest things we can ever do.

How many prisons of our own do we mistake for shelters?

If you turn things over to God, you will finally find the power you need to break free.

I started reading the book in December. For key one I went through a bit of a process, but it has now settled down to asking daily to be filled with the Holy Spirit (I have put a reminder to do this in my bullet journal).

I am now doing a twelve week SP challenge (BLC39). I did it three times last year and the results were 9.5 pounds on over the course of the year. This current challenge started last Wednesday. I have lost 2.5 pounds so far. I have started weighing my food and putting it in the SP nutrition tracker (had to pay for Premium membership because it is so slow it is unusable otherwise). Just having the patience and self control to do that is a miracle. It helped me see I was having far too much fat in my diet so I adjusted my menu accordingly. I have been walking every day (one of my 101 Things To Do In 1001 Days List things is to walk outside for at least 10 minutes every day for a year). I often used excuses before to not go out (too busy usually). It really does me good to go out. Refreshes me. And - I have started strength training (bought an exercise mat so I could exercise on my concrete floor - and new leggings - 2 for £14.50 in an outlet store) and I have done over half hour three times since Wednesday. Fourth session today. I plan on doing this routine until I get the hang of it. I'm slowly getting it! Anyhow - all this is to say - I think that praying to be filled with the Holy Spirit has helped me to have the self control and patience to do these things that I could never get myself to do before. Which reminds me - I must change my ticker.

Oh and I have also been meditating on a Bible verse for 5 minutes each day. Another thing I remind myself to do in my bullet journal. I am going to pick a different verse each week.

And I have been having 15 minutes each day to just sit and think (usually results in me praying). That helped avert a binge one day - can't remember what happened - but I just needed to take a deep breath and think it through I guess. Anyhow - that is another bullet journal thing. I have 23 little daily reminders listed in it.

Breaking your bonds

God has an awesome plan for you, but it requires you to learn about, and begin exercising, the power you have as His child. You CAN break out of old patterns.

Many of us labor for years under the burden of our bondage of familiarity, believing that it is helping us and wondering why we don’t quite manage to succeed and move on. We may experience some success using our old methods, but it's usually temporary; the diet helps us lose 20 pounds, but then we slip back and have to start over.

It is much better to be free from overeating than to live a lifetime of going on and off a diet, repeating the same cycle. Temporary relief is not freedom.

If you turn things over to God, the Source of Divine Strength, you will finally find the power you need to break free. Draw on the limitless power of the Holy Spirit, rather than your own very limited power.

By monitoring people's physiological responses, scientists have learned that meditation and prayer lowers heart rate & blood pressure, and improves the function of the immune system.

I am going to read the affirmation that Joyce had in the book.

God I am free but the power of Your Word, I believe You have given me the strength to break free from the bonds that have been holding me back from all the beautiful things You have planned for me. I thank You that I am free by the blood of Jesus and the sacrifice that He made on the cross of Calvary. Thank You for making me free through the truth of Your Word and for empowering me with Your power, strength, and wisdom. Help me to be all You want me to be in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

We criticize ourselves for our lack of willpower, but what if we don't fully understand the willpower principle?

Willpower is your best friend in the beginning when things are going well but often quits when the going gets tough, because it is closely aligned with Reason.

Reason is always open to being "reasoned" with [aka "rationalization"] and talked out of things, especially when Emotion joins in. Willpower alone won't be enough.
